You can also just throw the redshift object tag and put a volume material straight on the volume builder. Its a good way of getting previews of how your volume looks. I didn't know about the volume tag and cooking it out as a vdb though! very useful.
@@effectatron I finally figured it out. Thanks for checking in though. I was hoping that redshift had a volume displacement. this displace idea is a good work around. I may have to get Arnold just to do the volume displacer..
Any tips to get animation to not have weird voxel artifacts? I used a displacer w/ noise and animated it @ .25%... Getting weird boxy artifacts. Almost glitchy. Appreciate the tut!
Hi. Thanks for the tutorial. Do you know if its possible to give the cloud a texture?. Using the pyrocluster to make the cloud but instead of a color, I would like to apply a texture. Is it possible?. Thanks.
I'm not sure, I haven't tried. I'd say you might could plug a texture into it, but I'm not sure. One thing you could do that might be neat would be to use an image of that texture on your Light source and it project the color/texture onto the cloud that might get a cool result. But without trying i'm not sure how to plug a texture straight in off the top of my head.
For some reason I can't get this to look right. The cloud looks too dense, almost solid. Definitely not as as fluffy as in the video. I also need to crack the contribution scale of the lights up to 1, if I have it as small as in the video the cloud is completely dark as if the contribution was 0. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I tried different voxel sizes, but it seems I can't get the density right?
Sorry I’m just now seeing this comment. My bad. Were you able to get it working? It might be a scale thing with our overall scene my scene was in cm. Diff scales might need dif values. Not sure. But yea always set light contribution values to 1 and adjust the materials instead of individual lights. Make sure u have some scatter and that your obj is in a volume builder
Hi there, nice and very usefull tutorial, anyway, I have a question, where I can find Redshift for c4d R21? I've looked for everywhere but nothing, thanks in advance e keep it up!
You can buy it here www.toolfarm.com/store/cart/referral/referrer/ETRON/url/redshift1 and that link will help me out too :) or you can check out Maxon.com they actually bundle it with R21 as well as Redshift3d.com
@@effectatron thanx great tutor. Btw this works on R20 too. Without tag i exported VDB and import with RS. Got same result. fyi. *edit: just saw the other comment telling its possible. Pls more Redshift tutorials.

yep, same with octane
Good to know!
Redshift is the family of Maxon and to render volumes we need to export import vdb files. Nice integration.
Can we do same with r20 ? don't find volume tag
Thanks, great tut, i didn't no nothing about that.
So informative! Saved me hours. thanks!
tHANK you vvvvveeeeeery match!!
Cool Tutorial! The Volume Tag however didn't do anything as it's only used by ProRender. What you showed should be possible in R20 as well.
Ah ok, I was mistaken. I thought it added the channel information. Thank you, good to know it can be done on R20 as well.
ANyone KNow what happened to the volume tag in later version of c4d? I am using 2023 and dont see it.
You actually don't need it

Try lowering the Voxel size in the volume builder. it will make it take longer to calculate but lowering that should make it less boxey

@@effectatron Thanks. Im going to try that.
May I ask why I don’t have this volume label
You don't actually need it for redshift. :)
Awesome! What are your computer specs for that please?
When I did this tut. I had a 1070 gtx

I'm here live in the chat during the premiere :) say hi!
thanks to everyone who joined the live chat during the premiere. Nice to meet you :)

@@revocolor Did you get the density channel in R20? I din't see in the VDB I exported and then imported.
👍👍👍👍
r23 doesn't have that Volume tag
You don't actually need it for Redshift. See Gareth's post that I pinned above
