You have such a talent for researching, synthesizing, and presenting complex subjects, Drea. This was a Tissue Culture Master Class. Thank you for all your work
I guarantee if you have a number of plants you probably have many TC plants and not just one. I have zero issues with TC and I don’t have an issue with plants I spent a lot of money on being cheaper now, that seems to have more to do with arrogance. I buy a plant because I like it not just because it’s rare, sure its fun to have a rare plant but at the end of the day the industry is changing and things rare today may not be rare tomorrow, that’s just a fact that we can’t change. You did an amazing amount of research on this video, thanks for all your efforts in bringing us quality information! ❤
Perfect timing, I need to go to the supermarket but I'm very dissociated and panicky. With you in my ears I can do it! Edit: I stand with you on tissue culture.
That sheds a little light on the controversy. I know Kaylee Ellen brings up the complaints about tissue culture a lot, especially in relation to the Delta Force since she sells it. I wondered if this was primarily a UK thing since they are much more anti-GMO and see tissue culture as something similar, or if it was just general annoyance at the plant being less rare. I just lopped off a section of one of my syngonium albos that was primarily white. Some leaves had a partial green border and it would look cool if those will propagate, but I figure the plants won’t have enough chlorophyll to thrive.
The only Anti tissue culture reasoning I can understand is the risk of spreading diseases or undesirable characteristics. As far as "stealing" someone's plant by tissue culturing it, I don't really believe plants should be patentable but they are so I feel like its the person's responsibility to seek out that patent and use it to protect themselves. Patents expiring is a good thing, plants should become widely available to everyone once the patent holder has had a chance to profit off their work.
You are the one channel that makes videos on the most random things that I always think about in the shower😂 l love the effort and detail you put into your videos ❤
Another fabulous video Drea!! You have such a great way of explaining things so us non-scientific people can understand. I resisted buying a Syngonium 3 Kings because the company I saw it at had it labeled as T.C. But I will go back and buy that next time it's on sale. TC is not the big evil deal I thought it was. Thank you so much for all that research you obviously had invested in this video!!
Hello beautiful! Great video, keep up the good work. Great explanation on tissue culture especially to the ones who’s not heard of the process. Would absolutely love to share a cup of coffee and listen to you talk :) Im in DFW, my friend wanted me to write this part…😊
Do you think after a lot of plants being TC over and over again, in the future due the DNA variations and less resistance of pests and virus it can lead to the extinction of an specific plant or the extinction of a complete genus?
The process is called senescence. We see this with mycelium. Add spores to a plate, take resultant mycellium to another plate and after many, many sub transfers, there is a weakening of the resultant fungi as the strain becomes "tired". There is a lot of speculation with this. One way to prevent that, is by going back to the spore print or as in your case the original sport and begin the process again. The alternative is to harbor a population in the wild to represent the source parentage, which will carry environmental adaptations, allowing for stronger source material. The important thing to remember is that this allows for species to remain in the wild without collection. A properly acquired tissue sample will not harm the parent plant. and another thing, You can by meristematic TC produce a virus free culture. It is possible to collect the apical meristem that is virus free and save a population infected with a virus. we so this with mycellium, selecting threads that are not infected until we get a clean culture.

Well said, and I agree 💯👍

I'm not against TC, and thank you for all your hard work and research 💞🙏😊
Thank you! I’m one of the planty weirdos that requested this video 🤪 Excellent explanations and information!
You’re welcome!💚
Very well explained, thank you
You are welcome!💚

Great information, easy to understand. Thanks for sharing all your research and knowledge. Love your videos.
You’re welcome!💚
This was 100% the most informing and interesting UA-cam post I have ever watched. I find this topic absolutely fascinating. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!💚

Thank you for doing all of this research and breaking it down ❤
Great explanation! Thank you!
You are welcome!💚
I love your educational videos so much 🎉 you always do such s great job ❤ I'm definitely pro TC and the plant snobs can go 🚫 themselves!
I have tissue culture farm near me, so my local garden centre does business with them. I always get all the rare jewels for low low prices.
You are the one channel that makes videos on the most random things that I always think about in the shower😂 l love the effort and detail you put into your videos ❤
Lol! I actually planned the outline for this video in my head while in the shower🤣
I'm not anti tc but I do want to know so I can take care of them a little different in the beginning because they need more tlc in the beginning
Very good video from you!!!! I like how you really advance my knowledge on different topics!
What a fantastic and so informational video! Thank you so much for all the time and work you put into this video ❤❤
You are so welcome!💚

You’re welcome, and kudos to that place for labeling it that way since so many people are pushing for that💚

Are you the person who emailed me what was probably forever ago now that I’m just now realizing I never replied to?
