It's a really fun game! I normally get sick of city builders because they get harder and harder until you inevitably fail, but this one is paced like a board game. It's a challenge, it's a challenge, and then suddenly, you win! You don't have to continue living with your mistakes for hours until they drag you down.

Or you'll just learn the cookie cutter build order, diplomacy actions to take etc....that doesn't fail and it gets boring. This tries to break that apart and it also has loads of difficulty settings.

Truly the city builder for people who get tired of city builders. I bought this years ago and I can't believe how incredible the developers were the entire early access. The amount of content they added the transparency listening to feedback while maintaining their holy original ideas is something every company should try to mimic. I'm so glad they are seeing success!

I found out about AtS from your video back in early access, and I've loved every second of it since then, even if I've not gotten that far with it. Thank you for introducing me to such a great game I've barely scratched the surface of, and just spotlighting as many games as you do, PotatoMcWhiskey.

I bought this on the strength of the videos you did for it last year. Like way back in early access, pre-foxes, pre-seals. I have not regretted it. I'd never have found it if not for you. I think Pravus said he uploaded his videos because you evangelized it to him as well. So big thanks.

You totally forgot about your huge pickled goods play, that would give +8 resolve to every one of your species. You even backed it with a cornerstone that would give 10 meat jerky for every 10 pickled goods produced, then you never made any. The seal fragments you got as a reward in the end, are used to close increasingly difficult rifts as a boss mission at the end of the cycle.

I end up looking for more players that make AtS videos, because they make them slowly, and not that many people watch them, niche game. Like more than 5 channels i am watching for it. Pravus also do play it. Really enjoy grid play, was surprised that Nilaus didn't build grid, while city block in Factorio is his go to. Also i understand that is it harder to not make mistakes while streaming, i usually play it very slow, to not make many mistakes, triple check everything before pausing. Even then i make mistakes that lose my games 10 viceroy so far, my favorite game till Factorio DLC comes out.

Me, too, bought this game because of you when it released a month or so ago and was 35% off. 35% off again, Potabros, get it now! A bit terrifying to jump into, but like Hades, you lose nothing from failure, and it's quite refreshing to courageously dive in accepting all the unexpected. Learning curve is not bad at all, and seriously, after your first couple runs (about 2 hrs each for me) increase the difficulty! Viceroy by your 5th-8th run is just fine.

Please keep making AtS and OW content. You're Civ 6 content helped save my mental health back during the pandemic and it continues to be the bread and butter of my UA-cam diet, but your AtS and OW content is also wonderfully entertaining.

Hey man, I just want to thank you for your video. I just bought the game. I am not dissapointed :)
I am older gamer and it is clearly visible that devs created the game that they are playing as well like it was done back in the days. It is absolute gem of a game with high replayability.
That said, wish you all the best in new year, stay safe and healthy.

The game looks like it might be a lot fun play, but the learning curve on this thing is nuts!! Like, I could see playing it for 8 hours a day, and it would probably still take a few months to get somewhat comfortable with it. I'd be interested to hear from those who've tried it, how it felt initially and how long did it take to feel like, "ok, I think I get it." 🤔

    • @sethyboy0
      @sethyboy0 8 місяців тому +9

It starts out really simple. A lot of the mechanics don't appear until you move up to higher difficulties but dealing with them gives you more resources at the end. If you stuck on the first couple difficulties you'd have a pretty chill time with it. After you feel ready you can move up.

    • @Kirkrrr

My brother just tried this after I told him I had fun with it for 250hrs so far. He was very indifferent about how it worked haha.

I've got almost 140 hours in this and I'm only level 16 or so and there's stuff I haven't seen yet. This game has incredible value for money and it comes with one of my favorite game soundtracks ever. the problem is that the more blueprints you unlock, more basic blueprints start becoming rarer. meaning you basically have to guess what is going to be the most valuable production building right at the beginning, because if you choose, lets say, a gathering or farm building wrong, there is chance you won't get another pick. thankfully, traders often will be selling some of those basic blueprints.

Hey Potato, just an FYI any species can eat any food but providing fancy food to a species that doesn't gain a buff out of it is (porridge and lizard) is actually worse as it take up man power, time and I think it provides less food overall.
Edit: I was wrong about the "provides less food" bit

  • @Kuddochan

Generally speaking I love RTS and 4X games, but I'm not usually too much into city builders because they tend to feel a bit too sandboxy for me. This one however is an absolute gem, the combination of a city builder and a roguelite is fantastic. It feels like playing Darkest Dungeon except in strategy game format. Part of me finds it a bit repetitive but nevertheless every game is slightly different due to the different biomes, maps, and the random nature of the buffs, hazards, and blueprints
Bought it a week ago just before the Steam Christmas sales ended (was only €20 at the time) and already got 62 hrs in it since lol

If you press escape you can see what resources there are to find when cutting down trees in the pause menu.
45:30 Almost Salvaging the first excavation site hurt my soul, well done catching that.
48:05 I could be wrong but I also think that if you repair the extractor it also works as a Rainwater generator and not ONLY as a blue decoration.
Repairing lost technology usually gives you long-term rewards but is significantly more expensive.
Other than that most things were well thought out and a good representation of the gameplay of this particular biome.
Some biomes play very very differently.

You seem to be some what advanced into the tech tree, do you have the field kitchen? It is amazing for early game food processing, even thou it is the worst in sense of efficiency it still allows you to make more consumption units by turning raw food into processed food. I.e. you could turn 8 meat + some wood into 10 jerky, which in this case give your lizards a resolve bonuse as well and if you only have limited supply of raw food you can always ristrict the raw food consumption to don´t waste it. Another tipp you can extend the pop tab (upper left corner) by clicken on the arrow and favor a race if you got more than one, which gives the favort one +5 resolve and the other -5 and you can use it to gain some easy reputaion through resolve.

For building materials like bricks and planks you put a limit of 15. Which is nothing. I usually have 10 on 0-star recipes, 20 on 1-2 star recipes, and 40 for 3-star recipes. For planks it is ×1.5 so up to 60.
I figured out this numbers for moment when you building shrine, tea doctor or something similar in how it costs, and it will not consume all of your stored materials, stopping entire production chain.
Probably my numbers too big, but at least for planks is better to have about 40 ALWAYS, i think.
Also i put limit of 70 for goods like special food, ale or training gear. And 100 on flour, for no reason.

It makes no sense that tasks like excavation need food. The villagers already require food to live lmao
You could argue that working means they need more calories, but in that case they would just require more food while excavating, not a very specific type of food.

I thought he was making a grid, but oh goodness THAT is NOT a grid. I've been playing since beta and have worked out a whole grid system. (I may have some OCD) Not that I'm telling people how to play, but watching this kind of hurt. I do suggest to make a plan in the beginning of what blueprints you will need to get to satisfy your people and if they come up to pick them even if you don't have the supply chain set up yet. You can backfill later. I also suggest trying to get a good plank recipe as soon as you can as they tend to be the biggest bottleneck. (also you don't want to waste all your logs in the 0 level recipe when you need them for your hearth)

It is best city builder, and you can play city to ''infinity''. You don't have to finish city while you win from resolve, there are button continue game. And you don't lose game if you lose later, because you already reached resolve victory. When i have good runs i am interested to see how far i can play. I have played couple games when i opened every glade, and i had more than 50 people and more than 15 years in. I am excited about building more than 2 cities around forbidden glade food sources. Try it and enjoy.

While I enjoyed the video, there just seems like there is WAY too much going on here for my play tastes. Like simply selecting how you set off and then get to the first settlement...it's overwhelming and not for me.

It is overwhelming for everyone, but when you have played for couple games, you learn things and it is easier.

This isn't a city builder game. It is an interesting twist on deck builder games. As a result, it has the fatal flaw that all deck builder games have, RNG. That is, you can get a couple pieces to a good strategy and then never be given the correct piece to complete the strategy. This is why I don't like deck builder games. This one does a better job of mitigating the risk of bad RNG destroying your build. As such, it is the best deck builder I've seen to date.
The other problem I have with the game is that I got into the game early on. I developed a way I enjoy playing the game. Then the game decided that isn't the way they want you to play the game. The result is that I played the game a good bit in early access, but have become disappointed with the game and haven't played it in months with no plans to pick it up again as any time I think about it, all the negatives of the game pop up again.
As a result, I give it a 4.5 out of 10, which is the best I've felt about any deck builder. If you are someone who enjoys that genre of games, this could be a 7-8 out of 10 for you.
