Today we’re discussing the Reastream plugin from the good folks at Cockos (creators of the Reaper DAW). Reastream provides a simple solution for getting audio out of your DAW and into OBS, and in today’s video I’ll show you how I set it up and use it for my own videos!

Missed the most crucial thing. Reastream will not show up in the filter list in OBS if you don't have the .dll in the correct folder. SONAR/Cakewalk user here since -99. It has to be in one of the following:
C:/Program Files/Steinberg/VstPlugins/
C:/Program Files/Common Files/Steinberg/Shared Components/
C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST2
C:/Program Files/Common Files/VSTPlugins/
C:/Program Files/VSTPlugins/

I did that and still won’t work like I can get restream in both daw and obs but still no volume from daw to obs

Didn't work with Windows 10, UAD TWIN USB - until I created a Audio Output Capture with the device set to Universal Audio Twin USB then applied the VST 2 filter - works perfectly now.
this was my fix aswell in 2024. 4 hours of fiddling and this is finally what got it working for me thank you so much hahaha

Thank you SO MUCH! This is ten times easier than that silly voicemeeter route that I kept running into. I actually already had the reaplugs installed for the eq and compression since OBS filters aren't up to par imo.

Hi Chris, Thank you very much for this video. I had a bit of trouble initially, as I am using a USB microphone (Blue Yeti) and an Audient id14 II and headphones. I had no inputs/outputs I wasn't using, so tried a vast array of different settings, including loopback, which didn't work, then lastly I downloaded, installed and disabled all of VoiceMeeter except the Aux Output, and used that as per your video, then it worked. I will be able to stream CakeWalk by Bandlab for Zoom singing lessons and for UA-cam streaming in a month or so. Bit of a challenge, but got there in the end, so thank you. :)

Did you have any issues with your guitar/instrument playing the clean signal through OBS as well as your SO audio? I can't figure our a fix to just capture the SO audio and not my raw signal

SO Awesome. Wish and the video appears. Here's a fun bonus idea for reastream.
Use it to send a modular VST on one computer, as audio to your other PC, so you can play and harness the full CPU power of Computer #1 to run a giant virtual modular patch, then record that to your DAW. Working In the box, becomes "in the boxes".

Great video thanks! At first I missed that you said to use an unused input to run the filter on and was trying to run it on my Steinberg interface, but kept getting the direct monitoring sound under the filter sound, which was horrible. all good now and I still have some hair left!
I have the same issue! Did you just install a random device? If so, how? I have no options to choose in OBS other than my audio interface

IIt's.usefull for audio interdaces without a loopback function.
With Steinberg Audio interfaces you have a loopback function so you can automatically stream the sounds from Cubase into OBS.
Yes, I also made a video on this.
amazing discovery, but one question, is there a audible latency between the two programs (cubase to OBS) like say you were maybe using it for a live session, great video sir i subbed!
This exact process did not work for me, but here's what did. Instead of making an audio input capture, make a media capture, add a blank or other audio track, loop it, add a noise gate that turns the audio off, THEN add ReaStream. Worked like magic

I set up Cubase 10.5 UR44 and OBS using Reastream just as you suggested. Works flawlessly....
EXCEPT
when recording to OBS the recorded sound is a little muffled. I spent a couple hours tweaking Cubase and OBS but could not get rid of the muffled sound.
did you manage to solve the muffled sound problem?
@@Firtzyk As a matter of fact I finally solved the problem 2 days ago after 4 or 5 months of messing with it. The problem was the audio signal was inadvertently running through my keyboard which is a Yamaha MX49. When I finally turned off the reverb on the keyboard everything worked just fine. What's odd is that I always made sure that the MX49 was set to act only as a keyboard controller.
The keyboard was set to act only as a controller and not access the synth sounds that are included on the keyboard.

@@willkuul8672 That's interesting, I'll have to check my settings. I have a loopstation connected in my set apart from the interface. Maybe the loopstation is causing the problem. In the settings I have the signal return from the looper effects to the mixer and back to the looper. And the loopstation is connected to the computer via USB. I need to experiment. Thanks for the hint.
I've used it for over a year now and the biggest issue i always have is when i put it on, it never receives audio in OBS until i restart my 2 programs and open them in a specific order... still can't remember which one i have to open first.
Thanks Chris, I want to perform singing and playing EWI triggering VSTi's. Using this method I can record my Voice, track, and VSTi's, my voice comes out both sides of the stereo field. I want to set up a mic for narration too (not to use at the same time I am performing) but I am only getting Ross's mic on one side. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Go in obs and make that input mono
I was trying to solve why the signal of the VST wasn't getting into OBS, and you were the only one saying select an audio source that you're not using" NOT default! but one that you're not using including your soundcard
@Chris Selim - Mixdown Online hello bro from Greece. How did you overcome Cubase from taking control of the Asio driver. When working on Cubase and using reastream to stream on Kick i loose the sound on Chrome or any browser. Any solution ?
