Really strange to hear about his passing two days ago. 46 years old.... shiiit! He became almost instaneously one of the new "benchmark" in Metal drumming when Slipknot hit commercial success. There was Dave Lombardo in the 80's, Vinnie Paul in the 90's, and then Joey Jordison in the 2000's, that's how important he was for Metal drumming (imo). A powerful and brutal groove machine, with a very distinct style, his fills and drum sound are unmistakable. Unlike what most of the comments say, please don't react to the "Disasterpieces" solo (well it is great but very short and also does not really show how he was special sounding drummer). Honeslty, People = Shit live is much better and showcase more his abilities and drumming style.
I always love when someone gets familiar with the crazy and absolute genius of Joey. I met him in 2010 and he was the one of the most genuine person you could meet. If you really enjoyed him, you would enjoy their new drummer Jay Weinberg.
I was ,most of the time,a guitar guy but when I immersed myself on listening to Slipknot ,I converted into a drummer guy. He's my very first influence on why I decided to pick up drumsticks. Damn.... I still can't believe he's gone already
His “high arc on the left hand” isn’t that at all… he is playing the snare strokes with the right and play the left on the hats… in that part of the vid where you made the comment about the arc..
Joey jordison was a legend! The best show they made was live at london 2002 , and also dynamo 2000 but the quality is better at london. Chek out his drum solo ! Also i love creative song like purity, scissor, iowa and skin ticket, such a creative drummer.
I used to come home from school and play along to slipknot self titled most days on my put together kit with two kicks and broken cymbals Joey bridged three decades of influences and put groove in to metal God rest his soul, he gave us more than we realise
I saw Slipknot live around 15-20 years ago, and Joey had his set on a large platform, which I thought was just to give him more visibility. In the middle of the set, he started a really nuts drum solo, and while he was playing, the platform started raising in the air with the use of like a hydraulic scissor lift, then the platform turned sideways to face the audience (He and his chair were strapped to it), revealing a pentagram on the floor of the platform, and then the platform started spinning, all while he was still playing a solo. Absolutely nuts, still never seen anything like it, 15-20 years later.
I loved this man. Meeting him was amazing. Listen to him play the guitar... It is great too Joey could do anything musical... Period. Who is Travis Barker? There is no comparison. Joey is the best.
How did you become a drum teacher without hearing one of the best drummers in the world? Even if it's metal. He was a god. His drumming transcends music. I was honoured to see him play live. I'm glad your experiencing his amazing talent and skills on a drum kit. R.I.P
Ironically we all play Joey's style because he was super articulate and academically technical and unfathomanably accurate factoring things such as stamina, speed, timing and intricacy, the average listener will gloss right over the intelligence behind blending the intensity associated to the style with the basic scholarly knowledge and ever present acknowledgement of the technical skill as well as having a neo~classically philosophical mindset paired with an undeniable ability cloaked in a psudo~intellectual persona... R.I.P. 1️⃣JJ🥁🤘

It is so heartbreaking that he won't be around to share his gift, but it is so cool that you are getting to see why so many people are so passionate about his drumming and showmanship! I am so sad about his death. I used to watch all these videos as a kid on the family desktop. So many memories and nostalgia. Joey was a legend and he’s up there with all the drumming legends now.
Joey was a sick drummer but what set him apart was his writing. What he wrote was just so unique, memorable and fun to listen to. Listening to pieces of songs can never do justice to what he created because you don't get the dynamics. If you're truly interested in Joey I recommend listening to the Iowa album from start to finish. That album is still in my eyes the most viscious, aggressive release and still to this day one of my favourite albums surpassed only by Such is life by Dead Kelly, an Australian band I also can't recommend high enough

I was never a fan of Slipknot (not a fan of their style of metal), however I am a fan of a lot of the other bands he was in & played live for (Satyricon etc), and him as a drummer (he was def the standout in the band). The metal community has def lost a great. Thanks for doing this.
I was 8 years old when my dad played Slipknot for me before a hockey game of mine. I fell in love immediately. Hearing what Joey was capable of made me a drummer right then and there. He became my hero and man when he passed I cried for someone I'd never met in my life. He was one of the greatest to ever pick up sticks. He is sorely missed.
For me Slipknot has always had some of the best drums in metal. And Joey was a good part of that for a long time. He's always been my favorite drummer since I was about 8 or 9 years old. I'll genuinely miss living in the same planet as someone as legendary as he was.
There's an awesome energy and an emotional intensity to Slipknot, behind the heavy drums and guitars, that's never been replicated, though many have tried. They will be the most enduring of this generation of metal, and perhaps 1990s to 2020s music in general, because there are many layers to their music.
Joey was one of my idols when i was a kid, and when i started drumming, I learned a lot of SlipKnoT songs. My Double Kick skills and my drum fills improved so much because of learning Joey’s songs.
Had the opportunity to see Joey play live once many many years ago and the energy he brought to the show.. just unmatched, taken way too early but he's at peace now ❤️
My daughter got me to listen to Slipknot and the 1st song she put on was Sulfur. I wasn't sure at first, but then the drums just erupted out of nowhere and hooked me. Joey's drum playing is unreal, he plays them SO FREAKING HARD you feel it. My heart thumps and I literally feel like my adrenaline is pumping. Love, love, love this mans skill. That mans talent on the drums is fucking incredible.
I think while there are plenty of technically superior drummers to Joey he was an inspiration like no one else. I think he bridged the gap for a lot of us growing up in the 2000s from traditional heavy metal or even nu-metal to just something more heavy. I mean showing Joe to a kid who's only really heard some traditional heavy metal is like seeing a god. I've come to realize that there's much more to metal than technical ability and Joe just had an instantly recognizable style to his playing. He's the one who get me into drumming to begin with, and that's why I'll always miss him. I firmly believe that his drumming really made Slipknot stand out. He has such an interesting blend of influences that's also fairly easy to digest. R.I.P.

Having said all this I am sorry to see him go, he had a long battle with a neurological disease that screwed his leg up so he couldn't drum, then he only makes it to 46. He deserved better and I hope his family find peace in that he felt nothing in his passing.
@@michaelberresford4291 thanks for the input. If you dislike the person, why bother commenting?
@@truttzi The video finished while I was on the toilet and I wasn't done and taking my focus off it helps me relax. Plus people voice their opinions all the time.
He suffered from a rare inflammatory disease Transverse Myelitis which left him able to play the drums since 2016, its similar to MS. Apparently passed away peacefully in his sleep. RIP! LOVE FROM THE MAGGOTS!! 🤟🤟
Did he get the Deth jab?
@@chuckbud1313 bro shut up. He had been suffering with TM since 2013. It’s a horrible disease and most likely contributed to his untimely passing
@@chuckbud1313 No but Corey did and now he's got COVID. Almost like the vaccine doesn't work...
@Magpie r/woosh I know it doesn't stop you getting COVID. I was making a joke which completely went over your head. 🙄🤦🏻
Shut up redditors
Every year I say "This has been a particularly bad year for losing musician" and I'm starting to realize that's not the case and we really are losing these people all the time. It's made me come to terms with my own mortality in a way. The one that hurt me the most was EVH because he got me into guitars a year prior and I never got to see him play live.
Joey was certainly a legend… greatest drummer ever man RIP
Almost broke my neck as soon as sic started. God damn. Rest in piece to a legend and a hero of the the genre. I will always appreciate the memories. You’ve helped me in my youth. My drumming definitely was inspired by you more than anyone else. I love you my guy.
Joeys death hit me more than the rest so far. Damn. Doesn't seem real
Most influential drummer past 20 years
100% agreed
What you have to acknowledge is the iconic drum fills, that has it a unique personality, that so many drummers and fans will recognize everywhere.
Absolutely Omar!

~hears accent~ "here in Auckland, New Zealand".
*Swears loudly and falls out of bed*
Gidday fellow Kiwi.
How nice of the algorithm.
Hey Angela! LOL
I live in Auckland also. Joey's legacy knows no boundaries
He was a true Idol and A LEGEND!!! I'm glad I saw Slipknot live when he was still playing in the band!
joey is one of the greats, ive seen him 30 times over the years and he never disapoints, amazing show amazing sound and the feeling in my chest that was given when his bands took the stage wether it was with murderdolls or slipknot he always came through.. he was a great guy all around, rest in metal #1
Joeys death really hit me hard he’s been my drumming inspiration sense I started listening to slipknot and really the only musicians death Rest In Paradise Joey, one of my favorites and one of the best
I'll dig more into him. Thanks for commenting Scoss
I always love when someone gets familiar with the crazy and absolute genius of Joey. I met him in 2010 and he was the one of the most genuine person you could meet. If you really enjoyed him, you would enjoy their new drummer Jay Weinberg.
Yo Tyler! I've done a heap of vids on Joey now. And also one on Jay Weinberg!
Andrew thanks for the video, any loss of someone so talented is a loss for everyone regardless of music preferences
Joey jordison was a legend! The best show they made was live at london 2002 , and also dynamo 2000 but the quality is better at london. Chek out his drum solo ! Also i love creative song like purity, scissor, iowa and skin ticket, such a creative drummer.
My favorite show ever watch it regularly
@@ericbarkewitz7586 link pls
I used to come home from school and play along to slipknot self titled most days on my put together kit with two kicks and broken cymbals
Joey bridged three decades of influences and put groove in to metal
God rest his soul, he gave us more than we realise
Well said.
CLEAN, ACCURATE, PASSIONATE....SO TALENTED I HAVE NO WORDS. BEAUTIFUL ARTIST. REST IN PEACE JOEY PS... THE HAIR 😜
RIP
Now JOEY JORDISON can meet up with THE REV in Paradise, Rest in peace Joey Jordison
Joey will be greatly missed. An inspiration to many drummers and many people in general.
Listened and played (guitar) Eyeless hundreds of times but the first 45 seconds still give me goose bumps…
Joey was an absolute God! He made it look so easy. RIP Joey 🌹
Definitely inspired by Motley Crue's drummer Tommy Lee and his solos.
Unique drummer! He was already missed when he left Slipknot. RIP Joey!
RIP JOEY....THE MIGHTY MOUSE OF EXTREME DRUMMING....A TRUE G.O.A.T. PEACE FROM THE NORTHEAST..
I loved this man. Meeting him was amazing. Listen to him play the guitar... It is great too
Joey could do anything musical... Period. Who is Travis Barker? There is no comparison. Joey is the best.
@mattrardin backagain I know. I was just sayin... I hate hearing how talented Barker is. He's a dime a dozen. Joey was not.
I’m so glad you watched other videos because he is SOO amazing and this video did no justice!
If I was a drum teacher and a kid came to me saying that Joey Jordison inspired them to play the drums I would literally cry tears of joy
Excellent :)
Whatever motivates you!
R.I.P. 1️⃣JJ🥁🤘
I've seen people getting so mad about folks reacting to Joey, but this video is exactly what Joey would want. It is so heartbreaking that he won't be around to share his gift, but it is so cool that you are getting to see why so many people are so passionate about his drumming and showmanship! Also know that this man had a rare form of MS and after physical therapy and all he went back to it!
First drummer to get blast beats into the mainstream. RIP to a legend
EXCELLENT Justin!
I just love the dynamics and how he co-wrote songs (guitarist too) 1 of the original founders of Slipknot .. you hear all the groove and emotions with his drums..it just works it’s got mongrel
rip Joey. I love him and his drumming. Thx that you did this and are openminded to this music and style. I also have a request privat or video "Baba Yaga- Slaughter to Preveil ( Drum Playthrough)" have fun dying inside watching this dude playing.
Thank you!
I suggested Demolisher drum playthrough before, definitely must do a Slaughter to Prevail react sometime!
R.I.P JO...... YOU WERE ONE OF THE BEST THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MUSIC. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SEE SLIPKNOT WITH JOEY AT THE DRUMS. WHAT A MUSICIAN HOLY CRAP
R.I.P Joey Jordison! He's the king that got me into the scene! You got my sub sir! Excited to see you watch more of The Great Joey fucking Jordison!!
Thanks Nathan!
The rev and joey are the two drummer who got me into drumming. RIP to both 😪
"Wow, I've never seen that."
Said every person ever seeing Slipknot for the first time.
It's oddly comforting that so many musicians and music fans are discovering or newly appreciating Joey these past couple of days. Thanks for making this video.
I grew up on Slipknot, as many others did, and as a drummer who learned initially in the classic jazz and big band style, when I heard Joey's drumming, he was instantly my #3 drummer of all time. Right behind Gene Krupa and my Dad.
RIP Joey.
R. I. P JOEY... HE IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD... LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU JOEY
Although Joey is my favorite drummer he is not the best drummer in the world buddy rich is the best however Joey is in the top 3
@@just_fs4814 ofc it’s subjective, but my top 3 will always be Dave Lombardo, Danny Carey and Joey Jordison, respectively.
I’m so happy that someone not in the metal style to really watch and appreciate his style and intensity of playing style! Rip Joey! Thanks for doing this video
You bet Rob. Turns out I'm liking it far more than I expected
Joey is 100% a legend
Hi Andy, I'm glad you made this video. I had the pleasure to see Joey play early in Slipknot's career and it was otherworldly. Cheers!
Joey is such a talented drummer. You should really listen to scar the martyr and vimic where he was the drummer. Totally different then slipknot (still hard though but different) he even did gigs with metallica and korn. He even played guitar in murderdolls 🤘🏻🖤 Joey Jordison and Dimebag Darrel are by far my most favourite artists of all time in the metal genre🤘🏻
Thanks Steve!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums No problem mate. If you seriously listen to it properly I don't see how you won't be picking your jaw up off the floor by the end of it. It is one very special and emotional album. I'm actually jealous youre getting to hear it for the first time. You know when you know something so well you've run out of things to find? Becomes predictable then. I've got to admit though it took a while. There are 9 pieces to the puzzle after all
8:30 - you know youre good when you make the drum teacher wince! R.I.P. Joey
This video was great. You did great man. Thanks for this. Rip Joey. #1 forever
I'll be deeply missing Joey Beating the sh*t out of that Crash Cymbal. RIP Legend.
We got to love some Joey Drum videos. We miss that absolutely superball rip Joey and Paul. 🖤🖤
joey is the reason i started playing drums
That's AWESOME
I absolutely love this! Your doing great work Andrew!! Joey was massive for me growing up! Probably the reason I don't play a double kick to be honest! He scared me shitless 😆
Clem Burke , Neil Pert , and Joey. The holy trinity of drummers
ZERO knowledge about the world of drumming...CLUELESS...you ever heard of Dave Grohl, Tommy Lee or Travis Barker??? Probably have...which is why you know absolutely positively nada...perhaps you should open-your-ears and beat-off to: BUDDY RICH • KENNETH SCHALK • TOMAS HAAKE = Agility, Diversity, Endurance, Style, Precision, Embellishment & Showmanship
Joey Jordison is probably my favourite drummer in the entire world, and he inspires me so much, he makes me want to start to play drums more seriously, and learn his style more, blast beats, gravity blasts, double kick, everything. I am so grateful I found him.
Also, thank you for being so open minded to find out who he is and listen to his style! It's great to see he is still remembered and will continue to inspire people.
And a little thing off topic, I love Joey's hair❤
joey also inspired me to play guitar. he was great.
🙌
Joey was an inspiration to many. Including me, got to see him a few times. He is just a few years older than me. He was just a guy that changed so much in the drum world. Check out "Diasterpieces" their live show in London. Thanks for doing this.
Whats brilliant about Joey is that Joey is self taught. He started with guitar then transitioned to drums. We've seen amazing drummers through out decades but Joey was just on a whole new that decade
Damn
I love seeing all the comments of people also Inspired by Joey. I first heard slipknot when I was about 4-5 years old, and I knew I wanted to be a drummer from that moment. I did everything I could to walk straight in his footsteps as much as I can.
Rest in piece, our idol.
Disasterpiece Drum cam from joey
London 2002 Would be worth the watch :)
Solid musician. Certainly nothing out of the ordinary. A lot of people fell in love with the person and the image/mask more than anything else. May he RIP
For sure. Great drummer but hailing him as the best ever. People act like there were no drummers before or after him that were twice as good.
I was never a fan of Slipknot (not a fan of their style of metal), however I am a fan of a lot of the other bands he was in & played live for (Satyricon etc), and him as a drummer (he was def the standout in the band). The metal community has def lost a great. Thanks for doing this.
You bet!
The fact he can do Iowa live since it's 15 minutes long and he's still ready for over an hour more of performance is insane.
What a legend
RIP Joey. He was a beast and the first of his kind. I never heard anything like him till I heard Slipknot 20 years ago.
Fantastic Ryan!
Never trust a drum teacher that never heard of joey jordison.
For me Slipknot has always had some of the best drums in metal. And Joey was a good part of that for a long time. He's always been my favorite drummer since I was about 8 or 9 years old. I'll genuinely miss living in the same planet as someone as legendary as he was.
He was cute af and a hell of a drummer. RIP
There's an awesome energy and an emotional intensity to Slipknot, behind the heavy drums and guitars, that's never been replicated, though many have tried. They will be the most enduring of this generation of metal, and perhaps 1990s to 2020s music in general, because there are many layers to their music.
You are a drum teacher and you’ve never heard or seen Joey Jordison play drums before …..yeah right 😂😂
It's like a Physics teacher who never heard about Hawking.
Joey is the reason I started playing drums. He was one of the best drummers on the planet! RIP JOEY. Hope your with Paul 🤘🤘
Great inspiration. Thanks for sharing
Rip Joey
Rest in Peace Brother! A huge inspiration to me as a drummer, never forgotten, always heard. Live on little man, see you when I get there.
i love how listening him play just puts a smile on your face :)
R.I.P.
Scott Riley is correct! The Disasterpiece drum solo is incredible! I was lucky enough to see it live at the Resch Center in Green Bay WI at my first live show. It blew my mind! Showmanship at its finest! R.I.P. to a legend
You are watchin the perfect videos. I need this. Worlds gonna miss Jordy
