Keith is the most non-pretentious guy that really explains his gear well with a passion. So far one of my favorite studio tours!
I love the fact that he doesn’t care about constant upgrading. If it works it works!
This guy is the quintessential dexter and this studio is his laboratory. Everything in it is genius from ordinary stuff, and you have no idea how he got it all.
Fav cartoon as a kid
Bogens, Transformerless 57's, The Booger, ugly modded accidental guitars that sound amazing, holding out from upgrades because if it ain't broke don't fix it, Synth as a hobby, OCD and not being able to geek out and talk to your family about gear, this is my favorite studio tour so far. So many good ideas, I need to watch it multiple times. Keith is super cool!
Best one yet, by far. Not really a home studio, either in engineer capabilities or in gear, but at the same time, technically a "home" studio. As a newbie to the whole "elevate your recording at home to another level" hobby, Keith's technical knowledge, to say nothing of the complexity of his signal routing, pretty much blew my mind. I literally had no idea of what he was referring to 75% of the time, other than to recognize some classic hardware he has. There must be literally miles of cable in that place.
This guy here has passion. Strong passion. You can tell.
I love how excited Kieth is to talk about his RAD studio, and to work with CLA for 15 years how fucking cool is that??????????
Great tour as always…..because of this Chanel I now look forward to Mondays!!
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the vids
Watching Keith describe all of this makes me feel like I still have so much to learn.
MAN!!! I am just IN AWE of how organized all of this is. What an amazing amount of thought and care into every signal flow.
Gotta love that snake on snake action 🐍🐍🐍
Keith is the man!
I am from Russia and these videos "on this awesome channel" with a ton of equipment, are very motivating for me, thank you!
Happy to hear that!
@@AndrewMasters have you thought about interviewing Lindsay Ell on her recently built home studio? She’s a up and coming artist, and it’d be interesting to actually see the full thing. She’s a guitar slinger from Alberta, Canada; but she lives mainly in Nashville (where her studio is); to top that, she’s gone on tour with Buddy Guy, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, as well as now she’s going on tour with Blake Shelton. Now she’s even having her own tour, too while opening for Blake Shelton!
What a cool guy. His enthusiasm is palpable. I really enjoyed the tour. Thanks so much :)
One of the increasingly rare species of analogue gurus! enthusiastic, humorous, geek...RESPECT
Love your studio Keith, what's even more cool is how excited your are you show and teach others. You're an amazing human, appreciate you.
i just realize my teenage days music influence are all mixed and mastered by this genius guy... :D
One thing for sure - this gentle man has a lot of equipment
I feel lucky enough to have heard most of these stories and gear explanations in person, working with Keith for the last 5 years! So Glad that you immortalized them in this format!!
His excitement for it, even after 20 years, gets me so excited even though I hardly understood what he was talking about !
Keith oozes so much passion.
I absolutely loved this.
Love this! Keith is the man!
By Far the Most Inspiring, Knowledgable and Interesting Tour So Far.
Happy to hear it!
I wanted to say- Andrew isn’t joking about his consult Zoom calls. Not only has he been super helpful: he will talk about whatever! Seriously some of the best money I’ve spent for studio advice. Im a complete amateur and starting from the beginning. In short- if you’re kicking the idea around go for it. Heck he will talk about coffee the entire time if you want haha !
An Icon? Seriously?
D command
I was wondering what happened to ALL the rack gear and patch bays from the 90s!!! This guy is amazing!! Thanks for sharing!!
The coolest thing in this studio was jabba with the amps, can't believe this dude worked on the whole music scene I love and am influenced by
I think Keith is the biggest gear geek I have ever watched on UA-cam. He is so enthusiastic ✅ 🙂 I want some of that energy 😎
can we have more gear that's desinged like The Booger!?! So refreshing tbh
Keith is the mannnnn !! Loved getting to see him in his element + sharing so much good shit. 🙏🏼 Well done team 😎🖤
Very cool episode with a very cool guy. I love seeing guys that are passionate about getting their geek on! :D And man, he offers his studio B at $100 a day! That's a crazy deal and smart bands in his area would be well off to hire his space often, and establish a relationship at that rate.
Having a bunch of amps ready to go, and not having to move them at all is actually pretty impressive.
I’m just picking my jaw off the floor. Outside of Electrical Audio guys (Albini and Co) I’ve rarely heard such super geek into audio. And I love it. Keep it comin!
Super cool, he is a riot!!
Extraordinary. That is The studio. Great video
This guy is awesome
Thanks for this tour video (one of the best ones for sure), and thank you Keith for taking the time and going so in depth on your outboard efx chain tricks and connectivity. And that credit list though at the beginning. SHHJEEZ!!
I so need to move to Nashville.
this guy = nuts
I love "The Booger," particularly its Frankenstein switch! It emphasizes that having an "original" 1176 or whatever isn't really that important -- it might impress clients, but as far as actually *making music* goes, having something tailored to YOUR needs will give YOU more value. Once you factor in the value of your time, ultimately not going to "save money" with DIY gear; the main reason to DIY, beyond the satisfaction of building something and making it work, is the understanding you gain about electronics and the ability to tweak gear to better suit needs, and not be strictly locked into the manufacturer's vision. (There's a caveat, of course, that making music is psychology just as much as it is physics, so if you get inspiration from looking at the original 1176, there is something to that too...)
What a cool dude. Wanna see more eurorack rigs!
That was great!!! LOVE all the outboard gear!! Hella nice guy also!!!
That control room feels like a spaceship 🚀
love that!
Brilliant!
Woah, fun studio! Kudos to Keith on the great vibe!
This dude makes me not feel guilty about my gear habit
What an awesome guy! Sick studio too..!
What a legend
this guy is a genius...hands down
bro your commitment to making videos is awesome, you deserve a million subs definitely at the least!
I appreciate that!
Why am I enjoying this so much ... My bank account doesn't like me watching stuff like this 🤣
He reminds me of Seth Rogen with a bigger power bill 😂
Awesome 👍🏻
This man is a genius
ye ye ye ye .... ye ye ye ye
Genius!
Amazing
Wow, this was an awesome studio tour. Thanks so much Andrew and Keith. I was wondering if Keith experiences any kind of signal loss/degradation by running such long amplifier speaker cables between heads and cabs?
What a legend! Loved the video
I love seeing engineers like him who remind me in just a monkey with a computer and some cool ideas.
Absolutely awesome setup and a super cool dude!
Simply, BADD ASSS
Another solid upload!
Another first rate tour.....thanks Andrew! 😎
Glad you enjoyed it
This video / studio tour is something extra ordinary / extra epic. I'm so glad I have subscribed to this channel. Andrew gets to places no one else get!! I like Mondays so I can watch new epic studios on this channel. Definitely need to watch this episode few more times. Keep up the good work!!!
Btw, is Keith still working with CLA?
goddamn that's a sick setup
Wow those credentials 😳😳😳
This series is really cool and the studios are so amazingly designed with some of the most incredible gear but I wanna know what’s good w the toyotathon type beat intro music
I was waiting on the part talking about powering his speakers. All was super cool anyways. Cheers
dope
FIRST!
FINALLY!
At work - watch the vid later! :)
The studio is cool. But this guy is amazing.
Love this dude 😎
That studio is amazing. All i have is a Roland VR-09, an Akai LPK25, an M-Audio Keystation49 and a desktop running Acid Pro 10 with Roland Cloud plugins.
Some of the stuff must’ve been over our boy Andrew’s head… I mean really. This guy is a maniac.
You can say that again
NASA🤙🤙🤙
Jabba the Hut, yep, can't be legit if you don't have the Star Wars reference 👍🏼
Awesome tour.
hoping this is the start of an LA run of studios Andrew!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is the fucking most awesome studio i ever seen
Happy to hear it!
That Traynor YBA-1 looks more like a 1969 not a 1979. I worked in A&R and Marketing for the brand for over a decade and knew the founder/designer Peter Traynor personally. I can tell you more about it if he wants to know anything right down to the day it was made (serial number based) and who did the QC.
Your practicality is terrific ! "Everything is more inspiring to me if it is in front of me.... and things need to be plugged in or nearly plugged in, otherwise you might as well not even own it." How it looks..is all perfect - what a freakin' terrific video. I learned a ton from this one - heaven sent from the carpenter and workshop mind to the one-of-a-kind recording environment in a wildest dream. I slowed it to .90 speed - and I'll watch it 50 times - I wish I saw this when I was 13 when I started playing guitar, the instrument that paved so many of our lives! My biggest thank you goes out to you Keith Armstrong + Andrew Masters for this tour. Now could you do one on roller coaster design? P =]..
I'm happy you found so much value in this video. Keith is definitely a wealth of knowledge. Glad you are enjoying the vids!
It’s crazy to see the difference in this guys gear who started 15+ years ago vs the guys who started within the last 5 years or so.
Guy’s
great guy!
You'd know it's a real studio when it doesn't look like one 😅... Big time 🤘🤘🤘
Seismic Audio cables. :)
Samson patchbays. Lfg!
Since I live in India , your videos are my Monday night thing and they're literally my inspiration to make my own studio as a student , btw Keith is soo cool , he just worked on my fav records and well this is the ultimate tour ever
Glad you are enjoying the vids. Good luck with your home studio!
@@AndrewMasters thanks!
I'd argue go SPL Phonitor 2 over the Monotuar. Then you have the matrix/crossfeed. Nice to see the 262 spring reverb and the Ibanez AD...those are two pieces of gear I will never part with. Andrew, did you happen to ask or note what patch cables he uses? That all looked 1/4 right?
Just a note, good electrical designers will utilize the same board with different component populations for different designs/end-products. Just because a board has two names on it, doesn't imply that the final product is the same.
I have no additional information on if these two focusrites are identical, just providing some insight to how accurately you can interpret board markings and internal processes. SSL definitely has utilized the same PCBs for multiple designs/populations in the past.
respect to the man for sure, but this is another level of rabbit hole lol. i thought i knew alot smh
OK, how do you turn everything on? And in what order?
Panicly push all the buttons ;)
i often see vids like this , and i always see the same thing ... i have a pair of ns10s as well ... then i see i have nothing else you guys have in the video .... mmmhph
Wow this guy makes you realize how much you don't know.
can an eventide h9000 replace all the effect units here !?
Top these studios have special "power/electricity" setups? Look like they would use a big amount of power.
you should hit up Corey Coffman from loveland colorado, i wanna see what hes got going on B)
What ever geear you off learn to use well in order to get the best out of it.
DDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMNNNN!!!!!
How did he get the Marshall and the other amp on the top of his rack?
Wow, he worked at so many projects and he is still young… at what age did he started? Six? 😅
Cheers from Florida Andrew...quick question...if I click on your link will all of my items help u out or only those associated with the video? I know I know stupid question...cheers
Clicking the link will give me credit on the entire sale. Thank's for asking. It's not a stupid question; I asked the same one haha.
