I'd have to agree. I've only recently begun to watch a couple of the most popular plastic surgery channels on this platform with Dr. Linkov's being the third and I quickly found that I much prefer Dr. Linkov's take on plastic surgery procedures. It's not just his empathy but concise layperson's explanation of what's involved balanced with possible outcomes and complications. That's crucial in my eyes because at that point a person's expectations, desires, fears and everything else not necessarily physically related can be addressed. I would feel utterly confident in his hands.
To play devil's advocate for Dr. Diamond...the Try Guys asked him just to go all out and suggest all possible work that could be done...on a normal consultation, he probably doesnt do all that. Also it was played for entertainment (Keith was trying to get the dr to draw inappropriate things on his face for half the video) so...this is probably not representative of his work.
I know that in Korea the v-line surgery is very popular with both men and women. They want a slim face. When I visited Japan I have so many people compliment my "small face". So maybe that's why Eugene thinks his face is too large. I love his facial structure and it seems like most people also agree that his face is pretty much perfect.
I agree, I think Eugene has very nice facial structure. To add on to what you said, a v-line jaw is part of having a 'small face,' but it's also the ratio of the size of your head/face compared to the size of your body/height. At least that was how it was explained to me while I was living in Korea for 2 years (and I still don't understand exactly what the 'ratio' is supposed to be in order to have a 'small face').
Them saying you have a small face is basically saying you have a nicely proportionate face. Americans like small faces too, it’s just not referred to that here. Every single celebrity that is considered a beauty in the West has a small face.
@@zhenyucai8688 i think it's more that that the body is small, I have really small bodied friends (I live in SEA) and that makes their heads look large but it's not big compared to mine
@@Flawlesslmperfection I think wanting a "small face" is so strange! (1) every doll or barbie has a very big face and head (2) a small face - photoshopped obviously - makes a small girl suddenly look overweight and her body look so fucking big in comparison
I wasn't a fan of the doctor in their video. He seemed to be playing on their insecurities more than necessary even when you account for trying to make an entertaining video. It seemed like he was trying to make a sale and maybe it's because I'm British but I tend to think a doctor should never try and sell you anything. Even a plastic surgeon, one of the few fields in Britain that is mostly private, should only be helping you feel more confident, letting you know the options and helping you to make an informed decision based on their experience.
I remember hearing that Keith is still self conscious about his eyes after what the doctor said years later when he didn’t think of it before, and I think that’s more than proof that the doctor went way too far with the stuff he said
I think the problem is the guys asked for that for the video. And they needed drastic before and afters to make their video work. And the guy who was the most insecure, Dr. Diamond seemed to recognize that and compliment his features. I think it’s really an issue with doing a video like this, especially when your not actually considering surgery.
I got cosmetic surgery when I was 11 because my ears stuck out really bad. I went to my parents and explained that I wanted it and in Canada it's free under a certain age if it's bad enough. Best decision, bullying stopped and my confidence has been great ever since. I feel that if something is very distracting in the face area it can destroy a persons confidence and even life. Just depends on the situation and how bad it is. Highly recommend it for bad cases. I would say it shouldn't be done casually as the surgery sucks and could be dangerous.
They offered to fix both of my friend's kids when they were born- pinning the ears back. She went through bullying her ENTIRE LIFE for her ears, and she TURNED DOWN surgery for both of her daughters saying "she survived" and that she thought they were perfect the way they were. I feel HORRIBLE to this day, because both of her girls.... Are very VERY unattractive as thier ears stick straight out like a monkey. I feel so so bad for them. I asked her why she would ever let her children go through all the bullying that she had and she said "but I don't want them to think they aren't perfect the way they were born". Trust me. They can see in the mirror that they aren't perfect. I think they are going to be LIVID once they realize they could have avoided a lifetime of low self esteem, horrible photos, bad haircuts to hide their ears, and bullying. I would NEVER EVER let my child go through that.
@@EvansFamilyLegoProject You're disgusting comparing a childs ears to a monkey and saying they are unattractive because of it?? What the hell, it's not a big deal at all. You can't go around changing everything just because they may be bullied or less conventionally attractive, what a terrible mindset especially to project onto children. If they do grow up being that distressed over having ears they can get it fixed then.
@@EvansFamilyLegoProject You need to consider the implications of performing cirgury on a child. When I was in kindergarten one of the kids I knew *died* from complications while having her ears cirurgically fixed. I was 5yo and I still remember to this day the moment our teacher told us she had passed. Every cirgury has risks, and for a child those risks can be higher. Cirgury isn't a risk free no-brainer solution, it should take some consideration, and calling a child "unattractive" just because of their years is contributing to the problem and the bullying they get.
So...when I was a teen (around 14-15 I'd say), I went to see this ENT doctor because I couldn't breathe properly through my nose. He said I needed a Turbinate Reduction, which was a horrible experience, but I went through with it. Long story short, it did not help at all, not even 1%. I went back to check in with the doctor and he said that I ACTUALLY need a septoplasty and since he's doing it he wants to "fix" the way my nose looks as well, because it's not "upturned enough". I was absolutely furious. I've always loved my nose. I think it has a nice shape that suits my face. I walked straight out of his office. It's horrible when someone tells you what you need to change about you to look pretty....especially when you don't ask for it.
The Asian guy is actually very good looking by American standard, like top 5%, maybe in Korea they want a boy band feminine look but he’s almost perfect.
@@edwardhisse2687 it’s pretty common in the eastern Asian community tbh, with my Japanese family side they often push me into japanese standards, I didn’t even realize it until I was older 🤷♀️ he definitely went through the same. Commenting that often his sisters had it harder than he did when it came to Korean beauty standards
Urm Eugene has mentioned multiple times that his low confidence about his appearance is also due to how he was bullied for his looks IN America. For a long time now, Americans have been shaming Asian males. It’s only been pretty recent that america has become more open minded towards Asians in general. Those Asian boys that tend to have more prettier faces usually faced the worst of it when they came to the west, being ridiculed by westerners saying they don’t look “masculine” enough. They could not meet American standards which always leaned towards men having to look more masculine. Now because of kpop, there are more westerners who like that sort of “pretty boy” look. No matter how you look, there will be critics and compliments based on where you are and based on what their beauty standards are.
Let’s be honest here. Beauty standards have evolved, but to this day. Asian men are still considered bottom of the totem poll as far as desirable. Western standards have always made Asian males the punchline/joke of the bunch
He's actually a bit of a pretty boy, but his attitude is dorky (Not in a bad way, though his confidence growth has been amazing to watch over the years) and his new yoga fitness regimen this past year is definitely paying off.
He’s stated that he used to get bullied for his looks, so I’m sure that’s where it comes from. It sucks that he has those thoughts because of some mean people, instead of understanding that he’s already so gorgeous :)
Yeah Asian parents are harsh as hell. I have a round button nose and my mom used to pinch it when I was 11 and tell me this is how she thinks it should be. I’m lucky cause I love my face so I’d never choose to get cosmetic procedures done, just not my thing and doesn’t feel necessary but I could’ve have that state of mind if I took my mum seriously :\ she still calls me beautiful all the time but my mom is definitely opposite, pro-surgery all the way, even though I think she’s flawless
@Fedoras And Butterflies Their beauty standards are extremely westernised. Even Eugene, who's probably maxed out in the looks department, doesn't match up to the standards Koreans associate with beauty. It's really odd and kind of unsettling.
I would love to see you go into the history of plastic surgery in Korea and their obsession with it. It's basically seen like getting braces here in the US, so I'm really curious.
Some of it is a little colonial in origin. I believe the most common procedure is double eyelid surgery which is changing the eyelid so that eye has a more “western” appearance.
@@joaquinbanuelos6046 I can’t speak for Koreans, but as a Chinese American whose community also likes double eyelids, it’s not about looking more “western”. It’s about rounder, cuter eyes.
I actually saw Dr Diamond for marionette lines and shot out all these things he said I should do which had absolutely nothing to do with what I saw him for, like jaw implants and such. The estimate for everything he thought I should do was in excess of $120,000. Needless to say I had nothing done by him. He has done many celebrities but I didn't want someone else's face.
I'm Korean American but I do live in South Korea. There is pressure for me to get plastic surgery but even though I would LOVE to fit better into beauty standards, I still think I look cute lol. My face is really round while my nose and lips are a bit too small for all the space I have on my face. But I still think I look cute!
I bet you're gorgeous. Once you're happy that's what matters. And in my personal opinion it's our differences that make us beautiful, I love people with wonky teeth and big noses and those are both apparently unattractive to other people?
Don’t feel pressured to get plastic surgery! Only if something really bothers you! Beauty standards are unrealistic and even perfect looking idols are critized. You can never make society happy about your looks, only yourself. And you are the person who should matter the most. 🥰 I believe you look cute tho, because we are usually our worst critics.
When Zach choked up a bit saying he's never seen a perfected face next to his and felt like maybe he was 'letting the world down' by not being that hotter perfected version of himself- man that really hit me hard. It's such a normal feeling for me, such a contant in my life that I literally forgot some people have never felt that way.. that there was a time I didn't feel that way either. I wanted to hug him and tell him that he's beautiful just the way he is and that he doesn't owe the world shit... funny how I can't tell myself that and believe it 🙃
As a man, I got 2 surgeries (rhinoplasty and hair implant). They both showed me photoshopped pics before surgery. But real results are always much better. For example, after fixing my nose, girls started to tell me my eyes are looking perfect. My entire head-characteristic changed. I witness my friends had the same exprience with me, when they had operation. thanks for the info doc, I am big fan of your work!
I never understood plastic surgery, but now that I'm almost 40 I'm understanding why ppl get nips and tucks as they age... I used to be a model when I was young and I can see my looks changing. I've made peace with it. Comfortable in my own skin, but understand how others might lose themselves when they look in the mirror and no longer see themselves anymore once their face begins to change.
Imagine being a model, couldn’t be me. Seriously though, If you were a model I'm sure you look great. Ageing is normal, I'm glad you made peace with It
I didn't like my look when I was in teen~20s, but in my 40s now I like myself and looks way more than before lol For now, I can see how I was looking good back then but I couldn't see.. now Im fatter and older but I like myself more.. I hope I knew earlier
I am in a very similar boat as Eugene. Growing up I was definitely the dark ugly friend with big lips and a black booty. It's so strange to see other people's perceptions of you change so drastically with the change in beauty standards, and the way I learned to see myself formed so early that I can't change as easily with it.
@@welshie2007 Standards of beauty has also vastly changed in the last 20 years, the fuller body is finally coming more into fashion compared to when I was a kid
This video was very respectful and refreshing and I'm happy that there are doctors like you who wont just jump to do tens of thousands of dollars of work on someone's face just because. The doctor that they saw in the video seemed to really want to do unnecessary procedures. If I were looking for plastic surgery, I'd definitely go to you!!
These guys are comedians because they understand the human condition. If they hadn't been ridiculed as kids for their looks they might not have the empathy to understand humor today. Keep the lazy eye, the weak chin. You're lovable and funny as you are.
I was convinced Eugene had some kind of body dysmorphia. Everyone is insecure about something but he can not believe he has all this things "wrong" with his face.
This is a bit late but in Korea, plastic surgery being common was answered by your own statement at 5 minutes. You should be focusing on what bothers the patient. Doctors there however don't do that. They instead tell the patient everything that could be fixed. There are a lot of reasons for it but 2 specific ones that I know of... 1. More procedures = more money 2. If a doctor does a great job and makes someone as perfect as they can get, they will now be sought after by everyone through references and pictures
In my country, we don't find docs who would do that but I was actually hoping to find one who could tell me what to do to enhance my looks as I may not be aware of all the procedures available. I thought about downloading an app that will tell me what I should get done but decided against it as I was afraid that it might give unrealistic image as photoshop is discussed here
I've always wondered if plastic surgeons can notice if a patient has BDD while doing consultations, and how they'd handle it if they do have suspicions.
@@drgarylinkov I saw some studies about eye tracking in patients with BDD, where BDD patients consistently showed disorganized eye movement over their faces. it would be interesting if it became a standard test during consultations since it's hard to diagnose even in a psychiatric setting.
I FOUND MYSELF APPRECIATING YOU EVEN MORE THAN I ALREADY DO DR. LINKOV, and with that same intensity, found myself feeling anger burn in me listening to that self-inflated other surgeon who effortlessly helped make those very nice looking young men feel inadequate or even ugly. The surgeon used some very childish negative words (far from professional) to describe features and I wish people wouldn't support him in his practice. As a teenager, I went to a plastic surgeon to have warts removed from the back of my hands and he incredibly asked me if I ever considered having my "puppet-mouth" fixed. WHAT?! I'm now in my mid 60s and have since had 2 lower facelifts. In all my years since that visit, I can't look at myself without seeing a "puppet-mouth" even though I had never even been aware of such a thing prior. And who has a "puppet-mouth" in their teens?! It's easy to label people's features with thoughtless and ridiculous labels, and grievously those comments stick with us --- most times robbing us of fully appreciating all the great things about us we do have. It takes a lot of work to erase words put over us, especially when those words have come from someone you would normally look up to. I find you Dr. Linkov, extremely meticulous in how you express things while sharing great insight. You have sensitivity and are shown to highly respect those who come to you. You're absolutely, wonderful!
out of all the plastic surgeons ive watched here on youtube, i think you're the most realistic (AND KIND). The funny thing is you always try to challenge beauty standards and try to instill a kind of thinking where everyone is beautiful almost as if youre making us feel like we dont need anything done to our faces - which i think is something that you would not benefit from as a plastic surgeon haha
My face has changed so much each year after 20. I’m 23 and look wildly different than even last year. I’m happy I didn’t act on my desire to get work done earlier.
@@tangerinemelon1578 i mean everything has adjusted lol stronger jaw i think, eye shape a bit, my cheeks aren’t as fluffy I guess. I just generally look different
@@tangerinemelon1578 just voicing my support here, I am nearly 23 now & feel radically better about my face now than at 19. I think I've gotten better looking & grown into my features way more over the last few years but especially between 20 & 22. It's wild. I used to really want a nose job & was interested in filler and I'm glad I didn't touch anything.
4:52 is so important. I would visit you if I was considering plastic surgery as I wouldn't want to be overwhelmed with being told there are so many other parts of my face that need "fixing." It should just be about addressing a person's perceived issue, not instilling more doubt and self-consciousness.
My little bit of filler under my eye to rid eye bags and little filler in my lip to even then out because I was mauled by a dog as a child has made me more confident and that improved my work and actually my life in general as silly as that may seem to people! It’s the best money I have spent
I did liposuction to my arms with a fat transplant to my tumor area near my eyebrows. People were starting to ask what happened, thinking I was punched bc of the slight shadow bc I was in my 20s. I have also always had flabbier arms for some reason that I didn’t like. To me, one looks slightly bigger than the other but I wasn’t searching for perfection anything is an improvement. Fat grafting will last you years! 🤍
"You better moisturize boy" got me..got me good. Keith is great. And did you know, since it seems you're a fellow triceratops yourself, the doctor telling Keith he looked like a bullfrog hasn't erased from his mind. Bless his heart. He's a beautiful man I hope he knows that. Do you think that's an issue with that doctor specifically? No disrespect to that doctor of course.
A lot of people in Korea still subscribe to physiognomy to a degree, but honestly the main issue is that getting a job can be difficult since photos are required for a job application and suddenly that first impression matters, even just to get an interview. Additionally, because cosmetic procedures have become so common, after a certain point it became pretty normal. Some people will even pop in for a filler appointment during their lunch break.
I used to get teased a lot for my ears as a kid. I was so self conscious about them I would cover them with a headband or my hair and never wear my hair back. I'm glad I did not get surgery on them. Yes your ears are developed, but your head/face still changes, as I got older my ears looked more in proportion so I'm glad I didn't change them! Now I will happily show them off LOL
I had two dog ears. Or two that stuck out. One grew normal and is straight to the side and the other is half dog ear and bigger still.... Very noticable at times and I'm really conscious about it.
When I was in school they used to always tell my lips r too big and it looks like I'm always pouting and that it just looks weird and shiz but now iont even bother with anything anyone says 🗿
@@UFO339 Funny how it sometimes it comes full circle. You were unfairly made fun of for having big lips now LOTS of people have having fillers and surgery to make their lips look bigger.
I do this sort of thing with retouching and people almost always hate the after picture even though it's more harmonious. After they look at long enough then they like the picture and they don't like how they look. Lol
i’ve been binge watching your videos for the past 3 days and i have to say it did wonders to my self esteem realizing my face and all the issues i have with it turned out to be completely normal and not deformities at all. thank you doctor :)
I have marcus gunn syndrome so I have ptosis on one eye and it winks when I open my mouth. a doctor tried convincing my parents to give me a cosmetic surgery on my eye when I was a baby and I'm so glad they said no. I love having a unique eye and also surgery sounds painful and I would like to avoid it at all costs 😂 I still get stares and questions every time I go out and eat something.
I would be interesting to understand if those with black, and brown skin would be suitable candidates for the various types of plastic surgeries you show in your videos. This relates to keloid formation, pigmentation and cultural/ethic issues that (nose shape for instance) arise with darker skin individuals. Thank You
Hey Dr. Linkov! By this video's end, I really felt like I hung out with you in the same room AND had fun because you work from your heart. Your sincerity is so grounding. What's more, you are the essence of what people in your field should aspire to. I just discovered you today and this is only the second vid of yours that I had watched. I did see the Try Guys vid months ago and it stuck with me, and not necessarily favorably. Well, you seemed to articulate most of the thoughts I was having then here in your review of it. Thank you for the quality work!
I've watched this video before (the Try Guys one) but now that I'm looking at it with your perspective I'm a little worried that that dr is power tripping.
you are so knowledgeable, and seem so poised and realistic for your age that youd be the first doctor id choose for surgery if i were in NYC and wanted to get sth done. Do you meditate? you sound very wise. And i ive read about what you say, too perfect a symmetry makes faces look almost unhuman and the eye doesnt consider that really beautiful, but it does if its a little asymmetric but proportioned instead! Keep it up, you look so handsome, too!
I bit into my lip real hard, I left the tissue back on. However, I went to see a plastic surgeon in the area and he cut off way too much causing my lip to crease and look irregular now anytime I speak or resting face. I'm looking forward to reaching it out see what you can do, thank you.
From the age of 10 I was making lists detailing all the cosmetic surgery I believed I “needed.” Now, I’m 25 and I have a job that almost entirely revolves around my looks and figure. I always have to look like somebody that’s worth (eek) a large sum of money, and it’s a real onus. I’m naturally somebody to look after my appearance, but sometimes my career takes it to another level and it becomes painful. I’m agonizingly aware of my “flaws”: Slightly crooked and larger nose+deviated septum, slightly recessed chin, fuller cheeks… I try to comfort myself by also noticing my good features, like my eyes and my cheekbones etc. But still, I feel like I’m constantly obsessing. Your videos have really been helping me achieve a healthier perspective. I still intend on improving the parts of my appearance that I’m not fond of, but I no longer believe that I need to do some insane overhaul. It’s terrible to think about how hard on myself I’ve always been. Thank you for being so empathetic when it comes to the subjects of your videos, you’ve really improved my mindset :)
Im a female in my 20s who has had those balding peaks that men get my whole life. They have always been the same and never gotten worse but they were quite bald so I really didnt like them. I was seriously considering getting a hair transplant but then I tried minoxidil. It has worked WONDERS! I know that it doesn't work for everybody but it did for me. So I just want to throw that out there to all the people being selfconsious over some balding. Try it! It was not very expensive if you dont buy the name-brand, around 35 euros for 4-5 months use :)
I saw a show that filmed 2 people in a waiting room, they chatted and then were, separately, questioned about the person they were Asked about their look, they each had nice things to say, body, face, etc. they were very positive about the other yet each were so upset about how they appeared to others. It was very eye opening as I always feel uncomfortable with meeting someone the first time. They did this experiment with, I think, six different women. I think it was Dove Soap, something they were doing to prove a point, very powerful, I never forgot it.
I love how respectful you are. I'm not even into plastic surgery but you came up randomly and I can't stop watching you. I love the message that you're spreading.
15:00 those ears are so cute though I would love to have them🥺 I also got bullied for my moles and kids called me witch and my father and other relatives said I should have them removed but now I absolutely love them and I am happy I didn’t do anything about them. I think parents shouldn’t make aesthetic decisions as harsh as surgery for their children. Kids are bullies that doesn’t mean I should’ve changed myself because they had to make dumb jokes they didn’t even think more than two seconds about.
idk, id probably go even further and say you shouldnt make those decisions until your early to mid 20s, because it takes time in your maturity for your face to fully mature, i look back to what i looked like when i was 18 now being 21, and i look pretty different, no telling how different ill look when im 25, could look better than i am now
That's so interesting about the Asian guy being called ugly!?! I definitely have a preference as a 44 yrold black woman but tbh I think he is VERY handsome! He makes me rethink what I like😍How you doin???
ive honestly never really wanted anything except an earlobe reduction, which i told someone once and they were like, wtf are you talking about lollll no one has ever said anything to me about my ears but im soo uncomfortable with them :/
My ears stick out, and when I was very young our family doctor suggested otoplasty, a common procedure. My parents said no, and it was absolutely the wrong decision. I've accepted my ears now, but it was miserable growing up, especially as a teen/early 20s. I wouldn't wear a ponytail in front of people until my 30s. Even my parents regretted it. You're right, it can be a healthy choice for parents to make.
This ^ I was bullied for my ears too (they’re not so much large as they are at a weird angle that sticks out) and I hated them forever. Now I’m 29 and I’ve learned to live with them but I’d definitely rather have ears that don’t look huge from the front.
I'm literally VERY asymmetrical. To make you all feel better: i have obvious crooked teeth, a slightly bent nose bridge, a dog ear and no dog ear and one is bigger than the other, no jaw nor chin, rib cage asymmetry, two hallux valgus feet , one worse than the other, i got uneven hip bones, extremely long arms.... And no i don't have a disease or disorder that is that noticable or strange but all these things bother me plus i got bad body acne.... Most of this is for life btw....
Good thing I'm poor, I'd spend all the forturne on fixing my face and then tying tubes and adopting beautiful childred to make sure my horsepig genes never see the light of the day again.
self-love is tough when it comes to appearance. you tend to be your own biggest enemy in that aspect. you don’t have to love your appearance 100% , but i hope it brings you some relief in knowing that you will always be much more critical of your own appearance. we’re very harsh on ourselves as humans. those who see you on the outside won’t perceive you the same way you perceive yourself. there is beauty in all humans , we’re all different.
Eugene may look great, let's not degrade the other try guys. Eugene has heard the same all the time, he just can't take compliments and believe that's said and I don't think he wants to put the other guys down either by this.
I think the symmetrical studies show that people have a preference for asymmetrical faces partially due to the way the photo was taken and partially due to imperfections that were mirrored. For example, if a nose is crooked, it’s going to look worse mirrored. I think that if you were to adjust the features of a photo of a face instead of mirroring so that the features are more symmetrical, you’re going to find people prefer symmetrical faces, especially when the better features are the baseline.
I find your perspective consistently objective. Unlike many professionals in the industry, you are far more reasonable about what your goals are in meeting your patient's goal. I appreciate your genuine goodwill toward people. You avoid promising unrealistic results and I think it makes you credible and trustworthy.
“Whatever you want doc, do it all!” (Not knowing the MD has a house full of H.R. Geiger and Picasso paintings at home that he considers perfect examples of beauty)
Come on now, let's try guys wanted a dramatic video. They don't want the world's most subtle plastic surgery suggestions. The task for the doctor was told "imagine money is no object, correct everything you think you can"
This was an amazing break down of looks & self esteem & perceptions, I love that you've commented on this ... I think all people should see this & think about it, I'm gonna share this w/everyone I know, Thank you & everyone remember, we are *souls* first & foremost & that is not even physical, we all have much to offer *no matter how we look.* To everyone making changes: congrats & remember to enjoy the skin your in, either now or after surgery. ♥️
@@Jwlar right, like he literally said it was specifically white boys bullying him idk how dumb someone has to be to not get that was racially motivated.
He was getting bullied because of racism, them saying 'ugly' was just a round about way of doing it. Eugene isn't ugly, he's just not white, and that's why they don't like the way he looks
From what I've encountered Korea is a very academically competitive society and looks can be a way to distinguish yourself from other equally amazingly qualified applicants going for jobs (particularly as Korean CV's are submitted with your photo for reference) , also south Koreans are very realistic about the existence of "pretty privilege" most of the things I've heard point to surgery being seen as a way to positively affect; the way that people perceive you, treat you and the opportunities you will receive.
It's so sad to hear Eugene is so self conscious. He's absolutely gorgeous looking. I get why he feels insecure, but it's upsetting that he internalized outside pressures and bullying comments so much. The only work you need is in your heart, my man! Love thyself.
I actually did a research paper on the influence of plastic surgery in south korea and its influence on high levels of suicide. I want to say that the “obsession” with plastic surgery was to compete in a very small country. I don’t think people realize how small south korea as a country is in comparison to others, meaning that the chance for jobs, marriage, and other big life opportunities has seemingly more overall pressure and struggle to “stand out” in order to achieve those goals. Through this need to stand out, a beauty standard was eventually created so that you “need” this in order to survive, and that is why it’s so ingrained in their current society. Sorry for geeking out lmao, just some findings I happened to come across. Obviously I can’t speak for every person and their struggles as a whole, just thought it would give a little context for those that are curious :)
I was so lucky with my nose surgery. I broke my nose at 9. Then 40 years later I REALLY broke it. Like in two places. First surgery went ok but the left side collapsed. I was so upset. Doc went in again with a open (he didn't tell me). 6 months out and I LOVE my nose now. First time in 40 years I'm not self conscious.
I laughed so hard when he thought he was getting a full face lift 🤣 and doc says he might have misunderstood the explanation..I feel like that would be me jumping to conclusions and being dead wrong haha
Eugene, you are a very handsome man the way you are. It's a shame you feel there's something wrong. Maybe a therapist would be more helpful than a cosmetic surgeon.
Oh my gosh! I literally just saw Ned’s after picture and was like oh wow nope 👎🏼 But I rewatched it twice and then thought, actually that’s not bad, it actually does like good. I kept watching and he said the same thing!
That Dr Diamond bothers me because he just pushes rigid stereotypical, conventional looks rather than listening to the individuals' personal preferences. Eugene as a Korean and LGBT is talking about wanting a more delicate, androgynous face but the Dr thinks that all men should want a 'strong jaw' so he totally dismisses all his requests. Inversely, Zach has a small jaw that he didn't even mind or mentioned, but the Dr made it sound like it's a defect not to have a so-called "leading man jaw". He just feeds everyone into the same cookie cutter.
Zach mentioned his jaw at the beginning of the video and the dr said repeatedly that you could ask several surgeons about what work Eugene should have done and they’d be split. He kept saying it’s personal preference. That’s not pushing conventional beauty standards
Hiya, will you do a critique on the plastic surgery that Toyah Wilcox had some 17 years back ? ( Diary of a facelift ) I thought it was the best it just took years off her face and she looked gorgeous. I love your vids very informative and enjoyable - thanks 🙋🏼♀️ 🤗 💐 🦩
Personally i was bullied cus of my ears. So i was seriously thinking in high school to change them ( a few years after the bullying ended). But I decided not to do it cus i didnt want to give in to the bullies and also cus i wanted people to see me as myself and not a changed version of myself.
@@natatattful i think it's 2 reasons: they know how bad it can get and most surgeons are quite proud of their skills (kinda I'm the best here), so they don't want to be operated on by a colleague. they also seem very confident /happy with themselves (maybe they learned to accept their flaws when seeing how patients destroy themselves with unnecessary cosmetic surgeries)
Dr. Linkov chose the right profession. His empathy and voice of reason is refreshing in the Hollywood doctor age.
Thanks!!!

Agreed 1000%
Agreed!! He’s nice to listen to.
Have you seen Chrissy Teigen’s new face by this doctor? 🥴

Well I think a lot of gay people are very hard on their looks, where I live anyways
Right?! I'd slap him for that comment but he's too effing gorgeous that I wouldn't. 😂
Well he is indeed unattractive for Korean standard beauty. Only American koreaboo with Asian fetish will find him attractive.
@@bilirubin5877 well, thats's just rude
@@johnDoe-uw2zs I do agree that he is attractive, but ya know there’s a difference between an Asian country and korea
It's because many Asian girls have big heads, you never notice that until you're surrounded by them lol.
This surgeon is so chill. He really emphasizes the importance of nuance. I really enjoy listening to him
I wasn't a fan of the doctor in their video.
I remember hearing that Keith is still self conscious about his eyes after what the doctor said years later when he didn’t think of it before, and I think that’s more than proof that the doctor went way too far with the stuff he said
@@aloecat8187 I definitely agree. The fact it was a doctor that made him feel that way is really sad.
It's also coming from his own personal opinion of what he finds attractive himself.
I think the problem is the guys asked for that for the video. And they needed drastic before and afters to make their video work. And the guy who was the most insecure, Dr. Diamond seemed to recognize that and compliment his features. I think it’s really an issue with doing a video like this, especially when your not actually considering surgery.
@Violet None Of Your Business the doctor would be told to be unreserved for the sake of interesting content
Sometimes I wonder if there is an opposite surgery. I think prominent ears look extremely cute and make the face seem smaller!
@@EvansFamilyLegoProject those are children. you're part of the problem.
It would be interesting if they also got assessments from a South Korean plastic surgeon and compare results

Eugene
Its kinda ironic hes drop dead gorgeous in the western world but he's sticking to standarts of the country he never even lived in.

The after photos of Zach make him look like some guy named Chad who plays lacrosse. Ick.
He's actually a bit of a pretty boy, but his attitude is dorky (Not in a bad way, though his confidence growth has been amazing to watch over the years) and his new yoga fitness regimen this past year is definitely paying off.
Yeah he's a cutie!
Literally have always thought Eugene was gorgeous, like basically perfect physically, shocked that he doesn’t like the way he looks.
Same! Guys would do anything to get his jawline and he wants less jawline? Wow!
Will look into it
Some of it is a little colonial in origin.

Yikes… that sounds unethical
Eugene is so handsome. I don’t think he needs anything done ever.
I'm Korean American but I do live in South Korea. There is pressure for me to get plastic surgery but even though I would LOVE to fit better into beauty standards, I still think I look cute lol. My face is really round while my nose and lips are a bit too small for all the space I have on my face. But I still think I look cute!
Love yourself! That’s what counts.
Pls tell me where you got that pfp 😭
Happy for you!
I’m curious, what introduced you to the idea of getting work done? Was it the looksmaxing community or just personal insecurity?
I never understood plastic surgery, but now that I'm almost 40 I'm understanding why ppl get nips and tucks as they age... I used to be a model when I was young and I can see my looks changing. I've made peace with it. Comfortable in my own skin, but understand how others might lose themselves when they look in the mirror and no longer see themselves anymore once their face begins to change.
Imagine being a model, couldn’t be me. Seriously though, If you were a model I'm sure you look great. Ageing is normal, I'm glad you made peace with It
For every person who ages with confidence it gets easier for younger generations to feel good about their aging too
I didn't like my look when I was in teen~20s, but in my 40s now I like myself and looks way more than before lol For now, I can see how I was looking good back then but I couldn't see.. now Im fatter and older but I like myself more..

1. More procedures = more money
Yes always on the look out. But not always easy to detect or manage.
@@drgarylinkov I saw some studies about eye tracking in patients with BDD, where BDD patients consistently showed disorganized eye movement over their faces. it would be interesting if it became a standard test during consultations since it's hard to diagnose even in a psychiatric setting.

I always have to look like somebody that’s worth (eek) a large sum of money, and it’s a real onus. I’m naturally somebody to look after my appearance, but sometimes my career takes it to another level and it becomes painful. I’m agonizingly aware of my “flaws”: Slightly crooked and larger nose+deviated septum, slightly recessed chin, fuller cheeks…
I try to comfort myself by also noticing my good features, like my eyes and my cheekbones etc.

I love how natural your face looks like, Dr. Like you've had no surgery. I think that's beautiful ! ❤
idk, id probably go even further and say you shouldnt make those decisions until your early to mid 20s, because it takes time in your maturity for your face to fully mature, i look back to what i looked like when i was 18 now being 21, and i look pretty different, no telling how different ill look when im 25, could look better than i am now
That's so interesting about the Asian guy being called ugly!?! I definitely have a preference as a 44 yrold black woman but tbh I think he is VERY handsome! He makes me rethink what I like😍How you doin???
ive honestly never really wanted anything except an earlobe reduction, which i told someone once and they were like, wtf are you talking about lollll no one has ever said anything to me about my ears but im soo uncomfortable with them :/
We all have something about ourselves that bothers us, that’s normal.
They are all so attractive in different ways. They need nothing!
I've had Korean classmates who had work done on their eyes at 13. It's pretty crazy.
That is extreme
I have the same but I think they're cute now lol I did get called Dumbo but whatever
@@shoobamochaSame! It took a long time but I think they're cute now too
I'm literally VERY asymmetrical.
Horses and pigs are both beautiful I bet you're lovely
I think you should rather pay a psychologist
wow this comment was very jarring to read, i hope you fall in love with yourself one day
There's only one you dear
self-love is tough when it comes to appearance. you tend to be your own biggest enemy in that aspect.
you don’t have to love your appearance 100% , but i hope it brings you some relief in knowing that you will always be much more critical of your own appearance. we’re very harsh on ourselves as humans. those who see you on the outside won’t perceive you the same way you perceive yourself.
there is beauty in all humans , we’re all different.
Eugene may look great, let's not degrade the other try guys. Eugene has heard the same all the time, he just can't take compliments and believe that's said and I don't think he wants to put the other guys down either by this.
I feel so bad the Korean guy critiqued his face so much. He's gorgeous and has a great distinct look ♥️
The fact that I got an add for 75% off rhinoplasties in Mexico is ridiculous 😅
Lol sorry about that
Eugene is effing perfect.
I find your perspective consistently objective. Unlike many professionals in the industry, you are far more reasonable about what your goals are in meeting your patient's goal. I appreciate your genuine goodwill toward people. You avoid promising unrealistic results and I think it makes you credible and trustworthy.
Really like your opinions on this, super impartial and caring
Gonna be real, the only difference I liked was when they all got stronger chins. I can't deny I thought that looked really good.
Weak chins aren’t attractive in general, that’s why
Whys this channel so underated ?
“Whatever you want doc, do it all!” (Not knowing the MD has a house full of H.R. Geiger and Picasso paintings at home that he considers perfect examples of beauty)
"hes a good salesman" is a really nice way of saying "he cares more about money than about whats ethical"
WHAT!? Eugene was bullied for being UGLY???? He has a friggin PERFECT face tho! WTF is wrong with people's eyes?!?!🤯🤯🤯
They were most likely just jealous.
And racist😘
He was raised in an area of Texas with no asians, it's easy to work out what they were bullying him for.
Everybody has some asymmetry, but some individuals certainly do.
And sometimes it can make people look better than completely symmetrical
the right side of my face looks like it's melting lmfaoo
I can’t believe this guy still likes and replies after four months lol
When you're talking to a plastic surgeon about potential work and he basically tells you you're perfect then starts showing you his muscles lol.
You give very vivid answer interestingly.
Can you react on scar removal surgeries?
In general or do you have a specific video in mind to react to?
@@drgarylinkov in general
I laughed so hard when he thought he was getting a full face lift 🤣 and doc says he might have misunderstood the explanation..I feel like that would be me jumping to conclusions and being dead wrong haha
Eugene, you are a very handsome man the way you are. It's a shame you feel there's something wrong. Maybe a therapist would be more helpful than a cosmetic surgeon.
fascinating channel! your history of hair loss is especially interesting.
"Oooh Make sure you moisturize, Boy!"
Your advice about accepting yourself is very important, especially coming from a plastic surgeon. Thank you. 💛
I loved this video. I never thought this was something I'd love.
One of the best plastic surgery videos I’ve seen.
Hiya, will you do a critique on the plastic surgery that Toyah Wilcox had some 17 years back ? ( Diary of a facelift ) I thought it was the best it just took years off her face and she looked gorgeous.
I love your vids very informative and enjoyable - thanks

The street with all the plastic surgery in South Korea is called Maul Street
Personally i was bullied cus of my ears. So i was seriously thinking in high school to change them ( a few years after the bullying ended). But I decided not to do it cus i didnt want to give in to the bullies and also cus i wanted people to see me as myself and not a changed version of myself.
it says a lot that most plastic surgeon don't have face surgeries themselves (botox aside) 😅
I have thought about that too. What do you think it means?
@@natatattful i think it's 2 reasons: they know how bad it can get and most surgeons are quite proud of their skills (kinda I'm the best here), so they don't want to be operated on by a colleague. they also seem very confident /happy with themselves (maybe they learned to accept their flaws when seeing how patients destroy themselves with unnecessary cosmetic surgeries)
