Like with many other things, it's full of hype simply because it's rare and you feel better about yourself/cool for having one. Anyone who likes the look could get something similar for a way better price
I agree from a looks perspective and that many who own this plant only purchase it to say they have it. However, I think some of the interest is also around the history and preservation of the plant. It's not always about looks! The obliqua at one point was dangerously rare to the point where it could have gone extinct. So for some collectors who really love plants, I think they may appreciate this background and want to propagate and sell to others to ensure the plant is available going forward for those who like it to enjoy! And that seems to be happening which is great.
It's not about looks, it's simply about rarity. It's when plants stops being something beautiful to look at, and instead becomes an obsession. It's the same as people who have 500 plants in their private collection and they can't even remember why they bought half of them.
I feel like at these price points, it just becomes a matter of how rare the plant is, and much less about how good the plant looks. I mean, I get it if you're a professional plantsman who collects specific species, but if you're just a private collector why would you spend a 1000 euro on a plant you can't even look at because it's going to be standing on a foggy inclosure all day?
Maybe I’m a weirdo but I couldn’t imagine selling a cutting that wasn’t at least starting to put out a root. I’ve sold some Hoya cuttings and I only sold one fresh because I wouldn’t let that person pay me for more than shipping and a little extra. I think I would have to have some nodes sitting inside a prop box for a while lol. Plant selling clearly isn’t for me haha I just want everyone to have healthy plants they love
Same. I’m also told that I’m selling my plants too cheap. But I just feel bad because I know how it feels to fall in love with a plant and not even being able to afford a one leaf cutting.
Idk IMO it’s not bad/unfortunate that the market value of plants goes down. Like obviously personally if you’ve made a big investment it’s a bummer but it’s a good thing that plants are more accessible for everyone

that's market manipulation, but hard to do when the market is made up of many smaller sellers versus a few big ones. the groups that value more access to plants versus artificial high prices will allow sales, they will grow, and prices will continue to drop for most common "rare" plants because they're not rare lol, it's just hype. the real rare bois will always be $$ but too many people have gotten comfortable price jacking for non-rare plants, the come down is going to be painful for some.

I'm screaming at the obliqua segment. I've had a runner I bought back in January that JUST NOW gave a leaf, after 6 months of being a wet stick with more runners and nearly rotting away the root twice. Regarding var adansonii, this may be different in the UK vs the US. It's still highly popular here and I just sold a lovely specimen in an auction for over 4 digits. Curious to know if it's a regional thing!
Obliqua is literally anywhere now just wait half year or more the price would go down further… but adansonii variegated is different imo especially those with nice variegation like half moon, their price would still hanging on for a while. However really surprised to heard Kaylee saying joepii price will be stronger than obliqua but it’s very true that the form of joepii is not sexy to everyone while many people are obsessed with obliqua’s fenestration
It’s 4am from where I’m from right now and I can’t get enough of these videos! Currently in asia philodendron NOID sp. colombia is what’s selling. Curious if it will make it to the list!
seriously, what is up with obliqua sellers and all this crying about their prices going down. Even Kaylee calls it a "shame" that prices are going down, lol. how the hell does the plant being more affordable make it less iconic?
Because they care more about exclusivity and being able to post/show off their collections that nobody else can have than they care about the plants themselves. It’s all about ego for some people and THAT’S the real shame
naw, you can get many plants pretty cheap and they are worthy of appreciation. what you're looking at is the market for collectors. like any other kind of collector, they're going to be more interested in the rarity and exceptionalism as well as monetary worth.
@@fionazelmann7541 that is true. I just see so many videos on UA-cam about houseplants that only focus or "fancy" or "rare" plants, and not on common houseplants.

Hi there! I am a massive fan your content Kaylee, and I love the videos on plant investment. HOWEVER, being in the process of figuring out how to make a living myself off of plants, I am really confused when it comes to the legal aspect of all this here. Therefore, I hope Kaylee or somebody experienced in the community can help me out!? Would be so much appreciated. As far as I understand, many plants on the European market are protected. And I dont mean naturally protected but protected in terms of patented. So, all over Europe it is pretty much illegal to buy a plant and just sell propagations of them, unless you pay license fees to whoever grower owns the rights. Does anybody have any details on that? Are all these plants shown just unprotected or is it different in the UK due to Brexit? I would also be happy to discuss this outside the comment section. Again, I would be beyond grateful for any information in that. Much love, Dan

It’s 4am from where I’m from right now and I can’t get enough of these videos! Currently in asia philodendron NOID sp. colombia is what’s selling. Curious if it will make it to the list!
The Poison Ivy visuals!! Love this
For me to spend more than 100 on a plant, it would need to be immortal and have each seperate leaf be a beautiful pastel colour!
seriously, what is up with obliqua sellers and all this crying about their prices going down. Even Kaylee calls it a "shame" that prices are going down, lol. how the hell does the plant being more affordable make it less iconic?
Because scarcity and hipster douchebaggery inevitably permeates every hobby/activity eventually
Because they care more about exclusivity and being able to post/show off their collections that nobody else can have than they care about the plants themselves. It’s all about ego for some people and THAT’S the real shame
Because if you sell something... then it sucks when you get less money for it. It's great for buyers but sellers will have to get used to less profit.
Thanks to you. I have step my game on plants and get out easy plants to get into uncommon plants.
Monstera adansonii variegata is still going for $1-2k here in the US. Which is insane bc they’re so saturated in the market here.
A video on plants that do really well vs don't do well in leca would be great
Sigh, the variegated Adansonii is C$1500 for one leaf in Canada now. Wait until I can afford one...
Silly me. I bought a variegated adansonii, and I think I paid a little too much :(
Hi. What type of light did you used? And how far you installed them? thanks in advanced.
It sure would be helpful if your editing staff would list the plants that you are talking about on all your videos.
The houseplant market is no longer about appreciating plants but who can get the most "different" and "unique" plant.
Which is sad.
naw, you can get many plants pretty cheap and they are worthy of appreciation. what you're looking at is the market for collectors. like any other kind of collector, they're going to be more interested in the rarity and exceptionalism as well as monetary worth.
@@fionazelmann7541 that is true. I just see so many videos on UA-cam about houseplants that only focus or "fancy" or "rare" plants, and not on common houseplants.
Could you talk about alocasias/colocasias, the big ones like elephant ear or to be specific I would love if you could bring up the Macrorrhiza
Loving these vids! Can’t wait to see some hoyas again 🥺
Good, so we can expect the prices of full obliqua peru plants to go back up once people who thought they were going to make a quick buck buying a single node off a runner realize that it ain’t so easy to prop after all.
Prices for M. obliqua Peruvian form have tumbled down over the past 2-3 months in the US. I’ve literally seen, an Obliqua comparable to the one shown in this video, for $400 in a FB Plant BST group. It’s mind boggling
Love your videos/plants so much 💚💚💚💚
Thx for the advice to the M. Obliqua P.!!! ♡
Joepii tc already in Thailand market. So, yeah
I think the price still high in etsy they have it for 1000 just a node or cutting
Wanna see that top shelf, final destination plant video. Please make it happen😁
I would love to hear your opinion on philodendron pink princess
Meanwhile in Australia, veriagated
Adansonii 1 leaf for $1000
I feel so weird... In poland variegated monstera adansonii is about 2k euro
Would love to hear your opinions on the pink princess philodendron 🌱
I have to say always GREAT VIDEOS!! And, i NEED to ask where you get/what are those prop pots called you use?!? With the water thingy.. lol.. the Obliqua Peru was in..
Adansonii variegated is already down? I just bought 1 leaf 1 inch size for 350$ that’s expensive to me
didnt even know that there are plats so expensive, the most expensive i got was like 15€ with around 1m hight and a 3cm thick stem :o
Can you make an Obliqua care video?
Going to keep waiting and saving up to buy all these plants on the cheap. Haha
You are so Awesome! Thank you, love your videos!
Hi! Can someone tell me what these lil tube things are inside the pots? I've looked and cannot figure it out. Thanks ♥️
Self watering level indicators methinks…
Where do you get your shelves?
