Finally!!! A video that truly breaks down what to change and how they work in relation to each other. Especially love the bubble size and consistency description. Absolutely excellent!
Agreed this is the best video I could find for tuning your protein skimmer. It makes no assumptions about how much you know and gives step by step directions for tuning. Great job!
Thank you! My AC skimmer was producing a wet skim and the colour was far too light. Your hint about adding a MaxiJet valve to adjust the amount of air going in was what fixed it for me and now my skimmate is nice and dark, and has been for several weeks. Thanks a lot!
Im so glad that you have been the new face for these new, updated videos. I absolutely love watching all of your videos. They are so helpful after being out of this hobby for 10 years and now im back in it, ive been binge watching all of your videos!
Ditto on the too big skimmer. Especially if you're running low micron filter socks or a filter roller, it's really easy to oversize a skimmer on your system, even if you get the right sized skimmer on a high bioload skimmer. You need to take into account your entire filtration system to size a skimmer.
Thanks Matt! I've been in the hobby for 2 years, and I've always struggled with tuning my skimmer. This tutorial was PERFECT! Can you also go into maintenance on a skimmer too? I recently watched a video with Jake Adams at a MACNA, and learned that I'm supposed to be using hot water to clean the salt build-up in the venturi.
Hopefully some of the tips in this video were helpful. Don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team either if you need some extra help getting your skimmer running properly
Seems that the filter socks cause the biggest problem with the water level height causing the skimmer to over or under skim. You miss changing socks at just the right moment before they get clogged is the the trick to a consistent skimmer
What about the bubble magus mini q? It says it’s a dc but you only control 2 things? Getting mad micro bubbles after a week and doesn’t seem like they are gonna go away
Might be hard to find at a local hardware store, but you'll probably have better luck finding a barbed ball valve. Most skimmers use a 3/8" size tubing.
I really like brs, but I’m going to be that guy. The tip on adding a valve to adjust the air does not work on AC pumps. Ryan and Randy already did another skimmer vid confirming this. They said cutting off the air let’s the impeller spin faster defeating what your trying to do. Sorry if I’m not describing that exactly word for word, and I’m not going through every skimmer vid to find the right one, but if you’re watching brs skimmer vids you’re going to come across it.
Solution.....buy a Lifereef Skimmer , works with any pump , doesn't need any adjustments, and will out last all these other skimmers with specialty pumps. You won't see any of these skimmers beat a Lifereef

I was surprised there weren’t any videos like this! So it was time to make it myself! Glad you liked it!
Thanks Matt!! This is the BEST video I've seen on protein skimmer adjustments yet. Very informational and STRAIGHT to the point.
Thanks Steph, glad you liked it!

Brian you are too kind! Thank you so much!
Best video I've found, describing skimmer setup
Excellent tutorial, I have never seen such easy, quick, and clear cut advice on how to tune a skimmer.
Thanks Justin!
I can never get enough of protein skimmers. 👍 Thanks for the help.
Haha… agreed!
I needed this video thanks. My skimmer was possessed.
👌🏼👌🏼
Love that shirt!!!! Also great skimmer tutorial!
😁
Dude this is amazing thank you so much for this information

Thanks! I will add that cleaning tutorial to the list!!
You da man Matt !
No, you da man Emmanuel!!
This is definitely a challenge with my reef tank and lately I just unplug it and walk away. Reefing is so frustrating!! Aarrrggghh

Yeah that’s a good point for sure!
Great video

I really miss Randy’s videos
If someone is going to get that valve thing for the air, can you get that at a hardware store? If so what would it be called exactly?

I thought brs investigates said wet is better for nutrient removal
Has anyone told you that you look like David Hewlett?
You are the first! I’ve gotten a lot of Matthew Perry and Neil Patrick Harris though.
It seems you guys are watching what I buy eh?
🤣
They never cover in tank skimmers. Only giant skimmers for massive tanks

huh, that's interesting... because it totally works on mine! You've had a different experience?
