I learned so many tips and tricks from this vid it's insane. Also hilarious how you got several top tier weapons at the start of this educational run
Of late ftl has been "here have everything" or "you get nothing. good day sir." It is an actual concern when doing tutorials, one can get stupidly carried by weapons and telling people to just get a free flak 1 isn't particularly instructional.
Watched about an hour and half in before starting another run, just because I felt like I couldn't soak up anymore info. I beat the game on easy! It was your tips on cloaking, micro pauses, weapons, power management, and other small tips like pathing on sectors or coinflip encounters that really helped me out! Especially cloaking and micro pauses, that helped out a lot with timing and getting an edge over enemy ships. Thanks!! Great video! I'll watch the rest now
Congrats on the win. Glad you found this helpful.
@@crowrevell2082 Came back because you really ignited the love I have for this game now. When I first bought this game months ago, I dropped it pretty early because I got frustrated with the usual beginner issues(boarding, bad purchases, weak ship), but now I've beaten the game multiple times with multiple ships and I've almost got all the type A ships. I went from having 4 hours to 40 so fast, really having fun with this game. Thanks again!
this was so cool thank you so much for making this
Welcome.
I was really rusty before watching you, lost my skills ages ago. Your reminding me of all the right things to do. ... also your good luck. Sector 2, Rock sector, first jump, stasis chamber.
Choice between two nebula for the second zone, mantis hunting here, but I found one that can't hurt me. Ion and small beam. So now I'm going to get everybody to max engine, and max piloting, because I've got the time. I also found a burst laser 1, and using THAT as my weapon, I can just attack it's 2 levels of shields until I max weapon skill on everybody too.
No reason to intentionally max out 3 skills on 7 crew members all in one fight, except that I can.
Shame none of these let me grind shield, because that would be hilarious.
About one hundred and fifty minutes to get 3 skills maxed on 7 crew. Maybe it's a good thing that shield wasn't possible.
Welcome back to the fun/pain that's FTL
Wow lots of good information here.
One thing I like to do for safe fights like at 28:00 is unpower weapons and train the shield guy if I have one.
training can be pretty nice. I find it most useful in hard mode difficult, to get free evasion and a faster charge on my FTL. Though i use cheat engine to speed up the game so it takes like 1 minute vs up to 80 minutes.
Thanks man, I finally beat this on easy. Now to normal....
Congrats and good luck.
I got back into FTL after basically only getting 1 win on kestrel easy and dropping it afterwards for a year.
Now that I'm back and suffering through trying to get a Torus win and get to other ships, I'm hoping to learn some tips for shoring up my runs.
It's a fun game, but goddamn there's so many layers of RNG to manage.
There really is. Much of ftl is just trying to negate/lessen the amount of bad rng.
Once you have all your ship systems wouldn't you want to still visit stores for augments ?
Generally no. I have a guide about augments and honestly, most are pretty terrible. You could go looking for better weapons or maybe some crew if you're below your comfort level with crew.
But there could be exceptions for looking for augments. If you have teleporter, zoltan shield bypass gives an good advantage, particularly if the ships weapons are weak and makes it worth actively hunting for it. Drone Recovery Arm could also be worth getting if you are lacking in drone parts and if not present, you can at least buy some drone parts. Maybe a case for LRS, but if you have all systems, it's tough for there to be a hazard you need to be concerned about. Augments tend to be at the bottom of what I'm looking for. And I tend to only check them out if i'm at the store for other reasons.
Is getting lv 4 shields in 3 sectors good?
4 shield bubbles within the first 3 sectors is a lot of shields for easy mode. Hard mode, unless i'm boarding, i almost never consider having 3 shield bubbles in sector 4 because I'll want scrap to spend on systems/weapons. I have found that a lot of players tend to be stick with weaker weapon systems because shields seem to be capped at 3 bubbles until the flagship and they are surprised how hard it is to bring down the flagship.
Could you provide a link to the mod you are talking about? Counting dashes doesn't sound fun.

Huh, I'm surprised you were willing to stick with the BL1. with 2 BL2s and a Flak1 I'd have tried to trade for a beam or missile for backup firepower or something.
I do swap to a hull beam later, but having that many projectiles is a really solid approach to the game. I feel highly confident that I can win with those weapons. Beams are really good for dealing tons of hull damage as well as hitting multiple systems forcing the AI into a lot of repairs (stops them from charging their FTL if they intend to jump). Missiles less so. They are a bit undervalued by the community, but there isn't a missile weapon i would take over anything else i have in the loadout. (like maybe a breach 2/fire bomb for crew killing phase 1).
“Easy guide” proceeds to upload 3h+ video
well easy difficulty (you should see my almost 8 hour run of hard mode).
@@crowrevell2082 oh my god I didn’t know this game could be that long 💀
@@NoOne-yv2ei Normally wouldn't be, but trying to show off the full depth of ideas or going over all the things I don't do. Certainly takes a while to go through.
what a great video but talk ab streamer loot LOL
3:37 you said that artillery is affected by weapons skill in some way? Is that accurate and could you maybe explain it a bit? Thanks
Clarification: Firing an artillery beam, while weapons are manned, does provide weapons training for the crew in weapons. Artillery systems are only benefited by putting more power into the system or automated reloader. Hope that clears it up.
