I wonder today, how many that jeered the byrds/ gram Parsons at the opry realize what a pivotal moment in history it was to dare to venture into such unknown territory, and produce such a critically acclaimed classic album. Its too bad theres still many who dont get it.
They both played on the legendary album Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I believe it was Lloyd Green who played the unforgettable pedal steel on Hickory Wind. Very interesting to see both the guys that played steel guitar on one of the greatest country music albums of all time.
Amen just Can't Beat It !.....Goodness Gracious ! Angels are Singing ! ol couple way down in TX 51yrs Anniversary 6-7-69 .....Mary and jd Forever and a Day MB !
I've always loved the sound of a pedal steel but only recently started paying attention to who's playing and players names. I never knew that Lloyd Green played the pedal on the Byrds/Gram Parsons version of this song. Great to go back and listen knowing he's playing.
To each his own..but the thumbs down person may have no clue how difficult is to get to this level as a steel player and should at least appreciate that.
I think someone has confused the sound of a push-pull Emmons with an "all pull". I don't remember J.D. ever playing an "all pull" although he possibly has. The Emmons on this is definitely "push-pull".

You saw it here folks….two of the very best.
Wonderful to see Lloyd playing again.
They are masters of the pedal steel, so smooth
How could someone click on thumbs down? This is so pure...nothing pretentious...just plain good music. Thanks for posting RC
Thumbs down = brain dead.
No hats.
Don't understand what they're witnessing, or smoking crack.
I hear ya, man - WTF?
We've lost so many of the true greats over the years. I dread the passing of Mr. Green........
he isn't dead sir...
2mHe probably does as well...☺

I hear ya, Friend - yes, they were both on "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" and both great steel men
Love the sound of the old Sho-Bud and Jaydee's all pull Emmons, you just can't beat the sound.
JD's Emmons is a push-pull.
The top two greatest pedal steels even made ShoBud and the Emmons.
They only sound great with a music maestro controlling it.

Big thanks from the rapidly dying off steel guitar community...
Plus the great Al Perkins on rhythm guitar.

My goodness this sounds a heck of a lot like “Satisfied Mind”
Yes, My Friend, it does...definitely some similar melodic lines.
catch he's licks on Austin city limits show, wow!
That sure likes like Paul Franklin on drums. That brings the total up to 4 steel players on this tune.
Doesn't even sound like Hickory Wind. That song belongs to Gram Parsons & that's it.
