    One of if not the best video of a Tacoma mod I’ve seen in four years. Very well done and no questions left unanswered. No wonder your channel is blowing up. Excellent.

    Really clean install. Just a little advice, if you can move that compressor fuse in the engine bay it would be safer. Always better to have the fuse/breaker close to the source. If that power cable gets damaged it will short out and it wont be by the compressor. It’ll be closer to the firewall (prone to cutting and pinching) and because the fuse is by the compressor, that power cable will stay live when the fuse pops and could cause a fire. Also for easier cable routing you can just connect that ground wire with any existing bolts on the floor. 1 wire routed through firewall will leave you more room for future wires. If you can replace that fuse to a breaker as well it’ll make your life easier in the future. Other than that, really good install. 👍

    Very well organized, and you covered most of the important aspects of this installation.
    Two additional points:
    1. The two wires to the fuse panel that were lengthened each have an inline diode (shrink wrapped) which must not be removed when the wires are lengthened.
    2. When the Red wire which goes to the Positive battery terminal is lengthened, the 40 amp inline fuse "should be located as close to the battery connection as possible. ...only lengthen the Red wire on the side of the fuse opposite to the battery." (from the ARB instructions)
    Making the connection this way will mean two splice connections for each wire (assuming you do the Red and Black (note that there are two Black ground wires in the harness), but will eliminate some 6+ feet of the wire harness from under the seat. (Makes more sense if you have the wiring harness in front of your eyes)
    I did ask ARB about using an established chassis ground inside the cab instead of running the ground wires all the way to the battery terminal. They recommend against that due to the high current load of the motor.

  • @bryani.6224
    @bryani.6224 3 роки тому +2

    I think you need to add a inline fuse on the power wire connected to the battery. I know I saw the fuse near the compressor but I think it is recommended to add a fuse less than 12 inches from the positive battery terminal. I could be wrong but you may want to look in to it. I wouldn’t want you to have an electrical fire.

    Nice install. I like to use a Western Union splice because it gives a mechanical strength to the wire splice. Next time you splice several wires try offset the splices from each other. I’ve found they come out beautifully so the wire bundle isn’t quite so bulky. The FAA CFR 43.13-1B section 11-167 has some cool info if you want to geek out over that, and NASA-STD-8739.4A around page 84 or so has some splices. Amazing job shooting the video. I appreciate the detail you go into.

    Just a suggestion...If you disconnect wire connectors, you should mention the required technique needed, as some of those can be tricky, especially so when you can't see what you are doing. I like the hack, may look into it. Also, just an FYI, old school offroaders would use their tubular bumpers to hold air for emergencies. They would add a quick disconnect to the tubing and pressurize for later use...Kind of a cool hack.
    Quick pointer on soldering, clean tip obviously, but add the solder to tip first and you will find that the heat transfer to the wires is almost instantaneous for very quick soldering and less chance of overheating the wire insulation as well.

  • @brucegordon9615
    @brucegordon9615 3 роки тому +1

    Great video.
    I love the way you explain each component and each step in detail. You should consider contacting various accessory manufacturer and do install video's for their products, (for a fee of course).
    A couple of comments on the wiring portion of your install from somebody who has done a whole bunch of stereo and electronics installs, mostly on boats and old cars which have sub-standard wiring brand new.
    Notice that Toyota put plastic ribbed sheathing to protect the factory wiring bundle as it runs under the carpeting.
    You REALLY should do the same as over time the wires can rub thru the sheathing at points where there is sharp edge contact and cause a short. There are superior sheathing options available to the factory plastic ribbed style. Just look on Amazon.
    Second comment has to do with your connection method of twisting the wires together and then soldering. As a few other comments have mentioned, it can be prone to failure down the road. I have utilized several methods that seem to work well over time but the most long term durable appears to me to be the NASA approved method. Check out other UA-cam video's to see how the method works. I have utilized that method exclusively for the last couple of years and is the only method I have found that consistently tests against the same length of unspliced wire for voltage drop. I have yet to see one of this style splice fail.
    As part of the same comment you should stagger your splices rather than have them right next to each other. Manufacturers can make this difficult because they will normally make wiring bundles terminate at the same length. Just nip about 2" from the ends of some so the splices do not lay against each other.
    The third comment would be for you to utilize zip ties every couple of feet so the wires stay bundled where the sheathing is not utilized. They also work real well at the end of the sheathing to keep it well attached to the wiring bundle. Long term zip ties do not come unraveled as electrical tape wrap can do.
    The fourth comment would be for you to twist each wiring pair together rather than simply having it run parallel. Real simple to do. Take your electric drill and clamp the wire ends into the chuck and turn it on low so the wires get twisted together for the entire length.
    Just practical stuff to make a professional quality end product.

    Great idea and great video. Really glad I found your channel cause I fall into the same tacoma demographic you do haha- namely, person who uses the truck as a daily driver but takes it off road recreationally. So many of the channels focus on more "extreme" modifications that are a bit unnecessary (and expensive) for me. Yours are super practical and attainable.

    Great location to hid these. Only problem i see is that these get really hot after airing up 4 tires. Hoses, and compressor. Might melt something under the seat. You will also need a longer hose to reach the other side easily.

    What kind of air line did you use to connect the two brass fitting? @12:38 you mention the airline.

    Amazing video as always! I do have a question for you if you're able to answer. For someone not great with wiring, would this install be a bit out of reach? Also, do you know if this works with power/heated seats? Not sure if there is more stuff in them that fills in that space. Thank you as always!

    • @ChloeKuo
      @ChloeKuo  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I think this install would be doable for anyone, so long as they have the patience and time. Often times when I do an install that I think is a little out of my reach, I have a friend's phone number on hand in case I need to call for some help or some tips.
      In terms of this working with power seats and heated seats, yes this install works! However, I think it only works on the passenger side, not the driver's side.

    • @ChloeKuo
      @ChloeKuo  3 роки тому

      I’d say that biggest pros are easy access and protection from the elements. Cons are that the wiring is more difficult and some people may not like that you have to raise the seat. I think it all comes down to preference 🙂

    Better compressor options are available and made in the US, see the Extreme Outback ExtremeAir Magnum #007-222PKG1, it will outperform this with many of the same features and more at 2.6cfm at 100psi continuous duty and a sealed unit for mounting anywhere. They even have a toolbox kit so it all comes stored in it's own steel toolbox
