The guy is hardcore. He’s pulling off a red blazer, red shoes with white tennis wrist bands and head band…while killing that guitar
Like someone said in another video ... Knofler was in Game7 of the Championship finals there. Fokkin awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Makes you want to get back up in life."...true for u.
Reminds you of how positive the possibilities are.
Thank you.
Guitar and drum. And the rest were all in the zone as well. It is a mood lifter.
Musical talent on a whole new level.
Mark Knopfler's finger picking with Terry Williams on drums....priceless!
Absolutely ❤ It is a Master peace
The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising.
It's nice that you enjoyed it so much.
What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having.
Making a living like that wouldn't suck.
Shout out to the production crew. The filmography of this LIVE concert is incredible.🤩
Hello again. There are obviously regulars to these reactions.
Definitely experiencing some Deja Vu here ...
It was July 1983, Hammersmith Odeon
I was there! Just turned 18 and 40 years later its still the best band performance I've seen.
You don't appreciate it so much at the time, I thought it was normal!
We were on the balcony, a few rows back from the crowd you saw on the balcony, I recognised the girl with dark hair, the whole place was jumping, seemed like the balcony would fall down!
Every one of them was brilliant, but for me, Terry Williams on the drums smashed it!
Now you have to watch Telegraph Road from the same gig, it was the encore and its compulsary
You are right about if you are feeling down or had a bad day play this song loud and you can't help but feel good and happy after!
Now that's what I call a performance
Killed it!!
Dire Straits GREAT BAND !!!
Good reaction !!!
💥🎵🎸🤘🔥😁🇪🇦😎
It never fails to amaze me that a band can be as big as Dire Straits (over 130 million albums sold many world wide tours, the last tour alone sold 7.1 million tickets) and lots have never heard of them.
What an incredible piece of timeless music. I never understood how a solo guitar can carry the rhythm so much. It is because Mark plays it so well, staccatos, it just gets faster and faster, one of the best guitar solos in music, in my opinion. My favourite childhood band....
Thank you for not stopping the song. There is nothng more irritatingto me when others do it. I kave no problem if you talk over it. Great vid. I give it a 👍👍 up!
The story on which this song is based is actually true! Mark Knopfler is one of the world's greatest guitarist/songwriter/storytellers and he's one of the rare musicians these days who prefers to let the music take precedence over his vocals. I think he and his amazing band are quite unique as far as that goes and beyond.
One of the best versions of this song. Recorded in London in 1984
Hammersmith Odeon July 1983
@@eturfrey correct sir I was there.
@@eturfrey we should have Dire Straights day on the 40th anniversary
Great reaction!! The guitar was great as always by Mark Knopfler, but Terry Williams killed the drums as well. If you liked this, I am sure you will like Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4 live at Tanglewood, if you haven't seen it already.
Absolutely, Terry Williams wasn't just keepin' the beat, he was driving the band... awesome performance. if you're into drummers.
Terry Williams's father was in the audience watching him play for the 1st time....he played his heart out !!!!!
Someone asked Prince how it felt to be the best guitarist. He answered by saying
Go ask Mark Knophler. Enoughsaid.
Thanks for allowing the song to be played without interruption as many of the other critics seem to enjoy listening to themselves yap! 13:20 13:20
I hardly ever see Mark Knopfler on lists of greatest guitar players, etc. I would say he is quite underrated because he is one of the best guitar players on the planet
Many of these best of lists are utter garbage anyway, for instance I read one earlier about the top 20 best male singers of all time and they put paul McCartney in the top 10, but no mention of the likes of Steve perry.
True that, I watched and interview with him and he stated that he really didn't care about being famous. All fame might get you is a better seat at a restaurant:) Extremely humble yet in mind the best there ever was!
Around this time in the 80's they were the biggest-selling band in the world.
THAT TONE..son is unmatched!
Love your channel and reaction. I think you'll really like the song Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS- Live On The Night 1993. It's so much better watching them live so you can see their talent. Cheers All the best from Australia. 😊🎸🎸
I’ll have to check that one out Mark. Thank you so much and I hope you have a great day!
Thanks for sharing 🎸👍😀
1978 album ❤ so much greater live❤
Scottish legend, vocalist Mark Knopfler, who lived and now also lives in Newcastle, told the story of this song, and he said he was in a bar there and there was a band that nobody took notice of...all playing pool and drinking beer...he noticed...no one applauded and he thought how terrible for the band...and at the end the singer said...well we are The Sultans of Swing...ironically he became one of the rock classics...Rock and Roll stories...
The Pub was in Deptford South London.
This performance and "Comfortably Numb - Live at Pulse" sit side-by-side upon the Throne adorning the Pantheon to the Rock Gods for BEST Live Performance. Every time I start to choose between the two I just get stuck in a loop of listening to both a being completely at PEACE that they are both #1...
So many phenomenal live performances from Dire Straits and lead guitarist, singer, songwriter extraordinaire Mark Knopfler. I recommend these 3 in particular:
Brothers in Arms from the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium, which Dire Straits headlined. An incredibly emotional performance of this hauntingly profound song.
I Think I Love You Too Much from Knebworth '90 where Dire Straits were joined by another guitar legend, one Eric Clapton. Watching Mark and Eric trading solos on this great blues number is a joy to behold.
Money For Nothing from the Music For Montserrat charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall where Mark was joined once more by Eric as well as by Sting and Phil Collins for the most fun and joyous rendition of this riff-based classic.
and for something a little more offbeat, but truly exceptional guitar playing check out Mark and Chet Atkins at the Secret Policeman's Ball. Acoustic duets of I'll See You in my Dreams, and Imagine. ua-cam.com/video/sEa_9iMT56c/v-deo.html
Next visit, try "Telegraph Road" from the same tour - it's epic: ua-cam.com/video/Q1Wp2ASqyxI/v-deo.html
Mark Knopfler lead guitar
Hal Lindes Rhythm guitar
John Illsey Bass Guitar
Terry Williams Drums
Alan Clark Keys
And for these performances Tommy Mandel guest keys
22 & 23 July Hammersmith Odeon London
This video sends you on a trip.
If you want uplifting try
Dire Straits "walk of life" and "twisting by the pool"
Both feel good bangers!!!
Mark Knopfler is naturally left-handed but plays right-handed and still sounds like that. Unbelievable
Man, we need more bands like there used to be. Everyone has to be a solo act now and so many of them just churn out dross and dreck. Bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd will live forever and so much of the insipid, auto tuned bs that some of today's "artist" put out won't be remembered past their lifetimes, if that.
Amen!
My favourite Dire Straits is "Money for Nothing". It was a big hit in 1985! Best to check out the official video to appreciate this banger.
I want my MTV
Perfect "reaction"!!! No interruptions. Comments reserved for after. Thanks!!!!
Man these guys absolute masters of their craft❤love it great reaction though
You should check out Tunnel of Love from Wembley Stadium where you can see another amazing guitar performance by Mark Knopfler.
That's not really a reaction young fellow and no it basically wasn't a guitar solo but the amalgamation of 5 musicians playing unbelievable music.
Gotta respect the finger picking.
OG sit
Of course, this guitar solo is unbelievable but Mark Knoplfer is also a great song writer. Try "Romeo & Juliet live, it's genius, here : ua-cam.com/video/vyI9flHHT2Q/v-deo.html
When Gods walked….
Haha ...look how non-chalant Knopfler is.😄
It's like a mixture of Rory Gallagher and Rush
Try Phil Collins in the air tonight watch to the end
Drummer must have been taking stimulants considerably faster than studio version .
Different drummer too.
Sorry. But I just cannot believe one never heard about Dire Straits. And “Sultans of Swing”…
FIRST OF ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like the studio version better!
You might get a kick out of "Money for Nothing."😁
What is with all the Queen hashtags??
Cabbage
Mark knopler doesn't use a pluck he uses his thumb???
I guess white boys can sing! No?
dont be embarrassed dude, its ok to be white, we dont bite
but we have all the musical talent!!!
this dude is showing his whiteness, like lol
"Whiteness" WTF
UM...Drums, Bass Guitar, keyboards, bongos, all synergy
