Very helpful video mate! I have the same skimmer, wall hung. The cup kept filling with water and after consulting the manual, it said too high salinity would cause this. Checked it with a refractometer, sure enough it was 1.026. So I lowered the salinity to 1.024 and that took care of that. I learned also that the gate valves are VERY sensitive to adjustment-Very sensitive. But once set properly, it works wonderfully. Cheers mate!
Don’t cut the tank rim cut the forward part of the skimmer bracket that faces the water. This allows the skimmer to drop. Adding hose does effect skimmer performance.
Ps if you put this on a marineland tank you have to trim 1/4 off the skimmer mounting bracket to get it lower into the water. That plus you must pull on and extend the return piping to lower the sponges. If you don’t extend the return piping you block water flow and adjustment
Another thought get a 5 gallon bucket full of water and do a test. Drop the skimmer to the level it should be at while running . Then while running raise the skimmer and note the internal change in water level. Your sitting too high on the tank. Another option lengthen the pump pipe into the skimmer and by doing so you in essence lower the pump. They know the pump mounting bracket is an issue. It’s not for all tank rims.
After a years time I moved on to an eshops hob skimmer. I got tired of pulling the Pump intake Venturi weekly to clean the salt buildup at the air intake on this skimmer. The eshops hob with the external pump avoids this issue . 😁
I am glad to have found your comment on the Aquatop skimmer as I am contemplating purchasing one for my sumpless reef tank. You said you purchased the Eishopp brand. How satisfied are you with this other skimmer purchase? Also is your aquarium rimless? I need a skimmer for a rimmed tank. You think Eishopp would work?
Hi Joe, I wonder if you could give me some advice? I have just bought this skimmer but the tops of return sponges were out of the water (hob) I considered raising the water level but the tanks middle spar would then be submerged and disrupt wave flow. I decided to use some hosepipe to make extensions to the returns, enough to make sure the holes were underwater, which Paul failed to do in his first video, I opened the return valves fully like he suggested but skim failed to reach cup level. Closing them fully rose it a bit but still not high enough and I also had a leak from the bottom of the riser pipes which I have sealed with super glue gel. Should I start off with the valves fully closed untill the level rises or is my return pipe mod causing issues. Your advise would be greatly appreciated!!
The return tubes extend outward. Pull hard on them until the sponges reach water level. If you don’t extend them you actually block water flow and limit your adjustments.
@@joec2174 Thanks very much for your reply, my tank is a Juwel 240 it has cut outs on the back for wires/ hoses, I may have to do the same at the side where I put the skimmer. I had the sponge tubes fully down but they were still not low enough, rather than hacksaw my tank rim I thought I would use hosepipe to extend the sponge tubes, perhaps this is restricting flow? Watching other videos I see that it takes days for the skim level to raise to the cup. I will experiment and if all else fails I will cut as you suggest. Thanks again....Michael..
All of that and he couldn't tell us which way closes / opens the valves. If the valves open / close in the same direction or away from each other. That's the only reason I needed to watch this video. 🤦🏾♂️

I have the same skimmer... micro bubbles everywhere. Tried everything to get rid of them any suggestions?
run the outlet via Polyfilter
We have this skimmer.. how on earth have you got no microbubblrs
tayne netherwood attach an air pump to the air inlet your skimming will be double
It's a good skimmer, just learn how to use it . The valves and return piping depth are adjustable.

If on a marineland tank you have to cut and trim the skimmer mounting bracket to get it even closer to the water . The mfg knows about this .

hi there,
I have just purchased this skimmer. sorry you may of already gone through this but i cant stop the micro bubbles
is it in the sump or the tank?
@@MajesticAquariumsTV hi mate, its in the tank, its sitting on my 30 gallon display refugium, which has a section at the back for filters etc.
Majestic i need help with this question as well

Pull off the elbow and down the pipe and see if the gate is open or closed
I had this skimmer, it is rubbish, hard to tune, and does not collect much gunk. another cheap and nasty aqua 1 product.
