The 5 D's of Design:
1. Discover
2. Design
3. Develop
4. Deliver
and
5. Dodge
Backon Lazer oml, my teacher made that reference when we asked to play dodgeball, I'm dying
Backon Lazer Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds
Backon Lazer xD
I’m proud of myself that I got that reference
IF YOU CAN DODGE A PAINT BRUSH YOU CAN DRAW THE MOANA LISA
You have a clear natural aptitude for teaching. Not only with teaching people techniques with art, but in general. You are an excellent communicator, you have a strong ability to make concepts understandable to your audience, and the way you present information makes it easy to retain.
Whenever I have someone teaching me something, I generally have to ask them to explain it to me several times before it really "clicks", so to speak. However when you explain a concept or reasoning for something, I understand it immediately.
I'd like to thank you for sharing not only your gift of art with us, but your gift for teaching as well.
dolebiscuit Beautiful comment. I'd love to have Jazza as an art teacher... then I'd finally get it
2 months ago I couldn't draw anything. I was stuck in 3D art. Then I started watching his videos and got myself a tablet and just drew drew drew... I still suck but I have greatly improved. Never thought I'd be able to make money off drawing yet
Agreed
ikr
I agree! I have the same "problem" when learning new things, and I usually have zero patience for video tutorials. But I actually quite like listening to Jazza and I have no issues listening to his tips and tricks!
I’m trying to find a unique outfit for a centaur character I’m making, so I hope this helps. It’s harder than I thought, tbh
Hardest part is coming up with new design
I've been drawing for 28 years, and I still have trouble with costumes.
Edna: "NO CAPES."
NOH CEPS!!!
Nu capyehps plez, tank yoo.
BlazeTheNeko LOOOOOOOOL incredibles reference
BlazeTheNeko NO CAPES!!
BlazeTheNeko never look back Darling, it distracts from the now
I was watching this and realised how many cartoons use the colour coordination. And I was thinking TMNT. Raph is intense, Mikey is Bright and happy, Leo is stable and tranquil and then Donny is all of a sudden seductive and alluring
That woman must lactate glue or something, her shirt-hoisting skills are off the God-damn chain.
I just discovered your videos this morning, and I love them. I've tried to get into drawing a few times in my life, but I've always gotten frustrated and distracted by other things. Recently, though, I've resolved to start trying again. Vids like yours really keep me invested!
A problem I keep running into, though, is my age. I'm 26 years old, with almost no skill whatsoever yet. Little better than stick-figure stuff on a *very* good day. I keep running into a wall where I start psyching myself out and telling myself that there's not much point, because I'm starting so "late". It sucks. Objectively, I know it doesn't matter! But the brain does weird things... Lol
I know you've been drawing since you were a kid, but do you perhaps have any words of wisdom that might help a total beginner in my position feel better about getting into comic / manga art....?
Thanks, Jazza. You rock.
Go easy on yourself. If you enjoy the process you'll have motivation to progress faster, and there are many people who bloomed late and succeeded. To illustrate: elearninginfographics.com/wp-content/uploads/It%E2%80%99s-Never-Too-Late-to-Learn-Infographic-1000x2989.png
Watch some videos on my motivation Playlist, i talk about this all quite a bit there, but main point is try and go easy on yourself, and enjoy the journey.
Also thank you for your kind words and for watching my videos :)
Draw with Jazza You, sir, are a fine human being. ^_^
Caffeine Swordsman To add to Jazza's points, you've just got to find out what YOU would like to draw. I mean it all really depends on why you'd like to get back into drawing, would you like it to simply be a hobby or are you looking to make it a career? Regardless of either you're going to need to get the fundamentals down (channels like Jazza's are great for learning this) but after that you should begin to ask yourself how you'd like to draw if its just for your own enjoyment. When you look at someone what features pop out to you? Do you have a lot of artists whose work really inspires you? What kind of of art are you most interested in, drawing characters, scenery, or patterns and abstract designs? Of course you can dabble in all of them, and I highly recommend doing so because experimenting is a great way to learn what you like - and more importantly what you don't like.
Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying developing your own style is everything, and if you don't enjoy doing a certain type of work that doesn't mean you should avoid it from then on as much as possible, but once you can enjoy portraying the world or your ideas a certain way you'll enjoy drawing overall. I suggest looking to other artists and really analyzing what makes their style THEIR style, y'know? How do they extenuate the eyes, what kind of atmosphere does their artwork have...questions like that help us get a footing in terms of what kind of stuff is the most enjoyable for us to make. After you've established that, then you can really go wild and try going into territory you haven't yet ventured, whether it was originally because you thought you weren't good enough or because it isn't entirely appealing to you.
Basically what I'm rambling about is to get over this initial obstacle, you basically just need to find what you enjoy. It sounds like you like comic and manga, so obviously start there if its a passion of yours, however I must stress not to get hung up on what you think you "have to" do. If you want to start breaking conventions go ahead. Like I said experiment, but just make sure you know the basic 'rules' before doing so. I find that when I just draw without over-analyzing exactly what I want it to look like I end up having the most fun. That may sound contradictory to everything else I've just written but what I mean is while you should be looking to others for inspiration, don't compare yourself too much to others. If you're the kind of person who really needs to have a structured process in the work that you do, take a blank sheet and paper and set a very arbitrary goal for yourself. For example, I might think to myself "I'm going to try and do some old people in a sort of Will Terrel style" and then just draw and don't look back. Fill up multiple sheets of paper if you'd like. Afterwards you can pick and choose what you think worked and what didn't (that is, aspects of the drawings not the entire drawings themselves - for example if one comes out looking like crap but I like the way I drew the nose, take note of that and then move on.
Self expression can be both the most painful and most rewarding process in the human brain. You already know this, but don't get too hung up on whether or not you're a good artist, or whether or not you've started 'too late'. Keep moving forward.
Ira Glass has a fantastic quote on this phenomena, look up "The Gap by Ira Glass" on UA-cam and he explains it all pretty well, and much more concisely than I ever could haha. Essentially when you begin making art in some medium you aren't familiar with, there is a gap between what you see in your head and what you can make with your hands. It's all about closing that gap with patience and persistence.
Anyway, hope this wasn't too much of a wall of text. Good luck my friend!
Caffeine Swordsman Do you know how many fantastic artists there are that started at your age? I believe even Raphael started late.
Oh god i need sleep... I thought this comment said "i just saw your dildo this morning"
I just realized that the colors I picked for my character before this video go with her personality perfectly...
Subconscious ftw!
Mine is black and white and she has both insanity and sanity characteristic
Same
to quote edna mode "No Capes."
N O C A P E S
"No capes!"
*nO* capes.
No capes! Syndrome should have listened.
Me:I referred to No Capes because of the Wattpad story No Capes
Right now I am designing a character's visual design, so this was very helpful to me. My character is an elf and often wears very muted greens. She is associated with nature and is naïve, so it's funny that you mention green as being a representation of that. Green definitely suits her, because throughout the story she is constantly learning and growing as person. Her experiences are the main focus of the plot.
Jazza, you are the one that inspired me to start drawing! I bought a Wacom and keep training my drawing because of you! Keep up with your videos and never stop! :D
MultiFernando360 Thanks so much for your support!
Jazza, I'm a new Photoshop artist and I've been trying to use your clipping mask process to do a good job in art. However, you know a lot more about the shortcuts and such, and I was wondering if you would do a beginners guide to Photoshop kinda thing. You could show all the keyboard shortcuts, inform what all the tools do and how to use them, etc.
I think there are others that wouldn't mind a video like this. If you're one of those people like this comment to see if he will put in the polls.
Thanks!!
I create many characters with many designs. Some things that help me decide is if it is related to a fandom and the character's parent(s) are a character in the fandom, then you've got a foundation to work on. I do that and it helped reduce the need to pick out some colours.
This is one of my favorite of your videos so far...
Can you do a part 2, with other caracters, like with foreing cultures and periods of history??? that would be awesome!!!! :D
I love adding accessories to characters clothing. I think it's one of the most fun parts of drawing.
Dear Jazza. I am a fashion design student and I always learn a lot of things about design in your Videos! I had been following you before I become a design student, and you always inspired me. thank you!
Too long? Pfft. I would have prefered at least an 1 hour more. :P
Tru
Jazzy you’re a genius! I’ve been hitting my head against a wall trying to figure out how to dress my characters and your method is the one that gave me the breakthrough I needed to move forward. Much appreciation to all the work you’ve put in.
As always Jazza you keep young artists
in the road of drawing with new hope and
new inspiration
I needed a video like this, I've been designing a character for about a week and I was nervous about the costume
This was very concise and to the point actually, definitely not too long! If anything, I would love to see a video going further into colour theory.
GREEN- CHILDISH. LIKE BEAST BOY!!!
stuffpoint.com/teen-titans/image/326740-teen-titans-beastboy-face.png does that look childish to you?
Rosenthal Bros see I hate ppl who take shit like this personal, it simply means green, child character. don't at me.
Vincent Bekong I'm sorry! I wasn't trying to be mean!
Rosenthal Bros wow I feel like a dick
Yeetus Defeetus dude I made this comment 2 years ago. I don't even remember this video.
Awesome work as always Jazza!
Brilliant video Jazza!
I've been looking forward to a video like this for ages!
Your videos and style has been a huge help and inspiration for my development as an illustrator!
Keep up the great work!
Hey Jazza I wanted to thank you, I always loved drawing but because I wasn't motivated enough I haven't drawn in a while, thanks for setting me straight and getting me motivated. (:Keep on doing what you do!
This video is incredibly useful, not just for drawing, but for writing as well, so thank you!
Thank you so much for your time jazza! This was amazing! You helped me out and inspired me so much! It's incredible how much effort and time you put into this kinda videos, but it reeeaally pays off. Seriously, thank you, I didn't draw for a whole month because I was so friggin demotivated, and now I already have my pencil back in my hand :)
You sir, are an amazing human being! Thanks for putting yourself on the Internet :)
I've been drawing on and off since I was like 10... and just recently i bought a wacom tablet... omg I haven't put it down. I draw almost every night now. So thanks Jazza for all the videos. You are an inspiration.. not to mention you're cute as hell.
Thanks a lot Jazza! This was extremely useful in terms of the steps. It's like I knew what I needed to do, but having the steps written out in clarity was very helpful. :)
Oh Jazza, I love that if I search anything about how to draw something, I always find a video of yours.
few bucks coming your way on your store! really brought something out of me that i swore i never had and your ebooks are funny and really pull your tutorial videos together. thank you thank you thank you!
This is basically a more refined way to do what I was already doing, thanks for the tips. I can probably move faster with the structure.
YES new video thanks I have been waiting for a new one. They just keep getting better
This is a really helpful video. I've been trying to look up character designs in terms of outfits for a long time and haven't found many helpful sources. This is a good, detailed process on how to do it. Thanks! :)
I've found your tutorials to be so helpful. Thanks for sharing :-)
Thank you so much for this video. It's so useful! It's clear and easy to understand.
I really need this cause I tend to go out and to the extremes with design and costumes.
super helpful, thank you Jazza!!!
You're a very good teacher. You have a gift.

No capes!!!
"Pink represents femininity" *Imagines picture of huge, masculine man wwith with bulging muscles wearing an opened pink button up shirt to reveal abs.* Yes, indeed very feminine. XD
Dat Peacock lol
he-man?
Did you know that the colors for boys and girls used to be the opposite until the 1940s? Blue was seen as a calm color for little girls and pink, as a lighter form of red, a strong and bold color for boys. This is why we see Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy and several female Disney characters in the early movies wear blue dresses. So the idea that pink is feminine is a rather recent one.
Information, whoo!
Gertrud Bondesson the more you know.
This was really helpful! I find myself always going to the same outfits/clothing design. I'll try this next time I design a character. ❤️
Jazza! Thank you so much man! Thank you so much!
You make colors sound so exciting xD
Awesome. Just what I needed
Thanks jazza this was what I've been waiting for:)
Good topic! Costumes/clothing are something I should probably think of as a character in itself.
love your videos! I've only recently got interested in character design and cartooning and your videos help a lot :)
Gawd.... Your two figures for this video are pretty much my two main characters I draw all the time for my comic drawing :D
this is very helpful!!!! thank you another great video Jazza!!
I love your tutorials, ideas and teachings. Your channel is so high quality and reliable with heaps of depth, than just a step by step. Thanks :)
Tepene Marsden Thanks for watching! I'm not a fan of 'step by step' style teaching since it doesn't explain how to apply principles to your own ideas, so while I do demonstrate steps I hope I'm able to properly convey the principles at work.
And you do that so well, nice to have something a bit more meaty than the standard youtube channel :)
thank you so much jazza, this really helps!
Thank you very much! I'm always struggling with the outfits of my characters. They always look very similar and this tutorial helped me a lot. :)
This video really helped me.Thx Jazza
Great process, both designs are strong! Loved it :)
I don't art very well, but I have noticed that the design process is very useful when I write characters. :) Love watching you draw!

Nice artwork again mr jazza. I really gets inspirations from you.
Green represent peace and calm as well... really cool video mate!
Very helpfull video! Love it!
In art class we also have to follow these steps when we have to a project or an exam (with the exam we do it in the span of a week), the cool thing is that we get marks for all the work we do. The discover/research we do however, is a mix of pictures from the net and pictures we have to take by ourselves. Anyway thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Thanks Jazza, these vids are always helpful. you're figures are getting so much better too, love the subtle but awesome poses
Naaaaw thank you :D
+Draw with Jazza draw a advanced ninja in a robot ninja suit with shuriken stars interlocking to make armor please at least make it a poll

Clorox Bleach i wanna drink you some day......
Awesome Awesome tutorial. Thank you for explaining your thought process in detail and how to come up with an original idea. This was my problem area.
I always design my characters (heroes or villains) based entirely around power practicality and their personality.
What a body builder!!
I love your artstyle
Omg this is so helpful. Thank you :D
Nice video Jazz!
You summarize and give us the most useful information, thank you for make it. :)
I really like your work and expect more tutorials... So thanks and goodbye
I LOVE YOU JAZZA
Amazing!👌
Wow!!! Very nice!
This was really helpful, thank you
Very inspiring video! I also love the intro!
I hope I get better with drawing outfits.
thank you jazza
This video really helped for my comic series
Hi Jazza, I've seen almost all of your video's now. And your drqwing skills has been improved alot. Great work, keep creative!
Bye
Thank you! Kind of you to say, and thanks for supporting my videos :)
Blue represents stability yet the joker who is the most unstable character is wearing blue in the back. Looks like the joker is very contradictive. 😂
Every colour has a positive and negative side. Eg blue also represents the coldness of a character
Joker is also about chaos, I guess breaking the rules of colour too works in the character's favour. I suspect Joker in a white/yellow outfit as opposed to his iconic outfit would work just as well with his character.

Thanks +Draw With Jazza You have inspired me to do more than just female portraits. I believe it's time to expand my skills. . .
I haven't finished watching it but thanks for this tutorial. I love drawing my own superhero characters but can't find the right costume idea. Cheers and Hello from New Zealand!
Thank you this helped me
that was really cool
The clothes of a character are always what gets me stuck, it’s very frustrating xd
Thank you for the tutorial!
Thank you for the awesome job you're doing... I saw the tutorial for arm and leg muscles and made a really awesome Christmas card with a badass Santa..
Damn, these videos are so helpful to me. Here, have one extra subscriber.
