Many thanks! Eventually you shown me the way not only to record my DAW audio and mic, but also to send them with Skype using OBS monitor! I know that it was possible, but the key has been "use a dummy input source for the DAW" and NOT the VB-Cable. Thanks again!
Super helpful. I'm now able to get audio (Interface mic, desktop audio, local video, etc out of OBS into Zoom but I cannot hear the audio through my montoring device (interface) anymore because everything in OBS has been sent to VB Cable into zoom. Strange....
In case someone needs this (idk if its said on the video), I had trouble making ReaStream to receive the audio, but i fixed it by making the sample rate in OBS the same as my DAW

I'm using Amped Roots DAW for my guitar. I can hear the distortion from it in my headphones, but when I'm listening to my stream, it's coming out clean. Like Albeton isn't picking up Amped Roots and send it to Streamlabs, just a clean channel. Any ideas? Appreciate you man

However, ReaPlugs does not show in the plugin list in Pro Tools (2019.12.0). I've already trashed the "Installed AAX Plugins" preferences and opened Pro Tools which forces the rescan with no luck. Thanks so much for the tutorial. I can get it working but find it super inconsistent when it works. For example, it will be working and then I de-enable it in ableton, open a new scene file, add reastrea VST into the new project and it won't broadcast to OBS. The behaviour is unpredictable (but mostly not working) ... is it something odd like needing to quit ableton or zoom and re-open in a specific order? Appreciate any input. I'm trying to get it working to be tought ableton lessons. thx!
I have it all templated, so I'm not dynamically adding it on the fly. Also, I mostly use Reastream on the master bus and set up receive in my OBS streams.

I need to test if relabeling from 'default' in my first efforst may have thrown off connectivity later and explain why one scene file works but others don't. Not sure if that name is critical for connectivity. Really appreciate your tutorial. If i lock down this process I will post my results here for others.
Yeah I've been facing the same issue, constantly. Everything is set up perfectly, and Ableton is broadcasting the audio via reastream, but the reastream plugin in OBS simply won't pick up and received audio. It's blank.
@@MikhailCazi has it ever worked for you? Mine has but switching to a different Ableton project and adding reastream is instantly the thing that kills the signal. I need to test more but am suspicious of renaming the plugins from Default to Ableton (or being inconsistent with whatever I initially called it) might be an issue. Tbd. I'd love to hear if you make progress and how.

Great tutorial!!! Finally I can stream/give lesson with my drums fully miked!! But I have one question. I need to play with drumless tracks and also with a metronome, is there any way to run it from Cubase. I tried but they doesn't sound. Im using Cubase 9.5 Elements.
Unfortunately no. You could create a click track with groove agent that's on time with the bpm though, and that would sound through. Extra work, but it'll work. Hope this helps!
@@martinfrere6384 i did it! it's working fine! i've just put the plug in reastream at the master channel. don't forget that you have to change the name of the folder that you have your plugins to ''VSTPlugins'' in order to find them in obs.
This has been such a great help, but my only problem, and it's really frustrating me because I'm not sure if it's just a Windows problem or if my set up is too elaborate that the routing isn't possible, is that I now can't hear the output of the voice call on the same output. It's an either-or situation where I can either listen to my DAW and not hear anything else or listen to the voice call and not be able to tell what I'm adjusting in the DAW.
I'm on Win 7 64... installed the 64 version of reastream and when i load the plugin in the insert of the master bus in my Cubase 10.5 Pro reastream freezes Cubase. Twice! Any tips?
By default OBS looks for plugins in the c:\program files\VSTPlugins folder. As long as you install your plugin there, it will become visible in the dropdown
This was excellent, I did most of it just now. But I had to download NDI software tools and use a slightly different web cam setup as detailed by Awall Digital. Worked great. The last "mile" of OBS to an app through NDI has a ton of latency. So I'm debating to install VB Virtual Cable. I have to say, after my Potato experience on W11 I'm not confident. So, does anyone have experience with VB Virtual Cable or VAC (paid) Virtual Audio Cable under W11? Thanks
Thank you - I will give this a try! I have managed to get virtual-cam to provide the power of OBS to Zoom successfully, but never been able to get sound to work. For reference, I am using Sonar Platinum as DAW, and MOTU Ultralite3 (on Firewire - USB drivers don't play nicely!) It shouldn't be this difficult!
Getting there ... got sound all the way to zoom - had to install ReaStream to somewhere on OBS and Sonar VST search path, and make sure that the out steam and in stream have the same name. Getting very distorted sound in zoom, and sound is getting out to speakers somewhere (1.5s echo), but much further on. I am adding to your view count!
@@RonNewsham very late reply,but I've just solved this exact same issue for myself. Turns out in my case that my DAW/interface/project samplerate didn't match what it was set to in OBS. Setting everything to the same value is what fixed it for me.

@@acousticloungeduo Hi. Honestly I didn't set up the daw as an input until today (did it to try to answer your question about mono steam) . I haven't streamed anything to zoom yet but I did a recording in obs and just like you it records in stereo. I had been streaming using zoom but not from the daw and I can confirm that those calls were actually in stereo and with sort of high quality audio (of course I had to configure zoom settings to do so) I'll try to make a call with the daw my audio source and I'll let you know. I believe it'll be in stereo since I haven't Changed anything else in my configuration. Next time I write with the confirmation of stereo audio, I'll include a link to another video you can see to learn how I did my setup (I don't have the link right now but I'll look for it) . I should do it over the weekend. Until then.
@@acousticloungeduo there is one thing... I don't know if zoom still works like this but as far as I remember even after configuring zoom to broadcast high quality audio and a stereo signal, the person who is listening to you will always hear you in mono if they're using zoom mobile apps. The stereo audio can only be heard it if they're listening on a pc or mac. So maybe you're broadcasting in stereo but if you're testing on a mobile phone or tablet, you won't appreciate the stereo sound. However if you record the zoom meeting and then access the recording from a pc or Mac, you'll hear the stereo signal (assuming that all of your configuration is correct.)

@@meki09 Ok, i managed to do a zoom meeting in stereo using the DAW as my audio source following the instruction from this video combined with instructions from another video which further explains how to make a HQ stereo zoom meeting. this is the link to the other video ( ua-cam.com/video/LhEjMW299MU/v-deo.html ). Also instead of using regular VoiceMeter, I downloaded VoiceMeter Potato, which is a Donationware just as the AB Cable, and is the most advances VoiceMeter available. This new video should help you very much. When I tried my call at first the broadcast was in mono. However, on my zoom call on the top left corner of the window, there is an option that says "turn on original sound". If you don't see it, you have to dig into the audio properties of the app to activate that function. Once i "activated" Original Sound I can confirm that the other person was receiving stereo signal since I moved the pan on the audio channel in my daw and the other party could hear how the signal went from his left ear to his right ear. On the hardware side I'm using a focusrite audio interface and a condenser mic, plus a midi controller to play virtual instruments like a piano (which the other party could listen with no problem on the other side of the call, also in stereo). I hope this helps you. Thank you for replying my original comment with your question. That prompted me to try using the daw as an audio source for the first time, and by doing that successfully, a whole new word of options opened to me regarding music and live streaming. I´m getting mono sound on my streaming, and I don`t know why? The Vbcable seems like it`s stereo, and when I´m recording in OBS is stereo, but the streaming comes to mono, any thoughts on that?
Great video, But is the audio in stereo? I have followed this exact procedure but the audio received by other users in a Zoom session is not stereo. Am I doing something wrong? Is stereo audio not possible on a Windows PC for Zoom. I have seen MAC users do it because they have a more sophisticated virtual cable plugin available.
For ZOOM to get stereo there is another procedure of logging into the zoom portal and 'enabling stereo audio'. Also these are software(zoom, skype, hangouts etc.) and apps for communicating not for entertainment, so the quality will be far inferior than the quality of a DAW. In fact far less quality than even FB Live, UA-cam, Twitch etc.
This has been a huge help. It seems my audio is coming in (through zoom) a good 1-2 seconds before the video. I even tried increasing the audio delay in OBS, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe the Virtual Cable is being sent before OBS's delay? Any thoughts on how you might fix this?

Hi David. Thank you for this and your other videos. I’ve got an audio problem with OBS / Zoom I’m hoping you can help me with. I realize the value of your time and would be happy to cover a consulting fee if you could assist It should be quick and simple for you. It’s likely just a sound path logic issue for me. I run online training programs and use OBS assemble various scenes most of which are me on a background sent to over to zoom with Virtual Cam and I use my USB interface as input and output device from within Zoom. This is no problem and I can record with Zoom just fine. Some scenes I need to play media files (videos). But I as yet haven’t been able to get the desktop or media audio over to zoom I’ve set my interface as, default device, installed virtual cable and set virtual cable as monitoring device. OBS picks up my mic and sends it over to Zoom where Virtual cable is set as Mic But the media or desktop audio just will not go …. And it’s driving me mad. If you could help me see what I’m missing I’d be grateful. I’ve been screwing around with this for weeks now. And I like I said if you could help me I’d happy compensate your input. juist my 2 cents, maybe you could route your desktop to different audio outputs of your soundcard (NOT the main out), and create a bus in your Cubase/DAW to monitor it (you would plug cables from the chosen out channels into dedicated in channels of your soundcard). Then, as the desktop is being monitored into Cubase, it should go into OBS via the Cubase input and then to Zoom via VR Cable?

Reastream on Stereo Out in Cubase - select send audio - local broadcast. Add audio input capture as source. On the meter for the input you just added, right click and add a filter. Make that filter a vst 2.x plugin. Select reastream. Set it to receive audio and make sure the identifiers are the same. Hope this helps!
Hi David, so I got the audio into OBS,checking everything and its working ,great .I discovered that the Cubase ,Control room audio outputs were disconnected for some odd reason!! (maybe I forgot to connect them,lol) No I need to learn how to use OBS, I managed to record the sound,but no actual screen recording as such. So going to have a read, etc get to grips with OBS, Thanks again for your help,much appreciated
@@ambientdave Nice! I'm glad it works. You'll have to add a display input capture to record your screen and webcams, but there's plenty of resources to accomplish that on UA-cam.
Problem is when the plugins is in another folder that is not the normal steinberg folder... for that restream doesnt work then... Sadly. Sad panda eyes
I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with Zoom. The setup described in this video has been working great until today when I tried to have a piano lesson. Zoom is not recognizing the audio input from OBS (no signal level), even though signal levels in my DAW and OBS look fine and all my settings in all 3 apps are correct.
I wish I knew. I think an update to Zoom or Windows may be the culprit, but I'm getting similar results. I'll look into it and let you know if I'm successful.

@@soureel Not really, I used VB Cable in conjunction with VB-Audio VoiceMeeter, and it works, but the latency in monitoring is so annoying that I find it hard to use. So it's not really a good solution.
i cant find the reastream in the filter area... doesnt come up for me... i even redownloaded the reaplugins into the 64bit c/program files (for some reasonnit was downloading to 84, but thats the only one that works in cubase so im still as confused and frustrated as i was ti begin with)

Biggest problem is zoom and google meet really seem to throttle the audio. I’ve ended up live streaming to UA-cam. Maybe this plugin is better than Loopback

you may need to add the reaplugs folder into your list of folders to look for for VSTs. I think it is in the Studio dropdown.

ProTools isn't compatible with VST plugins anymore. There are VST loaders out there you can use in PT to be able to use VST's

I have it all templated, so I'm not dynamically adding it on the fly. Also, I mostly use Reastream on the master bus and set up receive in my OBS streams.
@@TalkingLeafMedia Thanks for your reply (and quick at that :). Your approach sounds like what I hope for as well (OBS templated, add Reastream as needed in Ableton). I need to test if relabeling from 'default' in my first efforst may have thrown off connectivity later and explain why one scene file works but others don't. Not sure if that name is critical for connectivity.

Yeah I've been facing the same issue, constantly. Everything is set up perfectly, and Ableton is broadcasting the audio via reastream, but the reastream plugin in OBS simply won't pick up and received audio. It's blank.
@@MikhailCazi has it ever worked for you? Mine has but switching to a different Ableton project and adding reastream is instantly the thing that kills the signal. I need to test more but am suspicious of renaming the plugins from Default to Ableton (or being inconsistent with whatever I initially called it) might be an issue. Tbd.

Great tutorial!!! Finally I can stream/give lesson with my drums fully miked!! But I have one question. I need to play with drumless tracks and also with a metronome, is there any way to run it from Cubase. I tried but they doesn't sound. Im using Cubase 9.5 Elements.
Unfortunately no. You could create a click track with groove agent that's on time with the bpm though, and that would sound through. Extra work, but it'll work. Hope this helps!

don't forget that you have to change the name of the folder that you have your plugins to ''VSTPlugins'' in order to find them in obs.
I don't have any other options under devices in OBS, how do I resolve this?
This has been such a great help, but my only problem, and it's really frustrating me because I'm not sure if it's just a Windows problem or if my set up is too elaborate that the routing isn't possible, is that I now can't hear the output of the voice call on the same output. It's an either-or situation where I can either listen to my DAW and not hear anything else or listen to the voice call and not be able to tell what I'm adjusting in the DAW.

I'm on Win 7 64... installed the 64 version of reastream and when i load the plugin in the insert of the master bus in my Cubase 10.5 Pro reastream freezes Cubase. Twice!

By default OBS looks for plugins in the c:\program files\VSTPlugins folder. As long as you install your plugin there, it will become visible in the dropdown
This was excellent, I did most of it just now. But I had to download NDI software tools and use a slightly different web cam setup as detailed by Awall Digital. Worked great. The last "mile" of OBS to an app through NDI has a ton of latency. So I'm debating to install VB Virtual Cable. I have to say, after my Potato experience on W11 I'm not confident.
So, does anyone have experience with VB Virtual Cable or VAC (paid) Virtual Audio Cable under W11?

Thank you - I will give this a try! I have managed to get virtual-cam to provide the power of OBS to Zoom successfully, but never been able to get sound to work.
For reference, I am using Sonar Platinum as DAW, and MOTU Ultralite3 (on Firewire - USB drivers don't play nicely!)

Getting there ... got sound all the way to zoom - had to install ReaStream to somewhere on OBS and Sonar VST search path, and make sure that the out steam and in stream have the same name.
Getting very distorted sound in zoom, and sound is getting out to speakers somewhere (1.5s echo), but much further on. I am adding to your view count!
@@RonNewsham very late reply,but I've just solved this exact same issue for myself. Turns out in my case that my DAW/interface/project samplerate didn't match what it was set to in OBS. Setting everything to the same value is what fixed it for me.

Are you on Windows? Also, Zoom has to be installed from Zoom's site, not the Windows store.

I´m getting mono, and I don`t know why? Have you figured it out? The vbcable seems like it`s stereo, and when I´m recording in OBS is stereo, but the streaming comes to mono, any thoughts on that?
@@acousticloungeduo Hi. Honestly I didn't set up the daw as an input until today (did it to try to answer your question about mono steam) . I haven't streamed anything to zoom yet but I did a recording in obs and just like you it records in stereo. I had been streaming using zoom but not from the daw and I can confirm that those calls were actually in stereo and with sort of high quality audio (of course I had to configure zoom settings to do so) I'll try to make a call with the daw my audio source and I'll let you know. I believe it'll be in stereo since I haven't Changed anything else in my configuration. Next time I write with the confirmation of stereo audio, I'll include a link to another video you can see to learn how I did my setup (I don't have the link right now but I'll look for it) . I should do it over the weekend. Until then.
@@acousticloungeduo there is one thing... I don't know if zoom still works like this but as far as I remember even after configuring zoom to broadcast high quality audio and a stereo signal, the person who is listening to you will always hear you in mono if they're using zoom mobile apps. The stereo audio can only be heard it if they're listening on a pc or mac. So maybe you're broadcasting in stereo but if you're testing on a mobile phone or tablet, you won't appreciate the stereo sound. However if you record the zoom meeting and then access the recording from a pc or Mac, you'll hear the stereo signal (assuming that all of your configuration is correct.)

@@meki09 Ok, i managed to do a zoom meeting in stereo using the DAW as my audio source following the instruction from this video combined with instructions from another video which further explains how to make a HQ stereo zoom meeting. this is the link to the other video ( ua-cam.com/video/LhEjMW299MU/v-deo.html ). Also instead of using regular VoiceMeter, I downloaded VoiceMeter Potato, which is a Donationware just as the AB Cable, and is the most advances VoiceMeter available. This new video should help you very much.
When I tried my call at first the broadcast was in mono. However, on my zoom call on the top left corner of the window, there is an option that says "turn on original sound". If you don't see it, you have to dig into the audio properties of the app to activate that function. Once i "activated" Original Sound I can confirm that the other person was receiving stereo signal since I moved the pan on the audio channel in my daw and the other party could hear how the signal went from his left ear to his right ear. On the hardware side I'm using a focusrite audio interface and a condenser mic, plus a midi controller to play virtual instruments like a piano (which the other party could listen with no problem on the other side of the call, also in stereo).

Great video, But is the audio in stereo? I have followed this exact procedure but the audio received by other users in a Zoom session is not stereo. Am I doing something wrong? Is stereo audio not possible on a Windows PC for Zoom. I have seen MAC users do it because they have a more sophisticated virtual cable plugin available.
For ZOOM to get stereo there is another procedure of logging into the zoom portal and 'enabling stereo audio'. Also these are software(zoom, skype, hangouts etc.) and apps for communicating not for entertainment, so the quality will be far inferior than the quality of a DAW. In fact far less quality than even FB Live, UA-cam, Twitch etc.

This has been a huge help. It seems my audio is coming in (through zoom) a good 1-2 seconds before the video. I even tried increasing the audio delay in OBS, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe the Virtual Cable is being sent before OBS's delay? Any thoughts on how you might fix this?
I don't know. I was playing around with this today, but couldn't quite figure it out. I'll let you know if I find a solution.

It should be quick and simple for you. It’s likely just a sound path logic issue for me.
I run online training programs and use OBS assemble various scenes most of which are me on a background sent to over to zoom with Virtual Cam and I use my USB interface as input and output device from within Zoom. This is no problem and I can record with Zoom just fine.
Some scenes I need to play media files (videos). But I as yet haven’t been able to get the desktop or media audio over to zoom
I’ve set my interface as, default device, installed virtual cable and set virtual cable as monitoring device. OBS picks up my mic and sends it over to Zoom where Virtual cable is set as Mic
But the media or desktop audio just will not go …. And it’s driving me mad.
If you could help me see what I’m missing I’d be grateful. I’ve been screwing around with this for weeks now. And I like I said if you could help me I’d happy compensate your input.

juist my 2 cents, maybe you could route your desktop to different audio outputs of your soundcard (NOT the main out), and create a bus in your Cubase/DAW to monitor it (you would plug cables from the chosen out channels into dedicated in channels of your soundcard). Then, as the desktop is being monitored into Cubase, it should go into OBS via the Cubase input and then to Zoom via VR Cable?

hi Dave! Cubase Nerds all over the place.
Reastream on Stereo Out in Cubase - select send audio - local broadcast. Add audio input capture as source. On the meter for the input you just added, right click and add a filter. Make that filter a vst 2.x plugin. Select reastream. Set it to receive audio and make sure the identifiers are the same. Hope this helps!

so I got the audio into OBS,checking everything and its working ,great .I discovered that the Cubase ,Control room audio outputs were disconnected for some odd reason!! (maybe I forgot to connect them,lol)
No I need to learn how to use OBS, I managed to record the sound,but no actual screen recording as such.
So going to have a read, etc get to grips with OBS,

@@ambientdave Nice! I'm glad it works. You'll have to add a display input capture to record your screen and webcams, but there's plenty of resources to accomplish that on UA-cam.

I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with Zoom. The setup described in this video has been working great until today when I tried to have a piano lesson. Zoom is not recognizing the audio input from OBS (no signal level), even though signal levels in my DAW and OBS look fine and all my settings in all 3 apps are correct.
I wish I knew. I think an update to Zoom or Windows may be the culprit, but I'm getting similar results. I'll look into it and let you know if I'm successful.

@@soureel Not really, I used VB Cable in conjunction with VB-Audio VoiceMeeter, and it works, but the latency in monitoring is so annoying that I find it hard to use. So it's not really a good solution.

i cant find the reastream in the filter area... doesnt come up for me... i even redownloaded the reaplugins into the 64bit c/program files (for some reasonnit was downloading to 84, but thats the only one that works in cubase so im still as confused and frustrated as i was ti begin with)

Biggest problem is zoom and google meet really seem to throttle the audio. I’ve ended up live streaming to UA-cam. Maybe this plugin is better than Loopback
