Ah, Resident Evil. A true classic and a personal favorite for all of us. It's celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and it will definitely be in our list of best games of all time. But, that doesn't mean it's free from sin.

Funniest thing is the zombie that 'runs' from you. I think it's in the remake, but Barry shoots the zombie and 'kills' it, then when you're about to leave the dining room you suddenly hear the door open/close, and it's gone.
I think this still happens even if you legit kill the zombie in the hall. So it'll come in to attack, be killed a second time, and then leave the dining room to go back to being dead dead in the hall.

KnoxCarbon The soundtrack in the directors cut is the same as the original. Youre thinking of the dualshock version which was a re-release of DC with dualshock controller support and for some unknown reason, they changed the OST. RE1 was released on the PS1 3 seperate times.

About number 24... Of course, Rebecca knows Chris was bitten by snake. Since she is medical officer, she surely was trained to register posinous bites of various animals, esspecially snakes which are most common biters.
Plus, it is possible that she has previously met Yawn, despite it not being shown in the game.
Also: Before Chris faces Yawn, Rebecca was with Richard, that was bitten too.

Euronymous Especially with the voices of the female characters. To be highly trained soldiers belonging to an elite command, they sound like schoolgirls in high school.
But apparently it was the standard for voice acting in the nineties, Although before it was much worse: Flat text without any emotion. It would seem that instead of acting, they were just simply reading a script.
Funny enough I'm doing a Let's Play of this game, playing as Jill. I just finished an LP of RE3 and I'm going to do RE2 next on hard mode.
God I love RE! I have a "Top 5 Favorite Resident Evil Games" list on my channel as well, I won't spoil to much incase anyone wants to watch it except that #1 is a tie between RE2 and RE3, so I guess technically it's my top 6 favorite RE games lol

Also the gem of bad bad dialogue scenes is when Chris waves at Rebecca she then walks right up to him and he says "is that you Rebecca". Lol that shoulda got 5 sins I mean never mind he already waved at her he let someone walk right up to him not knowing it was her in a house where zombies are trying to eat him

You missed one regarding the box art. What the hell is that gun? Half shotgun, half assault rifle, 100% not in the game?

@@SHADOMEGA7569 That's not the gun on the cover. The cover was made by an artist for capcom before even the characters were desgined. The gun on the cover is not obtainable in any game or way. The gun you can unlock in the PC version are Ingram and Minimi.
First time I ever really took a close look at that gun. Definitely a mash-up of M16 and pump shotgun

It does the absurd comedy horror shit 4 did, but it wants to take itself seriously. The reason it works in 4 is because the game knows how utterly dumb the stuff is and the whole universe overall also. It knows it's cheesy horror and it absolutely loves it.
5 wants to have the same scenes and absurd tropes, but because the game is being serious, well... it doesn't work.

@@shis1988 I disagree. Metal Gear had pretty silly moments and it still had an excellent story line that many take seriously. Hell, most of Suda51's games are absurdity to the max (Killer7 and No More Heroes) yet are still considered masterpieces.
Back then he didn't have the touch or the power. Besides, the boulder punch scenario didn't bother me. Did anybody see how big Chris's arms were before the game release?
I'll never understand sinning disguised loading screens. Loading is a necessary evil, why sin them making it interesting? Would you rather stare at a progress bar slowly filling up every time you enter a room?
The reason he calls it a sin is basically because they're still loading screens. He says so himself in the video and in both classic sequels to this game.

Lennel Echols I think sure you can easily nit pick this game but nothing beats my experience playing the first Resident Evil at least in the context of that franchise. At the end of the day the game is a classic and the voice acting although was silly looking at times was what they could do at the time.

Chris' and Jill's Campaign are obiously alternate Storylines since they start right at the same point. So how's that a sin?

What Sample said, plus, Capcom has said that canonically, Jill and Chris are both in the mansion in separate areas, yet despite all the backtracking in the game, don't run into each other not once. Ruins the believability.
I would have to say Jill's story is canon and here's why.
In the RE3 ending where Barry saves Jill and Carlos, Barry makes 2 subtle referrences to his betrayal (I couldn't just let you die and You ready to finish this). Plus is Revelations 2, Claire mentions that Barry keeps making the sandwich jokes.
Chris could've been in alternate areas of the house and not found until near the end.
As for Rebecca, we could imply that perhaps she didn't make it to the alternate mansion. If there were zombie dogs and zombie people, she might not have been able to make ot to the mansion and perhaps attempted to return to Racoon City to get help only to fall on deaf ears. Then Chris, Jill, Barry and Brad return to validate Rebecca's story which continues to fall on deaf ears leading to the fall of Racoon City.
Just my thought.

When I played Resident Evil I never knew that if you do enough damage to the Tyrant that the rocket launcher is dropped for you, I just avoided the Tyrant's attacks and waited for the rocket launcher to be dropped for me.
Am i the only one who likes when villians give away there plan... its pretty much them believing to be better than everyone else and that the protagonist no matter what he does cant stop it type of thing.

The part where you kill the giant snake for presumably the second time and Barry comes in and says "Have you found anything interesting?" with the "corpse" right in FRONT OF HIM should've been sinned. 😁 Also how is Jill not shaken up at least a little after that or enough to tell Barry that a giant SNAKE tried to kill her? She acts like it's no big deal and that it's just another day with the S.T.A.R.S..

No, the PS1 Resident Evil Director`s Cut was a superb game with new room designs, the intro video uncut and in colour, and new costumes.
That was this shitty 1999 re-release Resident Evil Director`s Cut DUAL SHOCK EDITION, the biggest sin ever made - with more shitty music than most Gameboy titles have :D and this worst and most useless re-release had nothing the original Director`s Cut had: No new camera angles, no new costumes, no intro video in colour and not even the first iconic zombie-scene was uncut (no head rolling into the camera) this useless DC re-release was completely f*cked up and is worse than any other RE1 release ever made, and had just some useless rumble features *ggg
+Julia Shenandoah Actually, the Director's Cut's intro is still black & white and censored. It was supposed to be in color and uncut, but unfortunately they messed up and forgot. At least, that's how it is on the U.S. version. Not sure about the PC port though.
Julia Shenandoah the only version I'm aware of that has the full colour intro and features Kenneth's head rolling on the floor is the uncut PC edition. the very term 'directors cut' means the director has cut it.

How does Rebbecca not mentioning Billy to Chris count as a sin? Back then, there was not even a Billy Coen. And even after RE Zero, Rebbecca promised to keep his fake death a secret.
Also, reading? I love it in RE games. It is the perfect amount of text to make everything more interesting but not to annoy the player.

Obviously the prequel wasn't made but showing her kick ass later on and then showing her needing protecting in this doesn't really make sense

The tank controls also added to the atmosphere of the game by making it feel less responsive, thus diminishing the player's sense of control; a classic and potent element of horror, and something I feel more recent games in the genre suffer for having lost.

Go back to wesker talk to him go,back thru the door next to berry do not go near the zombie yet! keep doing this some times then go to the zombie eating Sullivan, every time you go to room wesker is and come back the zombie will eat some of the Sullivan body.
If you do it many times the zombie will only let the 2 ammo on the floor and if you do many many times the zombie will eat everything even the ammo and go to wheres Barry is and start the scene.

I read the reason this Dub was so bad was because CAPCOM demanded the dubbing was over seen by a Japanese employee..... who couldn't speak English... So he had them redo the lines over and over and chose the ones he felt "sounded cool" despite sounding strange as fuck in English.

It was taken out of the remake. Now it just ends with "you would've fit nicely into a sandwich". "You were almost a Jill Sandwich" is an iconic line and flows better.

They aren't ALL bad, but there are enough that it probably should have been mentioned.
For example, zombie is around a corridor. The camera angle only shows the hallway you're currently in. You have 2 options...
A: Run to the end of the hall, and fire blindly in the direction of the noise.
B: Throw caution to the wind, and run right around the corner...possibly into the loving arms of an undead.
+The Metal One Should of added another sin for boss fights in a game with tank controls.

The Metal One True. I don't mind the tank controls, but it just makes the bosses frustrating, or at least they do for Yawn.
0:55 Those loading screens did sometimes get monotonous on areas that you have already visited and/or already cleared of enemies. However, in newer situations where new enemies might have replaced older ones (hunters replacing zombies, for instance) or even entering an area for the very first time, these door animations really got you intrigued and even apprehensive... What was waiting for you on the other side?
Eeeeeeeeeeew I just realized this is the greatest hits version. I was wondering why all the music was fucked up for a second. The fact that this is the only available digital version of the original resident evil should be a sin.
The sin of the tyrant fight isn't the length it takes to kill it, it's the fact that the tyrant dies with a single rocket blast. Later bosses can take a whole lot more punishment, except for Salazar, one well placed rpg and he's gone instantly. Speaking of which...
These are not sins, these are the reasons why I still play this game.
8:20 - you do realise that the OTHER character has been captured and locked in a cell at the end of the game, right? That's why you don't run in to them. And Wesker DOES get killed by Tyrant in Jills scenario, as long as Barry doesn't escort her there.
So what? Capcom screwed up by saying that Chris, Jill, BARRY and REBECCA all survived. BUT if you play as Chris, Barry is NOWHERE to be seen, mentioned or heard from. Yet he rescues Jill and Carlos at the end of RE3. When you play as Jill, the same applies to REBECCA. Yet Capcom had been saying BEFORE Vendetta that she SURVIVED the mansion incident. How did they BOTH survive if as Chris, you ONLY encounter Jill and Rebecca, and as Jill you ONLY encounter Barry and Chris? THAT is why it's a SIN.

3. Resident Evil 2 on Gamecube has less features than the Dreamcast version despite coming out later.
4. Leon finds a heavily injured or potentially dead body on the street, and his first response is to eyeball it rather than call for backup or paramedics? Rookie in training, indeed.

Yeah I just beat the HD remaster on ps4 and that elevator was way out of place, also that game had some bad puzzles without enough clues.
My guess on why the voice acting was bad, was because the actors were handed a script with lines but possibly lacked any context as to what tone they wanted. They also probably didn't see any game footage or hear the voice of other characters to understand what feeling they should give. This was common in early games which is why we would sometimes get bad voice acting.

In the Directors Cut version, Wesker does get killed by Tyrant in the lab when you play as Jill. You then find Barry dying in the chest room just before you go to the helipad. He gives you a photo of his family.
3:56 actually, since Jill's campaign is the in-game easy mode, it makes perfect sense for Barry to simply take you to the infirmary off-screen: less stuff to do for the player. Just like the fact that Jill can perfectly play the piano while Chris has to wait for Rebecca to dust off her musical skills to solve the puzzle.
8:19 unlike RE2, the two campaigns in RE1 are mutually exclusive: if you play as Jill, Chris' story never happens and vice-versa. Also, Wesker can get impaled by the Tyrant in Jill's campaign too, depending on some of the choices you made through the game (very subtle stuff at times, like not waiting for Barry to get another rope after defeating the giant snake the second time).
Yeah the Canon Ending of RE1 is that Chris, Jill, Barry and Rebecca all escape the Spencer Mansion together after being rescued by Brad, but ironically it's impossible to get this ending in-game, ultimately the Canon of RE1 is made up from parts of both Chris and Jill's Scenarios, such as Jill finding Kenneth being eaten by the Zombie in the hallway beyond the Dining room, and Chris finding Forest on the Balcony etc., basically you have to take parts from both campaigns and piece together the Canon Story in your mind
@@texasgent4694 Yeah, pretty much. Even though I am pretty positive they never really thought about a "canon" ending while developing the game: any ending could be the "true" one. Things changed a little bit once they started making sequels and concentrated on the narrative more - at least after they scrapped the first version of RE2 (the notorious 1.5) which only had loose links to its predecessor. Quite interestingly, according to what Hideki Kamiya (RE2 director) says in his commentary to the game, even in the sequel there's no canon ending or scenario: it can either be LeonA\ClaireB or ClaireA\LeonB, it doesn't really matter, since at the end they both always survive with Sherry after the lab blows up.

@@thermonuclearcollider4418 Yeah you're right, the Resident Evil series is full of retcons with RE Zero being one of the biggest of them all, like you said when Capcom first made RE1 there was no Canon Ending in mind, I believe that Chris,Jill, Barry and Rebecca were all confirmed to have survived the Mansion Incident to prevent any further confusion as the series progressed and to hit home the fact that technically both Chris and Jill's Campaigns are both "Canon" to an extent as for RE2 I believe that Claire A and Leon B is Canon because Sherry gets infected by the G-Virus in this series of events and RE6 confirms it as well, which is another example of how much this series has been retconned throughout the years
@@texasgent4694 RE0 story-wise was terrible: I remember when it was first announced for the N64 I was super-intrigued to know how they were going to link it to RE1. I was so naive I didn't think they were just going to do it no matter how unlikely the story was - although I know it got rewritten when the game was moved to the GC, I doubt it was any better than what we got. Yeah, lots of retcons: the problem mainly lies in the fact that, as pointed out by RE3 scenario writer Yasuhisa Kawamura, each installment in the series was\is conceived as its own thing, with little regard to the main narrative. Add to that the fact that the gaming elements come first to those who call the shots (Shinji Mikami for a long time refused to write a story for RE1 and the scenario was eventually written by two other people, mainly Kenichi Iwao, who got little credit for it), and you can get a pretty good idea on why the plot got so messed up.

This game still ranks very high with me. There's many things that can be annoying like the camera angles blocking you from seeing/fighting enemies but, I love the cheezy voice acting and plot. It's like a syfy movie you get to play and not just watch! That's a big part of It's charm.
The dialogue and voice acting in Resideny Evil makes it look like something that would come out from a kids movie, despite being an adult game.
I loved this version mainly because of how cheesy it is I just love it.
