This. Whenever I have any medical procedures, or even take some medication I am given information about what could go wrong, why it’s being suggested, what the very rare but worst case scenario risks are, and also the benefits and purpose of each option (even if the option is: take antibiotics for this infection or get sicker and need IV antibiotics! It needs to be explained and a patient needs to choose).
I’m so grateful that it is standard here and the surgeons I have spoken to over the years have basically said they are at risk of legal issues if they don’t explain it and make sure I totally understand.

I feel like his techniques and his attitude is so outdated. The blond girl had really thin lips and instead of opening them and slightly raise them, and actually really adding some fullness to her lips, he basically enhanced the border of a lip and added volume to the area above the lip which made it weird looking and even worse. All this volume in the border and around the lips "closed" the inside of the lips and hid it. Gosh, how much i hate those old fashion injections when they couldn't inject actual lips when they supposedly trying to enhance the lip, the pink part of the lip.

I was positively surprised he mentioned that lines and the lip corner pointing downwards needing to be addressed BEFORE doing lip filler. Of course it's her decision but I really think that first of all, the difference in the result was basically miniscule but second of all, if it was done properly, it wouldn't have made her look more flattering due to the shape with those lines. I think if she had something done to that and a lip lift she could have had a much more satisfying and not really much more invasive result.

Especially after my recent lip lush (very natural tattoo) after the filler has settled down… loving my lips right now and got many compliments. So, I think getting a really trustworthy injector and doing own research is extremely crucial. Overdone lips that look like duck bill or sausages are indeed awful.

It bothers me that they said they don't know what is going to happen and they are nervous. I would expect the doctor to explain what and where and how the procedure would go prior to the procedure. Maybe that's because I work in a (animal) medical field so I am analytical and expect to gain more knowledge before I would feel comfortable making a final decision for or against the procedure.

The doctor needed to manage the patients expectations better. He should’ve explained that it would take at least 2-3 mls over multiple sessions to get the look they were hoping for, if it could ever be achieved.
The lady with the marionettes would’ve benefitted from some cheek enhancement as well, probably would’ve given her a better result on the lips.

my lip injections were an amazing experience, i got juvederm ultra plus and with only 2 injections 1 year apart, my super thin top lip is now larger even though its been 3 years since i had any work done!! not as big as they were but mine are 100% not the same as they were, and i am HAPPY about it!!! Ive been told this is rare with only 2 times, but im lucky haha. In canada they only use the topical numbing cream, im shocked this dude used needles for numbing

Doc…from a patient perspective, using only topical anesthetic still made the procedure EXTREMELY painful. The block injections hurt, but still not nearly as bad as previous lip injections without the block.

Honestly filler has so many more complications than people/doctors let on to. Not only vascular occlusion which seems to be the biggie but also reactions to filler both immediate and post inflammatory. Rare but being that more and more people are getting fillers it wouldn’t be surprising to see it more often. Just be careful out there

A lot who do lip fillers where I live are usually nurses, not so many Doctors , I had lip fillers once and now my lips are back to “themselves” not sure whether to have them again, what helps is hyaluronic acid supplements .
Oh and if you do have them done, what helped me was taking arnica for a few days before having them done, I had not much swelling and bruising , I feel it really helped!

I had a lip lift and didn’t realize that it would only last a year or so, which for $4000 is nuts. But the process removed the four lines that appeared around the mouth as I got older, just from the extra support it provided. The best thing you can do with the face you were born with is to keep it out of the sun throughout your adult life. Working 9 to 5 helps; be careful on the weekends.

Excellent analysis. I agree not acceptable to say there are no risks because of how talented he is (but also we dont know what was said behind the scenes) and also depth too deep, I also inject very superficially but not so shallow so you avoid the Tyndall effect.
Also agree I show them half way through either a mirror so they can assess whether they are liking what they see or not.

I think a lot of the interpersonal aspects of the older doctors behaviour that seem a little off, are due to his age and the time, when he was trained. He seems a little jovial. Nice and friendly, soothing, but also as if he is talking to children or someone not capable of understanding complexities. But he is a completely different generation and doctor-patient-relations were a lot different then. Accessibility and spreading of information and knowledge was much different. So, I think some of that is due to that. Yes an answer like "Not if I do it" sounds a little of for today's standards. Maybe he just wants to calm them, but they are really asking for possible risks and complications and he should inform them. Nowadays, the relationsglhipnideally is more that of a eye-to-eye- partnership where one party, the doctoris the specialist, with expert knowledge aboutnprocedures, but the patient is the expert for their own body and their internal experience. So you have to work together, with the medical expertise of the doctor and the subjective expertise of the patient to ideally create the best helath outcome together. Especially, when it's elective invasive procedures, where it is not primalrily or at all about restauration or conservation of vital functions, but purely a procedure to enhance subjective well-being. You have to inquire withoit judgement first, to learn, what the patients ideas are, to be able to either match them or inform them what is possible if they cant be matched

I used to have anorexia and bulimia plus an opiate addiction ever since the mid 1990’s. I’m blessed with young looks but my teeth are artificial (I’m having dentures). My face would look even better, in my opinion, if I got more volume into my lips. It’s such an uncomplicated procedure and easy fix. So why not? I’m taking good care of myself in other ways such as skincare and diets and I am several years sober now, and it would be one way to treat myself and celebrate my sobriety.
I haven’t done anything else in the ways of plastic surgery.

Unless you have already done it, I think it would be cool if you made a video specifically on how to know whether the plastic surgeon you are thinking of hiring is competent and trustworthy, an maybe even has a sense of truly aesthetically improving a client's features, based on interactions with them (and not their credentials, because as we are increasingly becoming aware, credentials are overrated 😉). I think you might be someone who is in a good position by now to warn people about things to look out for to avoid irreversible damage. I'm pretty sire if Oli London had come to you for his surgeries, he would not look the way he does.

I really appreciated your video Dr. Gary. I’ve had lip filler done from a few different injectors, each one has ‘their’ way of doing filler and they’re all convinced it’s the best way 😂. Although this Dr. had a very old fashioned way of doing filler, too bad he doesn’t keep up with his training.
One way I check an injector is to look at the receptionists and support staff at the clinic. If they’re all sporting sausage lips or duck lips, or have frozen Botox faces with Spock eyebrows I go elsewhere. Although I have had Botox and fillers done in the past by people who looked scary fake and the result was completely natural 😂 I guess they’re just good at giving a client what they want.
I often get a Botox lip flip instead of fillers, as it gives such a nice look to the lips - I hadn’t thought of getting lip lift surgery, but now that I’ve seen your videos I may consider it in the future!! 🥰❤️

I get my lips done 2x a year because my immune system just eats the filler like it’s nothing but I’ve never used numbing creams as my doctor said they don’t really do much and tbh she’s so great that I only feel discomfort as she pierces my lip. Also never had any bruising but my god are they tender for 2 days after. Feels like they aren’t even your own lol. Never get anything done without prior research, doctor explaining everything and being comfortable with the procedure.

I would agree that images that we're shown and exposed to influence how we feel about our body image. I often don't feel beautiful, or even acceptable at times. I'm hoping to get bariatric surgery, not only for the health benefits and the ability to be more active, but also to just feel normal. I feel like an embarrassment to my family often, and I'm tired of that. I know that there's a huge chance that I will need skin removal, some light liposuction, and possibly breast reconstruction later on due to the sagging after weight loss, but it sounds better than staying the way I am currently. Thanks for the videos, they're very informative!

Hobbyist photographer - one of the best investments you can make for improving your photos is in lighting! Getting either a pair of small stand softbox lights that strobe (meaning they pulse a bright amount of light when you depress the shutter button, as opposed to staying the same brightness like a lamp) will give consistent brightness and shadows from day to day. it will also soften your shadows! i've also seen small dental offices use "on camera" lights like a ring light with great results.

Very interesting and informative. A bit like these girls I tried lip filler for the first time about 8 years ago. Quite stupid, in my case, now that I think of it because I have naturally full lips, the shape was ok and the only reason I thought about doing something was that it was a part of myself that I did not have any complex for so just like we´d show legs when happy about the legs (and hide other parts) I thought I´d enhance my lips. First time(2 times) it was ok, nothing changed much, it was natural. Then I changed doctor, and decided to have a treatment right before a wedding. This doctor wasn´t great, and before I´d understood what she´d done, I had an entire ml of very hard HA filler in my lips. Nobody said anything, but I´m sure it was obvious that there was a filler, suddenly I had complex for my mouth. That filler lasted. I finally had it dissolved over 2 years later by a dermatologist I´d seen for something else and who honestly told me that the mouth really didn´t look natural (too big, especially the upper lip, not soft). She used hyaluronidase a few times, and it didn´t really dissolve everything, but she didn´t want to dissolve more before adding a little, discrete new filler. It definitely looked better, however borders and other parts still a bit weird. So now, again 2 years later without having done anything and with the lockdown I´ve started to dissolve it myself (yes I know, I should not do DIY!) little by little. A lot is gone, now it´s hard (for me) to tell though if there´s anything left, or it´s just scartissue issues that I see, so I hope I can see a good doctor to first help me restore (if possible) the skin in the area first, and then maybe help with a little filler to restore my natural shape. I live in Italy, otherwise I´d have come to your clinic! It´s hard to find good doctors here (esthetic medicine, plastic surgeons doing fillers), most scare me off when I see the before and after of lip fillers on their websites or their own faces.

@@mynamo12 Surgiderm, a recognized and approved hyaluron acid filler, however the doctor used the thickest one and a full syringe on already naturally plump lips......so the result was awful for me who likes natural. It´s commonly known now that hyaluron acid fillers might stay in the face even for as long as 10 years. How long it stays depends on injection area, type of filler, lifestyle, individual aspects etc. It´s definitely something to consider.
