  • [Software Linked Below!] This is a tutorial video on how to use various plugins and drivers with OBS so that you can send audio from your music applications using ASIO drivers in Windows, things like Cubase, Digital Performer, Ableton, Renoise, or in this case, Reaper, out into the internet on streaming platforms like Twitch and UA-cam. Further, we can use OBS's own functionality and additional plugins to make it function like a virtual webcam, having it effectively mix both its audio and video to become inputs into telephony software like Skype, Zoom, Slack, Discord, and other applications.
    Software used:
    OBS: obsproject.com/
    Reaper: reaper.fm/
ReaStream w/ ReaPlugs VST FX Suite: www.reaper.fm/...
    VB-CABLE Virtual Audio Device: www.vb-audio.c...
    OBS-VirtualCam 2.0.4: obsproject.com...

If this doesn't work, check your sample rates! When I tried this, my session was in 44.1 and OBS was trying to output 48kHz. The end results was that it didn't pick anything up. A foolish error on my part, but I felt that I'd share it.
A huge thank you to Mr Diamante for taking the time to do this. It has surely helped thousands already.

For anyone struggling: be sure to place the VST on your MASTER BUS. I was trying to do this for a solo live performance and spent over an hour trying to get it to work while having it active on a solo audio/recording track. Hope this prevents someone from doing what I did.

I've just spent 4 hours trying to get around the issue that happened at 5:00. Uninstalled and reinstalled everything, then there was no plugins being detected, then Reaper was acting up which is unusual for me. Untold amounts of hair ripped out because I didn't even consider you're work around using the input and the gain down. You have saved me so much time, and now rather than stream I think I should just go to bed. Thank you for the video.

Dude, thank you! As expressed by other people, this was the first video that made it work for me. No one was explaining that I needed to re-install the Reaper plugins at a specific file location for OBS to find them. I’m so used to being able to dictate this file location for Reaper to find them, but couldn’t figure out where OBS expected these files to be.

Good grief, the amount of time I have spent trying to get this working in an easy way.... and here is the answer! Before this, I was using the ASIO plugin in OBS, but had to connect cables on the back of my 6i6 from outputs 3 and 4 into inputs 3 and 4 and change the mix in Cubase to send to 3 and 4 as well as regular 1 and 2 stereo, which was a pain (and also made Cubase have some pops). Now, bingo, just reastream in Cubase stereo master and same in OBS, and it works with no cables or fuss! Never found this during repeated searches, but it popped up randomly, and thank goodness it did :) Thank you!

Simply the BEST!!! I have a FocusRite Scarlett 2i2 Gen3 that USBs to 2 Audio channels in Windows 10. However, Microsoft Teams only accepts one channel (USB1 audio) only. I hit MONO in OBS and used Vincent's method to install BOTH plugins and as long as I run OBS I can now have 2 channels mixed to that one audio channel in Teams. Great workaround!

Awesome. Awesome AWESOME !! Finally I got this problem solved..... The gain filter suggestion did the trick for me. The problem I had was this.... I have an Motu M4 interface that has 4 inputs. I don't know what the problem is but all the inputs show up in reaper but for some unknown reason in OBS I only see input 1&2.... My guitar is setup in Reaper (Input 1) and my Condenser mic is setup in OBS (Input 2) I still have to figure out why this occurs but for now I choose my unused webcam microphone as an audio input capure for my DAW in combination with 2 gain filters set to 0 . Otherwise I get some spillover from the webcam mic and then a slight echo occurs in my DAW signal. The only thing I have to do is mute my condenser in OBS when I'm playing. When I start to talk I unmute the microphone. The vitual webcam works perfectly in zoom. Thanks man !

Dude I have been trying send audio to OBS months ago and I couldn't get it to work. Now after some fiddling I even got it to work for Skype! For anyone who has a problem with not receiving audio in OBS. Check everything (windows reaper, obs) if they have the same settings as in bitrates, samplerates and channels. That fixed it for me. I originally posted a video on the DAW to OBS with ReaStream method quite some time ago but without any narration or description of the video, but thanks for taking this a step further and making it more accessible!
If we could only get Windows Device Drivers for inputs/outputs which accepted a ReaStream source as input/outputs that would be Grrrreaat. This would let us just route the output or input bus from our DAW directly through to Windows and make it practically universal, without requiring keeping OBS running to get the audio to the devices.
A perfect world would represent VB Audio Cable supporting ReaStream feeds natively without having to use OBS to bridge the gap.

I spend several days on how to stream DAW without metronome. Now I put Reastream on some group bus, where I route the desired audio to and made a separate track for the metronome. This is by far the easiest and best method. I tried Voxengo with Jbridge... latency was horrible.

Great video, but... I use Reaper to create backing tracks for bass and drums and then record my grand piano which is mic'd with 2 Rode mics going to a Behringer audio interface. With ASIO in Reaper. That works great for recording, zero latency. Problem is, ASIO cannot be used to send a signal to OBS, it only allows for Behringer 3/4 out which sends the signal back to the interface where I can monitor with the headphones. So, you have to use a different audio setup in Reaper to use VB Audio Cable. But, if I do that and I try to perform with that backing track live in a podcast situation on Streamyard for example, it works, but the latency is now at least 1/4 sec. so, I hear the Grand piano 1/4 sec after I hit a note. And it's also out of sync with the backing track. What I think I need to do is create a monitor mix with the bass drums and piano before the signal reaches the audio interface. But I don't know what gear I need to do that. Because the backing track is in Reaper on the computer. How do I play along with that, with zero latency, and get some reverb for the piano in the headphone for doing live performance? No one seems to have a video about this and I believe it's likely a common problem. I've tried a million ways to compensate for the latency but no luck. I was a podcat guest this morning and could only use the piano, not backing tracks. I simply monitor the piano in the pre-amp before the signal is sent to reaper or obs. Crazy stuff, can you help me?

Same here. I had tried Voicemeeter, but I use Pro Tools with a UAD Apollo interface which has its own DSP software and there was too much conflict between Pro Tools and Voicemeeter for the interface. Interestingly, I learned about the VST solution from another video that was using Voxengo Recorder as the plugin. There was an added process of converting the 32bit Voxengo plugin to 64bit using JBridge. That seemed to work, but In Pro Tools you have to "wrap" a non AAX plugin with a DDMF Metaplugin and I couldn't get the Metaplugin to recognize Voxengo.
I happen to also use Reaper for quick recordings and had no trouble with the ReaStream plugin. I'm using vMIX as the broadcast platform rather than OBS and all that was necessary was to load Metaplugin into the Master audio track in vMIX.
I can't thank you enough as I have been struggling all weekend to make this work!

So its pretty easy just take the output from your soundcard and hook it up to your capturecard and away you go. If your Daw machine is on the lesser side you might need one extra for the encoding.
If I need screencapping or play back video I use CamTwist but for the encoding always FMLE which is a more stable combo than OBS which half of the times wont even see my cams.

Really appreciated it. After trying a lot of audio re-routing ways, this is the solution that works for me with Ableton Live. Thank you.

Hi, I couldn't get SL-OBS to pick up the audio. I have "Restream-Standalone" added to my master track in Ableton but it's not outputting. Any Advice.

Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this :D
I had a low latency monitoring feature selected with my focusrite, and that actually prevented the reastream plug-in from working. After turning off the low latency monitoring, it worked!

Thank you very much, you solved my problem, I had already given up but I tried again and with more desire. since nobody teaches right in portuguese i looked for videos in english even without understanding much but following the steps.
Thank you very much, you contributed to my development in music production.

Your solution is the only one that worked!! Thanks so much!! I have a minor problem though - Cubase is now recording audio but if i'm recording my mic at the same time it doesn't get recorded. OBS recognises the signal, and it records mic on its' own but not together with Cubase! What can I do? (btw, I haven't downloaded the virtual cable software, ReaStream worked!)

    Works like a charm.
Found this since the usual voxengorecorder-solution that the whole Internet threw at me didn't work on my 64-bit S1. Thanks a lot. Saved me some money :)
