Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE - A Rough Guide - Part 5: CUSTOM panel

- Simon uses the CUSTOM panel to apply filtering to the RevivalDRIVE's output, counteracting the lack of treble in the amp's clean sound. This panel replaces the EQ2 preset of the RevivalDRIVE and is only available on the 'RevivalDRIVE CUSTOM' model.
Whether consciously or unconsciously, pedal designers will usually voice an overdrive to work with their own amp of choice. If you happen to use a different style of amp, then you’re out of luck. Either you’re left with a sound that’s too harsh or too muddy, or you end up sacrificing the amp settings you’d really like to use for your clean tone to accommodate the overdrive pedal.
We’ve built a range of EQ adjustment features into the RevivalDRIVE to make it flexible enough to sound great with any amp - or even a flat-response power amp - with no compromises.
Thank you Simon for this whole series of videos on the Revival Drive - I found the pedal a bit daunting when I recently got it but now it makes much more sense - this is one brilliant drive pedal and now I can get the most out of it. Anyone thinking of getting one of these should go for it!
I liked all the settings you said were too dark! :-)
I’m running mine with, what some consider, an awkward dual amp rig. A Marshall Silver Jubilee loaded with 5751/KT88 alongside a Lonestar loaded with 5751/6L6WGB. The Custom Panel & External Footswitch have facilitated a wide selection of excellent tones working with the left & right sides of the pedal, giving me many varied usable head tones.
Don’t expect plug’n’play, but spend a little time and you get many that set’n’stay and avoid numbnuts.
Bottom line so far, 8 heads out of 2 👌🏻
Thanks for the feedback! I'm sure that a lot of prospective RevivalDRIVE customers will find your comment useful. The pedal can indeed add channels to your existing amp - in your case giving your 8 channels from 2 amp heads.
Origin Effects I find the extra custom front panel to be a big plus, alongside the extension footswitch. A plethora of useable tones + a SlideRig and or Fulltone OCD in its front end. Now an extremely compact rig for amp or di
Glad I’ve gone for the tweakability of the Custom version
Cool! The CUSTOM EQ panel may prove necessary for players using an amp which isn't a Blackface Fender-style or Marshall-style
Origin Effects ive got a dr z Carmen Ghia but opted for the basic model, do you see that as a problem getting the right sound?
Im really impressed with the tweak-ability of this pedal! im going for an amp-less solution and thinking if using just this overdrive with a cab simulator (Torpedo cab or neunaber Iconoclast which I have) achieve that. Would be great if it could do this.
Hey, Jonathan. Running the revivalDRIVE before a cab simulator is a fantastic idea. We want to get hold of a range of cab sims to see which we like best and which sounds most realistic paired with the RevivalDRIVE. We'll probably report our findings in a video so keep your eyes peeled!
Origin Effects awesome! I’m using the neunaber Iconoclast at the moment. Will be looking forward to any video in this department.
I play through to Peavey old school classic 50s I probably know the question but I'm going to ask anyway this would probably work pretty nicely am I right I'll fix the buy this pedal and I seen a bunch of your videos and it's something I think I could use thanks Simon.
It should sound great - let us know how you get on.
Sounds great. But man, that's one complicated pedal.
Nis Gaarde it could be if you think of it like a hit and play standard O/D, but then many don’t mate well with many amps. Taking time, maybe a night session, gives the Custom Panel the ability to dial in to suit your ear/amp
How well would this work with an original Super Champ? I'm definitely thinking of purchasing this, my first pedal in nearly 20 years.
Hey! I can't see why this wouldn't work well with your Super Champ. Assuming it's the one from the 80's, it has a single 10" speaker so you won't necessarily get a Wall-of-Marshalls thing but the output of the RD should certainly work with the EQ of your Champ.
What settings do you recommend for the eq2 custom side for a deluxe reverb amp? I am having trouble noticing any changes when I change the eq2 settings
