All art is made by Erin and myself.
I think the best part about your rating system is that it gives people more incentive to actually listen to your reviews and not take the rating at face value.
The name of my new western parody "The Goodness, The Badness, and the Mehness".
Scumbobness would be funnier but
There are 2 bad and 3 meh episodes
I really like your rating system. It takes something as abstract and subjective as an opinion on a cartoon and keeps it abstract and subjective, albeit simpler.
Never got why people were so bent on trying to force their opinions into numbers.
Here is my rating system.
"Spongy Episode": For downright Amazing episodes only.
"Good Episode": It's good but isn't amazing but still good, even great episodes go here.
"Okay Episode": It's not good nor bad just middle.
"Bad Episodes": This is for bad episodes, but not terrible, even awful episodes go here.
"Abomination": This is for downright terrible episodes only.
That’s a great system
What are the spongy episodes
@@locomotivetrainstation6053 Even though I don't want to review anymore but examples I would've stated would be Band Geeks, Chocolate with Nuts, Dunces and Dragons, Pizza Delivery, Krabs a la Mode, Idiot Box. What I see to be episodes that deserve a 10/10 in my opinion that is.
2:09 I think you should have picked "Chips Ahoy" for Good or Meh, and "Gullible pants" for Meh or Scumbob.
In my opinion chimps ahoy is good and not close to meh
I would love to see a square theory on why the first three seasons are so much more quotable, with much more memorable gifs. my theory is partly that later seasons just ran out of ideas ad tried to rehash, but maybe there's more to it than that
0_o You shaved. The first thing I noticed when I clicked on the video :p
+Avis Reviews Lol, that's my reaction also.

When I give my opinions on episodes, I split them into more than three categories to help express how good or how bad it is. From bad to good my rankings are: Abomination, Very Bad, Bad, Mediocre, Average, Decent, Good, Great, Masterpeice. Of course I rarely use Masterpeice or Abomination. However I respect your rating systems and understand all your opinions
Wow, last time I was this early, theater mode actually made the video bigger :0
What's the point of theatre mode anyway when you can have full screen? I never use it.
pie mam delted my comment
woah you're here
_Oh hi, person from the OSC._
Also, about the ratings, I usually go with my gut feeling (whenever I use them). Then I elaborate on my feelings.
Really like your Square Theory videos! Good to know how you rate them :P Also, I agree the review is more important than the rating!

You get the point, and he probably did too.
Is this the way you've been doing it since Season 1, or has it gotten more scientific over time?
he did provide a little explanation in seasons 1-3, but never went into that much details
Better over time. Every year I get a little more experienced I think.
Hey PIEGUYRULZ. If you mind I could tell you how I rate my episodes of SpongeBob
I rate them by humor (how good episode is written)
I rate them by plot (Is the plot creative or uncreative)
And Finally I rate them by Bad, Meh, Good, Or Amazing.
Bad: Means I hated the episode from point A to point B.
Meh: Means there were good parts and some bad parts.
Good: Means the episode Had a good story but could've been better
Amazing: OH YEAH! THIS EPISODE HAD A REALLY GOOD STORY!!! :D
Hey PieGuy, here's an idea for a Square Theory, "Is Paul Tibbet to Blame?"
I wonder what PGR's perspective on the undeserved flack Paul gets is. That would be interesting.
Undeserved flack? How?
Skeeter Mania
Because he was the showrunner after Steven Hillenburg left and after Hillenburg left, the show went downhill. So, it would make sense for people to blame Paul Tibbet. It's kinda like when Batman and Robin was panned in 1997, people blamed Joal Shumaker for not making a horrible movie but for destroying Batman.
Jonny Boy PieGuy said a few times that he believes Nick is more to blame than the show's crew, and l believe that too.
My system is
Good
Decent
Meh
Trashbob
Edit: I’m not trying to copy pieguy, I just wanna keep mine simple
I agree with you on not liking rating scores, which is why I don't incorporate them into my main videos, but I do think they're pretty useful when making a quick look video. Since those videos are so short I can't elaborate on the points I'm making as much, so putting the score at the end helps summarize my thoughts and show how much I would recommend the thing, as well as being a good way to organize my thoughts on things. with that being said, though, I don't think I'll ever put scores in my regular videos, since that's all people would focus on as opposed to the points I'm trying to make, especially since people get really salty about anything good getting rated below an eight (even though I rate everything worth checking out above a five).
"...especially since people get really salty about anything good getting rated below an eight"
You can blame that on IGN popularizing the "7 = Average" mentality.
Like Pokemon ORAS got a Average 7.8/10 for having Too Much Water XD.
You've been making a lot of videos. thank you.
Sometimes if an episode is between meh and good for me I think "If I could never watch it again, would I be that upset?" That doesn't always decide it, but it helps.
I have 2 rating systems!
A 0-10 system...
0-Worthless
1-Atrocious
2-Terrible
3-Bad
4-Disappointing
5-Mediocre
6-OK
7-Good
8-Great
9-Amazing
10-Masterpiece
...and simplified rating system.
-MASTERPIECE (10)
-AMAZING (9)
-GOOD (7-8)
-AVERAGE (5-6)
-BAD (3-4)
-TERRIBLE (1-2)
-WORTHLESS (0)
Really good video. And yes, I agree with you about the ratings in general - the review is much more important.
he is so cuuuuttteee 😭😭😭💓
he has a girlfriend
And I doubt he's the disloyal type.
I think, you're the only person I've seen, that somehow looks older, when shaven.
I miss the goatee ):
Cyrillus Crower
He's hot
2:10 Was that placeholder example supposed to be in the final video?
Yes. I did not want to use a specific episode, because I didn't want people thinking that I was considering all 3 ratings for that episode.
PIEGUYRULZ Your the best. I'm gonna subscribe. Do season 9 soon!
Wait till December... ;)
MorbyGanaWho :(
comon thats not that long a wait (coming from someone who waited almost a year for season 7.
3 ratings are good enough! I like it!
Suggestion: show us how you analyze these episodes in a livestream or something liek that as a special?
I use 4, I have the three you do, (Change the names a bit) and a fourth one for the absolute cream of the crop, the pristine episodes which calling "good" would be a disrespect.
LONG POST AHEAD.
I scorecard episodes of some shows, and I use 11 ratings. Yeah, 11. And I absolutely love it. I don't think any number of ratings is better. I've scorecarded multiple shows. SpongeBob has made full use of the rating system, whereas other shows like Adventure Time, Steven Universe and Gravity Falls only make use of the top half, very rarely reaching into the bottom half.
My middle rating is "Meh", and this is where the episode's good and bad cancel out. If there is slightly more good than bad it goes up to my next rating, "Okay". There are five ratings on either side of "Meh". The two extreme ratings are used very sparingly. The lowest rating has only been used twice (in SpongeBob), and Steven Universe and Gravity Falls are able to somewhat frequently bring out the highest rating. I also work by intensities of the good and bad. Take a controversial opinion of mine, Know Your Fusion from Steven Universe. I gave it a "Meh". The first two minutes of that episode are absolutely AMAZING. I consider the first part of that episode to be mind-blowingly good until the part Sardonyx forms. The episode just descends into mediocrity after that and stays there for the remaining 9 minutes, but it's not terrible. 9 minutes of mediocrity and 2 minutes of mind-blowingly amazing cancel out to "Meh".
11 ratings isn't that hard for me to manage, and yes, I do change them every now and again, but I usually know right where the episode sits, and changes aren't that frequent. To me, 11 is the perfect number. But then again this may be because a scorecard doesn't have a review attached. I literally have to sum up the episode in one word.
I've seen other scorecarders go WAY WAY overboard with the ratings. I think the most I ever saw was a system that used 28 ratings. Many of their ratings were just synonyms. I could never work with that many. I don't think working with that many is practical at all. I think maybe he was just trying to be that kid with the biggest rating system on the internet.
***** I don't remember their username. But when the ratings outnumber the episodes in the season, it's just ridiculous to use a system like that.
Steven Power I loved the first few minutes of KYF myself, but I felt like the part with the challenges was missing something. For me, it wasn't Sardonyx that made the episode meh, it was the overall lack of dynamics in the latter part of the episode.
***** I did try to add 2 more ratings at one point, but I realised that they just weren't needed and that 11 was enough for me.
I like the idea of three rating system: Good, Meh, (or just okay if you don't want to do meh), and bad. It's simple and easy to do. XD. Having more then let's say 4 or 5 for a rating system just seems to be way too much to me.
My thoughts on each season so far
Season 1 = Good
Season 2 = Good
Season 3 = Good
Season 4 = Good/Meh
Season 5 = Good/Meh
Season 6 = ScumBob
Season 7 = ScumBob
Season 8 = Meh
Season 9 = Meh/Good
Season 10 = Good
***** Well the second one premieres this Saturday, so there's that.
***** So can I!
Season 10 and onwards isnt nearly as good as seasons 1-5.
Love your shirt :0
Oh hey! There is only one more episode that is not Finished in Season 9.
I use 5 rating system : Disaster, Weak, Meh, Good, and Super.
3 Rating system is good too, it's simple and easy to do. Having more than 5 would be redundant and too synonymous to each other.
I also have sub-rating "Debatable" for episode that has both strong good and bad aspects in that episode (example : I'm with Stupid). this rating does not count in my chart whatsoever.
A.J. looks nice without facial hair. Btw, Pieguy's real name is A.J. Look it up on FamousBirthdays.com it's in the trivia section.
Thanks for clearing that up.
PieGuy, I have 4 ratings for Simpsons episodes.
*Forbidden Episode*
It's an awesome episode that I totally recommend.
*One Thumb Up* "
An episode that is good, but not enough to get the Forbidden rating.
*Two Middle Fingers*
(inspired by Blaze the Movie Fan)
An episode I don't like or care to watch.
*ScumRob Episode*
An episode I hate with a passion. (By the way, your ScumBob rating inspired me to make up this rating.)
For me personally I would go for a 5 star rating.
1-Nope. Can’t even sit through this one.
2-I can sit through this but I don’t want to.
3-I can sit through it if offered but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.
4-I would actively go out of my way to watch it.
5-I would always want to go through with it multiple times barring extreme circumstances of course.
This is the scale I use
Garbage - BURN IT!!!
Terrible - very bad, can't sit through it
Bad - I can sit through but I'd rather not
Meh - just meh, nothing too good or too bad
Good - good, I would like to watch
Great - I would go out of my way to watch it
Amazing - definitely would watch
Perfect - not a single flaw, perfection from second 1 to the end of the episode
Interesting video.
I would like to you see you make a top 10 or what-have-you of your favorite and most favorite SpongeBob episodes.
When I think of how much I like an episode I usually get more specific. I have ratings that go from the highest being amazing to the lowest being terrible with 8 other different ratings between them. That might be too complex for some people, but that it what I do.
I use 11 ratings in my scorecards, and for me it's the perfect number. I've seen some with as many as 28 ratings, which I think is just impractical. I think whoever did that might just be trying to show off.
Yeah. I think about 10 or 11 is the perfect number.
Jeffrey Hickey l use 5 but I think 8 might be the next best thing, it's a number l did consider
Cool.
Roei Potash AKA Poihpio I think odd numbers are better also. With an odd number, you get a rating that's bang in the middle. With 11 ratings, the 6th one up is exactly in the middle, with 5 above and 5 below. With an even number, you don't get that exact middle rating.
I am scared of season 9 I haven't seen most of the episodes
Mikimaki 7267 Aside from "Squid Baby" and "The Little Yellow Book" Season 9 is actually quite solid.
Oh yeah, that too
SpongeBob You're Fired is my most hated episode through, still decent season.
***** all time.
The Johto12 l don't like Extreme Spots too but it's definitely not terrible
Great theory on how you rate the SB episodes! :)
I’m thinking of doing this for American Dad reviewing every episode of the series
i know this has nothing to do with the video but heres my top 10 for the sereis inclueding season 10 and 11
he shaved. its different!!!!!!!!
This is an interesting video C:
I like your system and I think you should stick to it when you get to different shows. Good, meh, and depending on the show have a specialized bad rating. It keeps people familiar with your style of reviews.
This may seem like a strange request, but it would be awesome to see an always sunny every episode rating.
I do want to see a scumbob picture for each episode
we can disagree? then i like i was a teenage gary
l rate them after my first watch. l believe the first watch and my first impression of an episode is the one that counts, mostly because when l rewatch an episode l really don't have a big reaction, it's more like "yeah, okay, l just saw that". that's also why unlike you, l don't think about rewatchability as a parameter, because most of my feelings for an episode come up after the first viewing. that's not to say l don't rewatch, just not as religiously as you. when l do, it's just for funsies. that's also not to say l just watch an episode and just rate it immediately in the 5 seconds after. though in a most times l watch an episode and just know were it lands, there have been quite a few cases where l wasn't sure what to rate an episode and took a lot of thought into coming up with what to rate it. as to the rating system, the 5 ratings system l use (supreme, good, fine, bad, horrendous) is still my favorite, as I like being able to tell the pretty good episodes from the truely fantastic ones, and the kinda lackluster ones from the massive dump piles. but of course if you feel more comfortable in a 3 ratings system, that's cool and you should stick to that. cool video and nice to see a bit of your process, and you can expect me to post a comment stating my ratings for each episode of a season as long as l'm done with that season. l already done that with season 5 as that's the only season l watched entirely, and you can look it up on the comment section for PieGuy's season 5 review.
EDIT: also done ones for season every season except 6 and the yet to be completed 12.
You shaved... :stare:
thetattooedyoshi. 😁
Atleast he looks like his avi now.
I always hated his goatee...he shaved!
I'm reviewing every episode of Dexter's Laboratory and I'm using 4 ratings, GREAT EPISODE (The Seal of Approval), Good Episode (Good...duh), Meh Episode (watchable. Not bad but not good. Just watchable), and Dexter Disaster (Bad Episode). So far, I've revisited the first two seasons and the TV movie, Ego Trip, and I thought Season 1 was good, but not really good, Season 2 was an improvement over Season 1 and Season 2 is a very good season with my top four being the best episodes in the series IMO, and I enjoyed Ego Trip, Good Movie, although I can understand why people can be disappointed with it, but it beats watching any Good Episode from Season 1. Right now, I'm taking a break from that show until I'm ready to watch, revisit, and review Seasons 3 and 4 and because of how controversial these two seasons are, I'm sure that it's going to be very hard to form an opinion on.
you look like drake from drake and josh
that'd be a good show for him to review. no wait, even better! iCarly!!!!
+Domeju I think it would be nice for him to do series overviews of those shows instead of just single episode reviews.
Notice me.
Plz
Yes i see you
Pieguyrulz I like your SpongeBob T Shirt thanks nick
error 404: beard not found
I personally think that a four rating system works better, because if you're talking to a friend and telling them that what SpongeBob episodes that they NEED to watch, it makes sense to have a category like AWESOME or SPECTACULAR or something. This is a way to differentiate something like Pizza Delivery from BubbleStand. Yes, they're both good episodes, but Pizza Delivery is generally considered an AMAZING episode. Putting all of those in the same pool doesn't let people know which good episodes are just enjoyable, and which ones are must see. You don't really need anymore than that though, because if something is mediocre or bad, they don't care how bad or mediocre it is, they'll avoid it anyways, unless they like watching so bad it's good stuff.
Is there plans for a Review on another Controversial Episode in this case Oral Report
Almost to 50,000 subscribers!!!!
Love ur shirt pieguyrulz
If I make reviews of video games specific, for some reason, I want it to be a number out of what ever the price was. For example, a newly release game would be $60. So I would rate it something/60. This could get a little confusing though as not every video game would be release at 60 bucks, some may be 50 so I have to rate it something/50. So not all games may get an equal playing field. Digital games I imagine would add further to the confusion since they're so low priced, I would have to rate them something/15 or however many the game would cost at launch. I like my idea, but I can imagine it would cause confusion.
Aw sheeet, clean shavin' pieguy
I cant wait for season 10 review
say Pieguy, what are some episodes you found really hard to rate, and how did you eventually come up with the ratings for them?
Have you considered reviewing Ed, Edd'n, Eddy? It is one of those shows I think people slightly over praise and over look certain episodes.
he has
This man gets paid for watching SpongeBob.
No Name I never realised that. Lol. I would love that job
7.8/10 Too much water
your shirt is giving me life 👌👌
How about you make a new square theory about why some episodes that have cheap stories and cheap action scene(from Season 6 to 8)?
Whoa! You shaved, you look younger. (Not that, that's a bad thing). Thanks for showing us how you rate the episodes. XD.
Really, the part where I get most confused is how something ended up in "Meh" whether you seem to be mostly positive or negative about them...
Also, brand new word, "Mehness"
Meh is basically an average episode.
I prefer not having a rating, rather let the review speak for itself instead labeling it with a number
How long does it usually take to watch an entire season for an "Every Episode" video?
However long a season is
I love your shirt... where have I seen that?
oh yes, in me closet. ♡
A A A A A
I HAVE THAT SHIRT
looking good shaved clean
+pieguyrulez have you ever seen or heard of this show on disney called dog with a blog if so can please do a review on the you're not my sister anymore episode and every episode of season 3 and tell me what you think about it in you're next video please
Can i use your rating system on my youtube videos? ANSWER TODAY PLEASE
I think a three rating system is perfect. You got a lot of hate for the timeliness of your videos anyway. You never needed those same people to hate on you because you gave an episode a 8.5 or something instead of like an 8.6 or 8.7. Personally I do not agree with all of your episode ratings but I appreciate you explaining why you rate an episode the way you do. What is it about That episode that makes it rate that way for you. Sometimes for me nostalgia clouds my judgement and I’ll rate an episode better than it should. Or in the case of an episode like “Enchanted Tiki Dreams” I’ll rate it one way for awhile because I’ve only seen half the episode each time it comes on tv and then once I see the episode as a whole a have a different take. I have always admired the amount of work it takes for you to do these episode reviews. I consider myself a huge fan of the pre first movie episodes and know more than I care to about those episodes but I haven’t spent much time at all with my thoughts surrounding the post first movie episodes. I did get into season 4 quite a bit and most if not all of season 5. I began to loose interest sort of in season 6. I watched a few of the not half bad ones of that season, but my least favorite episode of all time “Pet or Pests” is in this season so I don’t watch that one ever. I watched about half of season 7 but just kind of stopped watching at this point. I think it was my being turned off my Nickelodeon in general with the exception of like one or two additional shows. I would want to (if I have time in the future) watch every episode in order from season 4 to today (end of 2021) and see how I feel about these episodes after either not seeing them for a long time or watching them with fresh eyes (at least half of season 8, almost all of season 9, all of 10 I think, of course all of season 11 almost all of season 12, and all of season 13. I can’t believe how many seasons there are by now). I just want to say I have seen every episode to date and have an opinion of all of them in order. That would take a long time but I could do that one season at a time over time. In a way I am kind of glad you stopped doing every episode Spongebob reviewed because with a show like this that is so tethered to the existence of a network, the show will not be ending for a very long time and you will not be running out of episodes to review and more and more people will be frustrated with you for your lack of timeliness. That being said and going back to my original point of your rating system, there is never a reason to need more than three ratings for a review series like this. It is easy (within reason) to categorize any show into good, bad, or meh ratings. As long as these ratings are backed up with solid support (like I mentioned above yours do) then this should satisfy most people. Those who it doesn’t satisfy weren’t going to be enjoying the series in the first place.
Holy cow Frozen, how the heck are ya?
Pieguysrules last comment you should be happy
Only thing that I wouldn't mind having changed, maybe if you go to a different series, that the "Bad" rating has "Scumbob" while Good and Meh don't. To be honest, for this series, Meh would be "Bob" and Good would be "Spongebob", as in it's a good Spongebob episode, it's a true, actual Spongebob episode.
I found "Bob Episode" way more amusing than I should have.
Rating system
Amazing: I could watch 1000 times over and over and not get bored (probably not lol) (Band Geeks, Hello Bikini Bottom!, Teacher's Pests etc.)
Great: pretty good episode (Ripped Pants, Frankledoodle Best Day Ever etc.)
Good: they are usually overrated or overhated (SB-129, Friend Or Foe, Boating Buddies)
Meh: it's not good or bad (To Love A Patty, Stuck In The Wringer, Sanctuary!)
Bad: Bad but not too bad (The Splinter, Pet Or Pests)
Awful: Getting really bad there (Haven't used yet)
Garbage: IT SHOULD DIE IN HELL!! (haven't used yet)
My opinion on how I'd rate the episodes has changed, same rating scale. But the episodes used as examples makes zero sense
I like your shirt
Personally, I have 4 ratings, Great (which is like a Good Episode, but much more higher. Think of it as the seal of approval and when it comes to charts, it will join the good episode ratting to see if it along with the good can out number the meh and the bad combined. But, if there are more great episodes than good episodes and if the good episodes out number the meh and the bad also, then it will be a great season.), Good (just a good episode that's exciting, interesting, funny, and a well written story), meh (not bad but at the same time not good. Just Watchable), and bad (when an episode is poorly written, boring, frustrating, annoying, cruel, mean, unfunny, or any other problems that put in that territory.)
Jonny Boy why
emo bird
IDK. Thought I'd include the seal of approval. Plus, when I do the Top 5, it would be easy for me to form one since there are few shows that have too many great episodes that I'd had to revisit each one so I can figure out which episodes are worthy of joining to top 5, like Dexter's Laboratory Season 2. It contains 39 episodes. That's alot of episodes. That when the Great ratting can be helpful so it'll make my rewatching of these episodes more easier.
I have 5 ratings.
Masterpiece - Where everything about this episode is perfect (Chocolate with nuts, krusty krab training video)
Good - The normal good episode.
Meh - Split between the middle.
Debatable - Episodes that are frustrating or boring depending on the favor, but can be solved with a debate or talk dissecting the episode thoroughly.
Scumbob - Bad episodes. (SpongeHenge and Are you Happy now are in my bottom 4)
BaldyAir Kid I hate those scumbob episodes
I believe when a person watches a reviewer enough, I don't need to see their rating to know how they feel about an episode and if I will agree or disagree with their reviews and ultimately whether I will enjoy his or her reviews. All reviewers have their biases. One reviewer prides himself on being objective, but it was obvious he did not like mean spirited humor, and those episodes never got good ratings. Nothing wrong with it, but something good to note if someone likes petty humor at another character's expense.
This comment reminds me of videogamedunkey's video "game critics" where he brings up a similar point. No reviewer is perfect, but the good ones are at least consistent so you can always figure out their individual quirks and shortcomings and understand when you disagree with their rulings. Pieguyrulz for example is (relatively speaking) not too bothered by gross out and is usually willing to overlook flaws in an episode if he finds it funny. The reviewer you mentioned (I'm pretty sure I got him right) absolutely hates mean-spirited humor and favors story more than anything else. As a result, it's easy to understanding their differences of opinion on episodes like I'm With Stupid and House Fancy.
My rating system (A complex version of PieGuy's version)
SCUMBOB!!! - I hated this so much I don't want to watch again in my life!!!
Trash - It's not good I hate so much.
Very Bad - Nearly passable but NO!
Bad - It's passable but I don't like it.
Meh - It's ok I don't mind watching it again.
Good - It's good but it has flaws in it.
Very Good - It's good in a special way and I surely want to watch again for a few times.
Amazing!!! - It's so good that I can watch it over and I might get tired of it but it's so good.
