My instrumental version of a classic Tammy Wynette song played here on the Sho~Bud This and other backing tracks now available for mp3 download at www.tonybrownepsg.com
This is absolutely beautiful. No instrument can capture melancholy like the steel guitar. Even if it's in an upbeat song, there is a hint of sadness, but in a good way.
This steel guitar playing reminds me so much of my daddy’s steel guitar playing. He could hear a song once and play the song in it’s entirety, then would record himself playing alongside the original track on a reel-to-reel. He would play it and record it on a cassette tape for listening to while on road trips to visit my grandparents in S. GA. Ain’t nothing prettier than a steel guitar solo in the middle of a song. Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories of my daddy, Ronald E. Rigg (1937-1999).
@John Herb Yes, it is in a league of of it’s own. Today, there might be 1,000 guitarists and maybe 100 pedal steel guitarists in a group of 1 million musicians..Out of both kinds of the guitarists, there might be 10% who are really great. Btw, my daddy also played the harmonica well, but his steel guitar playing was way better. What’s a real shame is that Tony Browne passed away this year. So that the number of greats has dropped again.
It warms the heart knowing that there are still musicians out there who are playing this style, and also that there are over 2 millions people who have watched this vid .. Whether we play country, blues, classical, hard rock, metal, rock-a-billy, jazz, etc, we're all bonded by this love of the guitar , and the obsession with string gauge, tube amps, picks/finger picks/no picks, vintage gear and the lifelong quest for THAT tone ...
It was a sad day when I found out that Mr. Tony Browne passed. I only found his steel playing about a year ago. He sure knew how to make that steel sing. RIP Mr. Browne.
@@bobberry5881 It is true, I went to his web site and it showed that it was for sale. I did some more digging and found another site on steel guitar news and it stated there that he had passed in August I believe. I forgot to list what site I found it on as I was kind of shocked by it.

Country music was built on this type of sound and should go back to it. Country performers today should be ashamed to call themselves country musician.
Dear Deana, How I too would love to hear Christian hymns played with a steel guitar, twin fiddles, perhaps a dobro, etc. No one likes CW music at my church, so I’ll have to wait until we all gather up yonder. 🤔👍🙏✝️ Joke: What’s the difference between a violin & a fiddle? 🤔
I wish I could play this instrument so much! The most painful songs have the most beautiful and haunting steel guitar solos. Your steel guitar skills are the best of the best!
Just listened to this last night and I must say, your version Mr. Browne, far exceeds any I've ever heard. The melody is beautiful on its own but your pedal work is masterful and the sounds you get are the VERY best I've heard from any steel player. Now I'll spend today listening to your other offerings on UA-cam. Thanks Mr. Browne.
Tony, everytime I get depressed I come to utube and listen to your great music, Your music is the way country music should be, YOU are really inspiring, I wish O could play just like you!!!!
That’s the way it used to be everyone loved the pedal steel just like this sweet memories video in the background my friends used to listen to country music until the day the steel guitar went out of it we all did ,period ,we no longer bought stopped listening to it after that it was as though that’s when the steel guitar went out of it and country music died for us in other parts of the world shame really.
Absolutely the most beautiful steel guitar piece I've ever heard!!! My real Dad used to play the steel with my Mom (on guitar and accordion) in bands and on radio years ago in California~
Steel guitar is so relaxing music to me..I was blessed that I had a MOM, that played Steel guitar..Now she's in heaven playing with the 😇 angels..She also had an all girl country band in her days...miss you MOM AND LOVE YOU..
This is one of the better clips of a peddle steel guitar in operation, where we can see all the movements and coordination needed to produce the beautiful music. It's not enough to just see the hands as most people often don't realise just how much more is going on below the fretboard.
You are right. Its not country without it. I tried for a few years to play one. I am a multi instrumentalist but the pedal steel is amongst the hardest to master. Such a BEAUTIFUL American country sound. You can't beat it. Should be "" in the steel guitar we trust" because??????? It represents you!! Pete
When I was a teenager I would listen to WCKY in Cincinatti at night when the signals came into Western PA and their theme song was the Steel Guitar Rag. Learned to love it.
the pedal steel guitar makes me think of the country music from to 70s. you could hear steel music in truck stops, bus stations, bars, or just any place that always had music playing over speakers. back in them days, you always heard it in truck stops playing in the background. i miss them days
This is way nice. So glad to have come across this. I love that era of Country Music. It is the best, and Tammy was a defining star, along with George. Thanks for sharing this. I will check out your website.
Incredible dexterity along with many hours of practice to be able to play pedal steel guitar this well. Even more so when it's played so 'silky smooth' in this fine example of Tony's rendition of this song. Great playing. Cheers!
Wow. This brings back some memories. Memories of things/times when it seemed like life wasn't as complicated. In listening to this it makes me think that in some small way that I'm trying to recapture my youth.
Uncle Eddie Yasso played gospel songs in Rockhampton shopping mall, the shop keepers closed their doors. When he played Amazing Grace and Old Rugged Cross shop doors opened up the owners and customers all came and stood watching this grand old gentleman playing his pedal steel. Few oldies got teared up. Moran bar shopping centre, town park Innisfail the list goes on. RIP.❤💪👍👏
What a brilliant musician not enough hours in the day to listen to you and that amazing sound thanks tony pity you don't put all these lovely tunes on CDs
As a kid I would always hear the steel guitar in many Ernest Tubbs song played by my mother. The wavy borderline psychedelic sound always used to make me feel really weird but I bloody love it. One could not be more grateful for her raising me on true southern country music rather than the usual shit here in the UK
Just loved this so much I love the sound it is so embracing if you think about it. Your Awesome Tony. You must have played for the big stars as you are a star yourself. Beautiful thank you so much for making my day.
Excellent performance! If I could learn to play one string instrument, that would be it. It has a human voice quality that moves me for some reason. I have played the Hammond B3 for close to 50 years now and I am not afraid of instruments with pedals!
Was is Nashville last September from glasgow went for my late dad he loved the possum g jones m haggard waylon all had huge electric steel guitar input to their incredible vocals will never leave me love them all
Hey John, Ken here. Long time no talk. Missing you everyday and all the times we spent in that old truck kissing each other. I still play the steel guitar and still have the same hot licks I did back in the day. DM me if you want to reunite.
Dave is one of the finest steel pickers. His transitions up and down the neck are spot on. If it gets your attention, its not the tune selection. With John on the Telecaster playing alongside it transcends most of what we have heard previously. Some seem upset because many àre unfamiliar with his work. He could plày alongside anyone. He plays where he chooses.

I so miss the cry of the Steel guitar such a beautiful classic sound that country is missing today it needs to get back to its roots

I am young and learning, been playing guitar for a while and the art is definitely not dead so far.
I could listen to this all day long instead of that pop shit they call country
and that CRAP or Country Rap
Robert Stiles I called the staff that's coming out of Trashville exactly what it is.....more pop music I totally agree with you
Do u like Cody Johnson? He’s a new artist but he actually makes real country music. It’s not pop
Today's so called country music musicians don't even know what a steel guitar is.
faceman2556 if you want to hear some true country music in this age listen to Dayrle Singletary
Steel guitar has such a fantastic sound when played right.. relaxing
Oh yeah that's for sure, blessings

Two instruments that really get into your soul- the steel guitar and the bagpipes.
Yes indeed. I would like to add the saxophone, if I may.
it seems everyone has an instrument that reaches their soul. everyone is beautifully differant
yes it does and thoes are my favorite instuments
Love the sound of bagpipes in the morning. What's better is a parade of bagpipes and drummers together.
Lose the badpipes
THANK YOU TONY BROWN, FOR THE MOST BEATEFUL BEAUTFUL COUNTRY MUSIC ,SINCERLY MICHAEL B.

exactly
Good country music died with George Jones and Merle Haggard... Now I call it Suburban Pop...
@westbender 820 Today's so-called Country music is assembly line, soul-less manufactured crap...what I call soccer Mom suburban Pop.

AGREE! Yup. That would show them! But they have not listened before, wishful thinking.
Lord, just rips your heart out...it's what country is all about...REAL Life...superbly done by Tony Browne...thank you sir.
I've always loved this instrument. Uncle used to have one. Only need someone who could play this in church services singing country gospel❤🌹

From California here... not from the country at all... but I just love this sound... something about it warms my heart... 🥲
Takes me back to being a kid. My grandad played a steel way back then. Thanks for sharing, taking me back for even a few minutes.
Country isn't country without the steel guitar (and fiddle ).
Yep
TJ N true, homie
Without that steel guitar and without that sweet sweet sound it makes country music is no more
If you're gonna play in Texas...
All I ask is that they burn the banjo. I hate banjos.
As long as there are pedal steel guitars in the world I will never cry alone.
This is what makes country music for what it really is without the steel guitar it's just not country period....
Your right, it isn't the country music I want to listen to without a Steel.
Old Timer: I agree 100%!!
So did Ray Charles. If you don't think that racists are affiliated with all different genres of music, you're an idiot.

Alan Young why bring up that nobody was being racist?
Country music back when. Beauty is in the ears of the beholder, and this is gorgeous.
Excellence for me one of the Classes Greatest Instruments in History I Love it !!!
Beautifully done! Can’t believe anyone would give a thumbs down to that incredible performance. Nicest rendition I’ve ever heard, thank you! 👍👍
What Tammy Wynette song is this?
There is not any country music much anymore.just pore copies, where is the song writers, gone pop is not country.?out
I wish I could play this instrument so much! The most painful songs have the most beautiful and haunting steel guitar solos. Your steel guitar skills are the best of the best!
Theres no country lovin song wothout the steel guitar...pulls at every heart stimg stirs the soul...THANK YOU SO MUCH
Love this piece of music. So so soothing.
Makes me feel like it’s 1990 again and I’m standing with my family in church listening to a family of traveling Christian musicians.
👍✝️🙏🎸🎻🪕😀
From what I gather it’s takes a musical genius to play one of these. It takes both hands, feet, and knees.
Sounds like a copter pilot...............
