Actually there is pretty much no difference in transmission losses between gears over the range of ratios most cars use. The myth that 1:1 is better came from older manual transmissions where the 1:1 gear wasn't a gear at all. A sleeve simply connected the input and output shafts in that "gear". Thus there were no gear mesh losses. But when you have teeth meshing, whether its in a 1:1, 1.3:1 or 0.8:1 gear the losses are pretty much the same. I'm not sure.. This one you don't have to swap the PCM so I did think that was strange. 6th gear is a really long pull so there was some sort of fail safe built into the tune and the computer cut it short for some reason

Incredible! Maybe this is outdated information, but I'd always heard for autos it was ~18% loss (and for manuals ~13% loss), even taking the lowest number measured there (858.2, which is clearly lower than achievable), that puts it at 858.2/(1 - 0.18) = ~1,047 RWHP. For the higher measured number (885.6), we get ~1080 RWHP, and for the extrapolated number (~896), that would be ~1093 RWHP. Fantastic numbers, regardless of which you choose. (BTW, if we assume only 15% loss, then the numbers are 1,010 RWHP, 1,042 RWHP, and 1,054 RWHP, respectively...still incredible!)
It’s around 12% for a hellcat. Most stock put down right at 620whp and are rated at 707 crank from the factory. Same drivetrain loss in this would equal 903 or within 1% of the 896 you mentioned. So I’d say the 1025 is pretty dead on.
My friend at a dealer during training was told that in the 1320's super stocks and demon 170 were limited due to the tire speed rating of the factory tires and is close to trap mph and rpm. Can remove the governor in the tune and get rid of it.
That whine is music to my ears. I hope you drove up and down the highway breaking in that beast. I'm sure you were getting a lot of attention and people were rushing over to take pics haha. Savor every moment! Such a bada$$ car 👏
885 is spot on with adjusted 15% (155Hp)power trane loss, corrected is 1071 RWHP Also, there is a sensor in the independent rear wheel Differential to keep the slippage from happening . If the rear end starts to slip to the tires, the computer will kick it off while in manual shifting with the paddles. I have this also on my 2014 Durango.
Can you make a detailed video on the differences between a regular hellcat and the demon 170? Like what exactly is done to make it an 8.9 car because I don’t see 900rwhp hellcats and red eyes running into the 8s. I assume it’s suspension but what exactly is different for those wanting to upgrade their hellcats and red eyes
The Demon has a lot more going on than a redeye does. Suspension .. drivetrain .. advanced trans brake .. it’s lighter than a redeye .. wheel setup .. bigger blower which produces less heat .. better chiller .. bigger inter cooler .. torque reserve is higher
@@Dad_dyflex-dx1quit can run 8.9 in perfect weather perfect da perfect launch all the stars line up etc. Most will prob be low to mid 9s in stock form depending what the conditions are.
It's dropping off in 6th, because like the original Demon, they are sold with street legal drag radials, which have l lower top speed rating. It's a liability issue. I knew it had to make more crank power. I increased the boost on my cat to 14psi, the E85 conversion, 850rwhp. Less parasitic loss, I have the tremec. Fun AF to drive
I have to dyno newer mustangs in 5th gear instead of 7th because of this sort of thing as well. They soft limit at 140MPH, which is in the 6200-6500 range in 7th, rather than getting up to the 8k that they love.
This truly is an amazing car dodge put out for 110k u have 900hp to the wheels and with a warranty too!! It’s a shame not to many people will race these
I put my stock 1992 Geo Metro on the dyno and found out it has 978 hp. That little car really moves, and now I know why. It's just a matter of believing in what you have and that good things happen in this world. God knew I wanted a fast car. I have beat several Tesla Plaids in Metro all the way to 170 mph by 5 car lengths.
This car is just impressive all the way around. Could you put up the numbers from your Charger for comparison? Can't wait to hear your thoughts after the first couple of runs down the strip. :)
It makes you wonder if Dodge got their numbers using those tires or did they use different tires. Like the guy said put harder tires instead of sticky tires you would get different numbers.
Modern transmissions and final drives have become fairly efficient lately, so 890 down to the roller with 1025 on crank does not seem off to me. That is still over 100hp in loss, which manifest as heat that needs to go somewhere, half of it through the tires which can dissipate it through windage (air-cooling) and the rest in the drive train, where as most of the drivtrain component of that loss is in the 90° final drive. If in doubt just point a FLIR-camera at the drive train components and measure delta-T from start of pull to end, acount for metal mass, and se if the math adds up ;)
I would love to see a race between your twin turbo Mustang and the Demon 170. I’m assuming you had the same guy tune the Mustang? What numbers did the Mustang put up on the dyno? I’d love to know those numbers and see a race! Great channel RacerX!! 👍
I saw in one of the YT vids that was talking about the Demon 170 Top Speed (potential?) lawsuit, that Dodge limits the Demon 170 to 149 MPH because of the V speed rating of those tires (from the factory). The statement from Dodge seemed to indicate that the system would allow the Demon 170 to exceed 149 briefly before kicking in the limiter. It also said that the Demon 170 is MEANT to be a 1/4 car and NOT a "Texas Mile" top speed car. In other words, focus is on quick (0-60 in 1.66 seconds), not so much on fast top speed. I think that same video mentioned that the Hellcat Redeye top speed is actually about 203, but it is nowhere near as quick off the line as the Demon 170. To sum it all up, the fact that it seems to be cutting off at 149/150 MPH in 6th gear is almost certainly due to the very thing Dodge was talking about in the other video. FWIW, I cab probably track down the other video if someone really wants me to. This is the video I am referring to: ua-cam.com/video/Xg6vzpAZGMU/v-deo.html
Great Video, Very informative and interesting content. It sounds to me like you will have a lot of fun with this beast at the track. Enjoy it and we will definitely enjoy your videos.
Did you run in "Drag Mode"? I believe the manual states it does not want you going over 149 unless you are drag racing. Maybe they limited the car to 149 unless you are in Drag Mode?
That car is the real deal. Can’t wait to see it go up against the Plaid. The AWD of the Plaid makes it more consistent but the big Dodge will give it a run for its money if the track prep is right.
Looks great wish list haha, off topic but I just got my Redeye 797hp and I’m just learning and in the SRT it’s saying 597 am I doing something wrong? So I knew I had to ask you for advice. Thanks
Just for fun, did you do any tests in STD instead of SAE? Or can you simply convert it in the results with a dyno jet? My guess it would be around 970whp in STD. I own an older Mustang Dyno so I only can only use SAE correction. Just curious, I seem to disappoint a lot of people that have a dynojet sheet from somewhere else that is in STD correction.

I can't conceive you have twice the horsepower as my T/A 6.4. At 69, your 170 would probably give me a heart attack. Again, very happy for you and your sharing of your 170. I want more videos.
Wow. Congratulations. I am so happy for you. Armando from Texas!!!!
bow down to the Demon 170 !! Great numbers sir !
That’s awesome. Once you make a few passes at the drag strip, I would like your thoughts on the Demon vs your previous 1,000 hp hellcat 😁.
For sure.. I think this will be the faster car
@@RacerX9 if its an automatic how did he keep it in 5th gear on his first run and then put it in 6th gear in his second run?
You just paddle shift it manually
@@RacerX9 its an auto with paddle shifters that you can manually shift? I never had paddle shifters. Thanks
i love the joy in ur voice...u r so blessed...love ur car...stay safe
I can't wait to see everybody starting to set records with this car and then you beating them. That will be great entertainment. Great video as always thanks Racer X
An G80 M3 recently broke its record, actually.
Unreal! Congrats, X! I think the PCM is speed limited to 150mph by design (as on the 1320). You'll likely never see the car trap above 150, but it might get close and it would be nice to have a bit of cushion. (PS please fix the weatherstrip center of the opening where it meets the headliner, thanks)
A couple 170s have already gone 151mph. The one that ran 8.89 went over 150.
Ron Silva’s 8.9 second pass was 150mph and change.
The 1320 scat isn't limited to 150. I know there is a destroyer grey 19, sitting in my driveway. Governor is set at 170.
@@karlhopkins713I’ve been to 171 in a 392
Excellent! What an amazing car. I think many of us agree we are glad you are sharing this with us.
Racer X
Thank you for 170 content, brother!
I am extremely happy that you were able to get this car!!
I have the same Tor Red with black trunk, hood, and rear deck lid! I love the colors, and the car is amazing!
I should have asked you for your help to get one at MSRP!
I am extremely saddened and disappointed that all the dealerships in Arizona were greedy Scumbags and Marked up the allocations to 125k to 150k over MSRP!!
maybe some day?? I have 1-Hellcat Durango
1-TRX
1-HELLCAT Redeye
I have always been a part of the Dodge brotherhood 💯 % until now! I feel that Dodge has really dropped the ball on the true brotherhood members!! The dealerships are lowlifes and screwed every person who they could!
I tried hard, I actually had 3 allocations in my name and they all got back to me to jack up the price. I never had a signature and down payment, yet? But they all 3 called me back and with bad news, it was 125k to 150k over MSRP!!
I Am Super happy for you Brother!! God bless you and your new car!!
I’m over these dealers being shady .. terrible business practices
Awesome!! Love it!! Mopar Rules!! Miss my 2018 challenger hellcat which I sold last year for what I almost paid for it.
I’d call that 1100hp.. Amazing!!
this is exciting forsho. keep dropping bangers🔥🔥🔥
I’m 63 and a gear head. In the 80’s one of my best cars was a 1972 Lincoln Town Coupe. Had a built 460. It did low Ten’s in the Quarter mile. Loved her.As a street racer with that type of car weighing that much racers were intimidated. What is sad is that I was coming back from Detroit from a night of racing on I696 and was on the expressway and hit 6 deer. The car was totaled. She was beautiful. Had other cars before and after her. My 1972 Torino had a built by Holbrook Enterprises. Now my last hoorah in life is a 1957 300 Custom that will have approximately 2100hp. Looking forward to racing HellCats and others. Just be safe out there
Love it, wow very impressive! Can't wait to see when you get it on the track! 💯
First dyno video I've seen of the 170 !
The demon 170 is the megalodon of the Mopar Family. NICE CAR💪🏿
Dude, 1054 crank is more than Dodge stated. Now you can mod it! Pretty neat that Bradley got his Demon recently too. Quite surprised it came black. I dont remember him saying that that was the color he had gotten. Congrats X!
Over 1000hp and the first thing ppl say is " now you can mod it" NO! It was designed to handle this power level. Leave it the hell ALONE!!
@@charlesmyers9765 He can make his own choices. But the mods I consider is a pulley swap and retune. Because the pulley is sized based on the limits of 93. Plus Im sure the thing can handle another 200. Im not suggesting body cutting and suspension mods. But maybe i shouldve said tuning.
The og had a speed limiter until you swapped the PCM. Wasn’t expecting a speed limiter on this one.. is it tied to the fuel maybe?
I'm not sure.. This one you don't have to swap the PCM so I did think that was strange. 6th gear is a really long pull so there was some sort of fail safe built into the tune and the computer cut it short for some reason
@@RacerX9 did you have it in drag racing mode or anything? I think you’re right and there is some kind of protection mechanism. Would be interested in hearing from Dodge on that one. I’ve seen vehicles in the past that needed to be in a special mode to Dyno so it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see it on something like this. 🤔
@@S8ERits the top speed limiter man it's due to the speed rating on the tire.
I run 325/50/15 et street r on my 07 gt500 they're drag radials and according to what I've seen they have. 186 mph speed rating not sure why the speed rating on the drag radials this car has is so much lower I'm not sure what kind of drag radials this car comes with. If it really is less maybe he should roll with an et street r.
Interesting…Do a dyno run when in the spring & summer months
Again, it's good to under rate so customers won't be disappointed! Great video.
Making a couple assumptions based on Dodge's claims. To run 8.91 ET in a car that weighs 4275lbs you need 1195 hp at the crank. Thoughts?
Very interesting, & your friend is very knowledgeable & professional with his dyno specs, need to keep this place in mine, being down the I-4 corridor from me, but Gr8 video!!!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁

Yea it used to be 18 for auto, and 15 for manual. But now days it’s I hear it’s like 15 for auto, and 12 manual.
It’s around 12% for a hellcat. Most stock put down right at 620whp and are rated at 707 crank from the factory.
Same drivetrain loss in this would equal 903 or within 1% of the 896 you mentioned. So I’d say the 1025 is pretty dead on.
Forgot to mention, I’m specifically talking about the auto hellcat non redeye. Not M6. M6 cats put down closer to 635-640whp
@@PitManenuverwho's to say they make exactly 707 at the flywheel?
incredible Paul!!! wowsers a stock machine making this!!!! brother was you on E85? or 93?
It was on E.. thanks Todd
Glad to find your channel. I met you at the dealership, I have the ZL1. Great dyno run.
Thanks buddy.. I was great to meet you 👍
My friend at a dealer during training was told that in the 1320's super stocks and demon 170 were limited due to the tire speed rating of the factory tires and is close to trap mph and rpm. Can remove the governor in the tune and get rid of it.
When you started driving a Mustang, I quit following you. Now, seeing this... I resubscribed.
Enjoyed the video.
I wonder if with the traction control off the car is speed limited to 150 . They really don't want people to see what the car can do.
Wow! This car is insane! Great video and thanks for doing this! 👍👍
Thanks buddy
That supercharger wine is just too satisfying. Yeah if see that in my rear view I’m getting out of the way no questions asked.
Would a hub dyno not be better to use here?
That whine is music to my ears. I hope you drove up and down the highway breaking in that beast. I'm sure you were getting a lot of attention and people were rushing over to take pics haha. Savor every moment! Such a bada$$ car 👏
Man Drag times is in Ttttrouble🤣🤣🤣that testla plaid is toast!! Congrats Brother!!
Nope ua-cam.com/video/EEU1nmvb3pA/v-deo.html
885 is spot on with adjusted 15% (155Hp)power trane loss, corrected is 1071 RWHP Also, there is a sensor in the independent rear wheel Differential to keep the slippage from happening . If the rear end starts to slip to the tires, the computer will kick it off while in manual shifting with the paddles. I have this also on my 2014 Durango.
Great video, Congrats on getting this beast!
Props for no dumb yellow shipping protectors.
Don’t be a broke-@ss hater.
Agreed . Seeing those left on the hellcats is laughable .
Brother there is no way it runs 8’s on the best of days own a base hellcat that’s a 2016 and love mopar but these dodge guys are really doing tj much
@@Dad_dyflex-dx1quit can run 8.9 in perfect weather perfect da perfect launch all the stars line up etc.
I can see that demon puts a smile on your face awesome numbers congratulations on a awesome ride
I’ve never put my challenger on a Dyno but I can tell dodge has been putting these numbers low 👍🏻
Congrats! Enjoy the ride.
The plaid taillights are waiting for you 😉
We will see tomorrow
They didn't pull a boost pressure or a/f ratio? Those would have been interesting to see.
That TQ curve looks good.
This truly is an amazing car dodge put out for 110k u have 900hp to the wheels and with a warranty too!! It’s a shame not to many people will race these
Very impressive numbers RacerX. Such a bad ass car!
Pass it Bogart
Love the content RacerX Thank you!
Thank you my friend
This car is just impressive all the way around. Could you put up the numbers from your Charger for comparison? Can't wait to hear your thoughts after the first couple of runs down the strip. :)
I wonder if the TCS system shuts it down to avoid destroying the soeed rated tires during burn out since the fronts arent moving.🤔
It makes you wonder if Dodge got their numbers using those tires or did they use different tires. Like the guy said put harder tires instead of sticky tires you would get different numbers.
Dodge got their numbers using an engine dyno .. which means there was no drive train connected
The Mustang but down basically the same numbers on 12.5 PSI 👍
@@RacerX9 Love your channel and God Bless MamaX!! 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 ❤️ ♥️ 💜

Just finished the other video and this one pops up 😂😂. Nice!
Was this on the full E85 or pump 93?
Congratulations again RacerX!
Now that you have raced brooks you should get it tuned both ecu and tcu with stock blower belt to the claimed hp and race brooks again
been waiting for this for a while man only gonna be watching you for a demon 170 can’t wait to see you at the strip after a full break in!
As always, congratulations. Great content
Pretty spot on. Dodge (and every manufacturer) certifies at full operating temps and it’s likely about 12% drivetrain loss.
Numbers are strange things.
I just corrected my 1.5 Honda Fit.
It makes 500 hp after correction for
Slippage and computer error.
Also I’ll say this - seeing Racer-X back in a high horsepower Dodge is like seeing a grande reunion. They were made for each other.
Looks great wish list haha, off topic but I just got my Redeye 797hp and I’m just learning and in the SRT it’s saying 597 am I doing something wrong? So I knew I had to ask you for advice. Thanks
Great 'Bragging Rites' vehicle.
What's it actually E.T. ?
Wow thats impressive...the guy doing the dyno is absolutely knowledgeable....great video as always 🔥
Awesome ride, but what cut out? Does it have a rev limiter? Thanks, just curious.
Very cool car and it's great that Dodge decided to unleash it!
Too bad it is SO expensive and SO heavy.
Racer X, pretty impressive. Let me know if you plan on going agian. I will let you use my WB street tires for a couple of pulls to see if that number improves. I am local!!
wow.. this gonna be some sick content folks.. some very nice numbers! 👊🏼💯
