Btw if you buy from Dave’s Guitar Shop, ALWAYS ask for a picture in normal lighting. They purposely saturate the crap out of their guitars making them see darker and the flame more pronounced

Really enjoyed that lesson, love how you pick faults out on the guitar, and things that have been replaced, which goes to show, if you don’t know what you are doing, it’s a jungle out there.
If I had $4000 to spend on an acoustic guitar, Gibson would be the last brand I would think of.
Why?
They make some incredible acoustics.
There are 1000 better guitars out there and many by small shop luthiers. A friend of mine has been making them over the past few years.
@@alwaysopen7970 exactly. I'd buy local too, and get a Maton here in Australia. Or maybe even 2 of them for the same price. With the exchange rate $4000 USD = $6300 AUD. With Gibson's shitty quality control, that's some very expensive firewood.

That first Les Paul, with the binding issues, for anyone who is interested, can be fixed easily enough, by anyone who is somewhat skilled with their hands. Take a scrap piece of binding, and use a scraper to get a bunch of shavings, and mix them with acetone in a small jar. Leave it overnight, and you'll have liquid plastic the next day. That can then be used to build up the nibs and fill in gaps, then the rest of the acetone gases off, and leaves the plastic, which can then be sanded and scraped to shape.

Yeah the 1987 SG models with the Klusen style tuners will also fall apart on you lol. That 87 I got from you Austin, the one the guy painted black with the silver stripe? About 2 weeks ago I walked into my guitar room and the cat had been playing with the strap on it and dragged the strap out on to the floor, I wasn't watching where I was going and caught the strap with my foot and pulled the guitar out of the stands and it hit the floor before I could grab it! No damage occurred accept 3 of the tuner backs went flying!! LOL.. I tried to just put them back on bu on two on two of them one of the tabs that holds them in place had snapped off. I am going to put Sperzel locking tuners on that 2016 Les Paul I got from you, so I just used three of the Klusen styles from that on the 87 Sg lol.

Used guitars are still a great value as long and the buyer and seller are both mostly honest about the transaction.
6:05 other than the 2011 melody maker finding a volume pot there on an SG is impossible. 24 fret! Series Parallel a SD Full Shred in a chrome filtertron style cover. Paint it shell pink and I'm done forever.

Speaking of the RD Artist, I just found out that Jimmy Page used one of those in '79 for Misty Mountain Hop, Kinda interesting.
A Gibson rep showed up to that show with that guitar and ask him to play it. The Rd had been a very poor seller for them for the two years prior and they were trying to get a high-profile player to play it on stage at a high-profile gig. What better player and gig than Jimmy Page at the Led Zep comeback gig? In a later interview Jimmy Page said that he "struggled with the electronics". As far as I know he never played that guitar again

Hey Austin - Look up the Def Leppard official video for their song "Let it Go", in that video Steve Clark is playing one of those Gibson double cuts, to be honest it stuck out in my mind because I am so used to seeing him with a Les Paul and also it looked kind of a goofy looking guitar for a "rock star" to be playing lol. Is that one of those 70's DC's you were talking about? The video was shot in the early 80's so I guess it probably would be?

I’d say so. I got a 78 lawsuit Greco pbass copy for 400 bucks mint during the deal. Arguably plays better than even fender custom shop bases.

On that candy apple Explorer, I've bought from Nationwide. Great guitars, but they do not negotiate. You might get lucky with an additional 5% or less....
I know you are not a review channel as such, but with all of the Gibson experience and knowledge you have, I think a lot of people would be interested in your thought on the quality of some of the lower priced options like the Agile 3100, Wolf WLP750T, Harley Benton SC550, etc... I just ordered the Agile and I wish I would have thought to ask, because I would have loved to buy it through your NGD and see it reviewed.

I'm also trying to find any information on a Gibson Les Paul S.M. I came into one for $1500 for a 1980 and I can't find much information on them. I heard they are rare but are they valuable/collectible or have any kind of redeeming value? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

The Les Paul Custom Plus is a 1997 not 1977.... Does that change the value towards a deal or whether it's period correct?
That Sgx is not an sgx. The wine red is in fact and sg1. Sg1’s were in black and wine red. It’s common to find the Sg1’s with sgx truss covers and sgx models with blank truss covers. Great guitars!
My 89-90 les paul with the kluson tuners 10 years ago ended up breaking crappy tuning wheel. Thank god I got one that didn't have the binding issue which I've seen lodes of them with the same problem with the binding

You should try to expand on your guitar trade and knowledge so we can have more variety in your reverb and guitar hunt videos because they’re great but seeing some fender or any other brand would be really nice
They didn't disclose it was a non-original case because the seller wanted to hear you hoot like an owl before you found him out!
I sent that guy selling the RD Artist two emails trying to get him to elaborate on what the deal is with the Moog electronics and he finally came back with a response that led me to believe that they did not work He ended up telling me that I didn't need them anyways
