I did not expect "Gary in Love" to be so low on the list. It's not as good as I remember it being, but 3.5 is harsh, especially with the Splinter being above it.
Streaming prints (at least in the UK, on Now TV and Netflix) pair this episode with the infamous episode ‘One Coarse Meal’, thus bringing down the rating of both episodes.
I missed when Patrick had depth as a character, and that being ignorant wasn't his only defining trait. You can tell that the writers don't know what to do with some of the characters anymore with how badly flanderized they are.
A Pal For Gary feels like the writers forgot what show they were writing for and made an episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog. Then they were like "shit, this is Nickelodeon!" and literally replaced all the names in the script with Spongebob and Gary

23:53 To be fair, i'm pretty sure it's a running gag that Squilliam is introduced like that in every episode he's in. It's always a variation of "Squilliam Fancyson from band class"
You're telling me that the episode where Plankton steals Sandy's skin for his latest secret formula scheme and Sandy is forced to walk around Bikini Bottom practically nude was not listed as one of the worst? That episode deeply upset me when I saw it in a way no other episode did.
The reason people dislike some of these episodes is because they seem needlessly cruel, we don’t want to see the characters become cruel sociopaths or cruel and stupid like in Patrick’s case. If a character gets hurt we want it too feel like they did something to deserve it. These episodes take things too far.
I saw someone else talk about how they didn't understand why Gary in Love got a low rating in this comment section. And then someone in that op's reply said that it probably got a low rating because of the episode it got paired up with. Most likely had to suffer the blunt that One Coarse Meal gave it.
17:39 yeah about that, it isn't accurate at all, Pearl is a sperm whale, a toothed whale, they don't eat plankton, they eat bigger stuff like giant squids. In fact, Plankton should be more terrified of SpongeBob since sea sponges are filter feeders, they pass water trough their bodies and filter out debris from it, including plankton.
The whales in the projection at the end are the proper filter feeder whales, but it kind of loses weight when so much of the episode was spreading lies about sperm whales being filter feeders. If anyone should be scared of Pearl, it should be Squidward, because sperm whales eat octopi and squid. Feral Friends did actually get this right, thankfully.
@@pepearown4968i speculate the original idea of the script/plot was with Squidward (classic squidward torture trope) But they realized it was overplayed so they switched to plankton as if nobody would notice

They could've changed the scenes of the episode of pearls 'growth spurt.' The no. One worst episode in my opinion is "Gone" In which everyone except Spongebob goes missing and he lives their lives but then he becomes lonely and goes crazy when everyone comes back turns out it was national no Spongebob week so everyone went away and built a wooden effigy of him and burns it to the ground and dances on the ashes. I... I didn't know what to say or think about that episode 😢 it made me feel... Feel
That episode was unnerving when I was younger. The quiet, empty spaces. The abandoned city. Spongebob's slow descent into madness. WTF were the writers thinking when they made that episode...? And the amount of anger they had towards him. A lot of those people were supposed to be his friends. It's honestly one of those episodes where if it came on, I would just change the channel. Because why would I want to watch Spongebob turn lonely?
While "Stuck in the Wringer" is worse in my personal opinion, I still can't understand how SpongeBob blames Gary for everything Puffy Fluffy did. I don't know if SpongeBob was either blind or completely braindead when he saw Puffy Fluffy eating Gary alive. No apology at the end. Another thing which makes no sense is that SpongeBob also blames Gary for destroying his house in one night, although Gary is only a small snail.
19:03 Ah yes. His biggest fear. Isn't losing all of his money, the formula or his daughter. Not even ghosts or TARTAR SAUCE. It's clowns. Because HAHA FUNNY.
if I had to guess I'd think his worst fear is Plankton having the formula, his worst fear Plankton could present to him would be the destruction of money, look at Plankton vs Krabs where he goes crazy from SpongeBob putting a dollar in a blender Krabby Land where he exploits CHILDREN for money Mr. Krabs Takes a Vacation where he started crying from seeing destroying money was part of the process of making new money Ghoul Fools where Krabs steals treasure from a ghost and this back and forth happens "it probably has a bunch of ghost germs on it" "don't be silly...there's no such thing as germs"
Overwhelming majority of animation fandom seems to agree to put "A Pal For Gary" as the worst episode in the whole entirety of Spongebob franchise And for me personally, and as a pet owner myself, that episode offends me. A thing that annoyed is me how much they infantillised and dumbed down spongebob. In early seasons he may have been silly and stupid at times but he was still competent
Yeah I noticed that too. In old episodes he could actually be pretty smart and caring even though he was goofy and childish. In the new seasons they really highlight the stupid and childish behaviour.
After the creator passed away it was never the same, episodes began to be disgusting and made no sense and then go spin offs? Like wtf “Kamp Koral” and “The Patrick Show” don’t even make any sense. My thoughts on the Top 10 Worst Episodes and how I could fix them. 10. Squiditis - I didn't find many faults with this episode. Personally, I would've preferred the original title, "Hypochondriac Sponge" and maybe rewrite it like this. Have a sick customer walk into the Krusty Krab and have SpongeBob freak out and soon believe that he is sick, fails to treat himself, and run out in a panic. Then have Mr. Krabs order Squidward to convince SpongeBob that he isn't sick in exchange for the next two days off due to the nice weather coming soon. Squidward, through a series of gags, does manages to convince SpongeBob and the latter returns to work. When SpongeBob sees that Squidward hadn't come in the next day, SpongeBob concludes that Squidward caught the sickness he had. But this is not the case and Squidward is shown enjoying the nice day and ending the episode by saying, "who knew being sick felt so good." 9. Demolition Doofus - Instead of having Mrs. Puff go crazy due to not being able to puff, have the only way to restore Mrs. Puff's puffing being a re-inflation surgery but she's not able to afford it. Upon hearing that there is a big cash prize for winning the demolition derby, Mrs. Puff decides to use SpongeBob's reckless driving at the derby so he can get extra credit and she gets the money she needs for the surgery. No malice intent as Mrs. Puff tells SpongeBob to imagine that he's on the driving course and he does and succeeds at the derby, winning the prize for Mrs. Puff. There would also be a running gag of SpongeBob calling Mrs. Puff "Penny" after learning her first name is Penelope when Mrs. Puff calls herself a genius, much to her ire. The episode even ends with her regretting telling SpongeBob her first name. 8. Stuck in the Wringer - Easy fix! I even had my idea featured on PhantomStrider's channel. Instead of purposefully gluing SpongeBob into the wringer, have Patrick not know where he even got the glue and give it to SpongeBob while he's in the wringer. Then have Patrick use grease on his hands like chalk so he could pull SpongeBob out only to get slingshotted back and make SpongeBob wince, squeeze the glue bottle, and accidentally glue himself in the wringer. Then, spend the rest of the episode having Patrick (believing that gluing SpongeBob into the wringer was his fault) trying to find the solvent for the glue, get Sandy involved with creating the solvent, and take SpongeBob to the carnival to cheer him up instead of causing more pain and suffering. Since Sandy reveals, despite having the glue, it will take her a few days to create the solvent. As for the carnival scene, have Patrick win SpongeBob the seahorse plush instead of having SpongeBob fail to play the game and have the spinning ride fiasco be Patrick not thinking things through. As for the bit with crying, Patrick works hard to not cry during the whole episode as he wants to remain strong and crying doesn't solve any problems. But at the end of the episode, at the carnival, SpongeBob fails to eat ice cream and this causes Patrick to break down and the two inadvertently discover that tears are the solvent for said glue. They cry and SpongeBob is freed. But instead of saying that crying solves all problems, have SpongeBob say, "I guess crying can solve SOME problems after all." Then SpongeBob and Patrick both end up stuck in the wringer and Patrick, wanting to know if Sandy's solvent works as well as crying says, "If you want to see if Sandy's salt-vent works, the glue's in my back pocket" 7. Growth Spout - Honestly, nothing should be changed here. I think the episode was fine and was the only reason why Stuck in the Wringer wasn't any lower 6. Slide-Whistle Stooges - Yeah, this one is a tough one to fix. Maybe get SpongeBob and Patrick to do cartoon sound effects for a new Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy cartoon? I don't know. 5. The Splinter - Less gross imagery and remove Dr. Patrick from the episode. Enough said 4. One Coarse Meal - I've heard that this episode should be about Pearl taking over the Krusty Krab while Mr. Krabs is at the Penny Pincher's convention and Plankton work on facing his fear of whales to get the formula 3. Gary in Love - Okay, this episode was great. It was only so low on the list because of its sister episode. 2. Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful - I'd say have the policeman be less of a stalker, do not have Squidward steal the wagon, and less trash problems. I mean, HOW can the dump be closed? Although I did like the creative end with the statue made out of garbage. Now that's what I call recycling 1. A Pal For Gary - SpongeBob should've been more aware of Puffy Fluffy but denies his actions due to Puffy Fluffy remaining in his cute form. For instance, when Puffy Fluffy destroys the chew toy, SpongeBob does see the shreds and does listen to Gary when he claims that Puffy Fluffy did it. But, due to Pudfy Fluffy remaining in his cute form, SpongeBob just tells Gary to not be so rough with his toys and he'll buy him a new one tomorrow. Then, when SpongeBob sees Puffy Fluffy about to eat Gary, SpongeBob is flabbergasted and wonders what happened to Puffy Fluffy only to remember the pet stand lady's words he ignored earlier. SpongeBob berates himself for not listening to begin with then orders Puffy Fluffy to put Gary down only for Puffy to try and eat SpongeBob instead. SpongeBob tries to apologize to Gary as he fights back Puffy Fluffy then Gary rescues SpongeBob and chases Puffy Fluffy away. SpongeBob does try to call Puffy Fluffy back by saying that they could work things out but realizes the effort is meaningless. He apologizes to Gary for not listening to him and states that this was just so Gary wouldn't be lonely, which leads to Gary purring, accepting the apology. However, even though SpongeBob now knows that Gary can take care of himself, he still takes Gary to the Krusty Krab just until Puffy Fluffy is confirmed to be captured by animal control. Gary understands then the episode ends as normal with an additional line of SpongeBob telling Mr. Krabs that he'll explain everything later. Let me know what you think of these rewrites below.
this comment is so good that it makes those already bad episodes look even worse. you didnt make any mindblowing changes yet u gave those episodes a sense of closure and got rid of inconcistencies, something the writers could have easily done with more time and care.
No you see. The worse episodes were Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful/A Pal for Gary Squidward constantly getting in trouble from a dick cop, and Gary being blamed for being fearful and even saving SpongeBob really pissed me off and began a turning point in watching the show.
How do these things make the episodes bad? Gary wasn't even blamed for anything; it was a parody of the pet owner thinking the OG pet is being mean to the old pet.

I don't get why people think the episode was bad. Gary didn't get the girl, no, but it was a good lesson in the end because he made friends with the boys. It's like "Whale Watching".
In “a pal for Gary” SpongeBob was such a prick and annoying. That’s how SpongeBob usually acts in the newer episodes. But I’m not going to lie, the fight between Gary vs Puffy Fluffy was really intense. It had me on edge.
This is why I agree with other OG Spongebob Fans that anything after season 4 is non-canonical. The reason why is obvious when the writers begin to trade in fundamental traits of characters for cheap laughs. What we get now are shells of what these characters used to be like, and the plot driving for the cheap laughs have massive logical inconsistencies. One thing is a plot hole and covering it up with humor, which Spongebob has done before, but it was done in good taste. Now we have Spongebob being unlikeable because he's annoying and deluded, which is not his original personality. Patrick being braindead all the time and then suddenly socially or emotionally inept. Squidward doing outlandish things solely for vain reasons and he's originally logical or a pseudo-intellect but has no logic now. Mr. Krabs being mature is now super immature and irresponsible. And plankton is an evil and determined mastermind who just does random stuff, I guess, and he's funny now. Everthing is plot driven that not even the funny parts that the characters have been sacrificed for are funny, just shock humor, and that's it. Spongebob lost it's charm a decade or more ago, and I was hoping it would have a revival but watching the recent friendaversary episode... nah.
friendaversary (season 13) is pretty bad but there are many episodes in season 8-10 that are pretty good. No, its not the same show; but its not terrible.
i really enjoyed the slide whistle episode, i think the point is about how easily it is for some people to grow mad with power, and in the end squidward getting what he deserves for his abuse of this power.
The episode with the wringer shows exactly how people pleasers get treated once they snap at someone who's done them wrong, how awfully they get treated for literally just standing up for themselves, causing them to become bigger people pleasers. My experience.

@@maravreloadedPretty sure the writers have made it so that SpongeBob can never get his license, like how Plankton can never get the formula.
Even if he realistically could just drive with a blindfold on, that logic is sacrificed for “comedy”.
SpongeBob: "I will never betray the krusty krab"
"Even if they betrayed you for a nickel?"
I’m surprised! why didn’t spongebob go full fnaf William afton purple guy by this point?
A thing that annoyed is me how much they infantillised and dumbed down spongebob. In early seasons he may have been silly and stupid at times but he was still competent
Yeah I noticed that too. In old episodes he could actually be pretty smart and caring even though he was goofy and childish. In the new seasons they really highlight the stupid and childish behaviour.
After the creator passed away it was never the same, episodes began to be disgusting and made no sense and then go spin offs? Like wtf “Kamp Koral” and “The Patrick Show” don’t even make any sense. I know it’s dumb to go on a rant about it but I grew up on the best eps of SpongeBob so it’s sad to see it’s downfall
But this is not the case and Squidward is shown enjoying the nice day and ending the episode by saying, "who knew being sick felt so good."
But instead of saying that crying solves all problems, have SpongeBob say, "I guess crying can solve SOME problems after all." Then SpongeBob and Patrick both end up stuck in the wringer and Patrick, wanting to know if Sandy's solvent works as well as crying says, "If you want to see if Sandy's salt-vent works, the glue's in my back pocket"
7. Growth Spout - Honestly, nothing should be changed here. I think the episode was fine and was the only reason why Stuck in the Wringer wasn't any lower
Enough said
4. One Coarse Meal - I've heard that this episode should be about Pearl taking over the Krusty Krab while Mr. Krabs is at the Penny Pincher's convention and Plankton work on facing his fear of whales to get the formula
Now that's what I call recycling

Exactly how we feel about A Pal For Gary.
Spongebob lost it's charm a decade or more ago, and I was hoping it would have a revival but watching the recent friendaversary episode... nah.

these videos are fun to watch
yo i can’t tell you how much i appreciate that, i definitely will dude
The trash one just makes me just feel bad for squidward as he get tickets for stuff he didn't even do
19:44 fun fact: someone made a creepy pasta about an alternate ending where SpongeBob doesn’t get to save plankton, and he well, Y’know.
What is the creepypasta called?
@@BlackthespRUNkian plankton gets served.
11:30
The splinter ep is the reason I've never ever had a splinter injury in my 21 years of life
25:51 I wouldn't say their rivalry is based in music, but more like in arts or luxury's.
Remember Squilliam's Return or House Fancy (also known as the most overhated episode for a 4 seconds scene. Gruesome yes but less than 5 seconds long. Grow up.)
"Why do you keep moving it???"
Straight to the point. Love it. The intro, the editing, the voiceover, the thumbnail! The're all so CLEAN
thank you so much shuffle :D
Personally the splinter episode was hilarious to me, when patrick hammered the splinter in, rubbed garbage on it, and left, i died laughing
6:34 What do you mean "it's either he's really stupid or?" That's definitely it. Patrick is the biggest brain rot in the history of cartoons. PLEASE DON'T COME FOR ME😭
Patrick has been proven to be a bad friend so many times 😭
Tbf, the pearl episode is just a representation of having a period ngl. Idk with the amount exaggeration but it looks she was going through it and I love how her dad was there for her.
my thoughts on how spongebob was oblivious to puffy fluffy being dangerous to gary? he was brainwashed by his adorableness. so much so that he was oblivious to the fact that puffy fluffy becoming a rampaging monster and scolding gary for being a genuine victim of puffy fluffy's horrific nature
Ngl I've had this thought and people take it way too seriously anyway. It was clearly supposed to be the joke.
I feel like the very last one could’ve been fixed if they just changed the ending to SpongeBob, seeing what is happening and apologizing for his actions
The fact that Mr Krans is genuinely showing care for his daughter and not just being money hungry in the growth spout episode is honestly just so sweet. We hadn’t seen him do that in a while.
pal for fun and stuck in the ringer are two of the anger inducing episodes i've ever seen on television
I’ll never understand how this show went from being one of the greatest shows to being one of the worst. Like it’s like night and day.
4:45 I find it so funny that in near death experiences SpongeBob suddenly becomes an actual sponge despite that we’ve previously seen SpongeBob has a skeleton and tissue inside his body😭
damn you were a kid when that wringer episode aired? you sir made me feel like a dinosaur
lmaoo i was like 6
23:31 THAT BIKINI BOTTOM OFFICER GOT THAT CAKE-
If he was the main character instead of SpongeBob in stuck in the wringer, we all know what Patrick would do, and the rating would increase
10:37 I didn't know Pearl was Kermit the frog
Ha. That’s pretty funny
19:10 That’s not a hard choice. Mr. Krabs deserved what was coming to him that episode.
I think this is the most chill "worst spongebob episodes" videos I've seen
Actually made me rethink my opinion on some episodes I've been told were the worst thing on the planet for years
13:13 I like the episodes where Squidward gets a bit of the fun.
Not the best example, but this makes "Are You Happy Now?" even worse.
To quote Squidward himself "Why is it whenever I'm having fun it's wrong?"
?
8:44 weirdly enough, this episode seems to convey a deeper message beyond the surface. while emotional displays like crying might offer a short-term escape or exert influence in difficult situations, relying on such tactics fosters a toxic dynamic. over time, the relationship becomes a cycle where genuine emotion loses its power, and manipulation replaces healthy communication. in the end, neither tears nor any form of emotional display can resolve the underlying issues, leaving both parties trapped in a destructive pattern that erodes trust and emotional stability.
7:18 why did I laugh at the fish picking up the money 😭
am I the only one that saw "Squidtits" for the first one? 💀💀💀
I always was like how come SpongeBob couldn’t just rip his arm off then grow another one.
The reason is they had to somehow. Make the episode longer.
