There have been - and still are - hundreds of fabulous steel players. Yet, close your eyes and listen to 100 of them, and you just know when it’s Buddy Emmons. His tone floats. It’s ethereal. To me, he was in a class of one.
No matter what brand guitar he is playing, or where he is playing....The tone, and sound is the same, there was and always never be but one Buddy Emmons. RIP
Sho Bud has a unique sound but sooner or later you'll have to work and renew the undercarriage where the Emmons push pull is a walk unto it's own. I use a GFI simply because I have no dealers or instructors within 200 miles and GFI is
Fiddles and guitars might give Country Music it's 'Identity' but the Steel Guitar gives it "soul" and to have the greatest player doing his own song is breathtaking. R.I.P. Big "E".
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
I remember Buddy's right foot coming through to work the pedals, next to the left foot. And like he could do anything in his sleep. And after death, he can still bring up my tears.
There will never be another pedal steel player with the exquisite taste that Buddy has. Thanks to the people who put the effort in to upload these videos and to the copyright owners for allowing their footage to be broadcast..... AND thank goodness for UA-cam, so we can all enjoy the greats all over the world.
Without going into detail, I'm soon to cross that Rainbow Bridge myself, but I take strength from the fact that I saw this 'God' of the steel guitar perform live. I also have his autograph. RIP....
Except Buddy Rich was an insufferable arrogant man who hated country music , he famously said in hospital when the nurse asked him if he was allergic to anything he said Country Music. He didn't survive the operation.....God loves country music. :-)
Any steel guitar players in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio or Michigan should comment below, step forward and be counted. I play this music but can hardly ever find good steel players, and would be privileged to hire you in the future. Thanks very much! BTW Buddy's albums w/ Danny Gatton are the most outrageously incredible playing I've ever heard, if you're not hip to those albums, go buy them.
My father was hugely influenced by mr Buddy Emmons. Check out Gary Holton & Casino Steel with "Goodnight Irene". I think he nailed that one pretty hard :D RIP dad, hope you're playing with Buddy somewhere as we speak.
Does anyone know where I might get my hands on any of Laney Hicks' CDs? I understand that she recorded 3 different CDs, but I can't find *any* of them in the normal retail channels. ???
@@1krazykaraokegranny Yeah, but those are mostly just singles and/or misc stuff that she did with Charlie McCoy. I know that she released 3 complete country CDs of her own: The Last Letter, Matters Of The Heart, and A Tribute To Connie. I've got "Matters Of The Heart" but I can't find the other 2 anywhere. A good friend of mine managed to find a few random tracks from each of her 3 CDs, which he provided me with copies of, and they're terrific. Sadly, they only cause me to want even more!! ;-)

What an astounding steel guitarist , Buddy Emmons.
The world’s foremost steel guitarist. What fool would downvote this ?
To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln: You can't please all of the people all of the time!....
He plays with such patience. It creates a feeling that just floats in the air.
Almost all of the world's GREATEST pedal steel players on one stage at the same time. What a great job by Mr Emmons. Never be another.

Ethereal is a good word to describe his playing. It certainly transports you to a higher plane. Like all great art, it has a spiritual component.

Buddy, simply beautiful❤

@Beau Jamie Instablaster :)
He also gave jazz its identity too.

Buddy is the FATHER of STEEL GUITAR !
It's sad to think that those great times and sounds are almost gone forever........
I was thinking the same thing, I wish I would have went to more of them, something always got in the way
God his tone is amazing

I’m sorry to hear that. I wish you strength and peace on your journey.
@@rice_cracker_ Thanks for your kind words. I plan to keep going as long as I can though! 👍
I'm glad that you got to meet him. I'm a Piano player but always loved the steel. I just discovered him on UA-cam a few months ago. What a gift he had
Man, how did he get that tone! Wow! What a touch!
Yeah, and there is a lot of playing there but Buddy never makes it sound overcomplicated and he never sounds out of control .
Buddy Emmons is to steel what Buddy Rich was to drums. No one can replicate his sound. We'll miss you Big E.

I don't play the steel and not even sure how I got here, but THIS got me ! Beautiful.
Find my weakness is too strong! Oh wow!!!!
Laney Hicks gives me chills IM in LOVE with her she is beautiful in my eyes and her singing is of the hook
He is the Legend , the best of the best ! His notes are emotional . They seemed blending to the voice of singer .
A perfect harmony !
Buddy Emmons! Omg! Prettiest steel playing ever!
You're pretty dang good yourself...
Beautiful. His playing is divine. The legato is wonderful. The harmonies are heavenly. The notes flow like honey.
Well you got to love that intro. I have listened to this over and over. Will never get tired of the pros playing pedal steel.
What more could I say abou The Great Buddy Emmons that hasn't been said yet?
Talent at its best,God bless him
Buddy crushed my heart!
just unbelievable....what a touch !
Buddy and Laney - it just does not get any better!
There was nobody that was ever better than the big E From Tennessee
Don’t agree I liked Ralph Mooney better.

Suc a shame he's playing a 'Zum' here....
I prefer Ralph Mooney on steel.
Saying with his facial expressions
“This thing is out of tune”
killing it, you need the Franklin signature speaker.
