This is the best voicemeeter tutorial I've seen, I was struggling with voicemeeter on how to record my external mic and synths, now I know, thanks for this tutorial :-) :-)
You should be able to get latency lower by reducing the buffer for your audio interface. And you should monitor the audio from the DAW, not from OBS because that will add more latency. All of this depends on the interface you are using, some have more routing options than others. Just tinker with it.
This is absolutely perfect! The best voicemeeter tutorial on the internet bar none!.. I must have watched hundreds and this is the only one that worked and made sense to me... An absolute lifesaver at this time, huge kudos for doing this!

So I did adjust my buffer rate but had to go all the way up to 48k 512samples does that seem normal because seems almost 4 times as high as you set it and you mentioned setting it as low as possible without getting any problems.
My friend, thank you very much! It was the second time he'd bailed me out. Thank you very much! I'm struggling for 4 weeks now to find a solution to this. Although it's important to mention that it's not going to work with every sound interface. I have a Focusrite scarlet solo 2nd gen and I tried this method with the same settings that you're showing in this video. I got huge latency and if I'm lowering the buffer size of my ASIO driver I get crackling sound. So I decided to upgrade my gear and I bought a Scarlet 8i6 3rd gen. I got the same crackling sound but this time it was less and it was in the background. The latency was the same. I've got really disappointed with Focusrite products after this. I sent back my 8i6 and I purchased a Steinberg UR22C. It was a relief to hear the sound finally without any latency and crackling sound. The only cons are about the Steinberg interfaces that the preamps are a bit weaker and the Headphone output gain is not that powerful as the Focusrite.
I have a similar crackling audio sound and I'm using a scarlet 6i6. You had no audio crackle sounds by getting a completely different audio interface? That's crazy
Thank you very much for your help! I could never figure out how to feed my audio from Cubase to OBS/SLOBS for the longest time, and now, that's been resolved. Really appreciate the clear and concise help from this video!

Hi amazing video, so well laid out in detail step by step, subscribed! I am having a bit of a challenge however with this set up selecting VM aux in reaper as the ASIO driver in preferences. I have an old two channel input audiobox audio interface with mic in channel 1 and guitar in channel 2. Reaper hears both channels simultaneously and is not separating the two channels independent of each other. This despite the VM settings being correctly entered in the "Patch ASIO to Strips" (IN 1 has 1 and IN 2 has 2 as you describe). They are separating accurately in VM but not in Reaper? Interestingly, Reaper does separate them only if I select "Virtual Potato Insert Virtual ASIO" as the ASIO driver, however, I then receive no playback to VM to hear Reaper this way. I hope I have described the issue clear enough. Thoughts?
Can you record an input signal (a guitar), and playback existing audio (back tracks) while Capturing all of it in OBS without a feedback loop? I can't seem to get it to work
Thanks for the help! The ONLY issue I have right now is that I am trying to use 5 inputs from my DAW. Voicemeeter Potato is picking up the 5 separate inputs, but my DAW is only picking up audio from Input 1? In other words, I cannot use all 5 tracks independently in my DAW. Is there a way I can link each respective DAW track to the 5 corresponding Potato tracks? VAIO3 is picking up correctly in OBS, I just want more control from my DAW.
Hi Hope your doing well. I thought i would contact you as i enjoy watching your lesson discussing the 11 rack and also Voice meeter. What I was wondering do you know of a way to use the 11 rack with amplitube or guitar rig running through Voice meeter and outputting to Skype. I have tried various methods but I only get a dry signal being sent to Skype. If it wont work with the 11 rack do you know of a way to make this work with a focusrite Audio Interface?
Hey there. Thanks for the video, and thanks for introducing me to these software. I'm having an annoying issue here though.. all my playback and recording devices are set to 48khz on the device list, but I'm still having that nasty crackling sound during pro tools playback. Even voicemeeter is displaying different sample rates on top of the virtual input tracks. Would love some help. thanks.
@@BenoniStudio All sample rates are 48khz. Buffer is at a whopping 1024, but I still have the crackling and popping sounds which only occur when voicemeeter is running. Don't know what else to do.
Are you listening through the ASIO interface or computer speakers? If it's computer speakers, try changing the driver. If it's the ASIO interface, the only think I could suggest is getting another one and try some new ASIO drivers. If this method isn't working for you, try the two interface method or the cable method. How To Use Two Audio Interfaces To Record/Stream Your DAW w/ OBS or Streamlabs ua-cam.com/video/by07jwd1KE8/v-deo.html the cable method is at the end of the video.
Listening through my asio interface. The whole thing is weird though. This just started with VB Potato. Everything was fine with banana before I reinstalled it, thinking potato was the issue. Will check the other options. Thanks a lot.
Well done. The only thing I'm still missing at this point is how to use the effects send return panel in potatoe, and if there's any way to add vst's directly to potato, because it's EQing suuuucks
nice job, is the only video who can really help! but i have a problem on the input sound. i work with a focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen and it woks very well without this method, but when it came trought voicemeeter it begins to make a sort of cliping effect(?) so my stream have this problem on sound too. i´ve seen the video many times and i can´t solve the problem (even changing the buffer size and sample rate). hope you can help me!
I'm not sure what Windows drivers are provided with the 2i2, but sometimes you have to switch from WDM to MME. A better way to do this is with Loopback which is available on the Scarlett 8i6, 18i8, and 18i20 Gen3 units. I think the 4i4 may have it too.
Thanks! Great video and got me going nicely! Just a question, at the 10:30 mark you go into settings and set the channels up 1 in the left box of one and 2 in the right box of 2, got it but what happens if you do 1 and 1, 2 and 2 instead (In 1 has 1 and 1 In 2 has 2 and 2)? Thanks again!
you left steps out, especially when it came to the routing, I notice the main output and realized this was not talked about, and I also have to ask what version of protools did you (8.28 time stamp) do this with because I'm on 11.3 and our screen don't look the same and I'm aware protools is are on a higher version, I just don't want any details left out... Thanks in advance
this is the closest i've gotten to fixing this. when i play into my interface, there's a constant ticking. i've changed the buffer size to every available option, in both the asio settings and scarlett mix control, it doesn't seem to make any change.
Any idea why, no matter what output I choose on A2 (WDM or MME), I hear a loud, consistent click every two seconds? The click worsens if I modify the buffering settings, so I know it's sample rate/buffer related. I'm using Reason 11 and a 3rd gen Focusrite 4i4.
just an FYI. Some focusrite audio interfaces don't play well with voicemeeter. I could not use my Scarlett Solo interface with Voicemeeter, as the resulting audio was terribly distorted. I switched to a different brand (Audiobox) and no more distortion.
why my RGB Lighting Audio triggered with Fl ASIO as DAW Engine + windows speaker output at taskbar but not any other option like asio or voice meeter??? i tried all possible scenarios i guess... is there any way to reroute this trigger into Voicemeeter somehow?
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately with Ableton and a Scarlet 2i4, I'm getting clicks and pops - even when I set the buffer to maximum - which is unusable anyway because the latency gets so high. The clicks correspond to the size of the buffer. Lower buffer = faster clicks. Larger bugger = slower clicks, but the clicks won't go away. Maybe this just doesn't play nice with Ableton. Bummer.
I'm using ProTools and I'm getting the same clicks and pops, Im also using a CamLink 4k video capture USB, and when i turn that off the clicks go away, but when its on the clicks and pops come back. Still trying to figure out a solution.
Can we get an updated version of this please. i hear alot of people are transitioning to the ASIO capture plugin / Audio monitor plugin. If you are now using that instead can you make a new video on how to do the same thing
Thank you! But in this metod i can't record on pro tools more than 2 inputs? i've a 8 input audio interface, and pro tools with VMinput lets me choose only 2 input ( like advanced metod ).. the 3th imput route to input 1 and 2... who can help me please? Thanks! However, great vid! Sorry 4 my english!
Ok, this makes great sense. But, for the sake of asking, can I do everything the same but cut out the DAW. Im really just trying to multitrack from my interface to OBS.
Update: When I set A1 with Asio Zoom Driver (which is my interface) I don't get any signal in the Voice meeter VAIO. But I do see signal when I set to "WDM line Zoom", in this second instance I can't see the Patch Asio Inputs to stream. Hi, great tutorial. I just have a question. In the part when it comes to patch audio inputs to stream I can't see the channels, only MME Zoom audio interface. So I'm not being able con set and monitor the input in Cubase 10.5. I have a zoom r16 8ch. Thanks, I already subscribed.
I got this to work! Thanks! This seems like a good solution for 8 channels or less (Tutorials etc)... Is there a way to stream 16 audio channels with plugins? I am trying to figure out how I would be able to livestream band performances, running my 16 channels into Reaper, mixing and adding EQ, Compression etc.... and streaming the stereo Audio WITH plugins with the Webcam video.... I have a Focusrite Saffire 8pre interface lightpiped with a Presonus Digimax FS 8pre for 16 total. My DAW is Reaper. I understand that Voicemetter might not be the option here, but is there something that can handle more channels?
hey, thats the second vid I watch and you seem to be pretty good in this stuff! Maybe you can answer me some questions? When I choose WDM on Voicemeeter my sound is totally distorted. MME and ASIO works fine. On the official forums they say choose the best device possible so that would be ASIO I assume. But you also said you use MME, but isnt it very old and has more latency? I just use ASIO for no eventhough I just use my computer quite usual, like watching TV shows, playing games (streaming), ect. no professional Audio recording or whatsoever. And there is one more big issue: Sometimes I just want to watch a movie with DTS on my big screen and thats kind awkward. When I shutdown VB its working as intended. But when I use VB with the 2nd virtual output and setting up my SPDIF-Out of my Audigy 5 to A3 I can basically see on the bars in VB that it receives all 5 channel but my Onkyio TX-NR509 only receives stereo. There is this tool VB-Audio Cable Control Panel. It says Input 6 ch but output only 2 ch. Any idea how to fix this?
When I say I use MME, I am referring to the audio driver for my computer speakers, the 2nd audio source. You should indeed have ASIO for the #1 source since that's where Potato gets it clock and sample rate from. For your second question, I don't know. I'd have to actually get hands-on with the equipment to figure out the routing.
@BenoniStudio Short help? All worked until 9:50. Then I don't get the signal into OBS. Activated B1, B2, B3 and see the signal in Voicemeter but the OBS Voicemeter AUX output stays dead...tried all other voicemeter outputs... no luck...
Go over the instructions again and verify that you have set everything exactly as I show. Make sure you have an Audio INPUT Capture in OBS and you have selected the correct output from Voicemeeter. Head to the website for text instructions too. benonistudio.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-screencast-your-daw-voicemeeter-potato-obs-studio-streamlabs/
BenoniStudio thank you. I already viewed the video 10 times but now I will try your text instructions. I set the obs input capture correct but still see nothing on the meter... the voice meter buses show signals... sound card is rme babyface
The Babyface should have Loopback. So you shouldn't even need to use Voicemeeter to get the DAW audio into OBS. I use a PreSonus 1824c which has loopback, so that's what I usually use - like this PreSonus Universal Control Loopback - Record DAW ASIO Audio into OBS/Streamlabs ua-cam.com/video/B0wLEzyJf-U/v-deo.html
@@BenoniStudio You are really my king! I still have the same problems with voicemeter but your hint was the key. I installed the asio obs plugin and activated loopback. Runs perfect! So I can start making audio videos... Amazing!
Im having trouble with my setup. I cant seem to change my playback audio to Voicemeter AUX Virtual ASIO in Protools. idk what im doing wrong i follwed every step. PLEASE HELP 🙏
Works perfectly on my Focusrite 2i2 on my Zoom R16 however, in VoiceMeeter when i select A1 - ASIO Zoom r16 driver it doesn't playback , doesn't detect inputs either (already setup ASIO inputs strip) unless i select WDM Line Zoom R16, but this has no input , only for playback Planning for full band Multi channel live stream set up mixed in DAW to OBS Any idea? hopefully not a Driver issue
Again, the easiest way would be to simply patch the output of your interface into your computer. It would also be the lowest latency. They cable is only about $8 - it will make your life easier. You could also get an audio interface that has loopback built-in. Does the Zoom R16 have loopback? I've never used that model.
@@BenoniStudio I think that would be the best setup for me, 2 interface since mine doesn't have loopback Still really appreciate your tutorials, exactly what i need unfortunately voicemeeter has limits to but your tutorials really made me understand how they work Thank you so much again for your help!
This video is for those who don't have an interface with loopback, and it works well for that. But my preferred method is an interface with loopback. And I would highly suggest that anyone who needs to do this more than a few times to pick up an audio interface that has the loopback feature.
Does anybody know how to "Set the input of the mic track to VM-VAIO 1" in Ableton??? I feel like that's the only thing keeping me from making a loop-free solution
I have a similar problem. Trying to find a solution. Are you running a powerful computer Daniel? Maybe our computers can't handle the buffering of audio. I wonder if BenoniStudio has a solution.
In the year 2022 I would recommend everyone simply buy an audio interface that has Loopback built in. Its more reliable and avoids the latency problem. These days you can get an audio interface with Loopback for around $99 and its worth it if you want to stream your DAW. If you are new to Loopback, checkout the Loopback chapter of this video Audient iD44 MKII Audio Interface - EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW ua-cam.com/video/RnUANft6IN8/v-deo.html Loopback will work the same on any other interface, like the EVO 4 for example.
As long as you are using an ASIO interface, you should be able to reduce the buffer to eliminate latency as long as your PC has good specs. And you should monitor though the interface, not the output of OBS.
The really sad part is software that are packages with the audio device should already do this out the box. for example, Universal Control of Presonus should have all these operations and features right within their software. People shouldnt haveto or be forced to use a 3rd party software like voicemeter, when the DAW included softeware such as Universal Control should already do this out the box. This is why I am pissed off at Presonus and many other audio device companies. I have a friend of mine, who just purchased the Studio 192-Mobile, its brand new. and ever since he got that device, its been nothing but nightmares. To the point that Studio One v4 he has doesnt recognize the audio device. He even had people from Sam Ash and Guitar Center come to his studio to make it work, And they all have failed. The device has been RMA'ed (twice) and twice it still doesnt work. He feels ripped off, and rightfully so. 1 week later and newer version of the audio device came out, (My friend was pissed when he seen that). I dont think these companies are putting their heart into these audio devices because if they did , these devices would work as they should be, And they shouldnt need 3rd party applications to somewhat solve their problems, when the audio device should already be packaged with all this. BTW - Great Video and awesome voice. straight to the point too, awesome work :)
It would be great if all interfaces included something like this. The PreSonus Studio 1824c does have this in Universal Control, its an option called Loopback that works pretty much like this. I don't think the 192 has loopback though. Alot of RME interfaces have it built-in to the driver as well.
@@BenoniStudio I miss the M-Audio Firewire 410 and the 1810. They worked like a charm. And when you choose a Audio Device in any DAW with those devices connected, in the list it actually showed (ASIO-Firewirer-410) , -- And the sound went in via computer and through the Firewire and on to the internal DSP directly within the device and internally the device simultaneously output the sound to ALL outputs on the device at the same time. Unlike Studio-192 that its either or. and you have to mess around with windows settings and DAW settings, its like building a rocket just to get sound. My friend has been going through hell with his Studio-192 that he has and he is about 2 seconds from throwing it across the street. My friend is not naive with audio gear either, he works in the industry for a living, so its not like he is brain dead about it. It seriously doesnt work like its suppose to. The Studio-192-Mobile is just pure crap.
With this method you will be able to route your ASIO audio into OBS, but also use the inputs on your audio interface routed INTO your DAW. So you can use live inputs with plugins and capture everything while screen recording or streaming. There is TIMECODE in the description, so use that to jump to the sections you want to see.

Did you eventually get your question answered? I'm trying to get my scarlett audio interface to work with Skype too.
THANKS A LOT❤🤘
Would love some help. thanks.
What sample rate is your DAW set at? Try to match things up if you have problems. And you may need to up your buffer.
@@BenoniStudio DAW is at same 48khz. Let me try raising the buffer size till it stops.
How To Use Two Audio Interfaces To Record/Stream Your DAW w/ OBS or Streamlabs
ua-cam.com/video/by07jwd1KE8/v-deo.html the cable method is at the end of the video.
Potato does not host VSTs. OBS can though if that helps.
nice job, is the only video who can really help! but i have a problem on the input sound. i work with a focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen and it woks very well without this method, but when it came trought voicemeeter it begins to make a sort of cliping effect(?) so my stream have this problem on sound too. i´ve seen the video many times and i can´t solve the problem (even changing the buffer size and sample rate). hope you can help me!
Thanks again!
you left steps out, especially when it came to the routing, I notice the main output and realized this was not talked about, and I also have to ask what version of protools did you (8.28 time stamp)
do this with because I'm on 11.3 and our screen don't look the same and I'm aware protools is are on a higher version, I just don't want any details left out... Thanks in advance
Check here: ua-cam.com/video/26JmHix0ESQ/v-deo.html we're watching now and it's helpful but ymmv
this is the closest i've gotten to fixing this. when i play into my interface, there's a constant ticking. i've changed the buffer size to every available option, in both the asio settings and scarlett mix control, it doesn't seem to make any change.
Any idea why, no matter what output I choose on A2 (WDM or MME), I hear a loud, consistent click every two seconds? The click worsens if I modify the buffering settings, so I know it's sample rate/buffer related. I'm using Reason 11 and a 3rd gen Focusrite 4i4.
wouldnt you get a copy right strike using it or does the fact you are doing it this way prevent this
just an FYI. Some focusrite audio interfaces don't play well with voicemeeter. I could not use my Scarlett Solo interface with Voicemeeter, as the resulting audio was terribly distorted. I switched to a different brand (Audiobox) and no more distortion.
Just got komplete audio 6 mk2, Thank you brother.
I have the original K6, they are solid interfaces.
why my RGB Lighting Audio triggered with Fl ASIO as DAW Engine + windows speaker output at taskbar but not any other option like asio or voice meeter??? i tried all possible scenarios i guess... is there any way to reroute this trigger into Voicemeeter somehow?
Is this still an issue? I want to use a scarlett 18i20 and Ableton to Skype with a guest for a podcast
Can we get an updated version of this please. i hear alot of people are transitioning to the ASIO capture plugin / Audio monitor plugin. If you are now using that instead can you make a new video on how to do the same thing
I have not used that, so I don't know, i'll have to check it out first. But an audio interface with Loopback is the best way to go today.
Hi. I have obs, voicemeeter potato, presonus music box (use 2 lines), and FL studio 12. Can you please help me set it up?
BEST VIDEO
thanks for the view 👍
Thanks a lot. you can to explain better as a ger....and i cant it write omg. greets from germany and more tutorials please
Why am i getting a lot of clicks and pops from the pro tools audio?
Bro thank you so...... much
Ok, this makes great sense. But, for the sake of asking, can I do everything the same but cut out the DAW. Im really just trying to multitrack from my interface to OBS.
Yes....kinda. The inputs would be setup in OBS from your interface.
Thanks, I already subscribed.
i cant see my plugins on OBS, how do i fix that?
Amazing tutorial thank you so much
Thanks for the view 👍
How about sending sub-mixes from Reaper to Voicemeeter/OBS rather than every individual channel? Reaper's routing is very good.
@@CreatorsMediaTools I ended up using Synchronized Audio Router for this issue, and I was able to send my whole Reaper master bus to SAR. Works great!
hey, thats the second vid I watch and you seem to be pretty good in this stuff!
@@BenoniStudio ok thanks, and what is the reason you use MME instead of WDM on your second audio?
Thnx
I use a PreSonus 1824c which has loopback, so that's what I usually use - like this
PreSonus Universal Control Loopback - Record DAW ASIO Audio into OBS/Streamlabs
ua-cam.com/video/B0wLEzyJf-U/v-deo.html
@@BenoniStudio You are really my king! I still have the same problems with voicemeter but your hint was the key. I installed the asio obs plugin and activated loopback. Runs perfect! So I can start making audio videos... Amazing!
Great.. Thanks man..
Sure, enjoy dude
Im having trouble with my setup. I cant seem to change my playback audio to Voicemeter AUX Virtual ASIO in Protools. idk what im doing wrong i follwed every step. PLEASE HELP 🙏
Idea is good but you lose latency in live performance when using Voice meeter
can you do this vid for studio one 4?
it should be pretty much the same for any ASIO daw.
Can this be done with Voicemeeter Banana or does it have to be Potato and if so why?
It should be, I think I have a video using Banana. Potato has more channels though.
is there a Mac variant of Voicemaster Potato?
No. But there are other programs like Soundflower or Loopback that should work.
Followed it word for word through 12 minutes in, i get clicks even tho all my buffer rates match, and it doesnt add MIC into the DAW in OBS..
im in ableton, highly doubt it makes a world of difference tho..
can you do this video like for skype and zoom minus the obs
It's the same but iwth an extra step - a virtual camera plugin for OBS, to use your OBS composite video as a webcam source.
Works perfectly on my Focusrite 2i2
on my Zoom R16 however, in VoiceMeeter when i select A1 - ASIO Zoom r16 driver it doesn't playback , doesn't detect inputs either (already setup ASIO inputs strip)
unless i select WDM Line Zoom R16, but this has no input , only for playback
Planning for full band Multi channel live stream set up mixed in DAW to OBS
Any idea? hopefully not a Driver issue
Again, the easiest way would be to simply patch the output of your interface into your computer. It would also be the lowest latency. They cable is only about $8 - it will make your life easier.
You could also get an audio interface that has loopback built-in. Does the Zoom R16 have loopback? I've never used that model.
@@BenoniStudio I think that would be the best setup for me, 2 interface since mine doesn't have loopback
Still really appreciate your tutorials, exactly what i need unfortunately voicemeeter has limits to but your tutorials really made me understand how they work
Thank you so much again for your help!
I also have a zoom R16. But can't see the patch Asio inputs to strips, they just don't appear. (10:29).
Has anyone used this for a 5.1 surround setup?
Idk why it doesn’t work on me, I followed everything to the teeth. I just wanna record whatever audio output I have in my DAW to OBS.
This video is for those who don't have an interface with loopback, and it works well for that. But my preferred method is an interface with loopback. And I would highly suggest that anyone who needs to do this more than a few times to pick up an audio interface that has the loopback feature.
Is there a Mac option?
You'll have to look to things like Soundflower for Mac. Or a program called Loopback
rogueamoeba.com/loopback/
Does anybody know how to "Set the input of the mic track to VM-VAIO 1" in Ableton???
I feel like that's the only thing keeping me from making a loop-free solution
yeah I'm looking for the same thing. Anyone?
XLNT!!!
thanks for the view 👍
I get choppy audio from ableton live to voicemeeter.. stuttering like crazy :(
I have a similar problem. Trying to find a solution. Are you running a powerful computer Daniel? Maybe our computers can't handle the buffering of audio.
I wonder if BenoniStudio has a solution.
I have the same problem with Vaio 3 and abelton, i have a 3900 rysen with 32 gbs sooooooooo
Everything I playback thru voicemeeter sounds so bad.. Is anyone else dealing with this issue? Any suggestions?
In the year 2022 I would recommend everyone simply buy an audio interface that has Loopback built in. Its more reliable and avoids the latency problem. These days you can get an audio interface with Loopback for around $99 and its worth it if you want to stream your DAW.
If you are new to Loopback, checkout the Loopback chapter of this video
Audient iD44 MKII Audio Interface - EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW
ua-cam.com/video/RnUANft6IN8/v-deo.html
Loopback will work the same on any other interface, like the EVO 4 for example.
i still have delay
As long as you are using an ASIO interface, you should be able to reduce the buffer to eliminate latency as long as your PC has good specs. And you should monitor though the interface, not the output of OBS.
@@BenoniStudio i fix it instaling voxengoconverter...it is a vst pluguin , i put it in the stereo output and then obs took the signal just fine
The really sad part is software that are packages with the audio device should already do this out the box.
for example, Universal Control of Presonus should have all these operations and features right within their software.
People shouldnt haveto or be forced to use a 3rd party software like voicemeter, when the DAW included softeware such as Universal Control
should already do this out the box.
He even had people from Sam Ash and Guitar Center come to his studio to make it work,
And they all have failed. The device has been RMA'ed (twice) and twice it still doesnt work. He feels ripped off, and rightfully so.
1 week later and newer version of the audio device came out, (My friend was pissed when he seen that).
I dont think these companies are putting their heart into these audio devices because if they did , these devices would work as they should be,
And they shouldnt need 3rd party applications to somewhat solve their problems, when the audio device should already be packaged with all this.
Repeat after me: you don't need Voicemeeter, there are much easier ways.
