Josh's Guitar Tech seems like the type of dude you'd wanna have a beer with.
We did!
Or a cup of tea ☕️
That's because he's English and we were born to do that
the GW Bush of guitar techs
Yes he has the best personality out of all the tech’s.
“Hopefully it won’t be 4 years before we see each other again”
“Thing might not change that much”
John Frusciante has entered the chat
@BENDER "And this is my old friend Ibanez WH 10 wah, you know ibanez make this wah pedal again"
"these are my twenty tb-303s"
God I wish covid hadn't happened :C
Tech seems like the nicest guy
He really does.
Most British people are really down-to-earth.
Colonel Forbin lol - true. But I’d say that honestly humbled us a lot. When the empire fell. That’s probably the specific moment we started making fun of ourselves, and started being down to earth. Because seriously, you won’t last 5 minute in England if you’re cheesy/fake/arrogant lol..........As soon as people like that walk into a room, they get mocked until they learn how to be humble and nice
Came here to say the same thing. I would love to be friends with that guy.
Right. Id love to just chill and jam and talk with him. Altho id love to do that with the band. Esp flea and john(i miss him) josh is a great player but john was somethinf else. A genius
You can tell everyone in this video loves their job. Thanks for the video guys, very nice!!

Premier Guitar thx for another great one. It would be great if you would address wireless routing in rig rundowns. I'm always curious how acts manage this and what their reasons are. I've toured with musicians that run one wireless and turn transmitter packs on and off, and others that have a wireless for each instrument and the switching is done via midi when presets are selected. In a rig like Ian's I'm curious how he handles guitar changes on the Radial JX44 since you can only have one channel on at a time. Thx again!
Itd be impossible not to love this job. The only better job would be being in the band 😉
I never realizes there is a 2017 version. And now we wait for John's Rig Rundown!
2024 - Rig Rundown John Frusciante
Yes pleeeeeeease
YES!
No we fuckin want a Johns Signature Strat by Fender
Ricardo SC please
Piyush More both
Imagine naming your guitars after your band members children and then they drop you without a second thought.
Damn, that got me.
shits fucked. they could have been the two guitarists bruh like it would have been so tuff.
@@ilan71 I don't see it. I love josh in the band but John takes the band to a whole nother level. Maybe josh would tour tho?
...except that's not at all what happened.
@@Nostaljack jokes exist.
These "Rundowns" emphasize a important point,- it can be vital for even the most talented individuals to employ " that guy" that has spent their lifetime learning and understanding not only WHAT works, but WHY it works...or dosen't.Two different skill sets; met great players that could barely change their own strings. That right/ left lobe brain thing, in many cases.Every good live band has this guy , as a member, or as an employee.
THIS! SO MUCH THIS!
These guys are amazing, holy shit, so much knowledge. And they really love their job, don't they? Great stuff.
Benjamin Malave it was unlisted bro, but It was already published

you guys should do one on Warpaint. I think it would be a little more simple but they play cool stuff...
aggroed they did!
stoked. I watched it last night. Im going to pretend they did it because of me! lol
An awesome rig rundown. The techs seem like the coolest dudes.
tMattLZ
They generally are. You always take care of your audio tech and the sound guy for the show.
i found the greenday tech was kinda dick but the rhcp tech guy seems like a guy i'd drink some coffee or something with.
this was a genuinely fun rundown. i like josh's tech. also should add that this is my favorite rig runner downer
"He was explaining something to a wedge with his foot and his foot got broken."
That's a story that needed more telling right there haha.
I read an article where he told the story and I immediately remembered this comment. It may not as fun as it sounded by this video but from a Gearphoria interview this is how it happened:
"It was just really bad timing. The monitors engineer that had been with
us since the beginning of the tour decided it was time to step away. So
he left when we played our Staples (Center) show, which was pretty much a
year to the day to our first show back in Hong Kong, and I just thought
that, a year in, you should just have yout shit dialed and not be
playing your hometown arena show, in front of all your parents friends,
with a brand new monitors engineer. It was his first show. So I had a
horrible show in LA at Staples. The second show, I soldiered through it
but it was still really bad, and the third show with this guy one night,
I just had enough and I kicked a monitor really hard."
I think there was actual footage of him slamming his foot into a amplifier
yeah I was at the show! My first RHCP concert actually August 14, 2012 at Oracle arena in Oakland. Happened while playing otherside there's videos on youtube you can see. He also apologized later in the show for having to hobble along which I believe is also on youtube.
@@jjlovemusic4ever I wonder how much time he spent talking to and working with the engineer backstage before having a fit about his work.
@@mr.anonymous5501 I can imagine that at first he didn't explain what he needed exactly and perhaps let the guy guide him a little, but I would not think that he didn't talk at all with him.
So glad to be able to hear Breaking the Girl when they performed it in San Antonio. Amazing performance that night
Dang you're lucky. I hope to hear it live one day but it's so rare. They didn't play it when I saw them in Oakland
I watches both Chili Peppers Rundowns back to back and Ian is definetely one of the nicest persons that got interviewed for these things.
The chemistry between Ian and Chris is really great! I liked it in 2012, but now they're like buddies.
Who else *initially* didn't think Josh was great, but now thinks he's absolutely CRUSHING it?
reservoirfrog1 100%. I was a John fanboy for the longest time but I saw them live a couple months ago and Goodbye Angels changed my mind so fast when Josh played the outro
I was with joshhy boy since 2011
He’s got big shoes to fill and I don’t envy the amount of scrutiny he was under when he joined the band. I have to believe that John chose him as his replacement for good reason. I’d much rather see Josh up there with the band than John knowing that his heart isn’t in it anymore.
I hope to catch them in concert sometime this year.
I mean, he just left the band...
Just returned home after seeing Chilis in Milwaukee. Show was EPIC, guitars were beautiful, and well-played. Love band after over 30 years. Grateful for every note of music I was lucky enough to see/hear!
The RHCP episodes are always killer! Ian and Tracy are some good dudes 👊🏻
I ONLY use band-aid brand band aids for my band aides.
i only use _duck_ tape.
i only use vintage band aids or maybe custom-shop, boutique-type ones
Only NOS band aids!😭

Hello, I am inquiring about the yard sale.
It's been out for like a week. Dunno why it says published today.
You get the link to the private vid on youtube if you read the site or are a subscriber. Can't recall which. :D
How many can I get for 20 bucks if I have cash?
How much for just the sandwich?

Lmao, it's goes across all my Social Media! Bless PUGS!

Droxcy sww
I'd love to have a mate like Ian
They're such a well oiled machine at this point it's clock work. The Chili Peppers always mix it up though, so it keeps them on there toes! Great team that puts on their shows!
"This one gets played on Go Robot..... I don't know why"
Benjamin Malave fender hooked me up with the weathered comment look
lol
Neil Richert Seriously though, how the f*** did that happen? Hahaha
they share the link to their videos while they're unlisted for a few days before they publish them, so followers on social media often see them early
Liam Shanley Oh, I see. Thanks!
Hats off to anyone that understands everything involved in managing a rig like Josh's
I met about 10-15 guys exactly like this, since I moved to London from New Jersey. The down-to-earth, laughing at yourself, kind, self-depreciation, thing is definitely a British trait!
I just love that DD3 sound josh uses. you hear immidietly its josh
you mean the one on dark necessities, right? do you know any other song where he uses it?
mikelbengoetxea Yea. And he also used it on jams before monarchy of roses and in the song
mikelbengoetxea He uses it on The Adventures of Raindance Maggie and Monarchy of Roses
Jonny Greenwood homage
The best RigRundown ever
check out the ACDC rig rundown.. now that was Awesome !!
Ian's top-notch. Seems like an awesome guy to work with.
These videos are so amazing, thanks for doing them for so long
"Guitar is a little less responsibility than a kid."
Well yeah but they still come with strings attached.
KingNothingIII well done
Dad, is that you?
Omg yessss hahaha
GET OUT
Well done !!!
Josh and his Pedals ^^ & Ian is a nice Tech
Excellent rundown. You can tell the techs love their jobs and Chris did an excellent job asking good questions and the jokes
I would love to see this guy opening for RHCP concerts getting him talking about gear is better than any opening band
Wow that’s a great idea
That’s a cool concept man, seriously!!! Have a few techs explain the setup and preparation kind of a Q&A about the bands equipment. Then the band comes on and rocks it!👹🤘🏼
After seeing Jim Brewer open for Metallica, I must say something like what you're suggesting would have been so much better than what we got lol
I like how josh's rig is kind of integrated with John's rig, and he's open about using gear just cause that's what was used in the band
I wish I could afford to have this tech fix my pedal board. unreal how talented this guy is.
'Explaining something to a monitor with his foot' .....love it.Really cool rig rundown
Big fan of John's work, and really thought they were done when he stepped off, but got to say,- they just keep getting lucky.Watching Josh play live very much reminds me why I've played guitar my whole life; he's got the rare , magic mix of technical skill and out of the box creativity; maybe not as volatile and out there as John, but as demonstrated, you pay a heavy price for that when combined with business and fame.Personally, think they are stronger than ever as a band,- which is highly unusual.May all these good men find their peace, in life (or in death, Hillel)as in music.
Ale,- Think we are on the same page.Having been in several bands, I recognize it is very much about individual and group chemistry,- you've got to get that balanced, beautiful mix of personalities,- that's why also I've never heard a "supergroup" , or "star" frontman backed by semi anonymous studio musicians that I thought were any good.Every piece is equally important,- can't lose a bassist, for example, and just suppose any old prooven, skilled, bassist will work .(Could cite many examples),- and that's what I meant,- RHCP have been blessed , over and over, with outstanding and necessary talent,- no small thing. And what's ever better is that they are/ were so different.Peace, friend.
Was a pedal skeptic for years and recently have been realising the value of everything I'd previously ignored... These videos are amazing! Thanks Rig Rundown!!
Robert Plant and Roger Waters as techs, what else can you ask for?
Fat Robert Plant.
@john beaver me too
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
and Aaron Spears as Chad's tech.
I can't unsee that....
2023: I was pleasantly surprised to see Mr. Ian in the background of "JANE'S ADDICTION @LollapaloozaCL 2023 [Full Show]" - March 19, 2023. Cheers.
Chick Hearn!!! Long time Lakers broadcast announcer! RHCP have been diehard Lakers fans since the 80's!
“Smashing piece of kit”...god I love it! Brilliant terminology, great guy as well!
I love that he explains the origin of the guitar names.
Abigail Ybarra worked at Fender from 1956 to 2013. She was legendary!! I love the guys at Premier Guitar, but that's a 15 yard penalty.
We put Chris in the penalty box - commence 15-year countdown...
Premier Guitar I mistyped. Penalty is declined. Continue First Down.
Thank you thank you thank you for demoing the pedals!!!
gotta say say chris keis did an amazing job yet again
Luke Whalen Say say it aint so...
Man, Josh used so many pedals I think I saw at least 15 in his rig I either own or owned and sold. That was a sweet rig, I'm excited John is back but would love to see Josh if he tours with one of his bands.
00:15 - 12:39 : Josh's guitars
12:39 - 16:03 : Josh's rack pedals

these guys are a true definition of "professional"
Chris and Rebecca have to be my favorite rig rundowners. They seem to ask all the right questions. They're like that one journalist who does homework before interviews. Very pro in my book.
Someone give Chris Keys an award because that was fabulously done!
I'm always curious as to why people give these types of videos the "thumbs down." I mean, if it isn't the type of video you like, MOVE ON! Honestly, I'm sure the guys from Premier Guitar have to jump through many, many hoops to do these videos. I say MAJOR kudos to you guys for putting these together - sometimes with the actual artist themselves (though talking to the tech is very often a little more interesting, IMHO). Anyway, great job on all of these videos - getting the shots you need in what I am sure is always a tight time crunch with good audio from the interviews.
Just when I thought I was going to sleep...
Jason Eckard 2 years later, I am you. And I’ve watched it before. And I don’t like RHCP.
Man. Chris is a fantastic interviewer. I came to this after the Dino Jr rundown. He did great keep J awake!! 😅
It’s so great Robert Plant’s brother decided to help out RHCP and become Josh’s tech!
Watching this in 2020 feeling bad for Josh. He named his guitar after Flea’s son, and flea was the one who was instrumental in Josh being fired and John rejoining.
Nathan Liberty that’s good to hear
Time to dust of John's old Majors.... he is back! Thanks to Josh for all his creativity and energy over the last 10 years.
I read somewhere that John sold his Major. There was a ledger to prove it too.
I hope that as happy we are that John’s back, that Josh knows that we love and appreciate him a lot 💕💕💕💕

That parallel universe telacaster has history in it. Legendary
chick hearn was the Lakers announcer for many years and was a legend.
Can't wait to see them Saturday.
carbon fibre reinforced neck , lane pooor pickup , aguilar obp1 pre amp ... basically a modulus with the fender name slapped on it ...
Yeah.. I don't really know why they switched to Fender, must be some kind of a marketing thing. In my opinion the Moduls is typical for Flea, it even looks more individual than the Fenders...
His Fenders originally had Aguilar AG 4M pups on it, but I guess he switched em back to Lane Poor.
Ian (Iain?) Is such a lovely genuine guy - I can imagine having a drink with him and talking gear for hours on end!
now we need a new one with John's set hehehe
Fingers crossed
Couples of strats and a white falcon..
and a tele, don't forget
FurtiveGold87
His pedal board is pretty crazy
I would love to see how he makes the insane noises in We Believe just after the choruses. So immortal it's scary.
I recognized Ian before a RHCP concert because of this video, he came out to set the guitar up. And people around me were calling him Shakira lol
Love the way that every guitar tech is a long haired British metal casualty. I feel safe in knowing I have a potential career 😂
These tech guys are the coolest dudes, makes me happy
Saw the chili peppers end of last year in December Manchester, And was one of the best nights ive ever had with my dad 2nd time we've seen them and probably be the last. we was sat in block 114, and funnily enough Ian with josh walk right past me in the walkways couple of rows away from me. Weren't able to get a picture as you was both gearing up for the show. But was a fantastic show the lightning effect was done very clever and Ian did a brilliant job in keeping the gear in tac. Also he got one of the standing up members of the crowd who had a word with him before the show and they got to look at joshs Gear which i was very jealous of.But was a brilliant night overall
Three cheers for Tracy Robar! He seems to really enjoy his work. I wish I had more coworkers like that.
I was watching this when I learned that John was back
I'm actually watching this after hearing the news. Crazy stuff.
David Eckert Same here lol
wait... what?!?! I guess I'm watching this when I heard that John was back (which is right now)
The difference between this and the 2012 rig is shocking. I'm a pedal lover myself but Josh's old board was absolutely ridiculous - this setup is SO nice and so much cleaner.
josh has many guitars, i remember john had 2 strato sunburst, the telecaster, the gretsch (unique to play californication) and a mustang that he varely use it. But josh has a lot of arsenal, really cool btw.
He had a '62 & '55 Sunburst Stratocasters (also another Sunburst Strat appeared on Stadium Arcadium Era),a Red Fiesta one,an Olympic White one,his Telecaster,a Gibson Les Paul (for Readymade),his Gretsch White Falcon, his Martin Acoustic Guitar, and I bet I'm forgetting guitars

12:48. "It's not as complicated as it looks". Then describes one of the more complicated rigs I've ever seen.. Very British.....lololol..............Great Rundown!!!!!
nice to see Roger Waters is still Flea's bass tech
He looks like the lovechild of Roger Waters and Stewart Copeland
Hahahaha

HAHAHAHA... well done
So glad they did another one of these!! What a brilliant watch.
I wouldn't mind a rig rundown with RHCP from every album cycle :P
Ian you are a legend! So informative, bless you sir.
2:40 Is no one going to comment on the fact that Josh literally PUNCHED A HOLE IN HIS GUITAR???
That punch cost more than the cars of half the viewers
@@daftnord4957 i don't even have a car (cries in broke)
Thats because he is a sucker, a true guitarist dont disrespect that instrument like that
Carlos Ignacio Arce stevie ray vaughan’s #1 was rebuilt countless times due to stevie abusing it every single show. it’s not disrespecting the instrument it’s a vent for creative energy overflowing.
@@carliarce Pete Townshend and jimmy Hendrix arent real guitarists then
That pink strat looks gorgeous!
It would be really cool if you could another Aerosmith Rig Rundown! Their final American tour is supposed to be later this year... so it's like the last chance to see all their awesome gear
"Hair in the eyes" with Ian gesturing his hand as the hair really got me 😂
Josh has a great taste in music
This might be the only set of rundowns where i actually want the tech over the artist.
“Smashing piece of kit”
I must have watched this video at least 20 times over the last 4 years 🤣
looking forward to seeing the next RHCP rig rundown with the man, the myth, the ledgend mr John Frusciante
I really think they won the lottery of guitar and bass techs... A couple of nice guys who are genuinely happy to be where they are and stay with their band.
Must be nice to work for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. (My favorite band!)
Josh's white chicken guitar is awesome AF, but nothing replaces John's White Falcon.... that thing makes god sounds....
good thing im not the only one who loves those guitars. LIT
I got a silver falcon recently. Very similar to the white falcon but looks kooler in my opinion. You're right.... IT's fuckin amazing. I prefer to play a strat or a tele as it feels more comfy to me but yeah... That falcon model is GRAND
God now we’re even comparing josh and johns guitars how sad
Josh was using a gretsch white penguin for a little while but he wasnt too fond of it and then he saw the white chicken and now thats his choice for Californication and Otherside. Do prefer the chicken over the falcon as it's so incredibly rare where as a Epiphone wildkat looks similar to the falcon, and half the price!
@@Weirjetwashing like the picture Rkid! As you were
I love these gear videos. Its always interesting to hear about guitarists setups.
