This 67-69 Eldorado is one of the best designed car, I almost bought one here in Canada...it was just too much rust in my budget...still looking for the next !
Its a vent for smokers back in tge day you could smoke with the windows up
@@codyvought8923 we’re working on another video.
Take the rear tail light lenses out and clean the interior them. Things will brighten up.
How can so many knuckle heads Say no to this car ?!?!?!? This is a beauty.
They usually want more overrated cars that you see a dozen times at every car show, like a 69 Camaro or 57 Bel Air, Charger, Mustang, etc.. I prefer the less common classics like this.
His kid, of the Cadillac father,..... was more concerned with video games, social media, etc. Priorities with this generation.
I dunno man..I CAN'T elieve what I'm seeing! Have the interior gone over. I could probably do the paint correction myself. The vinyl top could be done by professionals..
That's LITERALLY all it needs!!!
@Vtec476 lol...not a lie! But man drop $5k into that car and hop in for a night out with your girl or some buddies. Roll up to a wedding, family gathering once in a while.
Worth it. No question in my mind.
👍
This was a hideously expensive car in the showroom back in 1969. It really showed you had dough and definitely weren't riding the bus to work. It looks terrific and a great candidate for full restoration.
Those were purdy nice lookin old rides back in the days
IT SHOULD NOT BE RESTORED, that would totally ruin it
@@Ignore_This_Account.Restore it to new? That does not ruin it.
full restoration can get crazy expensive. Remove the rust on the roof and anywhere else, new tires, freon and enjoy.......
The bottle mounted on the inner fender was for extra windshield fluid! It came as a standard feature in most 60's GM cars of that era!
You are correct. I have one on my 1963 Buick Riviera
If the bottle still had a label on it, it would say, “GM Optikleen”. :)
The fluid in the bottle was a CONCENTRATE. You mixed it with the appropriate amount of water depending upon the level of freeze protection needed.
@@roberthenley2474Yep got one on my 65 impala 👍

Travis has become one of my favorite shows to watch on UA-cam! Keep up the great work!
Same here
The people that past that automobile up must have been nuts.
Those older luxury cars...so many conveniences ... and so much that can break ...nice old Caddy!
I don't see how anyone can say no to something so beautiful. To be that old and in that great of shape, that was a lucky draw for sure.
I am that old and still in great shape.
That air thing in the trunk is a blower for the rear window. A "rear defoger"... before the gridline in-glass type... GM used those on a lot of their big cars.... didn't do much for keeping ice off the glass. But it did "defog". Those vintage Eldo's are the best!!!! A big true Cadillac 472 CID V8 with a 1st Gen Front wheel drive car! They were tanks but great cars. Take care if it!! Ps... those "coat hooks" are shoulder belt holders as most people didn't wear belts back then... they would fold up in the ceiling to get them out of the way. Also car had "rim blow horn"... you squeezed the rim of the steering wheel and the horn would sound.
Crazy thing with my 69 was that the only reason I replaced the headliner in it, many moons ago, was that the seat belt hooks rusted through the headliner. I have had people tell me they are stainless but I can tell you from experience mine were not. So maybe it depended on the trim package. But 60s GMs and modern 'vettes are the best vehicles GM ever built.
never fails to amaze me just how many `car guys` in these shows they present know very little about what they are doing.
Great find!! The V-shape in the rear window was formed by taking the sheet of glass and setting it on a hot steel rod make it malleable at the center point, then bending it to the exact angle for fitment into the car, right along the assembly line at the glass install station. They had to wait for it to cool before inserting it into the car which slowed production and contributed to the high sticker price.
That was just the cost of being cool I guess haha
The 1967-70 Eldos are nicknamed "Razorback."
@@jeffrobodine8579
Weren't they used in a few other gm cars?
@Theetravisb
In my day, being cool didn't cost at all.
If anything, being cool was more of an asset that paid off.

Loving the old Cadillac! I’ve just came across your channel and I’m really enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work 👍
As a kid growing up in the UK we didn't see a lot of US machinery, but first time I saw an Eldorado I was transfixed. It seemed to be unbelievably long and wide, and powered by a colossus of an engine, not to mention those razor-sharp lines. At this time, most British cars were very uninspiring. Good to see one of these mazing Cadillacs in such great original condition.
I rarely find any vids on the 67--70 Eldorado, so thank you so much. My all time favorite Cadillac. Amazing how these old cars hold up if maintained and garaged. A dream to ride. Would love an update on it. ;-)
They are tough old rigs !
A friend of mine had a blue '68, looked just like that one, '67 through '69 had he same body style, those things go, you could drive down the interstate going 80 mph and feel like were crawling they're so smooth. 472 CI. Beautiful cars. It's funny watching young people figure out things us geezers remember. Seatbelts were required starting in 1968. I would kill for that car. Those clocks never worked. It was easy because of the low mileage and it's a Cadillac, Cadillac owners took care of their cars and they lasted anyway. I hope you guys are using high octane gas. Rear defroster, not heated, they blow air, and they work.
Yes the clocks first thing to go
@@theetravisb They look cool though. 😂
Man, to be given such a sweet classic! I should be so lucky. Yes, it's going to need a new vinyl top but for the price you "paid" for it, that's no big deal. As clean as that body is any reputable paint and body shop should be able to match those minor spots with ease rather than repaint the car. One thing you DON'T want to do is start removing any of those vacuum lines as the system is all tied together and you could lose or damage a lot on that car. One very lucky young man!
Yeah I agree !
I'd rip the vinyl top off and just paint it white. Vinyl tops on cars are terrible they rust out the roof. Just my 2 cents.
My neighbor Charlie had a '69 Astral Blue W/Halo roof. Great memories of cruising the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Philly in the summer of '76 ! He owned it about 13 years.
He's one very lucky dude. Why anyone wouldn't want that beautiful Eldorado. I would would take her in a heartbeat. Thanks for getting her running so she can live a longer life.
My second car was a 69 eldorado. I was only 13 years old. Times were different back then. This old man would feel right at home in that sweetheart. 50 years ago would seem like yesterday
I'm nearly 50 and I only hear stories like these from my Great-Uncles. Born in the '20s and '30s. Many of them are gone now. But the fact that you could own and drive a car at 13....
I still can't get my head around that.
@@ironmyno I was out in the cornfields west of Chicago in the 70's. Nothing there and no one to care. Had 3 cars and a half dozen motorcycles even before 16, although only one of the bikes was a street bike. A Yamaha T250 2 stroke. No top end but a demon off the line.
You would have liked my first ride. It was a 1951 Pontiac Chieftain convertible. Bought it gor only $300 and drove it until the rotted exhaust fell off and the rear end failed. Restored, it would easily go for $100K now.
had one just like it in 1983 I was 17 yo .It was so solid &powerful .Surprisingly good handling on back roads and was a unbelievable highway car shifted out of 2nd at 90 mph.at full throttle then would blast up to over 120 ,sick torque.just sucked you into the seats.!

I had one of these in 1979 Great Car … I later had a Eldorado 1983 Model with the 500cu in Motor ..
People actually turned down that beautiful car for free!! Unbelievable
Thar is quite incredible that no one wanted this car. These big cars will run a long time without the issues that the new ones have 😮
Love watching your videos, that car is beautiful, well done both of you getting it going once again.
I get such a kick out of listening to you youngsters. You're so amazed at all the niceties on this car. I lived through all those years. I was selling tools when that car was built. I remember selling stuff to work on all of that stuff. GM used to have a wall in their shops of all the Kent-Moore factory special tools to work on everything on their cars and trucks. I had a contact that would get me everything from the factory so I could supply my independent mechanics allowing them to work on stuff the guys couldn't. I'm waaaay old.
Very well preserved over the 5 decades.
I would love to have and drive this Ole gangster ⚡
The hoses and blower motor are for the rear defogger. Electric defrost was an option, mid year I believe. And they were REQUIRED in the state of New York. Seat belts were mandated for cars produced after 1 January 1965 for both front seat positions. Shoulder belts were mandated for all cars (except converts) manufactured after 1 January 1969. Nice old boat, just check all the hoses and belts (replace ALL belts and hoses and flush the cooling system and check the wheel bearings) before you drive any distances. Phoenix is BRUTAL on all the rubber hoses and belts, even if it was stored in a garage. I would recommend a trans service as well. I live there for years and horse traded a lot of cars and since they don't have a state "safety inspection" a LOT of issues were ignored. Safety is FOREMOST. Good luck with it.
And wear those lap and shoulder belts.
New York and Massachusetts have safely inspection requirements since the early 90's so this one would have had that done before it could be registered
I can believe that is a 21K mile car. It is in amazing condition, and was certainly well cared for. I would definitely remove that vinyl top as quickly as possible though. It will rust out the roof under it if you leave it on there in that condition. With a little bit or work, that car will be worth some money. I wouldn't use it as a daily driver. I would try to keep the mileage low on it. You guys need to find some indoor storage for that car. It has clearly been stored indoors for most of it's lifetime. Especially in a climate like Arizona, it will deteriorate very quickly if you leave it outdoors. I have seen it happen. Keep it covered at the very least.
Please keep us in the loop with the progress
Nice video. I just saved a 1968 Eldorado and it started right up after 12 years without a problem. 90% rust free and most electronics still work. I have the video of its first start in 12 years on my channel. I still have to replace wheel bearings before it can roll again but I'm almost there!
Probably the most beautiful car ever made in my opinion. Thank you for treating it with such respect and bringing it back to the land of the living.
And there was me thinking your dad was the brains of this outfit! Well done on getting her going cheers from the UK

Not sure if anyone mentioned, not good to forcefully close trunk. Lower it gently, you will feel it grab - and it will automatically close. Slamming it closed as you guys are doing will damage the automatic closer mechanism.

Wow! Talk about a diamond in the rough! And it’s not even rough at all!!!
Beautiful stylish Cadillac!
Incredibly clean interior for being sat this long in the dry heat. Wow. Some light cleaning and a good condition and that “Leather with Vinyl” will be looking brand new. It’s leather seat faces with vinyl on the sides and back. You can see the sides of the seat where it changes from leather to vinyl. As you said, the vinyl pieces don’t crack, and still look new.
Some conditioner on the leather and remove that vinyl top. Once the top starts peeling, they usually make the roof rust fast. Often, they don't paint under there.
@@66skate Not only did they not paint under a vinyl top, sometimes the roof is attached with lead, or so I once read about some of those early to mid 1970s G. M. cars.
Man i was looking for Your videos but unfortunately i forget the channel name. Its so hard to remember😔
Hi.. This is the first video of yours I watched.. And I had to comment..
I owned a 1969 Eldorado in factory Wisteria (a light purple) that was a $$ option. So purple with a maroon interior..
The engine is a 472ci.. Puts out 375 HP and 535 foot pounds of tourqe .. I'm writting and haven't finished watching.. This is FWD ..2nd yr for Eldos .. The CV joint boots tend to tear often (too much power)...
The factory horn button is a 1 year item.. It was called "rim blow" the inner ring of the steering wheel is the button as you are holding the wheel you squeeze the wheel with your thumb..
As you sit in the drivers seat, open the glove box.. On the edge of the door there is. A slot about 5" long..The owners manual goes in there (most people don't know this)..
The a/c system or climate control.. Is always on.. The a/c compressor is always on (I put a switch in mine to shut it) when these cars were made, gas was ? $.25 a gallon.. Also only use R12 don't covert to R134... If you can get "R12" there were "drop ins" we used back in the day.. It was basically Propane.. Yes you can use Propane.. I know I know it's flammable..R134 Isn't until it's under pressure combined with oil.. It's less then 2lbs.. Don't worry, plus the a/c will be much colder then R134...
I daily drove mine, it was great but 8-12mpg in the city wasn't.. Maybe 16mpg on the hwy.
The ash tray/ cig. Lighter on the door was for the rear passenger..
I'm kind of sorry I sold that car but the money was good and it was hard to keep in the city without a garage..
Good luck to Chris..
Thanks for the comment and the info ! I didn’t know the compressors were always on.
Magnificent Automobile 🇺🇸👍
I would have loved to honor my Father by getting his car on the road after he passed. What a knucklehead that son was.
This cars hood is so long it's made of 2 PCs of metal joined at the seam. The seam is covered by the chrome strip. The exposed section above the grille was hand finished. Cadillac was responsible for all the sheet metal from the doors forward. Fisher finished the rear. From GM's glory days.
It amazes me how someone could not want an Iconic Cadillac! These are the ultimate in personal luxury cars. Congratulations on the lottery win! Hoses / blower in the rear are the old style rear window defogger. This car will clean up and be gorgeous. May I suggest you get that old vinyl top off ASAP and stop any rust. Enjoy!
Oil makes rubber swell so the oil filter gasket swells up and seals it. Plus it lubricates it so it get tight without tearing it.
Cool old car. Amazing how they made all these awesome details - switchers, lights, arrows, mirror adjustment - it took a lot of manual labor and resources.
Yes correct info about the auto leveling system this thing is my wet dream got nothing but cadillacs one in pieces not a fan of front wheel drive train omn these boats but I would take this in a heart beat
If it hasn't already been said (pretty sure it has), that triangular glass bottle under the hood is an Opti-Kleen bottle for windshield washer concentrate. That El Dorado is a VERY cool find with a lot of potential! Hard to find such a clean survivor nowadays.
Yes so true
Man what a beautiful car, this video needs more reviews. I'm so happy it started right up.

Mr. B. Here ! Am new to your show case ! Anyone that knocks these Old cars they believe all the marketing that was put out of mis-information. That’s why the name Land Yacht was used. Another free tech tip. I currently live in France/Riviera ... most placed don't have "Garages" so have to park my C6 Z06 outside ... with the Mice. They kindly leave Acorn shells on top of my Engine cover. Found out that dosing some Cotton balls with "Peppermint Oil" and leaving them around the engine bay repels them; doesn't kill them, they just can't stand the smell. Also made a next in the cabin air filter ... replaced and dose it with the Peppermint Oil. Not a mouse has come back since ... you do have to reapply the Oil periodically ... like every other month to keep it fresh. Nice smell in the cabin BTW !!!
I'll be sure to keep my eye out if I ever see this car on the road around town!
I don't usually like gm, but I'd take this beast in a heartbeat
Seat belts first became federally required in 1968 for all new passenger cars and 1971 for pickup trucks.
The triangular bottle is factory it's a refill for the windshield washer fluid
That car is a Beauty ! Well Done, your friend is as Happy as he is Lucky !
I had the 70 Eldo in gold . It was named The Golden Warrior ! This is a fast car and drives like a dream. The back windows are great , they slide into the body of the car. It was one of my favorite Caddies and I have owned quite a few . It is the first American made car with front wheel drive . Use lead additive in it .
Oldsmobile Toronado was introduced in 1966 with FWD, Eldorado went FWD in 1967. The Cord L29 was FWD, by the way, from 1929 through 1932 followed by the FWD Cord 810 / 912 of 1936 - 37 which inspired the '66 Toronado.
That said, 1970 was the best year for Eldorado and the best of the 472 / 500 series engines. I had a gold '70 DeVille some years ago.
Those tires won’t have date codes. That started in 2000 or so
The triangle shaped washer bottle is worth it's weight in gold! Protect it with your life! A friend of mine paid several hundred dollars of one of those bottles, for his Buick Rivera. Also that right side, outside mirror is/was a very rare option.
I used to have an '88 Fleetwood Brougham and it had level ride suspension on all 4 wheels. I was sitting in a friend's driveway once that was on a hill and the passenger side was downhill. He was sitting in the passenger side with the door open and one foot on the ground and I turned the key on, but didn't start the car and he asked what was happening because his foot was no longer on the ground, lol. It had little things on the fenders that flashed when you had your turn signals on as well as red led flashers just above the rear window you could see in the rear view mirror. The digital climate control in it worked flawlessly.
What generally happens with dial string on old radios is that the variable capacitor (looks like a small bread slicer) gets stiff from old grease hardening in them and that makes the string slip. I always just set the stations using the push buttons and rarely ever manually tuned the radio. On that kind, you manually tune to a station and fine tune it for the best signal, then you choose a button for that station, pull the button out, then push the button back in and that locks it to that spot on the dial. Older radios with push buttons had little antenna tuning coils behind each button that you would tune with a screwdriver. On those the dial wouldn't move when you pressed the button, but the preset station would come on just the same. When you wanted to go back to manual tuning you either turned a knob or hit a switch on the end that would re-engage the manual tuner, usually the same knob would also change the bands from am to fm and even shortwave.
That brake pedal wear trick can be very misleading because I always used to buy new pedal rubber covers when mine would get worn down. I miss those old land yachts. I'm 6'8" and they always just had such a comfortable ride that you didn't care if you were driving all day because you didn't FEEL like you had been riding all day. Modern cars I drive 350 miles and I feel like I've been beat to death because of their sport suspensions. Gimmie that "boulevard ride" any day over a stiff suspension.
this gen eldo, along with contemporary riv and toro, are already custom from the getgo...nothing can be done to improve on them. i can't believe that anyone would have turned this down, esp considering the condition...this is awesome. Just Dashes can fix those door panels. Thats a signal seeking radio...pressing the arrow buttons will cause it to seek...fun watching young guys learning about this awesome eldo
Arrows raise and lower the antennae, lol. Seeking radios for these caddies had a “AUTO-SEEKING” badge, looks like this car had the am/fm stereo package
That is cool! Got one of the best Cadillacs ever made for free! Hope it gives you a great experience!
It’s a “rim blow” horn. The center section of the steering wheel does not activate the horn. Again, you’re very lucky it works! The rear “defroster” is actually a “defogger” simply blows air on the rear windshield. Lucky that the shop didn’t just part the car out for a quick buck!
Hi that is not a rear defroster. That is a fresh air circulation system. When you drive the air from the front vents would circulate fresh air in the car cabin.
I rode around as a kid in the same model. The shiny lock under the dash was called a Z-lock that was an ignition kill switch.
The ducting in the trunk is a rear screen demister. Had something similar in my 1977 Z28 Camaro
That69 Caddy is so classy next to that POS in the parking lot!
That's your rear defogger system in the truck. My cousin was a designer for Cadillac from 1960-1990's Cool color on your Cadillac Eldorado I have not seen this color before on a Cadillac. You possibly may have a rare color?
De-fogger systems blew unheated air. De-froster systems blew heated air. I had a 66 Ford Galaxy that had the same thing.
Seatbelts became mandatory in 1966.
I WOULD'VE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS & WIRES & THE AIR FILTER.
Fun facts ... the '67 Eldorado was the first with front wheel drive (first GM with front wheel drive was the Olds Toranado in '66). While this is a 472 cuin engine in '70 they got upgraded to the 500 cuin (400hp and 550 lb-ft of torque) for better performance. I had a '72 Fleetwood in my College days ... only mechanical issue was a broken Valve spring (didn't tear anything else up thank goodness). But some free advice for your bud ... hot Texas day and had a rain shower that dried quickly but still a few puddles. Pedal to the metal on highway on ramp, hit a puddle and the Engine died. Pulled over ... no mechanical sounds and restarted just fine. But the second I put it in gear and gave her gas, she died. Had it towed to a "Shop" who wanted big bucks and rebuild the engine. Being in College, didn't have that kind of cash so in the pre-internet days, ask friends if they knew of a better shop; wasn't buying the motor rebuild diagnosis as there was zero mechanical noise. Asked my Barber and he pointed across the street to old gas station mechanic/muffler shop. After my haircut, walked over to discuss the issue with the old guy. Told me to tow it over by 8 am and it would be fixed by noon. Sure enough, came at Lunch and it was running like a Top !!! I was amazed ... so I asked him what happened. He informed me that Caddy's have a double wall exhaust system to keep everything "quiet". When I hit the puddle, the inner wall ballooned and restricted exhaust ... think "Banana in the Tail Pipe" gag. So if it ever happens, your Bud will know ...
Amazing, I can't believe how easy it was to get going. You can see the incoming wood grain craze of the 70s in the interior
