🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Amazing tshirt man!!!
Joey's passing leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. He was the one who inspired me to always improve myself, I do not doubt that of anyone else interested in drums and nu metal
I hope everyone is fine, regardless of the circumstances.
R.I.P. Joey. We love you.
Seen someone mention that fact that he is only 5 foot 1” tall
Thanks for your take on my favorite drummer! I would like a great teacher like you. You critique very well and give insight and constructive criticism. Well done. You just got another subscriber! ✌😎✌
Dude wasn’t just a drummer - he wrote a lot of the music! He was multi talented- a legend!
which songs did he write?
@@monsta2311 he wrote nearly all songs till he was kicked out in 2013.
Joey and Paul were the key writers
Only the music was crap. Good visuals though 👍
Not to mention some of thr guitar riffs. Absolute musician. Absolute legend. RIP
@@kaisersamuel9921
Paul was a beast of a lyricist too. Wrote [or helped write] most of my favorite Slipknot songs. Can't deny there was a drop in lyrical quality after his passing.
Rip Joey Jordison. ONE OF THE GREATEST METAL DRUMMER EVER. Didn't get the time to see you playing live.
Rip
I bet he is rocking out with pal gray
It doesn't get much better than him, extreme talent lost may he shred in peace
Hey mate.
Ong no one better
The most amazing thing about Jordison is how he can play with long sleeves, pants and a mask and not pass the fuck out or burst into flames from overheating...
:(
Drumming in a mask has to be torture
I remember them talking about throwing up often between songs due to masks and jumpsuits. But they learned to cope with that in time.
he cut his jump suit down into long shorts and a semi long sleeve
He cuts the sleeves off his arms and pants
Now both legendary rhythm section of Slipknot has gone... RIP Joey+Paul
Wow! I can't believe I had forgotten about Paul. Ty! You will get more likes for sure. Ty for reminding me. Now I feel worse. They were the whole creative drive of the knot. They're getting better, but they lost a lot with those 2!
Both deaths feel like a punch in the chest
No its a kick start in the SCROTE!
I know how fucking shitty wtf my heart can't take this shit
For those that do not know yet, Joey passed away yesterday at the age of 46. A huge loss to everyone who has had the opportunity to know, meet, and or enjoy his cutting edge and ground breaking musical skills over the years. RIP, Joey. See ya when I get there.
Joey makes me childishly excited, still after 20 years. Always LOVED that kit on that dvd! Rude 🖤🖤🖤
*same here!*
@@drumtechniqueacademy yep that Orange County drum and percussion is wunderbar !
I play with his Tom set up to this day. Love that middle Tom.
😞
What DVD?
just think, hes actually a guitar player yet still ended up being one of the best and most influential drummers ever.
He is both but not anymore rip Joey.
And he didn't even go to drum lessons
He is not a guitar player, he started off on guitar, later heavily focusing on drums.
@@MoahGentle You literally just said he was a guitar player dude.
@@MilitiaEnt17 No, he literally said ´´He is not a guitar player, he started off on guitar, later heavily focusing on drums.´´
Came for hip flexors, stayed for Joey
😀
Hip flexors and French grip😄
❤🔥
It's after 1 am here in Sweden and I just stumbled across this video. Never been interested with Slipknot or drumming but this really made me appreciate drumming and realize how special he was. May he rest in peace.
And that´s exactly why you gotta love UA-cam :D :D ❤ my fav platform ever. Greetings from Czech Republic. :D :D (noon here, but just by quoncidence haha)
Headbanging like Joey is doing and as violently as hes doing it, whilst playing the shit he plays, is amazing. His neck muscles are in some crazy shape.
Disasterpieces is the best directed DVD live concert, ever. In any music genre. The use of "GoPro's" when GoPro was just starting out, captured the pure skill of Joey and the others. Uncomparable and way ahead of their time. There is also a live Disasterpiece recording from the crowd (probably with an ancient phone) here on youtube, which also kicks ass in its own way!
That DVD was the reason I started drumming and became a huge fan of Joey jordison in 2002. Best metal concert I have seen in my life. Even to this day I miss him being a part of slipknot. Loads of love to him.
I went to that gig and also the one at Birmingham on the same tour. Genuinely the best live gig i've ever attended.
I wish i had a copy of disasterpieces. Such a good fucking dvd
If you find the time, watch Queen Live At Wembley 86, the second night. There were no GoPros, but you have very good footage of the four of them. That's still my favourite live album ever. I've seen Slipknot live, twice, nearly 20 years ago and they're just bombastic live.
I was there when they played, the video My Plague was shot there it is still one of the best performances I have ever seen and I am not ever a fan. They use the footage for Resident Evil the first film. Iowa album. Amazing. Broke my fuck noes. London Arena.
The former drummer of belphegor is a huge fan of Joey Jordison. That’s all that needs to be said of that mans greatness behind the kit.
one of my favourite drummer joey. sickkk
Never even heard of Belphegor, so how is this a recognition of Joey's influence?
@@FlyboyHelosim a lot of people speak poorly of joey and SlipKnoT yet drummers in the dark depths of death metal look up to him.
@@psnpanuch8142 OK cool, thanks for the clarification. People don't seem to realize that Joey started out in death metal, thrash metal, and grindcore bands. Call Slipknot what you want but Joey was always the real deal.
@@FlyboyHelosim joey also worked with Satyricon, black metal he’s always incorporated various blast beats into his parts. One of my heroes along side Lars Ulrich and Vitek from Decapitated. Check out Day 69 he died in his 20s debuted their first album at 14
I can't believe that i was watching this and at the exactly same time, came out news that he passed away, R.I.P with Paul, Joey, u were a fucking legend!
Joey Jordison is my main inspiration in life. Watching him play when I was kid made me want to learn drums, which in case, opened a lot of other doors in my life. Everything I've become today is, indirectly, because of him.
Edit: Really hard to hear the news. RIP my hero! Forever the #1
Now become paralized
Even your last name
Same
F
Rip joey :(
Rest In Peace Joey Jordison, the Legend... you were the inspiration to many of us, and your work will always be admired.
This is Joey's world, we all just livin in it lmfao.
Joey is the ultimate showman behind a drum kit, dudes hands and feet are a blur, every beat is perfectly timed and he's head banging the entire time 😂😂
Joey is always been an inspiration. He is at the top for me. Always. R.I.P😭😭😭😭
Surfacing also has a cool paradiddle variation groove going on in the post-chorus (riff), with doubles on the kick and some 32nd note snare variations.
Thought the same thing
This was my answer too!!
Joey Jordison was like a god to me when I was in my teens. Good and intense times with slipknot in those years. I will always remember Joey as the best drummer of that time period.
Playing all of those perfectly while headbanging like that is something else
RIP Joey :( Thanks for helping me blast beat my way through my teenage years back in the day
Wish I could give this comment more likes!!! What a tragedy! He will be so missed!
i had to go back to this video because of recent events. i still can't believe he's gone. he's the one who got me into extreme metal drumming. i love you, joey
Very helpful to see you analyze other drummers Marthyn, not only learning new stuff but also learning how and what to analyze in other´s drumming. Awesome, thanks!
and another DTA family member - thx alot my friend 🤘
Joey Jordison also uses paradiddles between his snare and bass drum in the song “Surfacing”
How to make a video about Joey Jordison even more amazing?
... Bud Spencer t-shirt!
Double Trouble is my fav movie with him and terence 💪
@@drumtechniqueacademy Yayyy I'm from Italy so I like their movies a lot too!
@@drumtechniqueacademy mad respect Marthyn, you're a man of culture.
You say he’s sitting them really low yet Joey is only 5’3” tall
Short drummers unite! (5'4 here)
@@Stubz_Perez I’m a tall drummer lol
@@Stubz_Perez i’m 4’11 and 3/4 and my doctor said i probably won’t grow anymore even tho my whole family is tall😎❤️🔥 but it says i’m 5’0 on my license which is awesome
he lied to ppl to make him seem taller, he is in fact 5”1
5'8 drummer here 😁
With that shirt you win all, hands on. Bud was my hero.
Joey was insane as drummer, for me the best i've ever heard.
The Challenge spells out MAGGOT. Rest In Peace Joey you’ve always inspired me to be a better drummer. 46 is too young
Been watching a lot of Joey vids lately obviously related to his passing, and I truly believe he is one of the absolute GOAT metal drummers no doubt!
1. I didn’t know you were a (Maggot) Marthyn! That’s awesome!
2. I really have to thank Joey, sitting down and playing their songs really helped, especially with Purity, Prosthetics, Eyeless, People=Shit etc. His playing and Gene Hoglans playing really inspired me.
What a pioneer in the metal genre. Mad respect for this man, the greatest loss for rock fans since Chester passed away.
Way ahead of this time. Forever number one!
Good analysis of his technique, maybe after his demise, a part two could come?
Holy shit, what size sticks are you using? I'd keep a pair of those around just for home defense.
Joey is one of my favorite drummers, basically his attitude and his drive is inspiring
You gain a whole new respect for Joey when you think about how he crushes it all while in a jumpsuit
Tomas Haake, from Meshuggah, is another drummer to look into doing a vid about techniques. Bleed is a great song to start with. And Mario Duplantier, from Gojira, is also another one to look into. Art of Dying has a great intro.
Awesome video!! And released just before he passed :'( Thank you for breaking down the "quad fill." I had no idea how to make that sound, but it seems so simple (at least at slower tempos). I want to rush up to my set now and practice them, but it's 11 o'clock at night here and I don't think my neighbors would appreciate that. Can't wait to check out some of your other videos!
Rip Joey, you legend!
>His hand is higher so it looks more aggressive
Actually it's just a lot safer and easier headbanging with long hair while playing drums this way.
And I also think that sitting with his hips lower than his knees, was a way of hitting the kicks harder! The kick sound he produced was so huge!! And I'm talkin live!
I think its the fact that he was short af and he was trying to not hit the edge of his cymbals since they were flat
@@blinkersgaming and about the kick sound, he used triggers. That's why it sounds so huge
Joeys fucking head banging is going with the beat lol total badass.
RIP JOEY. My favorite band and drummer of all time. The first time I saw him go vertical I was amazed he could still play while upside down and spinning. Lots of talented drummers, but the aggressiveness in metal drummers will always win me over
The one thing about Joey Jordison that a lot of people dont appreciate is that he played the other instruments as well, and part of the Roadrunnuer United thing was that he got to cooperate with one of his influences, King Diamond who also plays all of the instruments, such a pair who are both understated fow the stuff the do to make sure theyre on point for thier bands and thier music.
♥️ R.I.P. Joey jordison ♥️
Thank you for details about Joey's way of playing drums! It's very interesting to know more about my favourite drummer of all time! Please, continue!
I never even thought to consider that kick and snare combo as paradiddles...the things I've learned from this channel and one seriously bad ass drummer, thank you for everything you do Marthyn!!!
Love this video - Joey was such a pioneer, glad you adressed the visual aspect. Also -love the fact those fills are called Portnoy fills commonly now :)
Your reaction is actually one of the best once. A person can at least learn something or get a clue on how he was playing❤️
He still is a huge gift to all people in metal. I think his art will continue inspiring other even after his death.
Maybe you could do one more?🤘🏻
RIP, Joey. It was the greatest pleasure meeting you. You were my inspiration to start drumming. Can't play regular kits anymore. But I still kill it on steels.
This video format kicks ass. Love watching you play too
Joey was a master of his craft ❤️🙏👑😭 made me wanna drum all my life
Joey were the one that made me pick up the drumsticks and started drumming
one of the best drummers i have ever heard as his snare was such a nice tone with the way he hit it
Maggot!! I've been waiting for this so much, I need more. Thank you so much for this! Greetings from Argentina!
The word is Maggot 🤘🏻
Great to see Joey on this series. He has been a huge influence to me (and to many others) as well!
Love to see how one of the best extreme metal drummers is a massive slipknot fan. Also that the “mystery word” was “maggot” helps show the fact that our man Martin is a man of culture. Let’s hope Joey will rejoin slipknot soon. I can’t be the only one who thinks they’re missing some of the magic that made them unique.
thank you for this video. Joey has and always will be such an inspiration.
“He’s sitting really low” mans is only 5’3.. if he sat higher he wouldn’t be able to get the pedal for the base drum..
I guess he won't be sitting anymore ... RIP
When he says sitting low, he's talking about legs angle lower than 90 degrees... it doesn't have to do with his height.
Maggot is the word!
The new studio looks amazing! Great analysis of one of the most inspiring metal drummers ever! Thank you Marthyn! 💪🏻
I though it was the one starting with F. Damn
Bloody tears this day, man. RIP Joey, fuck'em all, you're one of the best that ever lived.
RIP Joey . What a legend. great tribute
I will always listen to Joeys drum crushing. RIP.. . Joey was here , but his drumming will always be
Loved the breakdown! I think something to note as well, I feel that when analyzing something like the hand position on the crash from a trained players perspective, it sounds like you're implying it was a conscious decision to look more "aggressive" only. Where as I think like many drummers out there, what is done is not always the most efficient, however let us remember that drums are also a form of expressive movement, therefore if you're getting into the music this much like he did along the whole band, then it makes sense that he's really digging into it, and that's just how he felt and learned to do it. And then of course the result of that is an aggressive "look". Much like if you get angry, you don't consciously decide to look angry. But with how drummers are trained to work out bad habits (even if you feel like you play better doing it), I'm not surprised you and many others came to it from that angle. Like it must of been conscious to get the look across because "normally" drummers play like this. It's always a little nerdy thing drummers like to get into I find, like is it french grip ect... I could be wrong of course, he might of planned that movement into his playing, but I feel it would of just been one of those things you form with the music and how you like to play, especially if he wasn't getting regular lessons from a traditional player trying to train that quirk out of him. Great video though! Brann Dailor is another drummer you should look at if you haven't already, he does a lot of similar unconventional movements and hits the cymbals so hard with crazy whipping motions to match the power and intensity of the music, he's got some crazy movements.
Joey Jordison, melhor baterista,o mais icônico, admiração eterna.....
Saudações em nome dos seus fãs do Brasil 🤘🖤
Great video! Im not a drummer, but I have always loved Jordisons drumming. Especially on the Self-titled album! Since I'm not a drummer there's probably a lot of things that flys over my head, but I still really enjoyed watching this. Keep up the good work! :)
So devasted when I heard he passed away. What a wonderful video to showcase his talent. Really made me appreciate him all over again.
Joey era un gran maestro de la batería. Disfruté mucho su video, muchas gracias.
Joey was on of the most technicals proficient metal players out their his speed was unmatched and the music of the knot was nothing short of game changing
I’ve seen many reaction channels and a few minutes in this is the best setup with the best explanations.
Thanks for dropping the knowledge like always. Joey always delivers! Sleeve is looking good!
What a great video. Joey has suffered the wrath of metal drumming 'Gatekeepers' for too long!
He was my musical inspiration growing up and the best drummer i've ever seen live.
I was lucky enough to see them dozens of times in the early 2000's (including the disasterpieces show), I have a tattoo of him on my arm, i have a signed mask, multiple photos with him and even some Ahead drumsticks that he gave me on the Iowa touring cycle.
Its a real shame he's not really in the scene anymore, as there were some incredible drum parts in the work he did with Sinsaenum.
If you saw the Disasterpieces show you have accomplished ascension.
@@evantaylor2935 🤣
Joey was the reason I bought black and white drumsticks and didn’t even have drums
Oh yeah..?
Well, I bought a drumkit and didn't even have drumsticks.
ive been watching that studio warm up video since the beginning of youtube, when he breaks out into the groove beat i get goosebumps
Hello Mr. Hip Flexors. Always enjoying your videos and a good hip flexor and french grip here and there.
It looks SO awesome with the black walls man. Beautyful studio 😎

Joey is my childhood hero, this time, Kevin Paradis. But Joey is a legend. Thank u for inspiring lots of great metal drummers today.
Muchas gracias por los subtítulos en español Marthyn, tu información es oro 👍🤘
I was waiting for this reaction. Thank you for not disappointing us Marthyn! 👌
really liked the video joeys drumming its awesome,i hope there were more footage of him playing
Joey just infused himselt with the drums! Great guy and forever Slipknot fan!!
No wonder why he was world best drummer at that time ! And he is still in my heart ❤️
I like the new video editing style along with Marthyns drumming shots.
It's a nice format and setup.

Thanks a lot!

Would love to see you react to Proscriptor of Absu sometime.
Dafür!
Such an underrated drummer.
Drumming in a high chair. Would love to see a breakdown as well.
I agree. Way better drummer whilst singing. And he has some hip joints so…
Joey Jordison was my inspiration since I began drumming in '99, this version of Purity is the BEST version, I love Joey Jordison!!!! Loved the Disaster Pieces DvD!!!
You're videos are always great Marthyn-so sad to hear that Joey passed away- I was lucky enough to meet him here in Sioux Falls behind the Expo building when Slipknot was first getting big
A true hero to meet. He was so cool to me even tho i was 16 and a complete dork. Shawn as well. Really awesome dudes. R.I.P Joey, thanks for living up to and past my expectations as a hero🖤
Surfacing also had paradiddles in it in one of the many grooves
You even can't stop this series without talking about Adam Jarvis of Misery Index ;) Greets from Germany
Love his style. So laid back for the level
Of stuff he’s shredding
I remember watching that roadrunner dvd when it came out. That short segment of Joey’s inspired me for years trying to play drum warm up perfectly.
Legends never die 💪🤘
Rest in Peace Joey! 🥀
R.I.P Joey. Awesome video man!
Joey and The Rev will always be the two best drummers in metal IMO. And now both are gone. If you do more of these and haven’t done the rev yet he’d be a good one.
I really appreciate Marthyn,
I really appreciate Joey,
but Bud on the shirt beats more than every drummer in the world 😁
Rest in peace legend 🤘❤️
That concert they did for that dvd was classic. Im not a huge slipknot fan but I like Iowa and that concert. Jordisons kit sounds great.
Diggin the rebranding Martyn. Keep it up brodi 🤟
It annoys me that he never addresses his whip strikes. He pulls his hand all the way back behind his head and whips it forward like he's slashing at a monster or something, and it's SO cool and takes so much control to add in that extra aesthetic without changing the dynamics of the hits themselves.
5:37 Purity YEAH I KNEW IT, so proud :D
I clicked immediately when I saw this. I learned several things here that I've always wondered about. Thanks
