It’s time for an almighty USA vs Germany drag race!
Mat’s in the absolutely huge Dodge Challenge Demon, and he’s lining up against Yianni in the Porsche 911 Turbo S!
When you compare them on paper, it looks like the Dodge has it in the bag. With a humungous 6.2-litre supercharged V8 under its massive bonnet, the Challenge Demon can put down 808hp and 972Nm! As a result, it seemingly dwarfs the 911 Turbo S, which has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six, which can produce 650hp & 800Nm.
But of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve driven a Porsche 911 Turbo S on this channel, and we know you’re pretty much guaranteed a 1/4 mile time of less than 10.5 seconds!
So how do you think this will play out? Will the Dodge be able to put its power down? Or is the Porsche set to grab another victory?

was so nice to actually understand how fast they were going for once.
It's because Chrysler only makes the Challenger in LHD, so it's probably a model from Germany with the language switched to English or something. The Turbo S is RHD British-spec, which means they use mph even though they use the metric system for everything else.

The dude is a sorry ass driver. Give me a couple days to figure out how the Demon runs and handles. Horseshoe with prep conditions put some Mickey Thompson’s on and heat them that demon is 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds and can run a quarter mile in low 9’s get the Hell out of here. I don’t want to disrespect the guy in the Charger but get out of the car and let someone who knows how to race a car of that stature!

It's a factory built track car. they even made you sign a release at the dealership stating you will never drive this on the streets. It requires an experienced driver to manage the trans brake and shifting. This driver has clearly never driven a car like this

What we’ve learned is that AWD beats RWD almost every time. There really does come a point where adding more HP and torque to the rear wheels only results in cooler burnouts.

It's more nuanced than that though. Weight distribution also helps quite a bit, even RWD 911s would have done pretty decently racing in these conditions, in my opinion.

The audacity for dodge to say that the demon can outrun anything on the planet.
Because they were spinning the tires for half of the race and weren’t driving it how you drive a car like that in a race. On top of that, it has a limiter. If they didn’t floor the pedal the entire race and it was prepped, it would have easily smoked the Porsche. Just like in any other drag race, you can’t just floor the pedal in a High HP car. Shit, the new demons have over 1000 HP and a 0-60 of 1.6. Don’t get me wrong, in a track race, or in a street race, sure, the Porsche is more agile and can handle its speed better, but just like every other person here say the demon has nothing on the Porsche? It’s because the demon was run in the worse way possible, giving the Porsche every advantage. Even if you look aside from the fact the track wasn’t prepped Ed, the car, etc, they still floored the thing so it would just spin it’s tires and get no traction. That alone would have killed it, if it were for the limiter and all the other things keeping the demon back. The Porsche is more likely to break down before it would beat the demon in an actual drag race… issue is the demon would have already broken down 200,000 miles ago… fucking dodge sucks ass.

@Yeah Right the Demon has the aerodynamic coefficient of a brick and the launch system is flakier that my great-grandfather's scalp. Demon fanboys think power and torque is the solution to everything. no amount of power can outdo the research and development Porsche is known for.
@Yeah Right Love the different opinion! both cars are phenomenal feats of engineering for sure (and I'd happily accept either one if given to me :) ). You can search for these two racing at a drag strip...there are several videos out there showing exactly this. All of the races I have seen are very close and could go either way depending on who gets the better launch. As for the price...the v6 pentastar is the only one reasonably within my reach though. Still pretty amazing that this "German vacuum cleaner" can launch so hard and go so fast 9/10x no matter what the surface or conditions are. Cheers!

Even the GT2RS puts its power down well despite being rear wheel drive,It launches as smoothly as any all wheel drive car

I had a Panamera 4S and misjudged a turn on a offramp in California. It was a very sharp turn and Id exited the hwy doiing 80 and was all of a sudden in a 40 mph turn. I just whipped the wheel to the right and that thing stuck that turn like a champ. Porsche has the best suspension Ive ever experienced first hand. Had I been in any other car Id wrecked. Unfortunately, high premiums and having just 400 Hp in a 2010 just wasnt fast enough anymore for me and I sold it.
I feel like the Dodge Challenger Demon is a metaphor for my country: so much power, and we're just spinning our wheels.

As an American, we don't claim the dodge demon lol. That car was a total flop. Owners considered suing dodge because it wasn't even CLOSE to how quick they advertised. It's a low to mid 10 second car factory stock, needs mods to run any faster

This is the same Porsche that destroys Godzilla (nissan GTR), so the dodge with its rear-wheel drive and poor traction had no chance in this race. The dodge is simply too slow. even in the rolling race it got destroyed.
Without 32 valves and fancy brake settings my 2018 Camaro SS 1LE just DOES IT. It has a race menu but Stabilitrac is WAYYY better than Dodge "Super Bee" which I used to beat BEFORE I upped the power from 455 to 515. Stage 1 upgrade. I added the H/D valve springs so I dont drop a valve into the 75 yr old LT1

The challenger reminds me of the plastic tricycle called the Big Wheel designed to slide the reals wheels around and spin the front wheel. It isn’t really meant for racing just for showing.
That challenger is a perfect example of just lots of power but no way to put it down. Something that Porsche has mastered.

The should focus on their traction control and launch control system. Ive seen more powerful cars put down their power well with little to no wheelspin

Everyone seems to forget the Porsche was AWD. That makes a huge difference in off the line traction. Do same but with a model that is RWD.
any front engine RWD high power to weight car will struggle at launching on casual roads with road tires. But once you are on a dragstrip with radials things will start to change a little bit. 😂
