Make no mistake about it, ladies and gentlemen. This game is a masterpiece. An all time great. And arguably the best Resident Evil game. Certainly Top 3 Resident Evil games for yours truly. But even the great ones have sins to account for.

I always thought the doors instead of loading screen was a really creative way to keep the experience as immersive as possible in that era
@Your Mom's Creepy Uncle The loading screens were a safe place to take a breath before that event. Even though it only happened once the whole game, I was scared the whole game of the loading screen. That is until I realized that it only happens once. There should have been a small chance to trigger an event like this one other doors, it would have kept the fear up through subsequent playthroughs.
It was both. It is a design solution to a technical limitations. Also known as making the best out off what you do have. It's sinilar to an earlier issue in the 8 bits games (I think 16 bits too) where "magically" the music always matched the action, because it could only be coded that way so composers worked with the hardware's limitations on tempo. Summarising thr story here, music is not my forte.
as a kid, those doors creeped me out. nowadays, whenever i hear a screeching door, i think of resident evil.
I agree it was designed to to give a sense of fear and immersion and a game this age it's so forgivable blaming it is like blaming the fog from silent Hill for being too much you can't see shit it was to give you fear and keep your guard up all the time in fact i actually blame the remake for not including a door screen animation and not being a tank control and fixed camera angel but how am i kidding it's a good game anyway didn't top the original though imo
I remember once in either resident evil 2 or 3 that i opened a door and 2 zombies were there waiting for me

You joke, but that could actually work as a Resident Evil game. Set it in a massive high class hotel, and the characters have to scale it in order to reach the helipad on the roof. It'll be like Resident Evil mixed with Dredd.

Umbrella was pretty much defeaded by Wesker, and Chris and Jill just cleaned the rest
Well, to be fair, the aborted "Castle scenario" for RE4 was about Leon infiltrating Spencer's European castle to take Umbrella down - something that was eventually relegated to the "Lost in Nightmare" DLC of RE5. Apparently, it stemmed from RE2 Leon B ending, even though the very first version of RE4 was the game that eventually became Devil May Cry (and, despite the fact Leon and Dante do look a little alike, the latter was always going to be an original character - he was supposed to be called Tony Redgrave). Too bad we never got that game.
Claire contacts Leon in RE:CV so he was helping her in some capacity.

I love how Leon’s (Blue) and Claire’s (Red) outfits contrast each other. It’s like you have the Blue scenario and the Red scenario.
Yeah though I'd say Ada and Claire are dressed in pink rather than in red. But it's true hen you check red magenta it's closer to pink than to red XD.
Leon and Sherry are Blue, Claire and Ada are red. I’ve noticed that for years and that’s pretty good color theme
Claire is actually dressed in pink. According to director Hideki Kamiya, her original outfit was what became her alternative costume (making her looking more like an Hells Angel than a simple biker), which is dark blue with a fire motif, but it was deemed too difficult to see in locations that were already dimly-lit, so they went for a different design for her standard outfit. Elza Walker's suit from 1.5 was red though (well, red and white).
Something that was carried over from 1.5. Elza and Leon had contrasting looks there too.

(Puts on Nerd Glasses) Actually that "useless" door you mention on the 2nd floor is ACTUALLY the door Sherry crawls under when running away from you depending on your character and scenario. Bonus fact in 'The Darkside Chronicles' you smash through this door to progress forward.
I mentioned that as well. Also, multiple Tyrants were dropped in to "clean up" all of Raccoon City. It would make sense that one got dropped into RPD of Chief Irons failed to do his job. Pretty good failsafe.
@@jeremyrafuse5330 it was not exactly to ensure Irons does his thing, they tossed tyrants there to wipe out any witnesses, including Irons himself.
It's hinted they sent more than one to the station and lab/NEST as well, this was put in background in the final battle room of Nemesis with many and army corpses.

Sin : Fat cop with sub machine gun tries to take down 2 zombies but gets attacked anyway,ends up misfiring and shooting the pilot instead which causes the helicopter to crash......all while your main character was there and did NOTHING

From what I have heard, @@turtleguymcturtle4303, the helicopter falls out of the sky because reasons. It did not fall out of the sky because an armed panicked cop was still firing his gun while being eaten alive by one or more zombies and ended up firing at his "save my ass!" helicopter.

Actually, you do encounter "the door that serves no purpose". When you get in the door from the pressure plate puzzle, you run into Leon, next to some vending machines. Straight ahead is a hallway and it leads right to that door. It's boarded up and that's why we can't open it.

I like this video... But... In 4:30 That broken door is used by Sherry to scape from Leon... It leads to a hallway that conects the library with the STARS's office hallway... It's only purpose is to prevent you to follow Sherry... That's why it's half broken n boarded up from one side... Let's just said it is a plot device...

4:30 - Correct on the first part, that the door serves no purpose. But you can access it from the other side, when you go round through hallways - Leon sees Sherry crawl under it, the door is nailed from the other side. Had it been open, it would have served as a shortcut to the library. You wouldn't have to go around the STARS office.
What I consider the biggest sin are the plotholes. Nemesis' police station visit is set a day before Claire/Leon arrive. When you go to the police station with Jill, it has nailed most of the doors. When Nemesis hunts Jill, it breaks at least one window. Yet those are completely unnailed/repaired when Claire/Leon arrive.
Gotta love them Magickal self repairing windows, BiohazardJokerCZ. Plate glass windows aren't cheap, ya know! lol
Then the sin should be on re3 cuz they came out later.
Well you can blame re3 for that since re2 came first 🤪

Haven't played it yet, but Resident Evil 2 Remake should fix these little plot errors (I should hope so, all that detail they put into it).

Because it builds tension.. You don't know who or what to expect on the other side. Especially if already low on ammo and Health Aid.. But the show must go on.. For better or worse... RE3 really mind fucks you with this mechanic.. When i first played it..

It usually doesn't bother me, but that's one of the things I hated about Code Veronica, because they added in Claire being hesitant to open the door when it seemed dangerous. Fine for the first time you play, but annoying once you know everything that's coming, ESPECIALLY the tyrant fight on the plane since I tended to die there often and had to sit through the extra 15 seconds every time when I just wanted to get back to the fight.
That's one bit of realism I'm glad they never used again.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X had the BEST door, ladder, and stair loading screen.

You forgot the fact that you go down the sewers and 2 elevators only to find yourself on a surface level train. Hell they didn’t even bother to fix it in the remake.
The fact that this game got 35 sins really speaks volumes of it.

Despite the plot inconsistencies and changes/cuts in the 2019 RE2 Reimagining, I still feel Claire A Leon B is the canon route lol.

Gaming sins 34 not 35. The door that "doesn't lead anywhere" does have a purpose, Sherry crawls through a hole in the bottom of it to escape Claire in one of the scenarios.

You didn't mention that the Lickers don't attack you if you stay still or walk (instead of running). It's important to note that if you walk on glass or puddles of liquid, they still attack you. Attention to detail

I love this game and still have my old PS1 copy in great condition I remember getting it for my birthday back in the 90’s and wanting to take the day off from school so I could play it all day without interruptions but had to go turned out to be the best thing playing it later as it was getting darker added more to the tension

At 4:35 , there actually is a purpose for that door . You can go to the other side . It’s right before you enter the library in that hallway sherry first crawls through . That’s where the door is barricades and where it leads to . You can even see the hole at the bottom from the two statues room .
That door leads to the hallway beside the library, you can actually see it from both sides.
And if you take a look at the map you'll notice how everything is connected.
The “you’re a cop right”? Line isn’t actually out of place. I get asked “are you a pilot?” daily, when in uniform, at the airport, waiting by the gate to get on the plane. “Nope I just wear this for fun 🙄”

And since they had asked people SPECIFICALLY what they wanted to have and charged them extra is a bullshit move. No excuses for that. If the soundtrack or costume wasnt even in the Game I wouldn't care. But I'm not going to look at them spit in my face and smile about it because they finally got around to making the most requested game in there history.

And having A and B is pointless since all you do is arrive at the station differently. No different bosses or alternations to the story at all. I literally just did leon B and then started A and going through it... seriously... i just did all this shit earlier.
If you want it buy it? Why would they give it to you for free when they're not obligated to, they clearly remade the game and it didn't even make sense to keep the old music in because frankly it does not work well with this game. It serves mostly as nostalgia and cool factor rather than add anything of great value to the new game, and costumes? They literally make every alternative/unlockable costume in any resident evil game a DLC you need to pay for so I don't know why you are surprised at this move
4:30 That door DOES serve a purpose. It allows Sherry to escape from Leon and Claire when Clair finds her in the very next room. In the room after that, Leon says she just ran by (down the hall). If you'll notice, the bottom of that door is damaged, and the hole in it allowed Sherry to get out. At least, I think it's a hole in the bottom of the door.
This is the first time he made a deduction in the game sin counter.
Regarding the boarded up door, everyone says it leads nowhere but it leads to the hallway before the library. The hallway with the soda machine and benches.

The door to the room you say leads to no where is boarded up on the other side, is where Sherry runs of and sneaks through during a cut scene.
4:30 This door when Sherry run away from Leon and crawling throw the door's hole and drop the heart key.
And about the diaries, are you kidding me? This is one of the best things in the game, they add the suspense and creepy atmosphere to the game.
Sin 13: that door connects to the corridor leading to the library. It's boarded up on the otherside, Sherry climbs through the hole at the bottom if you trigger that cutscene. Sin -1

Hmm.. I read on the RE wikia that zombies are capable of minor functions like turning doorknobs but not higher functions like thinking and using weapons (standard zombies)
What's funny about Leon ditching his Jeep to drive a police car into the city is that in the RE2 remake he does the EXACT same thing.
"It's up to us to take out Umbrella!" - Leon Scott Kennedy before being hired as what basically is President's bodyguards and living like a random guy until RE4(or the CGI movies like Degeneration that basically is a rip-off of RE2) and then RE6(where Umbrella was already destroyed, and there are MAYBE a few random groups of loyalist trying to resurrect Umbrella)
The first thing I thought about the original's ending was, "C'mon, guys! We'll beat Umbrella Inc.! As soon as we get done visiting the adjacent town's hospital. Coughing up bloody scabs is really painful, guys!".
The door in the 2nd floor hallway leading to the statues is the door that sherry crawls under when leon chases her, its boarded up so you cant have that shortcut... that door always creeped me out as a kid on my 480p crtv lol ... oh the nostalgia.
Well the Remake is unfortunately much worse when it comes to story and inconsistencies. One character dies twice and differently when you play A and then B. Not to mention you fight same bosses and do similiar/ same puzzles in A and B :/ all the small plot details the original had and in remake lot of things doesn't make sense. Other than that the remake is 10/10
DanyFox7 the remake is still a solid game, especially by today’s standards
The only gripe I have with the remake tbh, and I don’t care much considering it improved the original’s very linear RPD segments and the boss fights aren’t shitty pushovers anymore. Still love the 98 classic tho
Graphics and gameplay wise it is the best game in the franchise, I just didn't like how they handled the A and B scenarios, that's all
Also what you did in A affected B. The shutters, and some rooms were available to B because they were unlocked on A.

That door in the room with the two statues puzzle you mention actually makes perfect sense and you also get to the other side of it. Its just blocked.

Exactly what every nostalgia high fan says.
I did not play through RE2 until after picking up the deluxe version of RE6 on PS3 thst also included digital PSN versions of: RE1 Directors cut, RE2, RE3, RE4, and RE5 Gold.
And yeah RE2 is the best of the PS1 classics and is better than the 2019 Reimagining.
I love the 2019 Reimagining too, but man did Capcom cut corners when it came to the story and making the A and B scenarios line up.
I just wanna see a Resident Evil game where you're just an evil neighbor!
Try RE DBG Outbreak Expansion; in that one, you can actually become a zombie and you attack all the survivors.

@ 4:30 That door is the one that Sherry crawls under on the other side in Leons' campaign. You can simply follow it around to the other side. It's on the map.
The remake didn't capture the same essence as the original.
I feel it did in different ways. The great thing about it is that unlike remake 1 which replaced the original without question, Capcom (intentionally or not) created a game where it would definitely try to recreate the original but make sure the original game was still special. Because cmon. Remake 100% replaced re1, whatever reason you like the original for (if you do) it’s dated to hell due to remake.

4:30 that door does have a purpose. It’s where Sherry escapes when Claire meets Leon in the hallway. In Leon’s B scenario she drops the Diamond key in the gap from the other side.

I still think the original re2 is better than the remake. After playing the re2 remake I was left wondering why did they even bother the game was short the story was lacking and parts of it made even less since than the original. I'm mean if they're going to do complete reimagined version of re2 than they should've come up with a longer more in depth story that makes it better. Let's hope re3 remake will be better .
RE2 is my favourite game in the whole franchise and judging from what Crapcom did with it in the Remake, I'll pass on RE3R !

That cracked door near the statue puzzle actually has other side. It's seen in the cutscene where Sheri crawls through the crack from that other side. Smith Wesson in the lore, about 10% of people are immune to the T virus, but the canon is that Leon and Claire (and the others) don't actually get bitten in the story (hence it never happening in cutscenes) they just had to include it cause it would've been a boring game if you can't get hurt.
The door that never opens doesn't open in this one because the inside got destroyed by nemisis chasing Jill Valentine through the police station in the first part of Resident Evil 3. Re2 takes place 24 hrs after the first events of re3.
