    I have the Sonos Sub with my Sonos Beam, connected to my television. Agree with your assessment. It's not cheap but the sound quality is superb. It's also one of the most aesthetically pleasing subwoofers you can get! One thing you didn't mention is that while the bass sound it produces is strong, it's also very refined.

    I have a Playbar and spent ages wondering whether to buy the Sub. Eventually I did and I really love it. When I am watching Netflix the room shakes. Also great for music. I think the Playbar adjusts itself when it knows a Sub is connected and its sound becomes clearer as it is not trying to drive low base (it leaves that to the Sub.) But I could be just imagining that.

      Just got my Playbar and even that is blowing my mind. Not a very big soundbar, but the sound is incredible. Crystal clear vocals and very detailed mids. It even handles bass quite well as well (considering the fact that this isn't a big soundbar).

    Your Sonos speaker reviews are pretty good - but without proper audio recording they are lacking the most important quality - how they sound! Please invest in a good microphone and audio mixing. Without it, the sound demo is useless and frustrating.

    • @AcesMR6
      @AcesMR6 4 роки тому +1

      I agree but nothing will ever be nearly as good as in person because it's also how the person is listening, whether it be through crappy tv speakers, phone speakers, etc. Sadly even if you go to a store it's hard to replicate the room/environment you'd put them in, especially if you're getting additional speakers.

    I paired this with 2 Play 1’s in my (large) kitchen. I would say that it isnt mind blowingly different, but it’s a subtle overall rounding out of the sound. The play 1’s sound brighter and more expressive, and the frequency response is very good. It’s also very flat, and not overly boomy, which is good! It’s expensive for what it brings, but you only need one, and I’ve yet to try it with my TV or whatever, and I think for casual listeners you wouldn’t notice an £700 difference.

    Subwoofer frequency is made to be felt, not heard... LOL
    In fairness you should state that all subs are non-directional. It's a good thing to have recognized the need for "night mide" for this sub as it penetrates all solid and permeable materials, including the floor above the grumpy old couple below you. :)
    I play base and had a few hundred (ok, 550) watts going thru a Mesa Boogie two-ten kn top of a self-powered 18. My GF would stand in front of it and state that it made her.. um... "chest" vibrate ;) And her stomach was a bit queasy, as well. Hehe.
    Bass can be your friend or worst enemy, depending upon how, where and when you use it, this looks to be one ok f the simplest, most effective setups I've seen.

    If you setup any sub correctly then it should be non directional, ie. you can't tell where it is located. That is the whole idea or a sub, in a sense, you should feel the sub not hear it. It should disappear into the room. This is not only a capability of the Sonos sub.

  • @OnlineMD
    @OnlineMD 4 роки тому

    Thanks for the video! I purchased a Sonos Beam several months ago. It has worked perfectly: I connect a Samsung 55" TV to it by HDMI-ARC. Though, with Alexa, if I say Alexa turn TV on, it will. But if I say Alexa, turn television on, she says glibly, you do not have such a device. 🤣 Alexa is really quite a dumb blonde: Google is far more informative. I think Alexa needs another decade of schooling! However, Google is often unable to turn the TV off, not sure why. Maybe because Chromecast has a hold on it. And oh, Google does correctly respond to "turn television on." :)
    Anyhow, at this time the Sonos Sub is $800 here in the USA. I surely am *not* spending that. No, the Beam does not have earth-shaking bass, but really, one can enjoy a movie just fine without it. The bass is really quite good for a soundbar. In another room, I have a fairly new LG TV. I decided to spend $800 for a Bose 500 bundle, which is the 500 Soundbar and wireless subwoofer. I am quite satisfied with it. At times I think, heck, I should have spent more to get the 700 bundle but that is $1500. Not worth it for me; besides, that room also has a Pioneer Elite receiver that is about 15 years old, connected to a Jamo surround system. So old that it has a passive subwoofer; nobody sells those anymore! :) But hey, it does a very satisfactory job with Dolby Digital. This is another reason I did not get the Bose 700 system. The new Sonos ARC, about to be released, will put the Playbar to sleep forever. It will have Dolby Atmos, plus eARC HDMI input. It will also have an optical in, but honestly, while optical is great (I use it to connect a DVD player and a Roku to the Pioneer) it is pretty much obsolete after the advent of eARC. Just my tuppence worth :) For those outside the UK, tuppence is the proverbial two pennies! :)

    This should remain as a review like your title shows. Not a “how-to” video on setting it up

    Dude, you need to think this out better. You really need to crank up the dbs if you want to feel the bass. Also, it’s much easier to feel the bass in a car than it is in a house. Why not just say that without bass, you lose 1/3 of the music?

    When will Sonos be updating the playbar to have google and Alexa integration? I have 5 Sonos 1 and a beam at the moment but want the playbar for my living room setup

      Paul Merrick get the base one if you want it quick but there isn’t talk of a new playbar to my knowledge

    The big difference with subs is that they have basically no voice content. Sure you can just turn up the bass with normal speaker woofers but that also makes the voice sound too deep and boomy. We don't want that, we want nice floaty airy voice sound. And the only way to achieve that (and still have bass) is with a sub.

    Hi, can the subwoofer also be positioned with the side part facing the listening position?

    Scared to spend $2,000 on a Sonos setup and have them discountine it in a couple years..

    Great informative and concise review! But I have to say, the matched split grain on the back of the bar insets is subliminally making me hungry for some reason...

    The problem with the stupid sonos system which I have 5 amps latest gen is that you cannot set the crossovers there is no option so when you crank it up what you are hearing is distorsion at a frequency response close to 25 hertz. I rather have a real sub and get down to 13 hertz with a very low THD . Sonos is just good for the rest of the house to create multiple zones otherwise the sound is trash stay away unless you are in need of sevwral zones

    I hope they do a redesign of this sub that is:
    1. Cheaper
    2. No black bit in the middle. I want an all white design. Not this half and half crap.
    3. Smaller maybe.

      whether it's overpriced or not is not a fact, it is opinion. Therefore I'd imagine you are both correct and both incorrect. 🤣 The sub is nice looking and good for some situations - it didn't meet the expectations I had, so I went to BK Elec and got something more capable for the size of main room I have.

    You can definitely tell sonos and Bose market towards people with more money than sense.
    The you can place a subwoofer anywhere in a room is a complete myth. Subwoofers that play at frequencys below 80Hz create peaks and nulls. Peak will be the subwoofer creates a boomy sound thats too much in one place. And a null where the sub provides no bass at all in another place of a room even though the volume is exactly the same.
    Secondly you say if your passionate about your audio you buy this 😂😂.
    Anyone who is truely passionate about music will not own one piece of sonos equipment.
    Dont buy a story. Buy a decent product!! Kef, Bowers and Wilkins, cambridge audio. I have owned sonos and Bose products and fell into the trap. but after being introduced to manufacturers that actually dedicate thier lives to the building of audio equipment you will realise that sonos and Bose are overpriced cheap tosh!!
