Brad Delp is the most underrated rock singer of all time. He can belt it out with control that NO ONE can match. Listen to the whole Boston debut album - for many years it was the biggest selling debut album of ALL TIME. 17 million+ copies. RIP Brad - he died by suicide in 2007. Tragic!

I saw Brad with Beatlejuice in NYC with my fiancé . He was playing Paul, and he knocked it out of the park!. I prefer his spectacular voice to Mercury's AND Steve Perry's. Brad's death was tragic for humanity; that great performer and his iconic voice silenced forever.

As this guy said on this podcast - Brad was in the same category as Freddy Mercury, Steve Perry etc. He can do anything he wants vocally in his prime - there were no limits to Brad Delp’s range, this debut album was one of the greatest accomplishments of quality rock music ever recorded and - Brad Delp was unequivocally one of the most gifted Rock Singers in the history of the genre !

Ok, so as a producer, you need to know this whole album. Tom Scholz is the guitarist, but he produced this entire album out of his basement. Many of the effects for the guitars, bass, and vocals he created and electrically engineered himself.
Then that's Brad Delp. Brad's voice is transcendent. It was a sad day when we lost him. More Boston.

If you ask the industry, for some reason people forget he even existed. Not only was he a brilliant vocalist, he was a beautiful human. I still miss him.

They're going to be more independent because the methods of recording, without being manufactured by a label, is much more expensive. Check out some of the more well known newer artist like Gary Clark Jr, Alan Stone (his story is incredible btw), Billy Strings, Chris Stapleton, Grace Potter, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats... the list could go on and on...

Tom Scholz was a musical and engineering genius to wrote, played the instruments, and produced the album almost entirely on his own. But his true genius was getting Brad Delp as his vocalist. Delp had a voice range and variety that was only rivaled by the likes of Freddy Mercury. The results were epic. Foreplay/Longtime is a must-listen pair of songs. The Foreplay part is all about the instruments, But the Longtime section is another tour de force by Brad Delp. There is nothing bad in Boston's very unique catalog of hits.

Dude, Boston is one of the all time greatest Rock N Roll bands... it's an absolute fact! I know this because I'm 60 years old and a former radio DJ who was a huge fan of this band. Not to mention, I'm from New Hampshire, which is where Brad Delp, the lead singer, lived for years. I remember distinctly, the first time I heard Boston, because it was in the mid 1970's and I was in Junior High at the time. One of my best friends older brothers turned us on to the music, and I've never been the same since. In fact, this band is one of the reasons I became a Disc Jockey... true story.

This album takes me back to my childhood when my brother and I would go on road trips with my dad in his '68 Mustang fastback. The Boston debut album would ALWAYS be in rotation in it's ENTIRETY on those trips. These songs just completely encapsulate (for me) a time and place where it was just us, the road, the growl of that V8, and this band cranked to 11. Just an overwhelming feeling of freedom and contentment as the three of us blasted down the highway. I will NEVER not smile and sing along to these songs when they come on.

Pegasus, the drummer with the amazing afro is Sib Hashian, who sadly passed away in 2017. A bit of trivia for you is that his daughter, Lauren Hashian, is married to "The Rock" himself, Dwayne Johnson. Unfortunately this version of the song is promotional single edit, which cuts out one of the verses. I will add my vote to the many many other commenters who have said you should listen to the entire album and react to some of the full-length album versions of the songs on there. This is an incredible debut album, and this is one of the most "perfect" rock songs of all time (in my opinion).

Brad Delp was the voice of Boston. He passed away in 2007. Tom Scholz essentially created the band while finishing his masters at MIT. He invented the guitar pedals that let him play effects and make the "Boston sound". Most of the first album was recorded in his basement on equipment he invented. I knew he was an inventor, but Wiki filled in the gaps for me about the extent of his creations. "Don't Look Back" is my personal favorite Boston song, but I grew up with them, and love tons of their music. I don't think it's too much to compare Delp and Mercury. They were amazing artists, and we're all better off for their music.

The best part of the story of Boston is that this debut album full of smash hits was written by by Tom Scholz. He also played most of the instruments. When he couldn't find the effects he was hearing in his head he designed and produced them himself. He graduated from MIT, was working a Polaroid while producing this album in his basement. Record label guy comes to visit and says "Lets get you out to L.A. get some great musicians and producer" and Tom says no. The rep gets up to leave turns in the doorway and says Fine do it your way. Before Tom has time to say anything, the rep says "And we'll split the publishing with you."

I'm 65. I have never heard a band better then Boston. There are some greats that I am absolutely crazy about, especially ones with a very unique sound but none can touch the sound Boston brought to the music industry. They have many talents under their belts, Tom Scholz for one graduated from MIT with a bachelors and a masters. When their songs came on the radio, "Who is this band" said NO ONE EVER!!

This is the one song that when it comes on and I'm in my car I turn it up as loud as it will go and sing my heart out and I forget everything else that's going on.
You know everyone says what a great band queen is and truly great voice. Great songs. Great Christmas.
But Boston... The man truly had a beautiful voice. The guys on the guitars was extremely talented. They work them like butter and the drummer had true true talent!
To me, this is one of the best bands of all time and theyre are never given as much credit as queen...
Later on they had a secondary group called RTZ... And those were some pretty good songs too

From Wiki: The lead guitarist, Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970s. A fan of rock music throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT. The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, primarily using devices _he invented_. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents related to his work at SR&D over the years.
He was described by AllMusic as an "un-rock n' roll" figure who did not enjoy the limelight of being a performer, preferring to concentrate on music, production, and inventing new electronic equipment. In more recent years, he has dedicated much of his money and time to charitable work. Dude is a pure genius. Flowers!

    Forever playlist?
This entire album should be on it, period.
You record music listen to this album from the perspective of technology.
    1. No personal computers or software
    2. Recorded in a basement on a 12 track analog reel to reel tape machine
    3. Many of the effects were built by guitarist Tom Scholz who engineered and produced this amazing album
    4. You bring in Brad Delp on vocals which he does all the vocals on the album sonically in my opinion best album ever made still sounds fresh today and it’ll sound fresh 100 years from now every song is a work of art

Without hesitation I can tell you I saw Boston at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill (84), they sounded as pure as their vinyl album. Best vocals live I’ve ever heard. Period. Thanks again and keep exploring my friend👊🏼

Boston was basically Tom Scholtz, who played ALL the instruments on this album, and singer Brad Delp. You are NOT overexaggerating. He was one of the best vocalists of the time. But definitely a tortured soul. Ended up killing himself. I second Foreplay/Long Time.

Boston's music was on the radio ALL the time and I loved all of their songs. I wish I had seen them in concert but do not remember them coming where I live. I so agree with you about the lead singer- even way back when, I knew he was one of best singers of all time. Hope he felt everyone's admiration back then. Keep this going BP-- I am with YOU. 🤗🎶🎙🔊🎸🎹

You're not tripping... this man's uberclean vocals that hit ALL the highs, every time... pretty brilliant. They aren't 1 of my favorites bc I gravitated toward much heavier/intense music, but I will respect this man's voice for all of time, just like how I'm a Lakers fan who will forever respect Larry Bird's game...
