Mike Barnes Drums Amazon Shop
I now have an Amazon store featuring all the gear, books etc you see here in these videos, and that I use myself on gigs/in the studio and recommend. It doesn’t cost any more to buy from this store than it does from regular Amazon, but you’d be supporting this channel by doing so, which would be very much appreciated!:

Mike :)
One of the most under-rated drumming channels. Thanks a ton for these videos, Mike. Nice to see that the subscriber count is increasing consistently
Cheers!
Thanks for breaking it down to a super-simple level, and putting the sheet music at the bottom helps alot also.
I look forward to the day when someone might confuse me for a real drummer.
Thanks, very useful, and easy to follows. Appreciate it
Cheers Patricio! 👊🏻
Like the funk
It’s great fun and good for a funk groove or some rock depends
The key is to do this really slow at the start and treat the coordinations as small counting chains involving the hat, snare and kick. I’ll be discussing my progress with you Mike very soon. Nick.
It is! Cheers Nick.
always wondered how to play this kind of beat. excellent video as always Mike, really appreciate how you broke it down into a simple and easy to understand way
Cool, thanks for watching and glad if helpful! :)
Another great vid man
Great vlog Mike
Thank you

Sheet music for these grooves is on the members' page: www.buymeacoffee.com/mikebarnesdrums/sheet-music-for-off-beat-hi-hat-grooves-pt-1-video
Lovely groove feel to develop for disco/funk/rock and loads more, and a brilliant coordination/independence workout.
If you find the coordination on any of these challenging, slow down! - show your hands/feet/brain the movements involved, talk yourself through it if needs be and set the precident in your nervous system before trying to play fast.

Interesting, what you say about adults being the worst offenders of 'can't do', Mike.
I guess they've more to lose by looking a klutz, while shouldering previous experiences of can't do.
You're right about just doing it, to borrow from Nike, Mike, but have often wondered like chicken and egg, what comes first? Confidence or application?
If you apply yourself you must have a certain confidence from the get-go, or not.
"Nurse, the screens! Mr Warburton's been at the philosophy books again, rather than his Trinity Grade books".
Yeah, I guess as we get older it gets a little harder emotionally for us all to be in a position of not being the one in the know. The most successful perspective I've seen learners take on this is simply acknowledging that they're "at the beginning" with something, rather than jumping to label it as "struggling with", "finding it hard" or worse still "I'm bad at this". In my experience working with lots and lots of learners, perspective and attitude (not ability) is EVERYTHING in terms of their prospects to progress. A willingness to try is the no 1 skill. Application comes first I think, confidence grows with competence. "Just get on with it", couldn't be more right IMO. I think something that a lot of people don't appreciate is that not being very good at it at first is an ESSENTIAL step in the process of learning it.
Could you do a pt 2 with 16th notes on the bass drum
Coming up! 👊🏻
