John Malone you might need to replace your ears. With my iPhone 8 Plus with a case on it I can hear him fine. Yes my volume is out up and his audio is not super good but you can still hear him.
The Sonos Move: amzn.to/2w7MS62 has bluetooth because it was designed to be portable. But from my understanding Sonos did not want to have bluetooth as a connection method because they didn't want to compromise streaming sound quality though a bluetooth connection as you move further away from a speaker.
No, it does not need to be hardwired to the internet. You can take it outside just don't leave it in the rain. Sonos does make outdoor speakers now, you can read about them here: www.onehoursmarthome.com/blog/sonos-outdoor-speaker-review

We did! We actually were using a top of the line Rode Mic that went bad, we've since switched to different setup. Thanks for your feedback.
