I remember when I first found the athletic’s team, not only was it during a midnight storm, but I hit a tree, got thrown off my horse, and landed in amongst the bodies. To say I was freaked out, would be an understatement.

James Wilson apparently the skinner brothers have been around a while from one of his other videos. They would’ve been around the same time the athletics were killed because they blamed the skinners first. However how the bodies didn’t decompose for so long is another question

James Wilson yeah almost a a 10yr difference, bodies would’ve totally started to decompose and the smell would’ve been most pertinent. However I say you could easily lean that to the fact that it’s a game and that:
More game related and immersing: it would give more depth to find a pile of bodies that haven’t decomposed
More realistic: to find a pile of decomposing bodies/skeletons with wolves and other bugs eating what’s left

i think Lowry has an "arrangement" with the skinners. mutual admiration, as it were. it would explain two things. 1, how he captured an entire athletics team (with the skinners help). and 2, how he can operate in the heart of skinner territory to such a degree with impunity.

I think he poisoned them with drinks, they are athletics so obviously them encountering him with water for the road would make sort of sense, plus not everyone would've come on that pathway so he wouldn't have an issue with someone seeing him dragging the bodies deep into the forest

My point is that he would have to have killed them 7 years earlier. Bodies left out in the open like that for 7 years would at least decompose but also be easy pickings for scavengers. I would think after 7 years, only bones would be left. It is interesting to think and debate about though.
Yes, that makes absolutely no sense. John reads about it in the news paper so the team went missing in 1907. If Lowry dies in 1899, then he couldn’t have possibly killed them....unless it was his g-g-g-ghost! ....nah.

This was exactly my first thought. The timelines don't add up.
When i did this " side quest " pretty much when this game was brand new, i was so baffled about how much time and thought went into this mission design. Finding the 3 dead bodys, even tho i did this without knowing it lol, and then searching the cabin with the code...it was seriously scary and amazing at the same time.

After watching the video, I went back and re read the letter Edmund received from his mother on the basement desk. It talks about how she hopes Edmund is taking his medication for his sleep to calm his nerves. I wonder if maybe that’s how he did it. Instead of using the medications like he’s supposed to, he got the team to injest a large amount of it by lacing their drinking water as some Good Samaritan while they were out on their run. That would be the most plausible way of doing it if he was the killer. With the whole team drugged, he would then be able to bound them all up and kill them however way he’d like. With the way he is, the medication he’d have been prescribed would have to be pretty strong to tone him down. I’d wager it’d be pretty potent to take a whole, healthy team down too.
I was gonna go with cyanide, or some kind of poison for rats, but that's a better assessment!
Great theory. Chloral hydrate (sort of the pecursor to barbiturates) was used a lot around the late 1800s as a knock out drug for a variety of reasons bc it was such a strong, fast-acting sedative. That would be my guess anyways for how he could get the whole team quickly and all in one go. It was typically administered in droplet form, which works quite well with your idea of his adding something to a shared drinking source. The only problem is that it has a very bitter taste, so maybe they we celebrating a win and he put it into a bottle of liquor and passed it around so that they would all take a swig?

That does make a surprising amount of sense even if assets were reused. They were out for a run so (as other people have put forth) he could have offered them refreshments and poisoned them. The bags over their heads could be something related to his particular M.O. The other video points out how mostly intact corpses don't exactly line up with how the Skinners do things as there's a bit more to torture with them. From the looks of it some dismemberment is definitely in line with Lowry's way.

I think its because there were so many of them that he didnt do as much torture/disembowelment like his usual MO states. He was at the disadvantage so it makes sense he would just cut the arms off a few of them to make the 'B'
So I have a question. Every video I see of people doing the American Dreams quest, it’s Arthur discovering the bodies and catching the serial killer. Can John find the 3 bodies/the serial killer or is it time sensitive? I would assume the 3 corpses would have rotted by the time it’s 1907.
I mainly ask because if you use the glitch during a Angelo Bronte a Man of Honor, the black water athletes bodies aren’t at that spot. Maybe it’s an oversight and the Easter egg is just meant to be found when the rest of the west is open to explore or maybe it’s coded to be found by John. Either way, if that’s the case then Arthur locks up Lowry early in 1899 and again the bodies aren’t in the pit by the time chapter 4 roles around. So does that mean Lowry wasn’t the killer then and the team went missing after Lowry was captured and after Arthur’s death in chapter 6?

@@lawrencetalbot8346 If the bodies aren't there when you use that glitch (and you probably know that Arthur was able to cross Upper Montana River, but it was for some reason scrapped at one point during development) it mean that Lowry had nothing to do with this killing, It's all Skinners work.

As, to how Edmund Lowry Jr. killed the Blackwater Athletics Team. The only thing I can think of is he drugged their food or more likely water since athletes need to drink alot while training.
I agree. I wonder if he met them on the trail with poisoned water in his wagon and was like, "I'm such a fan of you all!" And then offered them the water, poisoning them.

The most impressive thing is how he was able to do it 8 years after he died.

The amount of detail that goes into this game is insane. The fact that someone made and wrote all those articles about the murders he did which the majority of players will probably never see just shows how amazing this game is.

I remember I was so frightened entering his hideout, pretty creepy fellow. I did not even read these newspaper scraps and wanted to get out as soon as possible.
Based on the fact that the team was found with tied mouths and bags over their faces, Edmund clearly had a lot of time. The fact that none of the team members have any visible stab or gunshot wounds, it leads me to believe they were poisoned. So I think it is possible that Edmund had poisoned their drinking water or food. Maybe even invited the team for dinner after their run, allowing him to tie them up and let them die from the poison. Just a thought.
Also to add onto that, it would make sense that Edmund possibly poisoned their drinking water or food because they went for a run, because he knew that they would be running through a secluded area such as tall trees, where he could collect them and make that mass grave.

Sounds like a reasonable guess, especially with the "B" at the scene and in his basement. Considering that the athletics team was going for a run, you can surmise that they'd have had a regular route. I'd say Lowry set up some sort of a trap, and considering the location perhaps some kind of a deadfall with trees, then went in to finish off the wounded/startled ones that the trap didn't kill.

actually Lowry's murders are always brutal, the ones that say they aren't are the his first kills while he was getting his taste for killing, eventually finding his M.O of brutality and settling with that, it happens with almost every serial killer, they murder in different ways until they find a way they prefer or enjoy more

BMO It really doesn’t. Amazing video as always but I don’t see enough evidence to say it was Lowry. The “B” made of limbs was probably a template they used in his basement as well, not necessarily Lowry did it.
Drowning may not be brutal but it's definitely cruel. I can picture Lowry smiling placidly, maybe even fishing, as his victim's lungs burn for air.

Well, I caught Lowry as Arthur and found the Athletics team eight years later as John...so it did not occur to me that Lowry could be the sportsmen's killer 'cause he had been taken out of business, so to speak, eight years before the killing of those men occurred. At least I reckoned that they were killed somewhat recently 'cause why would the bodies still be in the place where the murderer left them and be in a state of relative intactness (i.e. not putrefied etc.) if they had been murdered years ago? Also why would newspapers in 1907 report on the vanishing of a sports team in a manner that indicates that the team went missing somewhat recently if they had been murdered (and thus vanished) nearly a decade ago?...Soooo, as much as I admire your videos I'm not quite sure that you are on the right track with that one. I always took the fact that the bodies are found in the heart of the Skinner territory to be a strong indication that the Skinners are the ones that offed the athletics team, after all: they are notorious for waylaying people from Blackwater and the Tall Trees region and have killed many other people + they have a knack for mutilating their victims. Furthermore Lowry's MO seems to be to skulk for SINGLE victims and kill them, not entire groups (which makes sense: how could he logistically take out a dozen men as a single attacker?). All the newspaper clippings in his lair tell stories of ONE person found dead, i.e. his approach was to assault and kill an single person (or to assault and drag away a single person and kill it elsewhere). So bottom line the Skinner Brothers strike me still as more convincing culprits in the murder of the team.
Very good point, but the leg and arms in the form of a B found in his cellar convince me, maybe players weren't meant to find the killer as Arthur or the year of the news article was only set one way

Has anyone visited the pit as Arthur and later on as John just to see if there are any changes? If they didn't turn to skeletons by then, that means R* may have overlooked it.. therefore it can either be the serial killer or the skinners because we don't know when they were killed.

What makes this mystery really complicated is that the old shack(ufo) with the eleven dead bodies could be related to the black water team. Even their shoes look athletic.

8:03 It's very simple how Lowry did in the entire Blackwater Athletics team. First, Lowry is an anagram of Rowly. Rowly combines "row" and "ly;" "row," as in rowing a boat, and 'ly' meaning, "in the style of." Therfore, "rowly" means "in the style of rowing." "So, what does this have to do with solving how Lowry did in the Blackwater Athletic team?" you might ask.
Absolutely nothing.
What does matter is that we have clues as to how Lowry did in the team, AT THE SCENE OF THE CRIME! We have the letter "B" on the athletes' uniforms and the "B" made from the severed limbs. Huh, the letter "B," odd how much it is repeated. But how can the letter "B" kill anyone you may ask. Simple, because "B" is also an animal, a "BEE!" Or more like, several bees! You'll notice that the entire team has burlap sacks over their faces and what's one of the symptoms of an allergic reaction? Hives - a kind of allergic rash and swelling of certain extremities, SUCH AS THE FACE. You try killing a whole bunch of people trying to stair at their icky swollen faces. Maybe you want to cover them up with some sacks you have, maybe even draw some pretty faces on them so that you can cut them up in peace and quiet not having a grotesque swollen face looking at you. You all saw "Wicker Man" so you know what's up! And where do we find the bodies? In the forest. Where do bees live, IN THE FOREST; or somewhere else, mostly anywhere, except for the desert or can they live in the desert(?) but for sure a forest is a place where bees can be found. But hey, Lowry is just one guy and there's like a dozen athletes, how did he get them all at once, you may ask. Well, knowing that athletes have higher metabolism and need more energy than normal, noodly armed, stringy, malnourished people, Lowry tricked the team into following him into the forest. But how, how did Lowry trick the team? With the promise of honey, that's right honey, the most dense, energy rich natural food out there. But what is Honey, you may ask? Well Honey believes everyone should have the information they need to make the best decisions with their money. It’s easy to spend money online. But getting the most value is a different story. Take shopping for example. Finding the best deal takes time, prices change depending on the buyer, and payment methods aren’t always in your best interest. We don’t think that’s fair. Honey is here to help. Honey gives everyone the tools it takes to find the best savings, perks, and all around value. And we make them free and easy-to-use. So you can always spend with confidence. With the help of Honey, Lowry was able to save up enough money to bribe a whole bunch of bees to sting the Blackwater Athletics team, knowing full well that every single member of the team was allergic to bees (I really don't have anything to back that up but it's only way it can work - though, the bees could've also been armed with revolvers and knives and maces and polio and pamphlets about not eating red meat and killing the team with multiple guilt trips). And after defeating the superior, muscly Blackwater Athletics team, he could not resist *spelling it out* how he did them in.
And that is how Lowry did in the Blackwater Athletics team.

It would make sense though, alot more sense than the Uncle/Red theory. We already know that Lowry is extremely active in New Hanover and West Elizabeth. It's not a stretch to credit him for those killings too. And it looks like his handiwork too. I can't imagine it being the Skinner Brothers. They love arrows and tomahawks and torture. Lowry is all about decapitation, dismemberment, and disembowelment. The only question is how the fuck he could have killed an entire team of ATHLETES, MEN.

I always thought it was the skinner brothers who killed the sports team. This would make sense because you can find the sports team in tall trees. Also, if Edmond Lowry really did kill the sports team, than they would be more decomposed when John finds them in 1907.
The newspaper explaining that the team went missing is from 1899. the Skinners only arrived to Tall Trees in 1905.

I use Lowery's revolver as my main weapon.
I don’t think you can just over rule the fact that he, a tiny fancy gentleman who goes down in one hit, could overpower a who fitness team. I think you could make just as good a case for the skinners being the killers
The problem is that the Skinner brothers murder even more brutally than him. Also they wouldn't take the time to hide the bodies, they would just leave the desmembered corpses there in their camp
The skinners would be a good guess but then all of the body's would have been burned, completely mutilated, skinned, etc considering what you can see them doing at there camp. Lowery makes more sense because he is one crazy s.o.b and he seems like the kind of person to cut off limbs to take as a trophy, hence the B bring spelled out the same way in his basement.
Well he could have used lowerys revolver and due to the remoteness no one heard him shoot and if there were and more he would dismember them

My theory is that the runners were thirsty and needed something to drink and Lowry gave them all something to drink. The drink contained poison and one by one they died. Then, Lowry put bags over their heads and cut of their dead limbs, dug the grave and left them. He couldn't kill all of them without some of them getting away so that's why he may have tricked them with a drink...

My theory is that while the athletes were running he set dynamite up on the road and when they got close he shot it and it killed all of them which explains why there missing a few limbs
In my opinion Edmond Lowery jr was part of the skinners around 1880 and that would explain his passion for murder, as well as in a letter you can find in Lowery's celler he had to take prescription meds to calm him down, so my guess is that his mom found out he is a skinner brother, took him to the doctor and got him meds. I think the skinners and Lowery committed the murder.
