Can the show become better if they made episodes of unlikely pairings? - I watched an episode where Plankton and Squidward worked together to make a popular restaurant and it is one of my favorite post movie episodes. I only watched it once, years ago, but it might not be as good as I remember it to be. How would an episode with Pearl and Sandy end up? Squidward and Sandy? Plankton and Squilliam?
Cali Spaniel There was an episode that paired Plankton and Sandy, which was interesting. A "Squidward and Sandy" episode would be interesting, since they rarely interact. It was weird seeing them interact in the episode "Squidtastic Voyage", because I don't think they had ever interacted for that long of a duration beforehand. I don't think Squidward had ever been in Sandy's Treedome.
***** I saw the two new episodes tonight, and.... they're not atrocious, but they were rather weird. What was up with Patrick and the "executive business men" episode?
I have a theory that spongebob is actually annoying squidward on purpose because if you think about it there's been hints in a couple episodes like I remember in April fool's day I think he said annoy squid is on that day and at some points it's kinda obvious at some moments for spongebob to know
Actually, I'm pretty sure that when Spongebob and Patrick talking about purposefully "ruining squid's day" or "annoying squidward," it's one of two things: 1. Spongebob and Patrick are joking about the way Squidward reacts to their shenanigans. They don't see that they do any real harm to him (and often, in the earlier seasons, they don't. In fact, the one episode in the first couple seasons where it is blatantly obvious that they hurt him - Jellyfishing - they actually apologize and try to make it up). They take his stuck-up and angry reactions as a big joke, so of course they would make jokes about him saying that they "ruin his day." 2. The creators are just making jokes about generalizations that can be made about the show.
Akus4ever Yeah, a couple of the really bad episodes don't really fit into my formula, but I blame the newer writers for that. But I don't think that making Spongebob mean was the original writers' original purpose. The older episodes treat it as more of a joke, like in Home Sweet Pineapple where patrick says "is it time already to ruin Squid's day? Hey, Spongebob, don't start without me!" It seems to be more of an "ongoing joke" between Patrick and Spongebob, referencing the fact that Squidward always overreacts.
The "why is old Spongebob so rewatchable" made me realize something about the show: A lot of new episodes have been boring. Old episodes usually had good pacing and would hit you with a bunch of jokes every minute. A lot of new episodes tend to drag on slowly with either boring, unfunny, and/or overly long gags. Which might explain why people think of the gross stuff more often like the splinter or one course meal, they tend to stick out more then some of the more boring episodes of the later seasons.
ScottPillgram20 Yeah!!! I think the problem with new Spongebob is that the jokes aren't funny.(And some they try to drag out like the Doorbell gag is not funny!!!!!!! Because what's so god damn funny about that? No really writers why is it suppose to be funny?) And I do notice that yeah the older episodes had a better pace to their jokes.(It's like joke after joke after joke in a good rhythm but not going overboard with the jokes) I can also say the jokes in Modern Spongebob are just way too damn obvious. It's like yeah I know haha Mr. Krabs is greedy, haha Patrick's a moron, hahaha Spongebob is now a strange guy, etc. That's not funny that's stating the obvious you writers.-_- I honestly believe this show should of ended years ago.(Like honestly give me a Season 1-3 episode and I will laugh my ass off at almost any episode. Give me a Season 4-5 episode and it may be funny a little bit but not exactly making me laugh so damn much, and for a Season 6-whatever episode and I will probably gag first before I laugh.) I believe IMO the show should of ended somewhere in season 5.
Super Gamer61499 Which does explain why great episodes that are very entertaining like Arrgh, Fry Cook Games, The Battle of Bikini Bottom, Krab Borg, or Kerate Island are so tricky to find because when Season 6 came in, Spongebob offically hit rock bottom, which Seasons 4-5 were just sending SB downhill. And by the way, I think Season 4 while nowhere comepared to Seasons 1-3, it was memorable and I thought Season 5 was an improvement, the strongest of the modern seasons, and very underrated.
Jonny Boy No I agree with you on those seasons. They're definitely way better than Season 6,7, or even 8 will ever be IMO.(I can't say much for Season 9 but I heard it was pretty good for a season so hey maybe Spongebob may get better.(I just hope it will get better I know it won't be seasons 1-3 good but at least be 4-5 good. If you writers can do it I would be really happy.))
here's the big question that really baffles me... do kids like the new spongebob!? we hear so much discussion on teens and adults points of views on the show... but what about it's intended audience... they can't honestly like this new spongebob over the original... do they? if they do, why do they like it? if they don't, why is the show still running?
I am so looking forward to the Sandy being underused Square Theory because that what really frustraits me in the new episodes, aside of continuity errors that are a spit in the face to Seasons 1-3 and how any interesting and excelent episode can take a while to find. I'm also am interested in can the new episodes damage the interest in the old episodes Square Theory because there exist people who bash some classic episodes because "Patrick was a jerk," must I bring up I'm With Stupid, or "Squidward was being tortured," like in Jellyfishing.
Jonny Boy well, if Sandy is one of the main characters I guess she can be considered 'underused." but if the writers (or whoever is in charge, which ISN'T us) don't consider her one of the main characters, then we can't really consider her "underuse'. We don't have to like something, but we're not in charge. They are.
Can the new episodes hurt the old episodes? No, the quality of the episodes doesn't diminish just because new episodes exist. Can the new episodes hurt our perception of the old episodes? DEFINITELY. There's a lot of new episodes that go the extra mile to make characters unlikeable, and when you don't like the character it's going to be harder to enjoy seeing them, even in the older episodes.
The continuity part made me remember a newer episode I happened to catch a glimpse of on T.V. that had Bubble Buddy return. Apparently the episode's called "Bubble Buddy Returns." Huh. I have no idea how it is, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
***** Yeah, I remember something about not popping his son. I only caught the trail end of it, so I didn't remember for sure. Even still, the fact that Bubble Buddy appeared for the episode makes this more continuity heavy than the majority of other episodes.
I'd like a Square Theory on SB being aromantic. Has he always been aromantic? What about hints about him and Pearl, or him and Sandy? What about the episodes To Love A Patty or Gone?
Jay Tee Dubbs Stephen Hillenburg has always been an executive producer on SpongeBob. However, it's never been clear how much creative control he had and he went largely uncredited after the movie.
Funny Enough, I would have requested the Sandy Square Theory. As for the New Episodes ruining the old ones, I think Friend or Foe and One Coarse Meal are one of the best examples of that.
there was a nod in the season 4 episode Driven to tears when spongebob said he used to have a dream and his dream from season 3 is to fly with the jelly fish.
Pretty cool bullet list here, good sir. ;) Oh, and you forgot one very important bullet for your "How Would I Make a Spongebob TV Movie?" *ahem* (oh, and I'm not shouting at you, dude. I'm shouting at Nickelodeon) DON'T LIE TO YOUR AUDIENCE TO MAKE A FRIGGIN' RATINGS TRAP!!!! Seriously, that's what originally made me leave the Spongebob fandom!! When I was younger, and the shows were getting worse and worse, I was barely holding on to my Spongebob fan base by a string. Then...the infamouse episode "Truth or Square" came out! Just like Nostalgia Critic fell for the Roland Emerich movies, I too fell for this "special's" promises! Were Spongebob and Sandy a couple?! Were we REALLY finally going to learn the secret Krabby Patty Formula?! Were all these and much more of our answers finally come to light?! ....... Nope. Nickelodeon back stabbed it's fanbase. How nieve I was to think otherwise. It gave us an insultingly bad "special" and gave it's fan base the ol' bait and switch! And that's when I finally gave up on Spongebob.
Pieguy I know youve already done this but that was a while ago and your way better since then, but I think you should revisit Invader ZIM as a whole. Theres been alot going on since then heck it even got a comic book.
here is some ideas for next Square Theory 1 should Sponge bob get his boating license 2 should Squidward have a girlfriend or Patrick 3 should krabby patty secret formula revealed
Well here's the thing. If Sandy is supposed to be one of the main characters, then yes I can say she's underused (though it doesn't dive me crazy like it does other ppl, and I love Sandy). Because if the writers (or creator whatever) don't want her to be that, then we can't really say she's "underused". Otherwise, I'm gonna say Pearl and Larry the lobster are underused as well. It's up to them, not us.
Hey PIEGUY, I know this isn't related to the video but are you gonna watch the Season 10 premiere of Fairly Oddparents? There's a new character being introduced.
Who's excited for the new Schneider show!?!?!?!? Said no one in the history of Nickelodeon. And yes, there is going to be a new one in September, Whoopee.
I know you've probably been hearing this question a whole lot from your fans, and I'm sorry for asking, but how are things coming along with the Season 7 Spongebob reviews? I know they take a lot of time and effort to produce, but I'm just curious if you are planning on making it.
***** Really, you consider Steven Universe to just be following a trend? Huh...well personally I don't but regardless I'll give some of those shows you mentioned a shot. "Marin Mystery" looked particularly interesting.
You should review the fairly odd parents trilogy. The three big movies that came out (don't remember what they're called) but it involves Timmy saving the world from the darkness. What do you guys think about it cause I know a lot of people like and a lot of people don't.
wariolandgoldpiramid Oh yeah.... Wasn't that kind of like a Star Wars ish kind of trilogy? No really I may not remember it that much but I do remember it did barrow a ton of elements from Star Wars.(I actually thought when I first watched them they were fucking awesome. I was actually hoping Timmy and Trixie were gonna be a couple after this trilogy but no..... It has to go back to the status quote and it annoyed me as a kid.)
+Super Gamer61499 yeah now that I think about it, it did seem like Star Wars a little bit. I saw it when I was 8 and I liked it. I haven't seen it in a really long time but my friend doesn't like it because they don't think that the characters act like themselves. So I'm not sure what to think about it. I hope nick plays it at least once so I can actually remember it more
I'm tired of everyone's opinions on SpongeBob, Patrick and Mr. Krabs. SpongeBob has not become a weirdo, Patrick is not a full-time jerk and Mr. Krabs isn't only obsessed with money. I've seen a lot of post-movie episodes, and in general, they are the same characters. I think Squidward is the only one who has changed. He has always been grumpy, but the only thing he has today is his bitterness. Today, he goes into a rage for very small things. And he has also tried to KILL SpongeBob in several episodes for no reason. Also, Sandy isn't as underused as people think. But it would definitely be funny if she appeared a lot more, since she's my favorite character, besides SpongeBob and Patrick.
***** is we bare bears one, it's cartoon network's latest show, I've been following it and even though we're only in the 1st season i know i love it already.
Eldritch Pikmin I know. But honestly how would they even copyright something like this? They would do better copyrighting something with actual footage!!(Even then it's not legal. So either way they're assholes when it comes to ignoring fair use.)
***** I really would love for you to talk about my theory (request): Did the success of "SpongeBob" have a bad impact on Nickelodeon and the TV animation industry in the late 2000s-early 2010s? Here are my arguments: 1.) Continuous ratings allowed them to do less work supplying other creative programming. 2.) The show inspired knock-offs or lazy writing in other cartoons just to make a quick buck. (ex. Breadwinners, Fanboy & ChumChum, Coconut Fred,)
+Mairead Malesco what's Nickelodeon? sponge-bob airs on the sponge-bob network. the one that has a orange logo as in his pineapple. it airs sponge-bob marathons everyday plus some other shows. just kidding. yes, i think for a while there it did have a bad impact on nick. in the later half of the 2000's. like you said it inspired rip offs and made them care less of making good new shows. knowing they have their cash cow ready. to the point of...again, just showing non stop sponge-bob.
Oh Yeah PieGuy, I''ve always wondered about the head cannon that the characters in SpongeBob are the result of nuclear testing. That'd make a good Square Theory www.cracked.com/article_19882_6-insane-but-convincing-fan-theories-about-kids-cartoons.html
Great recap, but how do you come up with your square theories or just theories in general because i'd like some help on making some of my own aswell. Is there some type of process you go through?
It's mostly just stuff I think about while working on SpongeBob reviews. There isn't much of a process other than realizing a pattern or noticing something odd and figuring out a possible explanation for why it is the way it is.
Can New Spongebob hurt the old episodes? I would say no. It hasn't for me I still found the characters in those episodes likable, the gags were funny, any hearwarming moment IMO is still in tact, etc etc etc. Honestly this may be just me but I don't let the New episodes hurt the old episodes.(And honestly isn't that a stupid question Pieguy? I mean you still like seasons 1-3 so then obviously the answer is no it doesn't ruin the old episodes.)
It actually could, but not the way you described it. Let me put it this way. Season 3 is the current season of Spongebob. I really hate "I'm with stupid". Now season 4 is released. I now loath "Good neighbors". It's worse than anything S1-3 can put out. I now appreciate "I'm with stupid" for at least being funny. Now season 5 is released... You get the idea. So, the bland episodes in S1-3 are now good in COMPARISON to later bad episodes.
Magnus Minimum So you're saying newer episodes (that are worse) can fix some of the blander episodes from being bad to good? Huh I never thought of it like that.(So episodes like Jelly Fishing I appreciate more after episodes like the Thing? I never would of thought of it like that. Well thanks for that little theory it's actually pretty cool to think about that.)
Super Gamer61499 I once had a reply similar to yours and I actually thought he was serious, only to find out later that he was being sarcastic and basically made a fool out of my self XD. I just got a little paranoid, that's all.
Woot, keep up the good work PieGuy. I know you're hyping up that next season review. :D
GlitchyShadow13 ***** You gotta understand, Squiggly Rectangular Polygon Theory just doesn't have that ring to it.

Episode where Mr. Krabs being cheap is done correctly. Safe Deposit Krabs
Yep
I don't really know why
I take that back. They don't like it because Mr. Krabs wins at the end for being cheap.
***** I guess it is that he is looked up upon for being cheap
***** Whatever. It's stupid I think the episode is good.
I'd like a Square Theory on SB being aromantic. Has he always been aromantic? What about hints about him and Pearl, or him and Sandy?

Didn't Spongebob hint at liking Sandy beyond friendship, though?
This was a nice little recap :) Doing one of these every few videos is a good idea.
Hey Pieguy, have you seen Tutor Sauce yet? It's the best new episode in a while and Stephen Hillenberg executive produced it.
Agreed
People have opinions, and that's fine. I thought it was good.
Jacob Tonelli at the very least, at least the characters weren't assholes; Mr. Krabs actually gave Pearl money.
Jay Tee Dubbs probably not, since he's watching all the episodes in order.

here's a new Square Theory: The SpongeBod Movie 2 takes place before the first movie, think about it!
That's pretty obvious. No need for a theory
+wariolandgoldpiramid I agree it's quite obvious.
***** true, true.
SuperSpaceGirlHDTV I just think it's bad continuity.
The first movie takes place last in the continuity. (At least, the little continuity spongebob has.)

My sister has the same shirt you have in this video, PieGuyRulz.
100th like yeee! Great video and great idea for someone who doesn't have time to watch the whole series!

well i mean we do have larry he is the closest thing we have to a true character who doesn't appear very often but oftenenough to be remembered
I'd like to see you theorize this, "should Patchy and Potty stick around?"
I think they should, but they should put more effort into the writing and effects.

Are you going to do a rant on a Teen Titans Go! episode called "the Return of Slade"? The title was merely a ratings trap!
Are you going to review We Bare Bears?
***** And with Steven Universe and Gravity Falls, still are.
***** I listed those 2 specifically because they're the most popular.
And by "still are" I mean that cartoons still are great these days.

Hey pieguyrulz I've got a square theory for you. Why does one course meal exist?
*SPOILER ALERT*

I haven't seen it in a really long time but my friend doesn't like it because they don't think that the characters act like themselves. So I'm not sure what to think about it. I hope nick plays it at least once so I can actually remember it more
Yay
I would like to see a square theory on is Modern SpongeBob the meanest show on earth?
*****
Yeah Definitely. -_-
Can you review Henry Danger Captin Jerk for the Bottom of the bakery
I wounder when he is uploading the Season 7 reveiw
I like your shirt. ;)
for some reason he wears that shirt all the time

I'm not sure whether or not if someone asked this already, but are you planning on reviewing Rick & Morty anytime soon? ^_^
Yeah it's high priority on my list of shows to review.
***** Great! Can't wait till then :D
***** is we bare bears one, it's cartoon network's latest show, I've been following it and even though we're only in the 1st season i know i love it already.
+PIEGUYRULZ and maybe We Bare Bears
Yeah it's high priority on my list of shows to review.
do seaon 7 of spongbobe
If you were to show this to Viacom/Nickelodeon, what would they say?
Who knows? Maybe time will tell.
They would take down the video.
Eldritch Pikmin They can't though. It's not even using any pictures from the show for gods sake. How the hell can you copyright these?
Super Gamer61499 Viacom is a pack of rabid wolves when it comes to copyright.
Here are my arguments:
1.) Continuous ratings allowed them to do less work supplying other creative programming.
2.) The show inspired knock-offs or lazy writing in other cartoons just to make a quick buck. (ex. Breadwinners, Fanboy & ChumChum, Coconut Fred,)
Mairead Malesco I think I have something similar to that in the works.
*****
Do you review animated webshows? If so, I'd recommend you to do a review on RWBY.
Mairead Malesco true, but i feel the show shouldn't get the blame for what other people decided to do with it.
That'd make a good Square Theory
www.cracked.com/article_19882_6-insane-but-convincing-fan-theories-about-kids-cartoons.html
ImprovDude20 oh and one more: the backstory of how Mr. Krabs had Pearl as his adoptive daughter.
I'm pretty sure that's confirmed.
Just make a goddamn motherfucking SpongeBob season seven review already
Sir Yes Sir
Great recap, but how do you come up with your square theories or just theories in general because i'd like some help on making some of my own aswell. Is there some type of process you go through?
It's mostly just stuff I think about while working on SpongeBob reviews. There isn't much of a process other than realizing a pattern or noticing something odd and figuring out a possible explanation for why it is the way it is.
***** Can you do a bottom of the bakery of Henry danger: man of the house and victorious :brain squeezers?
can you do teen titans go episode hot garbages
review we bare bears!!
I love your voice
I want your voice
PGR will totally, completely, for sure, never, ever, reply to this very comment.
(He's going to reply to this, isn't he?)
Super Gamer61499 Are you being sarcastic or serious? Sorry, it's hard to tell in text form lol.
Magnus Minimum Serious. Why do you ask?
Super Gamer61499 I once had a reply similar to yours and I actually thought he was serious, only to find out later that he was being sarcastic and basically made a fool out of my self XD. I just got a little paranoid, that's all.
