    Had a blast driving this thing - that might be obvious from watching. “Wow!” It’s just brutal fun. Honestly I don’t recall being as excited by launching the Demon, more just nervous about spinning tires and making sure I didn’t run into the drag strips barricades. Hope everyone’s having a nice day!

    • @optimusboy1

      If you have a DBW throttle(electric, no cable), then it will just reduce the throttle so that you stop accelerating. Otherwise there will be fuel or spark cut, most likely fuel, lol.

  • @TheSlySleuth
    @TheSlySleuth 6 років тому

    A fact that I was surprised about in physics:
    No matter how wide you make a tire, the coefficient of friction remains the same. This is roughly why you get no extra grip from the Hellcat tires despite them being wider (noting "roughly" because of compound differences). Tires like the Demon's are a softer compound capable of higher temperatures (temperature increases friction), but fall apart at greater speeds. Tires like the Hellcat's are not as soft, but their width allows them to reach a higher temp than say a bicycle tire of the same compound, and they don't fall apart at the extreme speeds that some may experience on track days, or events like the Texas Mile.
    So reiterating what was said in the video,
    Demon tires: Purposely designed and intended for 1/4 mile events
    Hellcat tires: Most likely better for high speed tracks and drag events over 1/4 mi.

    Great explaining on the speed limiting. I recall the days of hacking my 1991 camaro where it had a 110mph fuel cut speed limiter. It wasn't a problem with an old 305 TBI but an engine swap to 330hp and I had to make some changes to the EPROM :)
    I also am recalling having a little switch to go between different "programs" in a large EPROM so I had a "valet" mode that limited the speed to 30mph lol.

      HomeAutomationX, I just heard of a new trick to increase the performance of your Prius... Find the main connections to the hybrid system battery, then with soaking wet hands, vigorously rub both the positive and negative terminals at the same time, one with each hand, press HARD. The electro-dermic reaction between your wet palms and the battery terminals provide you with a most shocking performance increase! 😉

    Hey, EE,
    could you PLEASE explain why traction depends on the width (or surface area) of the tyre. Because in physics traction does not depend from the surface area. Hope you understood my question :D

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  6 років тому +18

      Tomas Grikenis I have a video on this! :) Search my channel for “tire load sensitivity.”

    • @Anonymous12465
      @Anonymous12465 6 років тому +8

      It depends on coefficient of friction and normal force. That frictional coefficient is determined by the energy lost to heat when two surfaces come in to contact. In the simple math, SA aint a thing, but really, if you drag a 1 inch thick tire on the ground, it wont take any effort, but a 12 inch wide tire will make a hell of a difference. More contact area between the surfaces yeilds a higher coefficient of friction between the two objects' surfaces

    • @Yathuprem
      @Yathuprem 6 років тому +2

      Tomas Grikenis traction came from friction, larger the surface area more the friticion so larger the traction..
      Frictional force=normal pressure*area*coeff of friction

    • @HuntingTarg
      @HuntingTarg 6 років тому +2

      If you want to get down to it, traction does depend on area. The coefficient of friction is derived from an object's "degree of molecular electrostatic interaction", or 'grip'. There's a lot of factors that goes into this, but one of the main ones is the number of valence electrons that actually interact with something touching the object surface. This is one of the reasons that tire compound formulation is so important.
      the other aspect is purely physical, and that is that the surface area of the tire tread is Distributing the vehicle's weight, and downforce (during acceleration), onto the pavement. It's a combination of weight, downforce If the tire's acceleration torque exceeds the combination of weight, downforce, and the tire's static coefficient of friction, that's when you get tire spin/slide.

  • @Carlos1987rgzz

      All objects fall at the same rate g, or 9.8 m/s, ignoring air resistance. Galileo discovered this in the 16th century. If air resistance is taken into account, drag force is directly proportional to reference area as per the equation Fd = (1/2)ρ(u^2)CdA. A piano has a relatively large surface area and thus produces a large amount of drag. Therefore, your analogy is not as meaningful as it would have been if you instead used an object with a smaller surface area such as a thumbtack.

    • @readou1949
      @readou1949 6 років тому

      Adam Rozman I piano falling off a cliff is still pretty dang fast

    • @brodofaggins6078
      @brodofaggins6078 6 років тому +1

      Adam Rozman good point, but isn't it really about weight to drag ratio? The piano has a lot more drag, but it won't make a huge difference, since is so heavy. The weight of course doesn't make it fall faster, but it lessens the impact of air resistance. A thumb tack has little air resistance, but hardly any weight, so I think it might fall slower than a piano. A marble would fall faster, or even better, a larger steel ball.
