Adorable Burrowing Owl Chicks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лип 2015
- We’re taught the basics of owl behaviour at a young age: they’re nocturnal, constantly ask “who?” and are incapable of sharing tootsie pops. However, burrowing owls aren’t like most owls. These owls use daylight for hunting big juicy ground dwelling insects. Their vocalizations aren’t typical halloween hoots, rather they’re high pitched hisses or coos. One particular hiss emulates a rattlesnake rattling in an attempt to deter predators. Finally, where other owls live and nest in trees, the burrowing owl chooses open prairies and treeless grasslands - and in Canada there aren’t many of these grassland ecosystems remaining. Over the past three decades more than 90% of the Canadian burrowing owl population have vanished. Fewer than 800 breeding pairs remain across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia.

Bairds sparrow and Spragues pipit singing in the background, the prairie is just heaven
the way it popped its head on the beginning. so adorable ;w;
They're even more adorable in person - such a fun species of owl to watch :)
It was probably checking to make sure it's safe to come out. There's essentially zero cover out there, so it would be easy for a larger predator like an eagle to spot them.
One doesn't get enough of watching owls, they are such adorable, comic creatures 😍 thanks for sharing
@jinde_meriye there are days when I watch this video in its entirety just to escape the chaos of daily life 😂😂😂
@@neilfisher It's really soothing and makes you relax watching nature's varied creations
I love that you left the original audio of the video. I def prefer this way over music. thanks for the video!
Totally agree that footage such as this benefits from having no music added - natural audio all the way :)
Viviane B def?
They are so cute and comical to watch. I could watch them all day. Thank you for sharing this ❤️
They are SO CUTE and fascinating. I'm going to visit my kids in months, and there's a colony (?) of them not too far from my daughter's house. I'm looking forward to taking my grandson to see and watch them. 😊
That bug buzzing around is getting on their nerves LOL …So comical! Thanks for the video.
Please somebody explain why owls are so cute, especially burrowing owls.
@donwald3436 definitely their eyes and insanely cute bouncing behaviour help 😂😂😂
Wow, incredibly footage. I am currently watching a family of burrowing owls here in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I'm jealous SantaFeLady, as here in Canada the burrowing owl is a migratory species and is only here for a few months of the year.
Wow one owlet got all 3 crickets and everyone else got none #favouritechild
+DrPickleful ... yeah, hatching asynchrony can be harsh. 😐
Great video. From this perspective you can see how difficult it is to keep their habitat, it's a real wide open space with no cultivation.
Many thanks @Scott Taylor👍 The agricultural cultivation of the early 1900's played a huge roll in the decline of many prairie species, but it's inspiring today to see just how many farmers and ranchers here in Canada have become dedicated conservationist - working hard to preserve species like the burrowing owl 😃😃😃
They're all so precious!
They're certainly are. 😁
The way that head popped up🥺
ooooooo. my gf volunteered at the raptor center while in vet school MN CVM. She is going to flip when i show her this ;) I'm also very glad we have the audio. Nice dedication!
+jwestpro the funny thing is my girlfriend attending vet school in Saskatchewan is what brought me to the prairies. The audio in this video is too fun to cover it with music. 😀
Such a calming shoot.
@nugget dinner it may look calming from the perspective of the camera, but these tiny owls are always wary of their surroundings - they're prey for many species of larger raptors, fox, coyote and badgers 👍👍👍
Thank you very much for this cute and adorable moment. It is magic. Best regards.
Many thanks @Chewby Spirit 👍 These adorable little owls certainly are magical to watch 😃😃😃
absolutely no music! thank you
Loved this. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
очаровательные! прекрасные птени))
@user-rl2mh6vx9m, Они, безусловно, очаровательные маленькие птички 😃😃😃
I love 0:46
"I'm home, you li'l shits. Who's hungry?"
Hahaha... exactly! And considering a single owl family can eat 1,800 rodents and 7,000 insects in a summer - this father will be making quite a few trips. 😆
there's a couple in my backyard. They've been around for like 1,5 or 2 years. In total, they gave birth to 15 to 20 chicks. Nowadays there are two chicks
Pedro, I'm very jealous. Here in Saskatchewan, the burrowing owl is a migratory species. They arrive in April./May then head back south to Texas and Mexico in September.
Thanks for a great glimpse of nature. I walked up on one accidentally a couple of years ago in the woods behind my house. I had 2 eggs it was sitting on and flew away as if injured to throw me off or draw me away from the nest (which was only leaf litter that had fallen from the surrounding cedar trees. Went back to take a photo the next day and they were all gone, never saw a burrow around the area she was in.
Very cool @Samuel Hall 👍👍👍
This must be a day of fasting as I don't see enough food being delivered to keep these owlets happy.
@austin1839 it's only a small snap-shot of their day. Earlier in the day, I observed two snakes and ten mice delivered to the burrow in less than half an hour - some serious commitment form the parents 👍👍👍
Adorable chickies!❤️😍
First one up gets the goodies! Thanks for posting this!
It really is interesting to see how a day or two difference in age impacts the size and behaviour or young.
awwww #so adorable
Great work
Thanks RobAmyVideo :)
Beautiful
Thanks so much Robson. 😀
This is brilliant!
+olrepas glad you think so. They're certainly hilarious to watch 😀
Gorgeous!
@M H these tiny owls certainly are photogenic 😃😃😃
@@neilfisher love how this was filmed Neil.. looks like a perfect dessert morning.. love how there is no backing music also.. really great... Thanks for sharing.
wow what a great video, love it
Thanks @hil ned 😃 They're certainly incredibly cute 👍👍👍
I love them. Saw them all the time out on Antelope Island.
Momma! Come feed us!
I hope one isn't dead, what with those flies buzzing around.
Where was this taken? The Great Plains somewhere?
Thanks for not ruining the video with music.
Thanks Bunny Bgood. Yes, this was captured in the temperate grasslands of western Canada, where the burrowing owls are a migratory species and their population has dramatically fallen over that paste three decades. 🦉
Damn flies........
+Marcio Campos hahaha.... certainly annoying to listen to - but they're an important prey item for the owls. 😀
Lindas ! Lindo video!
Obrigado @Vilma Coutinho 👍
❤️
i want it
Chicken sound 0:35
@StAr ThE fOx :3 Pizza time did you know that the burrowing owl can create a noise very very similar to that of a rattlesnake rattling its tail? The mimicry noise helps ward off potential predators 😃😃😃
7:38 one question.... Why she is leaving without kids?
Good question. The young owls have yet to fledge (learn to fly) and remain in close proximity to the relative safety of their burrow entrance. The adult owls are responsible for gathering enough food for all their offspring until, the young owls fledge and are able to hunt for themselves. 😀
@@neilfisher okay but I'm making sure because I'm really sad 😅😅😅😅
Hello... 0:01
... and goodbye 😆😆😆
peekaboo
Ha... totally @Chrominoid 04 😆😆😆
They all look like Ringo Starr
@Ian Hay ... admittedly I had to Google Ringo Starr as I had no idea what he looked like - not that I didn't know who he was. Anyway, I see some striking resemblance. 😝😝😝
