Can’t sleep so bingeing old school Kaylee Ellen videos at 3am... then I see that she’s release her new video! 🙌🏼 ✨🪴 I knew there was a reason I was awake! 😆
Yes I'd like to see "plant flipper" stories. Great info! Love the elder man in the video...wondering Kelly's dad 🤔 One warning about PayPal. I bought a plant on mercari (eBay/Etsy type)The seller wanted refund via PayPal instead of the store plat form. I was naive plus overwhelmed with holidays. Stupid of me, I accepted. He processed as good/service which cost me $1.98 transaction fee. Few weeks later, he disputed the refund, claiming he didn't get goods from me. I sent many emails with supporting documents that was "refund, no good involved, therefore no tracking#" to PayPal, tried to speak someone for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, PayPal said "we decided to go with buyers favor due to no tracking#. We are charging you dispute fee $15 and credit transaction fee $1.98" Principle matters to me a lot, so I have decided to close PayPal account due to poor service, they didn't even read my emails and ignored call-back requests. Anyway, my 2cents: stick with the same platform for refund/partial refund etc. If Etsy, get refund through Etsy. I'm embarrassed to tell my bad mistake, but hope someone feels my mistake helpful.
I can share a few signs. If the plant looks battered or there are very few leaves. During the acclimation process, some new pretty leaves should have grown. Also if they won't offer you a pic of the specific plant just a general or stock photo. Hope that helps in the meantime.
In the US an import permit is not required for under 12 plants BUT, it’s still a good idea to get an import permit so customs knows it’s coming, it can help move the process quicker once it reaches customs. I cannot wait to point my plant friends who are have begun to think about importing, I always try and share my own knowledge but this will make it so much easier. Thank you! Also yes, the other videos you mentioned, do them, I especially love this sort of content to share
Hey, do you mind to share how to obtain an import permit? Think about to get one too. Used to import less than 10 plants/ shipping but my plants is always stuck in customs for few days to a week. it's just time consuming as when my plants arrived it's normally in very bad conditions or half dead.
I just bought my fiance a pink princess from our local plant shop. The owner was so excited to sell it to me and it looks perfect, was such a good price too. Feel so lucky.
I've just got to give you props. Your content is always grade A. All your videos are educational, well researched, and visually pleasing. I really appreciate all of the work you put into your content and can't wait to be lucky enough to order from your shop 👏🏻👏🏻💚
Yess! This 👏is👏what👏plant👏people👏need 👏to👏hear! I've recently been trying to get people to understand that they need to register to issue PPs even as a hobbyist!
Please make a video on how to tell if a plant was flipped! This was amazing and so informative thank you for making such a quality in depth video!! I tried to research some of these topics a few weeks ago by myself and struggled to find info that wasnt behind a paywall so I really appreciate you making this type of information and education accessible!!
I didn’t know selling privately within the UK actually requires a plant passport 😯 I’ll have to google if it’s the same in my country (in the EU). It’s probably not a prioritised area within the postal services but I guess it’s good to know if anything happens. And already 1/4 in I decided I’ll not try to buy directly from a grower lol. A lot of hassle with a lot of risks. I understand the prices in plant shops now!
Selling privately within EU doesn’t require passport, phyto or any other documents. As Long as you are not professionel en legally responsible for the plant and the process nor you earn over a specific amount from it, you are not recuired to register as a company. As a hobby grower and private collector you can happily buy and sell plants without documentation within EU.
This was one awesome information packed video. One of a kind really. I dont know of any youtuber who has done it before, atleast I haven't seen yet. Much needed Information especially in these times. Kudos to the time you spend on research and presentation Kaylee. ❤️. Keep up the good work.
Meaning it is time to stop buying new plants and nurture the existing ones. Stop the endless cycle of chasing. I have to say that the attitude of most SEA growers currently is not the best from experiences too. Great video again! Thanks KE!
Thank you so much @KayleeEllen for making this video. It is definitely very insightful and helps shed more light on what factors are at play when shopping for rare (commercially) plants. I added commercially, as truly rare and endangered species have no place in people’s homes. This is where the poaching aspect comes into view as well. Botanical gardens are of course the major exceptions to this, where they are playing a vital role in conservation efforts and their work is very important. However, what I believe people refer to as rare plants are those which are not readily available from local nurseries or garden centers (with exceptions, of course). Considering the information you have very clearly and concisely provided has given me a much better understanding and appreciation of plant shops. Knowing what to look for when making a purchase also greatly helps. Your B-roll from your green wall and your own shop is great. Thanks again!
Outstanding video! 👏 I had every intention of importing plants this spring but after watching the hell they have to go through, I have definitely changed my mind. That was heartbreaking! I will happily pay a little more at a small business now. Thank you, Kaylee. I have learned a great deal from you but this was definitely your best video yet!
Thank you for this video this educated me so much, and I love that you're so blunt about all this. Honestly some other sellers are so over secretive about this kind of information because they're worry they will lose money. So i love your honesty you rock Kaylee
Thank you, Kaylee Ellen! I just bought a smallish $$$ amounts worth on pre-sale (8 plants) but felt comfortable because of his greenhouse tour. He has a few hybrids he claims as his own, and I figured let’s try to support a local guy. Fingers crossed!
Really a great job. As a plant lover it comes with a responsibility to the planet to acquire sustainable plants. Great job Kaylee. I would definitely like to see a video on flipping to further understand the ethics of who i should be buying from...well done!
Absolutely fantastic video. I’ve ordered 5 plants now from Singapore in 3 orders. Only 1, a billietiae, didn’t make it. A challenging recovery for two. A 69686 dropped all 4 leafs, a few weeks in a prop box and it spit out 2 new leaves. And two growing like I got them down the street. All three orders went from order in Singapore to my care in Flat Rock, NC in 10 days. . My one concern is a constant lack of a rocking root system. The cleanse really beats the living helll out of them. Definitely what did in the billietiae. Thanks again for the tremendous amount of info here. I had to watch twice and take notes the second time.
You rock! This was really concise and long overdue. I think there might not be Araceae species (aroids) on the CITES list (This may change at any time), I think it is good to note that plants on the list require an additional CITES certificate. All orchids, for example, fall within that category along with other endangered species. The phyto certification was put in place to limit virusses/bacteria/insects and diseases in general, from traveling between countries. You never know what might affect food crops, for example. A harmless beetle in Indonesia might be a problem in the US and visa versa. Very good points, thank you again.
Well done Kaylee. I can see there was a lot of work to bring this all together. Thank you for taking the time to do this. It's really valuable information and I can refer back to it any time as a reference.
Already pressed like 52 seconds in, it took me so long because i was captured by Kaylee presentation and the introduction, production, edit and quality 👌
Oh, i have my own experience with flipping, when bought a plant at online shop. Somehow delivery took way too long, but what i got was a heavily pruned plant. And that shop at least gave my money back, as they acknowledged, that they didn’t check the shipment after it came from another country and just sent it right to me.
A job well done Kaylee 😎 very informative with an in-depth and understanding of how plants get from Point A,B,C,D in the plant world. Keep up the good work. You have inspired me into the rare plants sector and I love your videos which I now wait for them weekly ❤️👍🇦🇺
Fabulous info! I'm listening to this as placing my orders for my own plant shop, and nearly everything here hits the nail on the head. Only thing I found that was off was importing into the USA. We're allowed to import twelve or less without a permit, not ten. It's crazy how much Phtosanitary Certificates can cost! HAving them issued here in the US can range from $80USD-$150USD.
This was such an informative & beautifully done video! I'd love to see a video on flipping along with the shadier, black market side of the houseplant trade ie. poaching.
In the Netherlands it is not illegal at all to sell plants as a private person without difficult paperwork except for a few trademark cultivars. Rooting cuttings, trading and sharing plants is what makes the hobby so much more fun than just buying them like furniture.
Kaylee, you nailed it. That's how professional videos look like! You did visualise the first part on your self, right. Awesome. Love it! Very, very good job done. 👏🏽 congratulations It feeled like a action documentation in cinema quality 👌🏻 with easy understandable, straight good information. Thank you very alot for this!!!!

Love everything in this video! I am a private seller for now and appreciate all of information about risk vs reward at all points during the process. I would love to see a video on the various things that can happen to a plant/cutting during shipment and how to rehab it. Would also love a video on flipping! Basically .. all the videos 😂💚
You are absolutely correct about the certificate. I tried buying from a seller who did not use the certificate and canceled my purchased, but many of his buyers did not even get a plant, they were not allowed into the states.
Loved this video! Seriously one of your very best! Please do another on flipping! Would love to learn more. Thanks so much, you really deserve for this to go viral!
Very interesting video Kaylee! And i’m glad that you touched the topic of flipping plants. A while ago i was in a plant shop when i noticed people buying a plant and making plans to cut it up to sell with a profit. You buy a plant because you like it, and not to make money. That’s my humble opinion ☺️
👩🏾🌾🌱🛩👩🏾🌾 That's a pretty big impact on emissions. What a great video! I can see you making a good documentary on black market and illegal practices. Thanks for sharing this critical info.
I'm so glad I watch this video, I was going to buy some plants from Indonesia and this video really help me to think better about what I was going to do 😳 Do I really want to take the risk? This video was so beautifully done. Some amazing scenes. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot about importing, which I had been wondering about. Fabulous job
I SO wish I could purchase things from your store here in the U.S. you’ve taught me so much on my plant collecting guide. You and Becca De La Plants ❤️
Really great video as usual! Impressed with the quality of the content, editing, honesty and clarity on the subject. Superb job! Would love a vid on flipping!
Kaylee this was incredibly informative and I love the way you put it together with the pros and cons. Would love to see a video on flipping...I’ve been victim to that I never knew it was a thing.
As for private persons selling plants inside of the EU and therefore needing documentation like plant passport, I think it depends on how member states interpret the plant health regulation etc. To my knowledge most if not all member states have decided that sales between private persons inside the EU is ok and doesn't require documentation in the form of plant passport.
I’m in the process of getting my phyto license and I asked my professor this and he told me that all plants traveling within the EU need a passport period. No excuses 🤷🏼♀️ It’s just a matter of being caught I think... Bc in the EU to make the proces efficient the inspection will take place at the production site/ grower/ shop so I’m not sure how much they check packages that are on their way ... so that’s a risk you’re taking
Yeah I'm really not sure why information is being passed around that it simply "depends" - all plants need a passport - whether they are sold by a shop or a private seller - full stop. I think its just wishful thinking for most people.
@@belovedsummerdays Please see my response to Kaylee Ellen :-) Law is never black and white and even EU regulation will be up to a member state's interpretation of it because in the end all law (also regulations) will be full of holes. I just looked through the EU plant health regulation and to my understanding it applies to professional operators. Art. 2 (9) states that 'professional operators' means any person, governed by public or private law involved professionally in and legally responsible for planting, breeding, producing, growing, maintaining, movement within EU, making available on the market, storage collection etc. I have a hard time believing that hobbyists that sell cuttings a couple times a year can be considered a professional and/or legally responsible for any of those categories unless it's your job.
@@camilla8763 that may be your opinion on your interpretation of the law... but the fact still is that every plant circulating the EU needs a plant passport and the officers checking that won’t care to check your interpretation of the law and you’ll just lose the plant 🤷🏼♀️ plant passports are mandatory Bc just like animals plants can carry viruses bacteria or pests... the EU uses the passports to control and trace potential threats
@@camilla8763 I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way. I’m not saying you shouldn’t sell online, everyone can do what he/she wants but you should know the risks as a buyer and a seller. If you’re not convinced I can ask my professor for further clarification this week 🙂
awesome video. was definitely wondering about growers overseas and their prices and Covid-19, and noticed a ton of wholesalers trying to sell directly--I just assumed because plant retail shops may have been closed to the public this year, they had to make money a different way.
I'm in Australia 🇦🇺 and we have strict quarantine regulations just between some states depending on where you are and where the plant is coming from. At the moment I'm waiting on some plants I've ordered online to arrive. They are coming from Cairns Queensland a distance of 2572 km away. So it's almost like buying international here the distances they can come from.
Hey 👋 Absolutely Love this new editing style, Is so fun and engaging! I would love for some of the clips to be of you in a nursery or possibly some of your plants. Just a suggestion 😊. LOVE YOUU
I rewatched this AGAIN! thank you :) I'm curious how does one clear soil for import? The stress that plants have to go through just to make us happy :(. As a seller yourself, can you show someday how you clear soil that gets phytosanitary certified? From the flow of things, it's like the grower say in Thailand clears the soil, sends it to a plant seller like you and you pot it and then when you think it is ready, you put it out and clear the soil again. Just the same, thank you for the attention you give to the plants you sell :)
This feels like a mixture of cinema, mystery and a true crime Netflix show! And I am living for it
Seriously!! This is next level.
Yes! The mystic dramatic music and cool tone colour palette 😍
I just got to that part with the eerie music and I'm loving it!

This video was so beautifully done. Some amazing scenes. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot about importing, which I had been wondering about. Fabulous job
Very interesting and great to listen to while watering my plants. Have a great Friday and weekend
The the level of cinematography in this video is amazing ❤️
I SO wish I could purchase things from your store here in the U.S. you’ve taught me so much on my plant collecting guide. You and Becca De La Plants ❤️
I ship to the US 🥰
@@KayleeEllenOfficial 😱😱 oh hell yeah! That’s so relieving!
@@KayleeEllenOfficial through your actual online store right?
Really great video as usual! Impressed with the quality of the content, editing, honesty and clarity on the subject. Superb job!
Would love a vid on flipping!
Kaylee this was incredibly informative and I love the way you put it together with the pros and cons. Would love to see a video on flipping...I’ve been victim to that I never knew it was a thing.
Hello Kaylee Ellen, glad you have made this! I really liked the video
another great video. Very informative. Thank you for including the bit about pre-ordering! I refuse to ever pre-order plants!
I would definitely like to see a video about flipping, I want to make sure I'm safely spending my money, thank you!!
I love these educational videos you do. Great job🥰
Great video! It is super high quality and informational. I love your channel. I'm not a Aroid person (I love orchids) but I truly enjoy your videos 🥰
👁️ FANTASTIC video Kaylee. Per usual, you flaw me. 🌱💚✌🏻
Cool story bro. Seriously, this is a very good and informative video. High quality content from Kaylee as usual! 💙
I definitely would love to see a video on flipping plants and signs to look for if someone is selling a recently imported plant.
I've been waiting for this topic!
awesome video. was definitely wondering about growers overseas and their prices and Covid-19, and noticed a ton of wholesalers trying to sell directly--I just assumed because plant retail shops may have been closed to the public this year, they had to make money a different way.
Great video, would love to see one on flipping as well. Thanks!
These videos are much better than your rant videos! More of these please!!!!
This was a very informative, well done video. Great info to have when making purchasing choices.
Hey 👋 Absolutely Love this new editing style, Is so fun and engaging! I would love for some of the clips to be of you in a nursery or possibly some of your plants. Just a suggestion 😊. LOVE YOUU
Thank you for providing such an informative video!! I cant wait to get a plant from you one day! 🇨🇦 love you girl!! :)
I rewatched this AGAIN! thank you :)
I'm curious how does one clear soil for import? The stress that plants have to go through just to make us happy :(. As a seller yourself, can you show someday how you clear soil that gets phytosanitary certified? From the flow of things, it's like the grower say in Thailand clears the soil, sends it to a plant seller like you and you pot it and then when you think it is ready, you put it out and clear the soil again. Just the same, thank you for the attention you give to the plants you sell :)
It’s the QUALITY for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🌱🌱🌱So when are you producing movies?!?!
you are the only youtuber I click thumbs up on the videos even before watching
