When I listen to Boston so do my neighbors
Yes, SIRRRR! Me, too.. And the neighbors don't mind!!!
Boston should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! The fact that this hasn't happened yet is unbelievable! One of the best Rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s! About time they get their flowers!
Not?????
Ya, and they let hip hop in the rock and roll hall of fame, makes no sense
FACTS !!!!!
Definitely!
HoF is a joke. No Bad Co. Foreigner, Meat Loaf, Iron Madien, the list is ridiculous
Brad Delp vocal range was just insane and the high notes he effortlessly hits are just out of this world. No auto tune either just pure talent from one of the greatest rock voices of all time. RIP Brad Delp.
I put Delp right up there with Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry in vocal range.
LIKE A KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER ❤❤❤
used in movies too.
Brad Delp's voice was just stunning, and his smile could light up an entire stadium. RIP Mr. Delp, we miss you. take care of your mental health and check in on your loved ones, friends, because you might not know when someone is struggling.
Post Viet Nam, young men were still expressing their liberated selves by not wearing their hair short and conforming. Drove the adults crazy!
I am so lucky to have lived in their era. Best vocalist in the 70s.
Goes into that note and leaves the planet... then he leaves the planet AGAIN!
Whats even better is that there was ZERO autotune. Thats his real voice.
No auto-tune, Just pure talent...
In my opinion Boston had the best debut album ever.
@Jeff Sargent Guns and Roses debut album is a very close second to Boston'.
@@ricknblueridge and Van Halen's "Van Halen" a close third.
Def leppard's ..not too bad either..
Boston, The Cars, The Knack. You got it right!
and The Doors
Brad Delp the greatest vocalist ever. Boston the greatest band ever.
RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. Incidentally this song has won numerous polls for best rock song of all time. And the story of how Tom Scholz basically created the entire album by himself (except for the vocals) in his basement is legendary.
Facts!
Tom Scholz did do the entire album except for like 10 month with some vocal. After about 10 months the singer, Brad Delp RIP, realized there was no band.
A label company said for the band to come to CA to record and Tommy said no.
The label company force a song from the album to be recorded in CA and I think it was "Take Me Home Tonight."
I think Tommy was an graduated engineer from MIT and working for Poloroid at the time. Don't quote me on sentence as it has been many years since I watched the Jananese video that was subtitled in English here on youturd.
@@michaelmayfield3158 Youturd LOL 🤣
Concur 10000%
The song embodies what rock/music in general is about.
He didn’t play drums on the album
Boston is a band that can’t be played loud enough. The hair and the mustaches were the style back then, not the testosterone. Brad Delp’s vocals are legendary. Great pick.
How else do you think he grew the mustache........ What do you get when a female can grow a mustache? The woman has higher testosterone, 100%
@@Clandestined13 What the hell are you talking about?
Dipshit said the testosterone wasn't in style back then. How the Fuck did they grow the mustache, then. My statement was no less nonsensical than yours. Despite the fact mine has some logic behind it if you know how to think critically.
Definitely need to be blasted on 11!!!
Oh, such a bummer…not the whole song…the second verse has been cut out! That’s the second reaction video to this song where that’s happened…definitely check out the whole song. Gtreat review, glad liked it!
This takes me right back to being a teenager driving my '77 Mustang, with Boston 8-track on full blast.
No autotune, no fakery on the track, just pure talent.
No auto tune! Just remember that about these 70’s and 80’s bands, it was all their own natural voices!
Agree
mainly 70s this was 1976
Brad Delp’s voice would make Autotune tap-out and beg for mercy.
Polo, Sib Hashian (drums) passed away during a performance on a cruise ship in 2017. His daughter, Lauren, is married to Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson; she's a singer-songwriter. The Hashians are local to me; losing Sib was a very big kick in the teeth. Brad Delp (vocals) passed in 2007. Another huge kick. Boston was an absolutely incredible band; there will never be another like them.
THEY DONT MAKE SONGS LIKE THIS ANYMORE, WE REALLY REALLY NEED TO BRING THIS BACK
Agree
Greta Van Fleet sounds very classic. More like Led Zeppelin than Boston but still a great sound.
I miss it so bad.
Except the lead singer, Brad Delp, died by suicide back in 2007.
It was always amazing because every time you thought he was as high as he could go, he would go higher...
On the beach in the 70’s, radio on loud playing this song, thinking I’m going to 13 forever. RIP Brad
This band was so underrated. And his voice is right up there with Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury.
Can't forget Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), Chris Cornell, and that dude from the Cult!
@@gabriellenojaim261 Bruce Dickinson.
@@gabriellenojaim261Ian Astbury!
@@ChessieChess YESSSSS! And what STAGE presence Ian had! I LOVE the way he moved his feet!
Nobody compares with Steve Perry. Brad was good too but not comparable to Steve Perry.
Damn, this made me back out of a video to come watch this. Boston has been my favorite group for about 33 years. I love their stadium rock sound, and the lead singer has an incredible voice.
I’ve seen Boston play twice in Charlotte N.C. One of the best bands. This was back in the 70’s. Still a great band.
They are my ultimate "comfort" band. So good, they are now timeless.
What's crazy is that the founder of Boston, Tom Scholz played most of the instruments on the first album. He is a musical genius. He did this while working a full time job outside of music. This band is unique.
100% my all time favorite
Brad Delp had a range that almost covers the entire piano keyboard. He covers above 4 octaves in this song alone. Too bad we lost him many years back due to personal demons. (depression).
Brad Delp had a miraculous voice. I wish he had been able to grasp onto some hope in his darkest hour. But I am grateful for the legacy of his astonishing vocals.
The first time I hears Boston, More than a Feeling, I was driving from Vancouver to San Francisco; I actually had to pull over and stop the car. My head almost exploded.
Keep in mind that my generation only heard this music on the radio or listening to an album- not watching videos. Watching videos of bands we love is like watching a great movie for the first time.
....As someone who is 60 something Years Young... I had the great pleasure of seeing this performed at a Concert in the late 70's....absolutely phenomenal.
It's still at the top of Concerts I've attended, and I've attended HUNDREDS, over many years living in Vegas at the time.
Mr. Brad Delp had such range ....Also, I believe he was underrated, which actually escapes me as to " why " .....his Range was incredible, his voice... unmistakable. And dare I say " Legendary "....such a loss, that he left the Earthly Plane in such an unexpected way.
This song ,written by Tom Sholz, is actually quite complex, and it is NOT an easy Song to sing... I always felt that this Song was created to have Brad Delp singing it .... the whole Band is ( was ) amazing ,as far as Musicianship .
Oh....and the hair ... that was one of the great things about 70's/ 80's/ 90s Music... better than all the " non- hair ' going on today ... but then again..I love long hair on men. I was a bit in awe of this mans ( Brad Delp ) gorgeous hair, eyes, and mustache.
From one of the few PERFECT albums of all time. Every single song is fantastic, the musicianship is stellar, and the recording/production is as good as it gets!
No Group Could Ask For A More Iconic Debut Album From Beginning To The Very End.
..R.I.P. Brad
I also put Bad Company Bad Company up there.
Guns & Roses has entered the chat.
IMO Brad Delp was one of the best vocalists of any era. Man what a talent. RIP.
Boston is the best rock band from the 70s these guys are Icons here in the U.S. this is one of their best .
Long hair was the style back then for young men (and women), starting in roughly the mid-60's and going all through the 70's. When you're young and full of vitality, you can grow some great hair. I grew up in that era, and I had hair so long at one point that it almost reached my belt in the back. We gloried in our long hair! 😊 As for "More Than a Feeling", it might be the most perfectly written and performed rock song of all time. It's certainly in the top 10 or so, if not the best of them all. Between Tom Scholz (who wrote, produced, played most of the instruments on the record, and arranged it all) and Brad Delp (with the utterly amazing vocals) you've got an absolute musical masterpiece in that song. And yes, it does sound like a summer song. Just beautiful.
An extremely talented band. The engineering was flawless
The engineer and song writer was the guitar player Tom Sholz, it was recorded in his basement, an electronics genius, worked as an engineer at Polaroid before this.
@@BustedJunkStudio , MIT dude, too. Tom played all instruments for 1 album while Brad laid down vocals, I believe.
One of the selling points was "no synthesizers."
Yes. MIT students. I wish I could have been at one of their concerts at their height of fame as they started performing this. So awesome!
I was a young man during those days the best voices, lyrics, arrangements, and musical talent ever!!! The crazy thing was it wasn't one great band or singer there were hundreds!!!
Ii was in high school when BOSTON came out..
We all LOST OUR MINDS
LOVE YOUR REFERENCE TO THE GREATEST
FREDDIE MERCURY!!
Three things. 1) Sholz makes it look so damn easy. 2) Brad's voice helps define a musical time. RIP. 3) "Be you, they'll adjust". 🔥
NOBODY like Boston. What's not to love? Soaring guitars and soaring vocals to die for. They were an absolute force of nature.
Their first album was a work of genius, and is criminally underrated.
Next up: Boston - Peace of Mind
😂 I was in high school in the 70’s. If you looked at my yearbook you would see tons of mustaches and Afros. 😂 I’ve seen Boston perform live. Superb! And the mustaches were magnificent!
Agree
This takes me back to freshman year of college Spring break! Aah, sweet memories!
" Tom Scholz, a multi-instrumentalist, plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970s. A fan of rock music throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT.[2] The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, primarily using devices he invented. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents related to his work at SR&D over the years."
You need to just diwload the whole album and listen to it nonstop. Now imagine you are 18 years old, just starting college and you have never before heard an album like this where every single song is pure gold. I can still remember that time
His voice was phenomenal! Love Boston and the "big hair" era.
You watched a shortened (single) version of the song. So you know, Boston is Tom Scholz and Brad Delp. Tom wrote, recorded and produced the album in his basement studio. Home studios were extremely rare in the 1970's. Tom plays ALL instruments except drums (played by Sid Hasian) on the album. The phenomenal Brad Delp does ALL lead and harmony vocals. Tom also designed and built custom effects (the powersoak, hyperspace pedal, doubler and later the Rockman amplifier) to create the legendary Boston guitar sound. Fran Sheehan (bass) and Barry Goudreau (guitar) were added as part of the live band.
Where ever I am, if this comes on , I'm belting it out and wishing I was a teen in the 70s
Boston was an amazing band with an unmistakable sound, Nobody else sounds like them.....Nobody.
This right here is the greatest rock song of all time. Boston was complete magic!!! There aren't enough words!!!
Definitely one of the best rock vocalists EVER!!!
Really sad he’s no longer with us.
My favorite all time song. Sunrise pool, 14 yrs old, summer…perfection!
If you really want to hear how absolutely spectacular this song really is, then find the video that isolates their tracks and voices. My Gosh! Increadible! You'll never hear this song the same way again!
I was not born until the 90s, but the 70s/80s rock scene from this era.... is just the best. It somehow captures the nostalgic feeling of a time I didn't experience. That is so special.
I was born in 1970, and all of this music takes me back to road trips with my parents.
@@supergirl0526 our road trips of the 90s was mostly Madonna & Natalie Imbruglia (my moms favorites) or Metallica (my dads favorite). Both iconic lol
Brad Delp could hit it like no other - RIP 😊❤
Camping in 77. We had 1 tape and a cheap tape deck. Listened to the album till the batteries died. Great memories. The entire 1st album is friggin amazing.
Tom Scholz was the genius behind the music. He had a degree from MIT. Boston was one of my favorite bands ever. The way they harmonized the guitars was what caught the ear right away! I would love to see your reaction to my favorite song on this album. "Hitch A Ride" contains a great harmonized guitar solo!!!
Hitch a Ride is amazing. My favorite as well. Every single song on this album got airplay and every one of them could have a been a hit single.
Carry me away for the last time woe yeah!🎸
I’ve always loved the harmonizing guitars. Why didn’t more bands do this???
This is when music was real .. no backing tracks no computer bs straight up Rock n roll
Greatest song ever! This song moves me every time I hear it.
I’m coming up 80 years old……miss the time and miss the bands!🎸miss my hair too!
one of my favorite songs of all time.
Boston is a party band. I drove with this 8 track on max volume through my teen years. Love love them! They are very unsung band. Lead singer died young. Incredible voice and guitar
Boston gives me the most 70's nostalgia! I just feel as if I'm back there when I hear their songs
A monster hit in late 1976, early 1977. It was their debut song on their debut album. Recorded in the garage of Tom Scholz, who wrote the song, and who sent the demo tape to Epic Records, who decided to release the album using that very same demo tape.
The song is considered one of the best rock songs, ever. And the album considered one of the best debut albums of all time.
It is my understanding that yes, it was recorded in their basement and once the record execs heard it they wanted to set up a time for the band to come into the studio and record it, but Tom Scholz didn't want to. Said it was good as is. So the record execs let the studio wizards listen to it and they said....yes, it's good to go as is. Footnote: Tom Scholz has a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
@@jacksaintjack2844 watch this NPR short film with Tom, he gets into all of that ua-cam.com/video/NYXgfzVjrTw/v-deo.html Tom Scholz - Sound Machine
@@jacksaintjack2844 Close. There was a video on this and Tom himself said the execs wanted a new recording. As Tom was walking out of the meeting he stopped and turned around. He asked, "Can I mix it and master it?" The studio said yes. He waited a while and turned in the original masters and the rest is history,
This is all bullshit. The demo tape could not be played. It's on UA-cam, and you can hear it WANTING to be this album, but on the demo tape, it wasn't even called Hitch a Ride. "California Day".
Not a garage, either. It was a full home studio in his basement, and you can't store that equipment in a cold garage.
He was an electrical engineer, not a garage band musician, as he's been dubbed by poor researchers.
This is the demo, rescued from a trashcan, not used on the album:
ua-cam.com/video/koaL_kd_ObY/v-deo.html
The hair and mustache was the thing in those days. I totally Love his Voice and My Brother played Boston the whole time i was growing up.
Long live Brad Delp - RIP - some of the best vocals ever in rock and roll!!
Greatest Rock singer off all time. Nobody could sing like Mr Delp. Nobody!!!!!!! Keep going POLO. So many powerful songs from Boston. "A man I'll never be" is powerful. Get ready for goosebumps!! Enjoy POLO and thank you for your time dude!!
Freddy Mercury says “hi.”
Thank you Senator!
Bruce dickenson in the 80’s was crazy too
Steve Perry.
yes. it was a summer song... the summer of my 16th year... I lived this music. thanks for keeping it going.
I loved Brad , he was one of a kind for sure
Brad Delp is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. That entire album is a masterpiece.
Brad Delp had a mind-blowing voice. Being from Boston, damn, we loved them. His voice still gives me chills. We closed our eyes and he slipped away, so long ago now. We can always hear that band's talent, still on many playlists! (And Tom Schultz was an INSANE guitar player!!! The whole band rocked.)
What a great comment, bought tears to my eyes 👍😪
There will never be another group like Boston. Ever
R.I.P. Brad ... your vocals are still More than a Feeling in 2023....
Wether in Boston or with Beetle juice your voice Rocked....
One of the greatst debut albums of all time....not a single bad song on that LP.
RIP Brad Delp. What a voice! What a band.
HE MADE THE BAND!!!! Great voice!
@@csw166 He sure did!
The way his voice turns into the guitar, brilliant
Thats is your intoduction to vocalist Bradley Delp. You are forever changed!!!
Opening riff still gives me chills all these years later. Blessed to have seen them 3 times.
This was the first song on their Debut album in '76 ! Undoubtedly one of the best debut albums ever 🙏
One of the best classic rock bands ever .
Just a fucking classic. This song is the perfect definition of rock.
Boston’s one of the most talented bands ever and Brads the goat of vocalist! Rip Brad we miss you!!
Saw these guys in London 1978....I was 17 years old and they were so good...i was mesmerised, still one of the best gigs I've seen.....and I've seen plenty........🤟
Brad Delp has an incredible voice. The opening 30 seconds includes a 2-octave range, and the high note before thee guitar solo pushes it to 3 octaves.
Lead guitarist Tom Scholz had a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He engineered a lot of the amps, racks, etc. used by the guitars for the concerts. Between the second album ("Don't Look Back") and the third ("Third Stage"), get got his PhD in ME. The man has forgotten more about wave theory than most of us will ever know.
Best Boston song, in my opinion. Love it and loved it when it first came out.
I’m so glad I grew up when I DID!!!! Brad Delp was a talented guy with too many demons. The notes he hits are AWESOME!!!!
This song came out the year I graduated high school. The drinking age was 18 and there were so many live shows to see it was ridiculous. I adore Boston. And you’re right, my favorite place to rock them is in my Mustang with the speakers cranked. Please keep doing them. Love your channel. Just don’t comment much. 🔥🤘🏼❤️
I too am Class of '76! Those were THE days, I'll never forget!
FYI the guy playing lead guitar, Tom Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in Boston the early 1970s and this album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, with Sholtz playing all the instruments and the unique sound primarily came from using devices he invented.
Afros were very popular in the 70's or long haired perms on men, as long as they were cleaned. The 70's were a great time to be alive! I love Boston, one of my favorite all time groups! I LOVE BRAD DELP!
Brad Delp has been one of my favorite vocalists of all time. Tragic life that he couldn't cope with. Boston is a true love of my youth.
Polo - you cannot fathom just how huge this album was! Debut album - every single song was a radio-hit single! EVERY SONG!
Yes the lead singer (Brad Delph) had some chops. There are usually 3 male vocalists of that era for rock and roll placed in the Mt Rushmore of chops: Delph, Freddie Mercury as you compared, and Steve "The Voice" Perry of Journey. Every has their own order of the top three - none of them are inherently wrong. But most critics will put these three at the top of the list.
If you're ready to explore Journey, the go-to gold Standard is their Live 1981 Houston "Escape" tour. Anything from that is heads and shoulders above nearly all other live bands. "Mother-Father" is widely regarded as the greatest live song among them.
Brad Delp's voice! So clean and pure. Those notes he hits only a few can do effortlessly. You hit one, Freddie. ❤ The song was written about Tom's cousin he was infatuated with. Weird! I like to think of it as relatable. I woke up this morning, the sun was gone. I hide in my music to start my day. All except for MaryAnn part. LOL Music in those days had a story to tell. Brad made sure you felt it. Music you feel in your soul ❤ They need to be in the HOF.
Love, love, love this song! Excellent highway driving song!
I had a fairly thick gotee in high school and long hair back in the 80's. I'm 55 now and still have both, my hair is about 4 or 5 inches past my shoulders, and I'll keep it going until I start going bald 🤘🏼
First time hearing this was in 82 in the basement of a buddies house. From then on, I got the cassette for myself and it was my fav - played it forever. Whenever this song comes up, I will listen to it, no matter what I am doing or where I am. That's what real music does- it locks a root into you. Brad and Tom were legends
I was in high school when Boston broke big. Loved them.
Even more amazing when you realize they wrote the songs and the entire album was recorded in their basement. I always loved this song, you have to listen to the lyrics to get the meaning, it's a lost love song. The old song he hears on the radio makes him remember his old feelings and dreaming until he sees his Maryann walking away.
In 1977/ 1978 The Stash and Fro's where the rage. Add in the bell bottoms, and tank tops. Great time to be a kid.
You're not wrong. I went to school with a guy who had a stache like this at 17!
Crazy.
BOSTON IS AMAZING!!!!!
This music was SO FRESH and unheard before...back in the mid 70's. Possibly the most perfect album ever!
One thing to keep in mind is that most of this album was recorded in Tom Scholz’s basement. Boston is one of those bands that stand the test of time and one of my all-time favorites. RIP Brad Delp.
Classic song. One of the best ever. Boston was a great classic rock band.
