Mike Barnes Drums Amazon Shop
I now have an Amazon store featuring all the gear, books etc you see here in these videos, and that I use myself on gigs/in the studio and recommend. It doesn’t cost any more to buy from this store than it does from regular Amazon, but you’d be supporting this channel by doing so, which would be very much appreciated!:

This is the best tutorial on the Purdy Shuffle I have seen yet.
Cheers!
This is best tutorial I’ve found for the Purdie shuffle . Thanks Mike 👍
Cheers!
I have to say that a week ago I did not even understand what was going on. I stopped over to my best friends house and we were talking about drums. We were sharing vids of cool drummers and I asked if he wa familiar with the Purdie shuffle. We watched some tutorials on it and I started to get it. I am not laying down a strong beat, but I understand more than I did a week ago! I will have this soon! And it will be another thing that I never thought I would ever be able to do! Such a great feeling to be making headway in accomplishing something that has always been impressive to me!
Awesome, hope it's going well!! :)
Superb lesson" "As always, Sunny sat morning, will take kit into garden😎" annoy nextdoor"
Let’s go even more in depth love it!
„Don’t worry ˋbout those ghost notes, they ainˋt nothing but rebound!“ - Bernard Purdie

Best break down if this shuffle I heard! I think I can do this now. BTW the Valerie lesson is great as well. Keep em coming

Cheers Tom - It's all about building it up in these stages for me man, find the stage that isn't there yet and you've got it cornered IMO! 👊🏻
this is just what I was looking for. Thanks!
I’ve watched a lot of videos on this trying to figure it out. I got it now thanks to this video.
Mike has a way of explaining complex ideas and breaking through to non music school people like me. He hooked me up!

Thanks 😊 Helps a lot man 👍
Ive been playing this when I freestyle and just learning it's an actual thing
This is the most effective lesson I have seen for the Purdie Shuffle. The taking it apart and learning it in stages is great. The drums sound great as well! The cymbals are exceptional.. what brand and model?
Thanks John! Glad you dig. Kit details here...

Perfect:)
For some reason I really struggle to do the two high hats after the ‘loud’ snare. It’s like I just can’t get those 2 high hats to groove
This is a tricky one man, take your time and keep working! Thanks for watching :)

Could you maybe suggest some typical hihat openings please?
On this feel? Maybe...
"+" of beat 1 (like Fool In The Rain)
"4"
"+" of beat 4
⚡️
oh no i've gone cross-eyed
What’s confusing is you seem to be saying the ghost not is between the high hat notes though it seems like you are playing two consecutive high hat notes followed by a ghost note. Not putting the ghost note between.
Count is "One-trip-let, two-trip-let, three-trip-let, four-trip-let"
Order of notes is hi-hat, ghosted snare, hi-hat -repeating. So the ghosted snare is between the hi-hats. As you flow from one beat into the next, there will indeed be two hi-hats in a row because the hi-hat is on the third note of the triplet, then again on the first note of the next triplet. That's what a shuffle is! Thanks for watching.
The key is the backbeat right and left on the 3!
Ghost note trip immediately follows. Then back into the pattern
Practice that and you got it
