Got mine for the Aqua One Nano which is almost a clone of the WaterBox 20 gallon Nano, it’s the first day and even “running it in” the 50D skimmer is skimming even with the drain open protein is collecting on the sides of the cup, the skimmer fits ever so snugly in the rear sump if you could call it that, the hole is 76x76mm and the skimmer states it’s 76x76 and yeah it only just fits. The original skimmer that came with the tank was ok but it had a plug and socket happened to be identical to the wave maker plug and with all the cables I made a mistake and well let’s just say the original saw some electrifying moments. Those bubbles with this 50D stopped spewing out the bottom in around 4 hrs, the only problem I see is the rotation of the cup, there is no marker so it will all have to be touch feel look and hope you have it in the same spot when re-inserting it after a clean, so I think I will just use the drain and probably leave the hose fitted in. I certainly don’t want to disturb the base either as it is so snug and rubbing that cable won’t be good for it I’m sure. The manual states every month to clean the impeller, I might try to stretch that out a little. So far this little beauty has been surprisingly fantastic, so I can’t thank you enough for making these two videos as it encouraged me to purchase it even though It took me a while to find it from Australia I’m so glad I did. Again thank you so much for finding this little gem and showing us all the videos, I appreciate it it heaps!
Thanks for the comment. It is my hope that fellow hobbyist will chime in to let others know what they think about the product and any tips to installation, maintenance, and tuning. This is not a plug and play product where you just plug it in and occasionally clean it. There are adjustments to be made and like you said after cleaning it there is no marker to line the outer housing with the inner housing. Salinity changes, water level changes,etc will affect the performance so I have found that I have to monitor it daily to make sure it is running and skimming effectively. I can say that when the skimmer is running well, I will wait until the collection cup is full before I empty/clean it to save on making adjustments. thanks. the light is a $40 coralife from Petco. I'd only recommend it for easy soft corals.
Hello, mine still gives bubbles underneath even after a month. Please help me out. I have tried everything what instruction says. Water level is perfect. Can I sen you a video?. I really need help and tried to reach out the company they are not sending a reply. 😢
yes. mine does the same thing but it is very minimal so that it doesn't affect my soft corals. If you want no bubbles, then you will have to use a skimmer with a bubble trap.
I found if you reduce the airflow a little and increase the water flow up the base of the cup the problem goes away after it’s got a coating on the sides, I had micro air bubbles everywhere till I adjusted it like that which means the air flow is almost in the off position, so how I did it was choke the air completely opened the water flow to max adjusted from off the air flow until there was just a touch of bubbles coming out then closed turned the air valve back and adjusted the water flow to be below the collection cup and slowly bubbles formed that went over the top. Basically reduce the air and water flow amounts dramatically and it will still skim when the balance between the two are right.

What is the water level so low in the tank?
yes. the water level was low and needed to be topped off but I usually keep an inch between the lid and water level. it's your preference. thanks for watching and commenting.

It can get the foam drier and if that's how you regulated it, I have the same skimmer.
