Got married last month and my mom and I danced to this as well and I said the exact same thing. Got “follow your heart & nothing else” tattooed on my arm sleeve. This is the greatest song ever written in my opinion

I kind of at a loss for words ... A man of your generation showing such appreciation for music from my generation .. Actually tomorrow my wife and myself are going to visit the LS memorial near McComp , Ms This is my all time favorite LS song . I have lived my life by the values in this song . 76 years young ...
Call me a "softy" if you want (and I am NOT offended, Brother) but I am a 52 year old Marine from West Georgia, and I bawl my eyes out everytime I hear this song thinking my mother requested God in heaven requested Him to play this for me. She's been gone since 2013, but I still hear every time I hear this song plays.
Me too. I am 53. I had announced that they should play this song at my funeral - together with Highway to hell and Free Bird. This is the deepest song i ever heared.
59 year old retired Army Sr. NCO here... Im right there with ya hoss. You can be a warrior and still have a compassionate heart. And that doesn't mean you're a softy; As a Souix proverb says..."There is nothing as strong as gentleness, nothing a gentle as real strength." That is what I get from this song.
Just came across your channel. I'm an older white guy. Grew up in the 60's and 70's. Just love you.. brother. You have a great heart. So glad you are finding success in something you love. Music ties us all together because it's from God.
There will never another band that plays like Lynyrd Skynyrd did. They were amazing. Everyone of them were masters with their instruments. We lost a lot of great music when that plane crashed. Ronnie VanZant was one of a kind.
We were going to see them in Dallas Texas and then the plane crash happened. So we never got the chance too. I was totally crushed. Sweet Home Alabama has been my ringtone ever since you could put whatever you wanted on your phone.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was my fathers favorite band. I grew up hearing their music play in our house everyday. When Ronny Van Zandt and his band mates died in the plane crash, it was one of the only times I saw him cry. By the time I was 10 years old, I knew the words to every song on every album and saw them in concert twice. All of these adults in awe that me and my 7 year old sister knew all the words. My dad has long since passed but the lover for LS continues on in us. What they were able to accomplish in the short amount of time the original members were together and the quality of music they produced was extraordinary. One of the first groups to showcase TWO lead guitarists who were so in tune with each other that most people dont realize there are two separate guitars playing... like Freebird.
A song that speaks what good Mothers want for their sons; as a Mother I’ve been blessed with a son who is now 31 and is a strong, confident, intelligent, principled man who brings us pride and joy ❤. You, Polo, are a fine man who has done much to be proud of; I know from some of your commentary that you did not have an easy childhood, and yet now you are a good father to your son. Job well done, Sir. To top it off, you got off the hampster wheel and have taken an employment risk that is paying off; working on your own terms. Bravo!
As another mom who has raised a son, you speak for me too! My 36 year old son was raised by me, a divorced mom (alone), and has become a simple man, raising 3 kids on his own. My former daughter in law had drug and alcohol problems and ran afoul of the law. She was out of the picture for 8 years, and is now easing her way back into the picture. So far, so good, but I am holding my breath. I am so proud of the man and father that my son has become, in spite of it all.
Lynyrd SKYNYRD IS THE EPITOME OF SOUTHERN ROCK!! It Does This By A Combination Of Gospel, Blues, Country , And "R& R" ELEMENTS!! ALL Authentically Filtered Through Hard Earned Lessons Leafing To Truth And Wisdom!! Ronnie Van Zant Was The Spar- Plug Visionary And Southern Lyrical. " Working- Man" SAGE...😮 😎🎤🎶🎵🎶😳😉 😁
Your right.... I have heard this song thousands of times, but I sit here crying watching you experience it for the first time.... Prayers up Brother ❤️🙏
Polo, the fact of people not speaking is NOT necessarily about the shade of your skin...This is a time unlike any other in history; a time of paranoia and utter distrust and deliberately caused division. It's a DANGEROUS time and the danger creates suspicion not merely about skin shade...It's about ANYBODY EACH PERSON DOES NOT KNOW. Thank-you for sharing this story as it helps people to define what's really important and the necessity of the world's PEOPLE COMING TOGETHER TO OPPOSE THE WEALTHY ESTABLISHMENT SEEKING TO MURDER US ALL. Fantastic song...Wonderful to hear your wisdom derived from a very interesting and diverse experience in life.
I just turned 70. Regardless, this song is timeless. Boys or men, listen to your mom. She only wants the best for you. And it's hard to be that sometimes. Everybody expects so much from you. And to be honest, in this day and time it really taxes you. Life isn't always fair. When you feel you are at your wits end, stop and chill and remember back when you were young and then you can understand what your mom told you.!🤔
This song was written shortly after one of the band members mother passed away, as well as another band members grandmother. It goes deep. Thanks for the reaction. This is the most soulful rock band you will ever hear. Their discography is astounding.
My mother was an abusive woman, the lesson she gave me and lessons my grandmother gave me when I was really young stuck, but as the years went on and my grandmother passed away my mother became bitter and resentful. This song reminds me of a time when my mother actually had love behind her eyes
I hear ya. My female birth giver was the same way & the "men" in the family were either selfish & hard or selfish & weak & ALL of the women looked the other way in order to preserve their social standing. Needless to say, I'm not a "family" person.
@@MeanOldLady I had to leave the valley, too much drama back east. Now I'm living in the middle of the desert completely detached from my trees and mountains. I pray the Lord lets me forgive that side of the family for taking her side, he knows I don't have the strength to do it alone
@@ketocher please, I know this is going to sound silly, pray for those who haven't yet left, for those that still go through the motions thinking that everything will be okay if they just wait another day. I appreciate your sentiment and I will pray for you as well,
This song breaks my heart...the morning I woke up & the radio announced the plane crash, this was the song the played after the announcement. This song always brings tears....💔
Finally got the courage to watch this reaction. This is one of the songs played at my first husband's funeral years ago. It's one of my favorites but at the same time hits the heartstrings. Simply Beautiful🤟❤️
I played this song at the beginning of my son's funeral. He died at 40 of complications from an unexpected heart attack. We shared a love of all genres & listened & enjoyed each other's music. At the end of his funeral, we played "Free Bird" by them. He & I shared a love for both songs since he was young. They had a special meaning to us. I don't think his friends truly understood the importance of my music choices. He was a genuinely down-to-earth, free-spirited, loving & caring person. These songs epitomized who he was & our relationship.
My son was born in 1974, the year after the release of this song. My brother, 8 years younger than I, was, by that time, a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan. Unbeknownst to me, he coached my little one to say the band's name at a very young age. Eventually, whenever he heard a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, he yelled it out much to my brother's delight. Great memories for me now that my brother is gone. Thank you for a great reaction to a memorable song. My brother was the epitome of a simple man, and lived the life this mother wished for her son.
This was my moms song for me, and I've tried to take its meaning to heart. She unfortunately passed away back in January of 2022 at only 46, and it's difficult for me to hear this song without crying anymore. Every time, without fail. Rest in Peace, mom. Taken far too soon from this world
It was my mom's song to my brother and he passed almost 12 years ago and this song was played at his funeral and it's hard for us all to hear as well 💔
@georgeetter7558 Yes, it will, and hopefully, each generation will discover what we were lucky enough to grow up with. This was just part of normal life in 1977.
As a 53 yo man who has struggled to be honest, kind and grounded. This song hits me hard my friend. I weep every time I hear it. I would be honored to call you my friend.
Lynyrd Skynyrd released their first album in 1973. After releasing 4 albums in four years. Their charter plane crashed on October 20 1977 killing 3 members of the group including Ronnie Van Zant and critically injuring all the others. All of the awesome music that we all know and love came from those first only four albums. RIP
This is my favorite song by them with a great message. Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. They had lots of great songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama", "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps", "Saturday Night Special" etc.
I prefer this and sweet home Alabama and freeburd to sat night spec lol😂because we drove back from Wales after holiday in Ireland all the way to Bournemouth South England and left best hits on repeat funny moment.
THIS BAND IS FROM MY HOMETOWN , JACKSONVILLE, FL., WE HAVE LOVED THEM FROM THE BEGINNING. LOVE THIS SONG, IT'S A SOUTHERN MAMA SITTING HER SON DOWN AND TELLING HIM TO FIND A GOOD WOMAN AND SETTLE DOWN, NEVER FORGET HIS FAITH IN GOD UP ABOVE, AND ALWAYS TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT. SHE WANTS HIM TO BE HAPPY, SHE WANTS HIM TO JUST BE A SIMPLE KIND OF MAN, DON'T LET THE FAME TAKE YOU OVER. ALWAYS LISTEN TO MAMA, SHE KNOWS.......
A MASTERPIECE 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 DAMN...after the first few notes played...I am in HEAVEN...I could listen to this, and anything else they did over and over... Thanks Polo
I love this song, and when my second son was 20 he said Mom ! I have song for you, its Simple Man by lynard skynard , we sat and listened to the whole song before I told him i love this song, he couldn't believe id heard it before, but i dedicated it to all my boys I have 5.
You don't have to justify your points of living the life you grew up. I can tell right off, you are being sincere in everything you say, grew from a life of hell, never looked for heaven, never blamed anyone because heaven wasn't granted, and just lived your life of a twisted halo. You seem like a good, honest man; continue to be you.
We are a blessed generation musically speaking. We had our parents’ 60’s and 70’s music in our childhoods and the rich diversity of the 80’s and 90’s in our teens and young adulthoods. So much for you younger ones to explore!
Man, you give me so much faith in humanity. I love your openness to engage with others, your kindness, and most of all, your curiosity. I said it on another video, but will say it again, you keep making me love my favorite songs even more! Thank you for being you and for bringing amazing music back to light- all the best to you and your family.
Such a simple track, but so damn powerful and meaningful. Great classic southern rock with this one!!! The solo really epitomizes that 70s era of southern rock.
I used to walk the floor and sing this to my kids when they were tiny and colicky. I still catch them both humming it when they're upset. Makes this Mama proud to have raised a hardworking sinple man and young woman.
Lynyrd Skynyrd has the best lyrics and their music fit the words perfectly. Free bird. You become a free flying bird at the end. Simple Man. This is what most mothers taught you and wanted out of you. Soulful. Beautiful. Takes you to a different world.
Picture a mother trying to convey to her little boy the lessons she's learned in life, before he has to learn the hard way. All the heart ache that brings a person to know that the simple things are really the important things. Lover for you fellow man, being respectable and respectful, exercising character and finding joy in the basic things of life, no pretenses, no vain glorifying of oneself. Thank you for sharing with us. Love the channel!
I think a component of Lynyrd Skynyrd's music that gets overlooked is how complex it really is. It sounds like pretty basic blues, and it is based on blues, but there's a reason why they have a 5-to- 7-piece band: there are a LOT of moving parts being coordinated in most of their songs, and much of it is difficult to play. They were all very talented musicians who put in the work to be good at their jobs.
The music slays, but lets not forget the heart of a Mom asking her son to not let the World wrap him up in knots. Be something you can love and understand. ❤
Spelled Lynyrd Skynyrd. They renamed their band after their PE coach Leonard Skinner and a character of the same name in an early 60’s humorous summer camp song called, “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh”. Their producer, the famous Al Kooper, thought Simple Man was a boring song and didn’t want it on the album. Ronnie told him to take a hike and they recorded it and it ended up on their first album, Pronounced. This is the song I gave my only son when he was born. This song, along with Freebird, is 50 years old now.
The story has been embellished a bit; I never heard Kooper thought the song was boring, rather he felt there was stronger material for the album. Kooper said the band simply stayed late in the recording studio after he left and recorded the song. Keep in mind Kooper obviously warmed up to the song was he did all the piano work on the final recording.
Here is the song hello Muddah, hello fadduh ua-cam.com/video/XLKcfmf4GS4/v-deo.htmlsi=rfXspoNBzT894Wtr Funny song about summer camp. Nice way to take a break from heavy songs. This type of music is ignored now.
When I was asked what song I wanted to dance with my son at his wedding reception. There was no hesitation.Simple man is what we choose perfect mother son song for us
Many mothers, including myself, have had the honor of dancing with their son for the Mother and Son dance at the wedding to this song. Love your reaction.❤
This song played at my cousin’s funeral after he passed from a vehicle accident. Tire blowout in a curve and he hit a tree. He was only 23 years old and one of the best friends a person could have. I can’t listen to this song without crying. It is my favorite Skynard song but damn I can’t make it though this without tears. Thank you for this reaction man. This is appreciated on a personal level.
This will make you cry-the lyrics tug at the heart, I can only imagine how hard it must be to be a man sometimes. Sometimes the easiest things to say are the hardest to do. Love your channel:) ❤❤
I will always remember where I was on October 20, 1977 when we heard their plane went down. Lynard Skynard will always be one of my all time favorite bands!
In 1977 I was on the Flag Ship USS Albany CG 10 Gieta Italy. The day they crashed, he came over the PA system on the ship and announce that their plane had and that Ronnie Van zant had died with others. The whole ship went silent. I still cry to this day, I'm 65.
I also have two sons and I would sing this to them when they were young. Then they realized I really couldn't sing, so then I would just play Lynyrd Skynyrd and they loved it. My oldest is 48 and my youngest will be 37 next month. Where have the years gone?
I live here in Southeastern Kentucky and we speak to people, we wave at people whether we know you or not and it doesn’t matter who you are, who you’re not or what you look like. Good people are good people know matter what color. That’s just the way it is here. Hope nothing but the best for you and your family, God bless you always.
I'm so glad you made a positive connection in your new area, brother! I'm also the type to greet people with a smile and a nod or a kind word, and I think that we'll all heal together a lot better if we all do a bit more of that! Much love, bud!
Discovered your channel a few days ago, really dig the way you break things down and absorb them. This was the first song my mother sang to me when I was a child. She’s a deeply troubled woman but this song and the lessons therein have stuck with me my entire life. I’ve been listening to this song nonstop for the last few days because it helps me in difficult times, and I’m glad to see you discover it.
Since I was a kid this song was special to me and my momma. When it came time to dance at my wedding, this song started to play and my momma cried the whole time. I’m her only son, and the only thing she wishes for in life is for me to be satisfied. I love her to death
The main thing I love about these reaction videos is they take me back to how I felt the first time I heard these songs. They take me back in time and remind me how amazing it was the when I heard them the first time. It makes me appreciate them even more than when I first heard them. Thank you for taking me back in time.
The message is so powerful. It’s a lifetime message from a mother to a son. The music is 🔥the drums, the guitar riffs, it’s chilling. I love you Polo for being so open minded and listening to different genres. Music truly brings people together and can bridge gaps. Your channel by far is my absolute favorite!
Ronnie and the band were never racists, The rebal flag was the idea of the record company. Ronnie had black neighbors, Ronnie ( the lead singer ) used to fish alot and gave extra fish to his neighbors to cook up for dinner.
Simple Man was one of my favorite songs when I was in my mid teens (when it was current). It still resonates with me 50 years later. Thanks for licking this one.
My son asked me if I would be ok with “simple Man” for our mother/son dance!! I was ecstatic - I could not have picked a more appropriate son for his wedding … this song really captures my son and I too a “T”! Love this song! Much love and respect from Canada! ❤

Thank you, appreciate the travel suggestion. Definitely a great idea in my near future.
This 53 year old fellow Georgia Jarhead is with you, brother. -SemperFi and GO DAWGS!
I’m a 60 year old Marine and this song sings to my soul more than any other.
Me too. I am 53. I had announced that they should play this song at my funeral - together with Highway to hell and Free Bird. This is the deepest song i ever heared.
That solo does go on for ten minutes live
Same here
Yes, we truly did
I’ve been loving Lynyrd Skynyrd since I was growing up in the 1980’s in Southeastern Kentucky.
Uhhhh Blackfoot?
Bless your Daddy’s heart! Bless you that your Daddy taught you.
Tears to my eyes? Absolutely. Lost my son 3 years ago. He was a simple man. But had a heart condition
My sincere condolences....
@@rachelm4066 Thank you. He was 22 and on the right track.
Sorry for your loss
So sorry for your loss.
💚✌️
So sorry for your loss. May he be resting in peace...free from pain 🙏
Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the best classic rock bands to ever come out of Jacksonville Florida. Their songs hit you right in the feels.
There was some great music coming from that state. 38 Special,Molly Hatchet and The Out Laws before them.
out of the USA. Or you could claim - the best american rock band. Period. The others and better come from australia (or scotland) and Great Britain.
This and the Ballad of Curtis Loew are the best Skynard tunes in my opinion. ❤
Always Freebird for me! Been since the 70s! 😍
Ohhhhhh...❤ The Ballad of Curtis Lowe!
Curtis loew was a hip hip dude!!
Their cover of Call Me the Breeze was what pulled me in - the original was already a favorite and their version put it into overdrive
I agree with you💯
Polo, you’re a laid back, intelligent person and your passion in music comes out every time brother… strength to you and your son 🙏
My thoughts exactly. It took on a new meaning to me after hearing your story. Sending love and light to you. ❤❤❤
I'm 65 yrs old and love that your Generation appreciates a song that I first heard when I was twelve years old and have loved ever since
Polo, the fact of people not speaking is NOT necessarily about the shade of your skin...This is a time unlike any other in history; a time of paranoia and utter distrust and deliberately caused division.
Fantastic song...Wonderful to hear your wisdom derived from a very interesting and diverse experience in life.
when most people think of LS they think of Sweet home Alabama or Free Bird. But these guys were serious musicians !
These lyrics are words to live by.
I just turned 70. Regardless, this song is timeless. Boys or men, listen to your mom. She only wants the best for you. And it's hard to be that sometimes. Everybody expects so much from you. And to be honest, in this day and time it really taxes you. Life isn't always fair. When you feel you are at your wits end, stop and chill and remember back when you were young and then you can understand what your mom told you.!🤔
Sang this my son at a young age, he passed 2022 of cancer at 42. It was his song from me.
🙏🙏🙏
Such a shame. My condolences. It should not have happened.
This song was written shortly after one of the band members mother passed away, as well as another band members grandmother. It goes deep. Thanks for the reaction. This is the most soulful rock band you will ever hear. Their discography is astounding.
It's Southern Rock!

what did i even do with my life.
i think he was 21 no?
My mother was an abusive woman, the lesson she gave me and lessons my grandmother gave me when I was really young stuck, but as the years went on and my grandmother passed away my mother became bitter and resentful. This song reminds me of a time when my mother actually had love behind her eyes
I hear ya. My female birth giver was the same way & the "men" in the family were either selfish & hard or selfish & weak & ALL of the women looked the other way in order to preserve their social standing. Needless to say, I'm not a "family" person.

This song breaks my heart...the morning I woke up & the radio announced the plane crash, this was the song the played after the announcement. This song always brings tears....💔
So true!
I sat each of my boys down and made them listen to this song- the lyrics- profound and what every mom wants for her son.
The thing about Skynyrd is that every member had a integral part in every song. Everybody had to shine in every song. No free rides there.
Finally got the courage to watch this reaction. This is one of the songs played at my first husband's funeral years ago. It's one of my favorites but at the same time hits the heartstrings. Simply Beautiful🤟❤️
Condolences
I played this song at the beginning of my son's funeral. He died at 40 of complications from an unexpected heart attack. We shared a love of all genres & listened & enjoyed each other's music. At the end of his funeral, we played "Free Bird" by them. He & I shared a love for both songs since he was young. They had a special meaning to us. I don't think his friends truly understood the importance of my music choices. He was a genuinely down-to-earth, free-spirited, loving & caring person. These songs epitomized who he was & our relationship.
Another great Skynyrd song is Tuesday's Gone. Love, love this band ! ❤
The perfect intersection of rock, art and a life lesson. Really love Ronnie's singing on this track too. You KNOW he means it.
This was my moms song for me, and I've tried to take its meaning to heart. She unfortunately passed away back in January of 2022 at only 46, and it's difficult for me to hear this song without crying anymore. Every time, without fail. Rest in Peace, mom. Taken far too soon from this world
I'm sorry for your loss 🙏🙏!!
It was my mom's song to my brother and he passed almost 12 years ago and this song was played at his funeral and it's hard for us all to hear as well 💔
This is on my 18 year old son’s playlist! I was shocked as I love this band but had never mentioned it to him. Great music lasts the test of time!
you'll probably find nirvana too lol
Classic music will always live forever it goes beyond generations when you have a song like this
@georgeetter7558 Yes, it will, and hopefully, each generation will discover what we were lucky enough to grow up with. This was just part of normal life in 1977.
@@heartfanjim01 I know some will but the crap and junk young people listen to nowadays is just sickening
As a 53 yo man who has struggled to be honest, kind and grounded. This song hits me hard my friend. I weep every time I hear it. I would be honored to call you my friend.
A former player of mine died in a motorcycle crash at 19. They played this at his funeral. Song definitely takes on a strong meaning for me.
No words - what a powerful and profound comment.
My sons know I want this played to them from me at my funeral. It's final message to them.
RIP
3 Guitars, when Alan, Gary, and Ed harmonize, it doesn't get any better.
& Steve Gaines
This is the "lullaby" I sang to my baby boy... he's 31 now and amazing ❤
Tuesday's Gone ♥

Danced the mother /son dance to this song at my sons wedding in 2015.. i grew up listening to it. Will always hold a special place
Fellow Duvalian here!!
I have fond memories of living in Jacksonville, back in the '70's! My first son was born there.
As a Vietnam Vet USMC my Mother spoke to me some of those type of lyrics the song has. a simple song but strong message to a young man.
Remembering my brother and my Mom dancing to this at his wedding ❤ . Absolute classic.
My mother told me this is what she wanted for me! This is my personal National Anthem!!!!
I’m a 20 year old male and my mom has always told me this is her favorite song
I choose those song for the mother son dance when my son got married. Love this song.
Ronnie walked him out to his RR and told him go to NY and we will call you when we are done recording it. And off he drove.
Yep. They literally escorted him outside and put him in the car. Sent him on his way saying "we'll call you"
The story has been embellished a bit; I never heard Kooper thought the song was boring, rather he felt there was stronger material for the album. Kooper said the band simply stayed late in the recording studio after he left and recorded the song. Keep in mind Kooper obviously warmed up to the song was he did all the piano work on the final recording.
Skinnnnnnneeeeeeerrrrrr!
Here is the song hello Muddah, hello fadduh

Funny song about summer camp. Nice way to take a break from heavy songs. This type of music is ignored now.
When I was asked what song I wanted to dance with my son at his wedding reception. There was no hesitation.Simple man is what we choose perfect mother son song for us

I will always remember where I was on October 20, 1977 when we heard their plane went down. Lynard Skynard will always be one of my all time favorite bands!
You have to check out “Tuesday’s Gone” by Skynyrd. It’s underrated and actually one of my favorite all time songs.
I sent this to my son when he was going through a rough patch. It showed him, I'll always have his best interest at heart. He's my only son.
The ballad of Curtis Loew is a must!!! Story telling, delta blues at its finest. Enjoy!
Thank you young man. This music revives an old soul.
As a mom, it makes me cry. Me and my 9 yr old son are dancing to it at my wedding next September. He loves this song too. That's a plus 😊
In 1977 I was on the Flag Ship USS Albany CG 10 Gieta Italy. The day they crashed, he came over the PA system on the ship and announce that their plane had and that Ronnie Van zant had died with others. The whole ship went silent. I still cry to this day, I'm 65.

A message we all need to get back to these days.
The main thing I love about these reaction videos is they take me back to how I felt the first time I heard these songs. They take me back in time and remind me how amazing it was the when I heard them the first time. It makes me appreciate them even more than when I first heard them. Thank you for taking me back in time.
I totally agree with you!!
Makes me remember memories that I had forgotten.
Music is the Glue for your soul! Doesn't matter the genre, just that it pleases your heart and soul and gives you purpose.
Ronnie and the band were never racists, The rebal flag was the idea of the record company. Ronnie had black neighbors, Ronnie ( the lead singer ) used to fish alot and gave extra fish to his neighbors to cook up for dinner.
