I've received a ton of requests for an unlock guide for FTL, so here's the result. This video guide will teach you how to get all of the ship unlocks in Faster Than Light. If you don't want to be spoiled on anything DO NOT WATCH. You've been warned. :)

If you're getting trouble with finding the worm hole then rename the crystal guy "Ruwen" and once you get to the rock home world there will be a quest marker leading to the worm hole :D

Sadly I think they patched that out, too bad. That would have been a really nice trick for me, but I guess I have to do it the old fashioned way

The Rock Ship's "Rock Plating" Augment gives you a blue option that will always give you the stasis chamber.
I just realized that I'd gotten the stasis chamber and sold it, I'm sad now.

I had a run where I came across two of them in the same sector. I don't think the map layout was valid to unlock the ship though
I got the federation cruiser by defeating the second flag ship under construction in the rebel stronghold.
Definitely, the artillery beam is pretty OP if you ask me. It scales well into the late game, and completely ignored all shields (unlike most other beam weapons).
Damn, that's tough. Those spider events can be brutal, sometimes I think it might just be better to skip them.

One unlocks the Kestrel by doing a near impossible achievement. Giving somebody else your money.

Do you have a slug on board, or upgraded sensors? You need one or the other to continue that quest.
Yeah, I added an annotation correcting that. Unfortunately a friend who followed a wiki post told me that the devs changed the requirement to a level 2 teleporter, and I believed it because I unlocked the ship a couple of months ago when FTL was still in beta. It turns out that the wiki was incorrect, only a level 1 teleporter is required.
I bought FTL this week and I didn't know, it was that hard to unlock to ships in the past. Now you just need a win with each ship to unlock the next. :D

I just got the game less than an hour ago, and I ran across the Zoltan Cruiser quest, and I was going to attack it but I remembered that you could get a ship if your heard them out because I watched your video the other day. Thank you so much!

Just got the damn crystal cruiser.Took me a couple of days but I finally got lucky. Not only did I find the secret sector in one jump but also within the secret sector I only had to do a single jump to get the cruiser. Unlocked b-type rock cruiser too. Your vid helped me out with this last ship. Thank you!
Did you beat him in each encounter? You've got to fight him 3 times total throughout sector 8 before he actually dies for good, otherwise the ship won't unlock.
I followed all the steps to unlock the zoltan cruiser (advanced edition) but somehow it didn't appear in my hangar HELP!!

When I first saw the prototype flagship... I shit myself.
I play mobile version and was on the toilet... I'm lucky. Don't let this happen to you. Buy all FTL games wherever they are. If you find one for sale in a shady looking ally way. Just bring a gang and buy it, don't forget guns.
Yep, that was my home base from 2010 until this past June when I shut it down.
How were you able to communicate with him and convince him to join your crew?
The question is - how many people are going to actually have level 3 doors at that point (vs investing in something like engines / shields, or even other weapons)? Most invaders can get past at least one blast door before they suffocate.
Love the Video! I wouldve never unlocked any other ship other than the standard and advanced federation cruiser and the engi cruiser without this.

This helped out a lot in unlocking the ships. I passed by three ships unknowingly when I first beat the game.
It doesn't appear to, there seems to be an equal chance no matter which difficulty level you choose.

One more way to unlock the federation cruiser is on the second to final sector you may come across a rebel world, called the rebel headquarters if im remembering correctly, and in there you cam find a rebel flagship and itll be on its last phase but not as hard as the real one
its called the rebel stronghold

After 10 years (after 144 hours of playing) I finally completed the missions to get all cruisers. I had them before through the victories, but I always hoped to acomplish the missions.
The one I had the most struggle with was the Slug Cruiser I got today. I missed the start of the quest so often when cruising through slug home nebula.

Thanks to u i unlocked the Mantis and Rock ships. This gave me the resources i needed to destroy the flagship and unlock the Federation cruiser thank u sir you are a lifesaver.
This video REALLY helped. all though I did unlock the mantis ship without having any Mantis crew members on my ship. I did require the adv. tel and medbay.
I got the broken stasis pod so I was trying really hard to complete the mission to get the crystal ship, but in the same run I ended up unlocking both the lanius cruiser and the stealth ship instead. and I beat the boss which I've only done twice!
For unlocking the Mantis ship, I'd recommend just venting the boarders, assuming you have Level 3 doors. Much smoother than fighting them face-to-face. Allows you to send your own boarders right away and prevents crew injury downtime.

Awesome video! 3 more ships to go, got the prompt for the Slug but rebels were covering 80% of the map so I couldn't do the quest :/ ... need to start hunting for the Mantis and the Crystal one also

Mantis ship unlock: you need a teleported to kill crew unless you use anti bio beams or boarding drones to kill enemy crew of course, but level 2 teleported can be substituted or level 3 sensors
Had trouble unlocking any ship besides the Engi Cruiser first. Now I suddenly got the Zoltan (finally beat the boss with that), Federation and the "secret" cruiser in a very short time. Gotta catch them all!
There is another way to get the federation cruiser, go to a rebel stronghold and search for a "prototype rebel flagship" its like the 3rd stage of the boss fight, beat and you unlock the federation cruiser

Oh man I know how you feel, I've tried so many times.
Level 1 teleporter is fine, I added an annotation to correct that. Unfortunately it was one of the ships I got during the beta phase, and a friend had told me that the devs changed it where it needed a level 2 teleporter. Turns out that's false, level 1 is fine.

here is a tip for the engi cruiser for the second layout
for the drone acheivement try to find an unshielded auto aussalt and just try to keep your shields up
I can't see any big benefit, unless you're hoping to catch 2 Zoltan events and maybe get 2 ice crystal crew out of it.
You can extraxt the neccessary information from the frist ship actually. But funny thing is you get the stealth cruiser coordinates, jump in then secure it and the second quest marker remains there with the rebel ship and can be interrogated as well. :D
(At least this is the case with 1.2.6, just tested it.)
I was lucky enough to find the Zoltan transport about 3 days after watching this video. And i`ve just unlocked the Slug cruiser! Man, that was hardcore! I survived with just 1 HP left after the fight with that interceptor.
I found the stasis pod thinking I might be able to unlock the crystal ship then I unlock every ship I dint already have except the rock cruiser slug ship and crystal ship did have a crystal crew member on the ship when I destroyed the flag ship for the 1st time

...wait...you mean that...and then...DAAAWW COME ON!! First playthrough, I did exactly that T_T two jumps later I got boarded and lost my O2 in under ten seconds...with one human and an engi as crew and two rock people invading. Needless to say, there is now a pirate Kestrel flying around. NOT AMUSED.

Sometimes the Zoltans give the Zoltan Shield (no matter which ship you're running) if you pass their trial. I also stumbled on the Rebel shipyard and won the Fed Cruiser A. I also won the Lanius ship by total accident.... Can't remember the details

Yes there is a chance u can get the ship cordinates from one ship when trying to unlock the stealth cruiser

Virtually the same thing happened to me. I FINALLY got the location of the Slug cruiser but it was back one beacon from where I was, and the rebels were taking that space as I warped there. There is literally no way I could have gotten it lol. Damn!

1:42 you only need to go 1 of them (you can also go to both) you could use the 2nd for a second chance if you fail at the first one.

you can unlock the fed. cruiser in a special event where you stumble upon a secret rebell base and defeat a mini boss
For the engi stealth ship if you destroy both of the ships that give you the information it makes the mini boss fight to unlock the ship much easier.
the first ship i found was the crystal cruiser i lucked out and did it quite easily, i got most ships and i got to say i think its the best :) it won me the game on hard.
There's actually a great trick to locking down a lot of the ship's bite, but it does involve a crew teleporter. You can send two crew members (preferrably mantis, but anything other than engi will do) onto each of the separate weapons bays, starting with the missiles. Using this method, the only truly "hard" segment is the drone phase. At that point, start praying and hope you can dodge as much as possible.
you can kill the crew with the anti-bio beam or boarding drones etc,but you need the teleporter the teleporter to start the chain of event and to teleport the wounded captain on your ship to get him to your advanced med bay.
