    • @triedbuttdied
      @triedbuttdied 2 роки тому +1

      That's the main "physical health consequence" of baldness. UV damage, e.g., skin cancer is significantly more prevalent for people with no/much less hair. Androgenic alopecia also considerably worsens the quality/"thins your skin" (all layers except the galea). I've not found studies on this, but since hair follicles are also involved in healing damaged skin/wound healing, there might be other adverse effects not scientifically investigated/known.

      @@drgarylinkov Not sure where to ask this, but as far as the scientific literature i've read over the last few years indicates, swelling isn't the villain it used to be deemed as for recovery. Seems that despite the relief cold or elevation (from RICE) might give from pain or pressure, more blood flow to the area seems to help the area heal better.
      Would this apply to a hair transplant, too? Seems another important factor in recovery is sleep, so resting slightly more horizontal after a procedure might be conducive to better sleep and more blood juice to the head to nurture and heal the grafts. It's also totally possible the swelling around the head would just induce headaches and pressure to the point they can't sleep at all.
      What's the good Doctor Linkov's take on this.
      Cheers for all the insight,

    Finasteride does not “lower testosterone”, it lowers DHT. The medication actually RAISES systemic testosterone (by about 10-15%) as less of it is being 5 alpha-reduced and converted to DHT.

    • @ordoabchao4202
      @ordoabchao4202 Рік тому +10

      Yes, but DHT is a much more potent androgen than testosterone. So, any effects of higher testosterone would be more than offset by the lower DHT levels. This refers most commonly to sexual side effects and motivation and energy levels.

      @@ordoabchao4202DHT has different effects compared to testosterone. DHT isn’t just some supercharged version of testosterone. So the video being reviewed is just straight up wrong with the testosterone claims, implications or not

    • @ordoabchao4202
      @ordoabchao4202 Рік тому +3

      @jahstinful from what I have read and experienced during the short period when I tried Propecia, I gather that DHT is in fact a (sort of) supercharged version of T. That doesn't mean that it can't have different effects, too.

    • @VG_164
      @VG_164 Рік тому

      @@ordoabchao4202 DHT is very androgenic but it is ONLY effective in the areas it's produced (prostate, skin and hair follicles) as an adult man since the hormone is intracrine in the tissues it's produced rather than endocrine like testosterone. It doesn't matter how adrogenic it is when it can't be used beyond the tissues it's produced. Most other areas in your body deactivates DHT by 3a-HSD and turns it into a very weak androgen called 3α-diol. Saying it's some super charged testosterone is straight up BS. If you replaced all your testosterone with DHT it would be effectively the same as castrating yourself.
      The reason why you can get sexual side effects from finasteride is not because you lower DHT but because you raise testosterone by around 10% when you take it which means you will have a slightly higher conversion of testosterone to estrodiols and for men that are especially sensetive to estrodiols will experience problems with their libido.

    I'm a month since my FUE in Turkey and it's a long road. The biggest struggle first month is the washing of hair with the foam and shampoo, washing hair everyday and not being able to apply a cream just made my scalp feel so dry. I eventually used aloe Vera gel after week 3. The itchiness just stopped like a week ago, the donor area. It wasn't a bad itch but there.
    I didn't leave a feedback for my clinic when though they wanted a video of me while there, I prefer to wait the whole post op than leave a review on the day of the operation.
    They were nice, professional and hopefully 6 months time I'll be able to document my journey too but nothing before. I'm not going to send hopefuls to a clinic just because they were nice on the day of the OP.
    20:28, if Finisteride is to prevent hair loss, and I've had HT of good follicles to transplant area, what's the logic behind using it? It's so depressing to think one would use a tablet for life at a risk of E.D, I'd rather be a bald head with a full hard one than Tarzan with head full of hair and got a floppy snake 🐍.

Xanax or Valium wouldn't help much as I already am prescribe the afore 1mg 3 x daily. Not because I like them, I've been on them for 15 years due to panic attacks and night terrors. I have terrible panic attacks so my Dr and I choose this and I still suffer horrible night terrors. It is unbelievable I get stuck in dreams where I'm being tortured by very evil people. I can't recall if I feel pain but I don't wake until someone hears me scream and shakes me. I'm not quite sure who the people in those dreams terrorizing me are but thinking now likely my last dentist with his evil needles and chair he never warns when he will push me up or down. Yeah I do need general anesthesia and then a needle prior to waking for that pain!

    interesting that early transplant patients like Sinatra, Elton John and myself all had the operation and ended up wearing wigs since eventually the donor sites get exposed as you age and you have no choice. If I had my life to live over I would shave my head in my twenties and save the embarrassment and cost of all this nonsense.

    I have a question about finasteride and minoxidil , At the clinic they told me that the Topical solution that they produce that contains finasteride and minoxidil + other ingredients would be enough treatment without the pills and would also be reduced side effects of the medicine. My question: Is the topical solution as effective as taking the pills? if not do you recommend taking the pills (finasteride and minoxidil) and topical solution at the same time? Also would it be better if I got a pill cutter and micro dose finasteride and minoxidil with the topical solution? what do you think Doc. Also thanks in advance.

    One note about the mentioning of lower testosterone: taking finasteride actually increases testosterone levels in the body, as the testosterone that would be turned into DHT is simply not converted.

    Not sure where to ask this, but as far as the scientific literature i've read over the last few years indicates, swelling isn't the villain it used to be deemed as for recovery.

    • @ScottThePisces

      if you've already been taking it I think just continue, from what I've heard they suggest you don't start before, so that the transplant doctor can judge the donor area better... however taking it before means that you wont need as many grafts as you've stabilised more hair

    • @123Claywalker
      @123Claywalker 2 роки тому +1

      @Dimitri: The continuous intake of Finasteride is very important to protect the transplanted hair from attacks of DHT, and to keep the hair you still have.Using minoxidil on freshly transplanted sites, I would be very careful, would even suspend it for some time. Unfortunately, minoxidil and finasteride have a synergistic effect. The quality of the hair that is affected could decrease.
