In this beginner tutorial I'll show you how to import a .vdb into Cinema 4D Redshift and set everything up so you can render it. I'll be using our brand new VDB Clouds Pack which you can get at the above link.

Excellent tutorial! To the point, clear, logical, and quick.
so helpful thank you, quick and to the point
Thank you very mutch :D
Hope I buy the pack soon.
Thanks. You saved my life. Cool !
brilliant - thank you!
So simple and yet so effective! Thank you very much
WOW! VDB 4 LIFE ! This just changed my entire render game! Thanks so much
Instablaster...
OMG SO USEFUL!
U saved my day!
All you need to start with VDB is here!
thanks for sharing bro
Thanks
dope!
Hello. Where is the 'Redshift volume' menu in Cinema 4d R26.107? I'll be happy if you can help me
can you please do more tutorials on arnold
make tutorial for vray for vdb
thank you!
thank you so much
👌👌👌
Love it dude! is there any way for me to get the cloud to cast a shadow on the scene as well?
I haven't tested it out, but when I get some time I'll see!
@@thepixellab2011 did you get a chance to test it out yet? really curious
My Clouds looks a bit blocky. I made them with X-Particles xpExplosiaFX and cached them.
Do i need to change the vertex size (then caching takes like forever …) or can i smoothen it out somehow after caching? somebody has an idea?
You cannot smooth it later. If you decrease scatter and density to smaller number though the volume comes more transparent and smooth. Of course you loose sharp detailed look then.
This looks interesting. I have read that Arnold renders clouds better than Redshift since it has multi scattering inside the cloud. Is this true? I currently use Redshift and have not tried Arnold yet
Yeah, Arnold seems to handle VDBs the best of any engine. Redshift isn't too bad though, I still can get really nice results, same with Octane.
I've been using vray for quite a while and the rendering times are literally killing me, also tons of missing options I need so I'm thinking of swapping to redshift or octane.
Pros and cons comparison of each video some day? :D
Seems like most people are slowly leaning towards Redshift, after C4D acquired them and because it's more stable than Octane. Learning curve is a bit steeper, but I don't think you could go wrong. It seems to have the brightest future...
Please Help! :( Can't load vdb file.
"Failed to load VDB file. Volume will be empty"
Can you e-mail me, joren@thepixellab.net and I can help you out. Cheers!
How can I scale them? When I increase the size the voxels become too visible
Unfortunately a limitation of VDBs is you can't scale them much, but instead have to scale your scene down or up to match the native VDB size. Then it will retain all the resolution. Try that and let me know if it works!
@@thepixellab2011 In Houdini you can scale the voxels to a higher resolution, not sure if that is possible in Cinema4D
Is it possible to make animated smoke in this way?
They're not animated, but I would think you could go in and add some deformers slowly moving it so it looks like is moving a bit. We're working on an animated smoke pack now though, so keep your eyes open for that
Hey, what pc configuration are you using?
hi, I can't find the contribution scale in the new redshift, help me
same here. 🤷🏻♂
WHERE TO get VDB files, are they free stuff? thanks
We have one free one at thepixellab.net/freebies, but we also have 2 packs that are available for purchase
contribution scale isn't avilable in newer redshift versions
how to fix it ?
I believe in the newer versions it automatically adds the contribution so you don't have to do this step. If that's not right let me know, but I think that's true...
@@thepixellab2011 thank you very much
A problem happened. Failed to load VDB file.Volume will be empty.
Please e-mail me, joren@thepixellab.net and I can help you!
how to use it on corona renderer?
Really sorry mate, but I've never used corona so I can't help you :(
How about VDB in normal renderer?
I don't think you can, but I might be wrong. If anybody knows, post a comment...
r20 and up supports volume
lnformation channel not show up HEEELP
E-mail me, joren@thepixellab.net and I'll help you out!
The density channel is gone :(
E-mail me, joren@thepixellab.net and I can help out
I got no money :(
You can make them in Houdini which is free and also export them as vdb to use in Cinema. It will take you like 20 minutes even if you have never used Houdini before.
