Hi I'm amazed at what your doing, as I want to restore an old vw classic camper van.. I'm a bit worried about the amount of black coffee your drinking, you need to take care of yourself like that car. I take it that's your son filming you, for his sake get yourself a juicer and alkaline your body and get you PH balance back to normal, as the coffee your drinking is acid and causes all manor of illness.. Your knees would improve a great deal and your put ten years on you life.. I can see you are a very kind person, this world needs you.
My wife is Scottish, can't understand her, but after I drink half a bottle of Scotch Whiskey (wee dram) she speaks perfect English. The Scottish translator works perfect every time...Thanks for the video, will try this now...
Good video! Really surprised you didn’t remove the interior and mask off the dash. It’s a really good idea to wear gloves and a respirator while using the POR15, safety first!! Thanks for showing the process it’s very helpful!!!
Many thanks Trev, I know and I really need to get updated on the videos as I did remove the interior but have been up to my eyes with work, home life and kids! 🤣 hopefully more to come soon. All the best. Stephen.
This is cool. Good job. I am going to try out. I am wondering if this stuff would harm rubber? Also would it strip paint? Saw some other molasses videos where they were soaking rusty things in a 10/1 water mix for like 2 weeks but I was wondering if you used it at a higher concentration brushed it on and wrapped it in saran wrap if it would work faster and KAPOW I saw your video.
So does this molasses/vinegar method harm paint? Suppose I smear it on painted areas that have some rust on them? Can I smear the molasses all over it, and hope that it will remove rust without harming the paint?
I"'ve learnd something new wich is good. As a German-Australian I understood alright exept the voice was sometimes too quite. Otherwise, thanks for this information.
Oh - another thing. The really liquid and cloudy type of apple cider vinegar is often full of nematode worms. Probably not harmful at all but it's still gross. The Chinese 'Good Health" vinegar is thick like a syrup and a lot better taste besides, and I've never heard of there being any worms in IT.....
Gettin the rust off ok...but love the look of the cleaned bare surface too....I'd clear coat it and beam with pride...:)....the coffee breaks are on time...
I see this is an old video, but want to ask about vinegar vs. molasses. Is there any reason why molasses is preferred? Seems the vinegar wouldn't have that fermented smell that turns some people off. Not to mention the attraction of bears.
Hi Anthony and thanks for your comment, there's nothing set in stone on this, it's just what I've always done, cider vinegar is also not too bad at removing rust, so I usually put it in there to thin the molasses down so it's easier to apply, given time molasses is very effective and contains malic acid (I think from memory)... Thankfully I don't have bears here in Scotland, except for a very nosey neighbour that could possibly pass off as one lol. You could even try diluting the molasses in water or apply the sticky mess as it is, but it may take a little longer to work. Please let me know how you get on and all the best.
Hey, I used the, pool of water and molasses method. Works well. Additional benefit is , mollasses and water don't freeze. It was -8C / about 17 F last night. The pool only becomes slushy. I don't even have it at the recommended 1:9 ratio. 2nd additional info, if you wash metal in distilled water, you won't get flash rust. If you do, the process is way slower. This is because tap water has chloride which is the second most reactant to bare metal. First is oxygen in air.
This is for Marco. Hey Marco it's Jason I just wanna say Reaper is not grim reapers son his name is Gabriel Reyes now the name is reaper Reyes tada 😂😂😂
Jesus mate, i really tried to listen and understand what you were saying but your accent was a bit too 'rustic'. In the end i had to use the captions...but even that is a bit hit and miss...in one part you said you 'soak it' but the caption said you 'suck it'...lol...anyway thanks for your video...
Haha In tears laughing here and your comments made my day :) Yes my accent get's me into bother at times. I work in the fruit trade and once a woman with big breasts came in looking for pears so I recommended the conference variety... When I was getting them I said "that's a nice pear by the way" unconscious of what I said I saw my mum running out the door spitting her coffee everywhere. PMSL to the suck it! I will need to get more videos up and caption them :))) All the best.
I watched an American documentary a while back and they were interviewing a brummy. They put subtitles up, it was so funny, even with the manually edited subtitles they still got it wrong.
Hi Robert There is never too much protection in the world of rust :) Yeah I would try it and jet wash it off if you can as it's also a good cleaner. I use por15 metal prep as it places a zinc phosphorous coating and I personally use converust by dinitrol on top followed by por15 itself to finish it and this works very well. Sorry for late reply and hope you had a fantastic Christmas.
I've always done this underwater, as it's a biological process, an anaerobic process wherein the yeasts & bacteria which live on the molasses will seek out oxygen everywhere they can find it, and thus you need an anaerobic environment - the plastic film MIGHT have some bearing on it, but I just don't think you're gonna have anywhere NEAR the effectiveness that you'd have with a proper DIP! Heck, the results you'll get from molasses, you're practically already there in the first place!
Awe lol There was quite a bit if you look close. Maybe if you watch video 1 you might see it closer on the cameras as the nasty red stuff is there ;) Have a banana :)
Hi king71vet Hope you had a nice Christmas. It would probably be better in the shade to let it do it's work, otherwise it would probably result in trying to unwrap a very sticky candy apple :)

Awe Brilliant :) I will need to tell everyone to have a wee dram before watching net time and I'll do the same! Shounds fun! Thanks for watching.
Candidate to the Nobel prize for rust removal.
Great vid

Fantastic job on saving an old car for the future. I hope it gets a hover conversion. Nice soul tunes by the way.
Thank you Sir!

Thanks for the information. I just have one question...would this mixture attract insects? My husband is allergic to bee/wasp stings.
Ive got a 28 model A thats very rusty and pitted. You think your molasses/ vinegar mixture would be strong enough given more rust to dissolve? Thanks
So does this molasses/vinegar method harm paint? Suppose I smear it on painted areas that have some rust on them? Can I smear the molasses all over it, and hope that it will remove rust without harming the paint?
Great video, did the same and forgot to treat my bare panels on My TR4A. Will go back and use your method.
Good video of the restoration !!.
Thank you 501Stratos :)

@@spo5egy Hey, thx for the quick reply. I'll keep you posted on results as I go along.

great vid, so detailed!
Thanks very much Sam, That means a lot :)
HipStar for Marco... sup my friend it's
Jason here
Great clip. I must have missed it but how long did you leave the mixture on the car before you cleaned it off?
Cheers
Mick
Hi Mick Thanks ;) More to come soon. Ideal to leave it overnight to work it's magic but have seen it work on surface rust in as little as a few hours.
It all comes down to how much time you have
Indeed... There is no quick fix for a lasting job.
Ever used Vinegar under the car before putting on more underfloor protection ?
Hi Robert There is never too much protection in the world of rust :) Yeah I would try it and jet wash it off if you can as it's also a good cleaner. Thanks my car (warthog) is rusty really useful 👍
Ah Brilliant, I love a good rust challenge :)

Molasses IS iron. Iron dissolves iron.
im really confused, there wasn't any rust. lol

HipStar didn't realize this was a follow up video. Lol. And I don't like bananas.
Lol I know, I need to make the rest of the videos but just been tied up in work just now. I went off bananas lol and I sell them for a living :)
Paint it grey like a real mouse.
Great video. Thank you...
Thanks so much for watching Clive! Best Regards
Can you this outside in the sun

Doesn't look any different than when you started???? Now your adding moisture with steam and water...when does the pancake mix go on???
Awesome
Thank You Master Chief!

Hi John :) I'm Stephen
Hi emelieo
In your next video, could you speak English? I can not understand you!
I will certainly try! 🤣 Thanks for watching.
