    In this beginner tutorial I'll show you how to import a .vdb into Cinema 4D Redshift and set everything up so you can render it. I'll be using our brand new VDB Clouds Pack which you can get at the above link.

    My Clouds looks a bit blocky. I made them with X-Particles xpExplosiaFX and cached them.
    Do i need to change the vertex size (then caching takes like forever …) or can i smoothen it out somehow after caching? somebody has an idea?

    • @madisepler7059
      @madisepler7059 3 роки тому

      You cannot smooth it later. If you decrease scatter and density to smaller number though the volume comes more transparent and smooth. Of course you loose sharp detailed look then.

  • @andreasoberg2021
    @andreasoberg2021 4 роки тому

    This looks interesting. I have read that Arnold renders clouds better than Redshift since it has multi scattering inside the cloud. Is this true? I currently use Redshift and have not tried Arnold yet

    • @thepixellab2011
      @thepixellab2011  4 роки тому

      Yeah, Arnold seems to handle VDBs the best of any engine. Redshift isn't too bad though, I still can get really nice results, same with Octane.

  • @iesdise
    @iesdise 4 роки тому +1

    I've been using vray for quite a while and the rendering times are literally killing me, also tons of missing options I need so I'm thinking of swapping to redshift or octane.
    Pros and cons comparison of each video some day? :D

    • @thepixellab2011
      @thepixellab2011  4 роки тому +1

      Seems like most people are slowly leaning towards Redshift, after C4D acquired them and because it's more stable than Octane. Learning curve is a bit steeper, but I don't think you could go wrong. It seems to have the brightest future...

    How can I scale them? When I increase the size the voxels become too visible

    • @thepixellab2011
      @thepixellab2011  4 роки тому

      Unfortunately a limitation of VDBs is you can't scale them much, but instead have to scale your scene down or up to match the native VDB size. Then it will retain all the resolution. Try that and let me know if it works!

    • @andreasoberg2021
      @andreasoberg2021 4 роки тому

      @@thepixellab2011 In Houdini you can scale the voxels to a higher resolution, not sure if that is possible in Cinema4D

    Is it possible to make animated smoke in this way?

    • @thepixellab2011
      @thepixellab2011  4 роки тому

      They're not animated, but I would think you could go in and add some deformers slowly moving it so it looks like is moving a bit. We're working on an animated smoke pack now though, so keep your eyes open for that

    contribution scale isn't avilable in newer redshift versions
    how to fix it ?

    • @thepixellab2011
      @thepixellab2011  9 місяців тому +1

      I believe in the newer versions it automatically adds the contribution so you don't have to do this step. If that's not right let me know, but I think that's true...
