Only if I had a reason to. I wouldnt not buy the guitar if it was worth playing. Im a player not a collector though. Although my collection of playing guitars is growing but each guitar serves a specific purpose. Love the videos. Ive learned a lot by watching
That's why you shouldn't update your apps, unless they're totally busted/buggy, at least as far as UA-cam goes. That was my thought... Mounting point for some kind of light or other stage prop thing (one could run a tube through it to spray the audience with stage blood gwar style)
Thanks for giving us an explanation for this one. I'm afraid I would of lost sleep thinking about this one tonight. Thanks again, and have a great day.
No one cares too much about who gets the first comment, but we’ve got to give credit to Austin for putting in all his time and effort for us all editing the videos himself just to review and demo these beautiful guitars
Is that "Oceanburst" or "BrawndoBurst"? It looks like it's got what plants crave...Electrolytes... I heard President Camacho approved it himself for Monday Night Rehabilitation. 👍🏻 🤣
"The Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Guitars",has been notified, and decry this outrage.Obviously, some misguided individual has taken a poor innocent Gibson Les Paul, and turned it into a KAZOO HOLDER.
Still not too much to say about your electrical flying but I will tell you this your kustok playing is 10 times better now only if you can get your electrical playing to get just as good. This is a compliment. Not a diss
I don’t mind it so much. It kind of gives it character. I saw an LP studio in worn brown with an oldschool bottle opener screwed to the body on eBay a few years back. That was pretty cool.
I have this same model and finish. Bought because green is my favorite color and I had never seen a green Les Paul. Good enough guitar but I ended up buying a 2002 Les Paul standard in honeyburst and put some Duncan Antiquities in it. I now have a new #1 Les Paul.
It reminds me of a green guitarist was painted with a pattern roller. I think it was on your channel years ago. Wow wow wow, it was your show. Cool I was typing when it came on screen. Thanx Trogly
I purchased a 2015 Gibson Les Paul studio for 1100, he originally wanted 1300. he replaced the stock pickups to Seymour Duncans (JB and 59 models), bridge, and tailpiece was also replaced. he gave me all the original parts. is that good price as ita my first real guitar or did i over pay?
The seller definitely used a graphics editing program to de-saturate the background wood, pump up the saturation and add contrast. I remember the originals and really liked the look but these changes really devalue the guitar, IMO. The finger grunge and headstock hole would make this guitar a no-go for me.
Austin I doubt you’re going to read this, but do you think it would be a good or bad idea to put a 498t in a chibson? I’ve been thinking about it just for kicks and giggles.
I like the "bullet in the head". It's a cool mod, it indevidualizes it. Everybody else's guitar's look like they did off the line, change it up.Adam Jone's puts a mirror on his headstock, everybody pays through the nose to have one "just like him". I would gladly have bought that beautiful Greenie with the well thought out characterization feature.
I have a 2019 Les Paul Classic in this exact green ocean burst finish - Sweetwater Exclusive (which I think means there are different frets and slightly different pickups?) - Its a beautiful guitar and plays/sounds amazing. :) The knobs include a pull out of phase switch and a pull "open" full force humbucker. Also has the pull out single coil options. Ive never gotten more attention on stage. This guitar is a BEAST!
I was working at Guitar Center in 2017, and the Classics were $1999 then as well if I recall correctly. They were marked down to like $1599 towards the end of the 2017 model year
I hate green as a guitar colour, the only company that comes close to convincing me to buy green, is the PRS double cut, in dark green, that LP Is horrid it looks like a home paint job. Keep safe Austin, love your videos, best on the toob for advice, and your knowledge is scary , fantastic stuff, and always done with great humour.
I actually own one of these - not modified like this one, but I love it. Agree with Trogly that the plastics don't look original (fit is "wrong" for the pickguard). But those speed knobs are the same that came on my guitar. I'm so saddened to see the "hole in the head" ... definitely NOT a feature on my GOB Classic ....
I have one of these and i changed all the plastics out for black, no pickguard, and replaced the tuners with kluson green tulips. Way different vine than the original
Do you think I was like a dumpster find that was rebuilt? Maybe that's why the paint looks odd and all the stuff looks changed? The hole could be a cover up for damage
Hi Trogly - Just discovered your great channel and am having a great time working through the back catalog. Can you tell me what WYRON means though?! Keep up the good work.
I suspect the guitar hole was made for the same reason - someone thought it looked cool to make large holes in themselves and other things for shock value. Well, I did route a monkey grip into my bass for kicks so there's that.
Most of my player guitars i use for shows I've always put fish-hook eyelets on (Never knew those things had a name). But strap-locks are cool in all, carabiners are a solid choice for me; doing alot of bouncing around on stage n whatnot. Also dont really hate the whole hole in the headstock thing, I dig it. This guys living in 2060
The grain thing is almost definitely a camera filter. I took a normal picture of my old Yamaha guitar and looked at it through a filter and that's exactly how it highlighted the grain in the wood. It's not exactly edited, or fake, the grains really there, it's just getting help from the filter. #2cents
The way the pick guard has a gap between it and the bridge pickup... looks horrible! How did that happen? Someone said the hole in the headstock was for an LED. They have stick on LED's !!
Re: hole in the headstock, that's a no from me. There are luthiers who could fill that in and make the repair almost invisible. The price would have to come down to cover the price of the repair. Or you could just hang it from a big nail!
All in all, it certainly was and off the wall mod, but, I think the guy did it pretty well. As long as it didn't cause any damage to the overall constitution of the guitar itself (sound, tuning, body durability, etc.) then I think it is, indeed, ROCKABLE. You'll have to buy it and see.
Off-topic, but I still have that 'Drake & Josh' one from last year's Riff Contest pop into my mind from time to time; Something needs to happen with that! :-)) I love the green Ocean, by the way ;-)
It looks like that hole could be a mounting ring for some special stage equipment like fireworks or laser beams… maybe it belonged to some guitarist from Kiss cover band or something like that.
I have this exact guitar (sans the hole) and no it’s not a real Abr-1 route. It also has a rounded fretboard. I’m gonna be buried with this guitar. It’s amazing. Also the bridge is a 57 classic+
When i was active as a player, i never ever had tought about ‘reducing the trading value’ any of my guitars, when i was customizing it. It was the opposite. The value for me increased, when the volume pot was drilled to the right place, or the tuners had to relocated on the headstock, or the strap button was placed at unconfortable place and had to be relocated. This is a fine example, even the purpose is unclear. This should be a fine guitar.
I think it looks pretty cool definitely wouldn't let someone do it to my Les Paul . If it was heavily discounted I would buy it and think it's cool kind of a conversation piece
I have a Gold Top model of these, put a poker chip on the selector (had to sand down the chip a little to fit well, or my tech did lol), am still thinking about changing the knobs and putting nickel covers over the zebras. I just think gold tops look better with covered pickups. I have a 2020 Classic as well and between the two they really cover all the Les Paul sounds for the most part. the 2017 Ts were a really nice model for that 60s/early 70s sound. Whereas the new classics have more that mid to late seventies modded LP sound. (think Tom Schultz or late 70s Zeppelin).
Francis Rossi had a Hole in the body of some of his Teles. They put a chain through that holes to lock them up. That prevented them from beeing stolen. May be this is something simular.
That green ocean burst belongs on a PRS or Ibanez. Basically super strat realm of top. I have an offset strat from crafter (Korean, seems well built, not sure which Korea) it has a figured something top with flame going one way and the grain going 90• to it, doesn’t look like a veneer to me but it belongs on a fancy les Paul not a strat type
When you mentioned that it could become a signature thing for a big name artist, I immediately thought of the monkey grip on an Ibanez Jem. At least the needless hole in this guitar could serves a practical, if ill-advised, purpose.
I could imagine the hole being a spot to put pyrotechnics or something -- may well explain the roughness to the face and the upper fretboard area as well!
Holy headstock Trogman! Maybe the former owner played in a band called Hole. Or perhaps this instrument was used in some unusual stage trick. You can slide it down a wire or pull it up and make it fly up to heaven, after a stairway tribute. Anyway some guitars that have holes in it are pretty good, I really like Stevie's signiture Gem instrument. But for me a prefer a red stain to the green, that way I could play cannibal corpse tunes. Ocean blood would be a good name for that finish, Gibson are you listening???😀
Theres an Epiphone SG Pierced. It has a few loop "ear rings" in the head stock, and an X carved out of the body, all original from factory. I think it was to go with the Goth series. This reminds me if that in a way
At least it didn’t go through the logo or serial number. Sure it was some kind of a stage prop or something. Doesn’t really matter. The seller got most their money back. Pretty easy to repair. I wouldn’t have paid 1500 for it. But if someone offered it too me at half price, I’d buy it. If the hole didn’t change anything or make it unplayable, I’d just rock it the way it is.
I’ve actually got one of these guitars, minus this guys mods... They are just a really nice guitar BUT since playing the original series guitars I have to say the burstbucker pickups do sound a lot nicer. To my ears at least.
I have one of these and can vouch for them being lovely to play. Even with that hole in the head, if someone got it low then that was a steal as a player

I’m pretty sure that you were right on with the gauge thing. I don’t believe it was to hang the guitar up.
10 hole weight relief.
Damn it, as soon as I heard that I wanted to comment this. Good call.
*improved
Hmmm … Not if the extra hole ring adds weight, surely ?
I was one of the very first employees of Zzounds when it was a small brick and mortar store in Chicago. The owner, Ray, added the second Z to get a dot com domain (zounds.com was taken) and so it would show up last in the phone book.
Ah yes, that short period of time when websites started to matter, and phone books still did matter.
Justin Franks the good ol days.
I love zzounds customer service is great I always wondered about that dang z thanks
Remember so many AAA Aaron’s in phone books and on linkpage sites.
Great!
*Drills hole in $1800 guitar instead of buying $20 stand*
or, hanging $20 wall mount
I think it was to hold his cigar since it was a smokers guitar..
I worked at the store that sold it (the Music Den in Randolph NJ). It was routed out for an LED (according to the seller) for a light show on stage.
I‘d interested to know what the Luthier said when he had to do it.
Interesting. My guess was that it looked like a door peep hole.
The guy should have bought and done that to an Epiphany or something similar
The hole in the headstock is so stupid it circles around and becomes brilliant.
Umm no
No one cares too much about who gets the first comment, but we’ve got to give credit to Austin for putting in all his time and effort for us all editing the videos himself just to review and demo these beautiful guitars
Can't believe people still do the "first" thing all these years later. I was hoping it was a fad that would go away. 😐
AMEN!!!
@Alex Bury yeah I agree, sadly even worse I saw someone hating about Austin’s demos since they “raised” prices since he shows them off..
Don't most people put time and effort into their jobs? I'm pretty sure he makes a decent living at this.
JAMoore yeah he does, I mean he puts time/effort into and from the looks of it he loves his job so idk why people have to be rude to him for that
Holy! that is a beautiful guitar! Also, this is the earliest I've ever been to a trogly video.

I know someone who put a similar hole in a telecaster. He ran a cable and lock through it to prevent it from being stolen from the stage. It worked.

What was the original title?
He did lol but I'm too late to know the original title

I had a Floyd rose put in a burgundy standard back in 89'. Still jams like a pro .
I'm glad I got a Green Ocean Burst LP Classic while they were available!
The Matrix Les Paul. I'm sure someone said it before me but it's what it looks like to me

8:20 It's fabulous how the person doing the demo accessorized it with a matching green bracelet. :)

I'm not into Les Paul's, but this looks like a hole in one!!!
I'll see myself out
It looks like that hole could be a mounting ring for some special stage equipment like fireworks or laser beams… maybe it belonged to some guitarist from Kiss cover band or something like that.
Of all the mods you could make, drilling a hole in the headstock would never have crossed my mind
I have this exact guitar (sans the hole) and no it’s not a real Abr-1 route. It also has a rounded fretboard. I’m gonna be buried with this guitar. It’s amazing. Also the bridge is a 57 classic+

I love my 99 Classic. Worn to hell and still sounds amazing.
When i was active as a player, i never ever had tought about ‘reducing the trading value’ any of my guitars, when i was customizing it. It was the opposite. My first tought is: it’s not a guitar. It’s a guitar built around an engagement ring.
Do a review on the New Heritage H150s aged artisan vs a Gibson standard they are the same price .. like too hear your thoughts??????????????
I think it looks pretty cool definitely wouldn't let someone do it to my Les Paul . If it was heavily discounted I would buy it and think it's cool kind of a conversation piece
This guy didn't use no fancy bike hook to hang up his guitar, just a nail hammered into the wall.
Hey Austin will you ever do a review on the Gretsch Malcom Young Jet?
Also no i would not rock
I never hang my guitars...just felt like it was too much strain on the headstock and neck joint...but hey to each their own!!!!
Yeah, I reckon you got it right, Austin: That hole was part of a budget wall hanger, a.k.a. a nail X-))
Are there professional guitar hangers? Do you think it's a viable profession?
I have a Gold Top model of these, put a poker chip on the selector (had to sand down the chip a little to fit well, or my tech did lol), am still thinking about changing the knobs and putting nickel covers over the zebras. I just think gold tops look better with covered pickups.

Hell yah I'd rock it. Something to stand out with
That hole on the headstock is still a better idea than Gibson's Min-Etune.
Has a THICC neck on it too. If you ever see one in a pawn shop or something it could be a fret dress and pickup swap away from a real player
They did Ibanez and prs copies also.
The offset strat I got has contoured heel joint and 2 point roller bridge.
Trogly did u sell the maverick to play and trade guitars?
Eddie van halen did the eyelets first 😂😂🤘
When you mentioned that it could become a signature thing for a big name artist, I immediately thought of the monkey grip on an Ibanez Jem. At least the needless hole in this guitar could serves a practical, if ill-advised, purpose.
I could imagine the hole being a spot to put pyrotechnics or something -- may well explain the roughness to the face and the upper fretboard area as well!
